38 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/25/2019

About 3 months ago my 2013 Hyundai Elantra became sluggish in accelerating. It has gradually gotten worse. I tried fuel cleaners, premium gas, and now a tune up replacing coil packs and plugs. The vehicle crawls and does not accelerte as quick as it should. It cuts off or refuses to move when given gas at all stops. I switch off then on at red lights as it seems to want to take off when the engine is started. When I reach about 50mph the rpm hand guns and the bottoms out to stay at zero with no change in acceleration. There is now a whirring noise sporadically coming from the engine. After the ti e up the issues continue with cutting off ,rough idling, extremely slow snail accelleration with the engine light on.

49 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/23/2018

Takata recall on 9/23/2018, about an hour after a rainstorm (car was garaged during storm) my car was in motion at 40 mph in the left lane on a curve of a southbound interstate exit i275. The car suddenly went sideways, and began fishtailing. I tried to pump the breaks but they were not working. The vehicle then smashed the front side of bumper into the guard rail, and pushed me across two traffic lanes. The vehicle stopped in the right lane, facing north in a southbound exit. I tried to put it in reverse to get into the shoulder, and there was no acceleration. The engine had shut off on me while driving on the interstate. I do not know what failed the engine, or why it shut off. Hyundai corporate was contacted and they opened a case, and performed a full inspection. On 11/12/18 Hyundai claimed "we cannot agree that the accident involved a product defect and are declining any financial assistance. " a third party mechanic was then contacted, and found code c1555 and a failing vvti cylinoid. There is no recall. There is no way to prove this car is unsafe with the routes I have taken so far. I will not accept this answer. The engine of this car shut off and could have been fatal. It is also terrifying to think about who would to be blamed for such a fatal or dangerous accident since Hyundai "couldn't find any defect. " I asked for results of the scan and the case manager, christina replied that I am not authorized to see them, for "results are for proprietary use only. " this company needs to own up to their risky product!.

50 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/30/2018

The car sensors keep going up. The crank shaft sensor is not sending a signal that the car is in motion. When pull out on to a street or highway and press the accelerator sometimes my car will stall or drop speed. I fear someone will end up running into the back of me. When I come to a complete stop the car will stall or will not accelerate. Also the car headlights and tails tight bulbs blow within 4 or 5 days after putting new bulbs in. The cam sensor for the back up camera does not work as well.

51 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

52 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2011 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/14/2018

Got my 2011 Hyundai Elantra in 2017 at 94k miles. Air bag light is continuously illuminated, esc light had been on for approx. 6-8 weeks. Also, none of the controls on the steering wheel work. None of the controls have worked since I got the car. No cruise control, I can't reset my trip odometer, I can't control the volume for my radio, nor can I control the bluetooth for my hands free usage. Was told by dealership that there would be a fee to have this problem looked at, but saw a Hyundai mechanic by chance in a gas station and was told that my clock spring could be faulty. This is an issue, especially for commuters like myself. Also, mpg has drastically decreased. Was getting almost 35 mpg, now it's only about 25 mpg.

53 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/04/2018

Esc sensor malfunction caused one or more brakes to be applied and the engine to shut down in heavy freeway traffic. Esc lamp remained illuminated on the instrument panel. I was required to put the car in neutral with a foot on the gas to keep the car running. This problem is the same explained in a recall of later models, the 2011-2012 models, recall #137. My year is not covered under the recall but has the same issues.

54 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

55 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

56 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2010 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/14/2018

59,600 miles in car. Parked car for night, next morning turned vehicle on and eps and esc off lights were on. Vehicle had no power steering and was hard to turn if not moving. Recall on eps software was done 11 months ago. Took to dealership where problems were diagnosed as bad sensors. That's not bad until they tell you sensors themselves cannot be replaced and you need to have a complete new steering column installed at $2,500. Yes the car is 8 years old, but only 59,600 miles. Looking at complaints, this is a problem Hyundai should address.

57 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2014 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/07/2018

While driving on the interstate the traction control light flickered and speed started to decrease to around 40 mph. I was unable to accelerate and had to pull over and shut the car off. After I restarted the car I began to drive again and the light flickered more while driving. The weather was sunny and warm. No wet roads. This has happened 3 times now. Each time has been on the interstate.

