2 Fuel Injection Rail problem of the 2002 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/21/2007

The contact owns a 2002 Hyundai Elantra. The fuel rail is leaking gas onto the engine and the check engine light remains illuminated. The dealer stated that this was a common failure and was caused by a manufacturer defect. The dealer performed a diagnostic, which showed that two sensors failed. The dealer stated that this was a very serious issue that could result in a fire. The contact was not allowed to take her vehicle home due to the risk of fire and the severity of the gas leak. Hyundai stated that nothing more could be done because the part was out of warranty. The contact stated that they were not even interested in looking at the part. The vehicle has a 100,000 mile powertrain warranty; however, the manufacturer stated that this particular incident was not covered for that warranty. As a result, other components, such as the gasket, have blown. The manufacturer stated that there was no recall for this particular defect; however, there were recalls listed for similar fuel defects of the same presence of fuel leakage. Those NHTSA campaign id numbers are 04v369000 and 04v178000. The failure and current mileages were 86,000.

3 Fuel Injection Rail problem of the 2001 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 04/15/2003

Car died just driving down the road. 1st Hyundai dealer told me my fuel was dirty, needed 1 new fuel injector and I should pay $330 to flush the other 3 injectors. Not covered under warranty. I called the dealer where car was purchased and was told to not have them do the flush - get the car and bring it up to them. Before I could get it up to them, the car did the same thing within 72 hours and had to have it towed to them. They told me I had purchased bad gas and all 4 fuel inj/fuel rail/gas tank needed to be replaced - $1187. 5-6 weeks later, same thing happened-out of town and they are telling me it's my fault and will not help-now its $1900 and Hyundai will not help at all. The dealership will not guarantee the work they did 6 wks ago. The car is in tulsa, I live in kansas city and have been without my car for about 3 wks. Hyundai will not loan me a car or help me get a rental. All they keep telling me is I keep buying bad gas. There is no way that I am buying bad gas. I purchase gas at the same place and so does everyone else in my family and noone else is having problems. I do not have the money to pay them and do not feel that this is my fault. I have called regional offices, etc and no one will help me. The impression I am getting from the service mngr in tulsa is that the car was not correctly fixed at my dealership. He won't come right out and say that but he is implying that more should have been done - hence the $1900 this time. Please let me know what I can do. I am not letting this go. I should not have to pay for this work and I'm not going to budge.