58 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2009 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/03/2018

When going around curves more than 35 mph the car will start decelerating (as if it's braking on its own without me engaging the braking system)and the esc light illuminates on dash. Also the exhaust makes a popping noise after engine is shut off which cause a powertrain issue because the vehicle is not accerrating properly. I personally know someone that has the same exact vehicle and that customer experiences the same issue.

59 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Possible crankshaft sensor failure. Car will not start properly or stalls after starting and shifting gears. Happens every few months. New battery, spark plugs and tune up completed July 2018. No alternator/starter issues noted after mechanical testing.

60 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/05/2018

Well I bought the car used and later found out it had a recall on it. . . . Sometimes when I press the breaks it seem like it flooding and be pulling to the right and making noises underneath near tires. . It also have a sensor lights on.

61 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2000 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/24/2018

At 65 mph, on the highway, the engine stalled, all lights on the instrument panel came on and I was able to coast to a nearby off ramp. Five weeks later, the engine will start, and the onl ylight on the instrument panel is the air bag light which has never gone off since the stalling episode. The check engine light has come on for a year, with the same multiple misfire readings (300 and 301). I have had mechanics make almost every possible replacement in the last 12 months. Aspark plugs and wires were replaced twice in a four month period with an unknown factor burning them out. There are numerous accounts of both of these problems reported on reliable internet sites, especially the engine stalling which is especially dangerous. This vehicle is reported to have had both recall repairs completed in 2005. With thousands of newer Elantra models reporting the intermittent engine stalling, Hyundai should be required to thoroughly investigate and issue a recall. Note: I am unable to check the fuel/propulsion system in the list above. Perhaps only three items can be checked, I believe the problem with Elantras is also tied to this system.

63 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 01/19/2018

In December 2017 & January 2018 on multiple occasions the cars abs light came on for no apparent reason and the car would not stop as if the brakes were not applied at all. A vibration was noticed like the brakes would in a skidding situation but that was not the case. The failure resulted in a couple few calls and finally an accident . It was brought to the Hyundai dealership where we were told there were no failures or codes in the computer to indicate a problem. A week later we received a recall notice from Hyundai - NHTSA campaign number 17v-769 (Hyundai campaign 170). This was the stopper pad recall and it did fix the problem. Looking at the invoice from the dealer the recall was done but we were never told it was related to the problem. The recall notice did not seem to properly state the serious risk of the problem. It did state it could increase the risk of a crash but also stated "a deteriorated stopper pad does not affect the performance of the vehicle's service brake system". This was found obviously to not be true. I believe the notice should have stated not to drive the car until the recall was completed. We were lucky not to be injured but the car did have over a thousand in damage. We called and emailed the manufacturer but never received a response.

68 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2012 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 11/17/2017

69 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/28/2017

3 occurrences: leave from parking space- turn on engine- wait until tachometer goes to 1- with foot on brake, shift into d- tachometer reaches 5 on speeding engine before able to turn off ignition. Driving very slow- with foot on brake- in forward to large parallel parking- speeds up- brakes spongy- does not stop car. Only high curb prevents car from climbing on sidewalk and giving me time to turn ignition off. Stopping at traffic light on road with a 35 mile speed zone. After stop, brake becomes spongy, car's wheels begin skidding- can only turn off ignition to stop the car. Everything back to normal when I turned ignition back on, as was the case with the first and second occurrences listed above. Vehicle was stationary in the first occurrence, was in motion in a park in the second occurrence and on a county road with a slight turn to the left in the third occurrence.

70 Electronic Stability Control problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 08/08/2017

Our cruise control (cc) switches on the steering have stopped working! the behavior was un-predicable and dangerous for while when hitting cancel button would "engage" the cc. This is a serious safety issue since it could cause accidents. I believe this is due to the poor design on the connector that connects the wires from the cc switches to the steering case. The connector is placed right under the horn cover and we believe the connector gets squeezed every time the horn is used. I tested this myself and was able to get the cc to work after lifting the horn covers forward section which reduced the pressure from the connector right underneath it ! when I did this, hitting the cc. Once again this is a serious safety issue cause drivers could assume they are disabling the cc, when they could actually be activating cc which will cause accidents.
