2 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/26/2021

Since purchasing the car in 2013, we have had an issue with the parking lights, and sometimes headlights, coming back on after being off for several hours or we wake up to having a dead battery. This has happened over and over. In 2013 I took it to the dealership where we purchased for same problem and/or dead battery. Never happened at dealership. Our security camera has caught it popping on, or like yesterday, out neighbor called us (again) to tell us lights were on. This is with the headlight switch all the way off. We have tried to figure it out but can not. I did report again to Hyundai this past February, March, April 2021. Again, the car was parked and off every single time with lights confirmed off to only come on later with car off and still locked. It has to have key in it to start.

3 Headlight Switch problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/17/2020

The doors wouldn't unlock, then decided to unlock. The vehicle will only make this loud clicking noise. The battery tests good. The headlights and taillights keep coming on and off even though the vehicle is not on at all. All switches are tuned off and it's not in accc mode. Had to disconnect battery and wait for tow truck.

4 Headlight Switch problem of the 2019 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/28/2019

After having my 2019 Hyundai that I bought brand new my headlights quite switching to high beams and would only run low beam headlights but instead of being bright they were dimmer than what they were suppose to be. I tried to exchange the headlights to see if the bulbs were burnt out and even with brand new bulbs the head lights still wouldn't switch over to high beams and were still very dim with brand new bulbs. Took it to the dealership and they couldn't figure out what the problem was even though I told them there was a burning smell coming from the wiring harness for both headlights and what looked like a relay board for the bright light switch looked burnt up instead of it looking like a shiny new silver board. Then about a week later both headlights went completely out and I couldn't drive at night due to not having any headlights so I replaced the bulbs again and again they gave me a dim light with no high beam lights. So to this day I am still having problems with . My headlights and no one from Hyundai can seem to figure out what's going on on this brand new 2019 Hyundai Elantra se.

5 Headlight Switch problem of the 2017 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 09/16/2019

While driving down the highway my headlights shut off completely. Leaving us driving in the dark. It has happened multiple times especially when trying to use blinkers or switch high beams on or off. I took my car to the dealership and they say it's the multifunction switch and want 372. 84 to replace it. My warranty has just run out and I have already had to replace the thermostat and now this is out as well as the back door lock actuator. I bought the car new, it's a 2017. I feel the switch and possibly the back door actuator must be faulty.

8 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 10/08/2016

Exterior lighting - parking lights turning on while car is turned off and parked. Usually happens overnight when the temperature drops close to or below freezing. Also headlights turning off on their own while car is running and turn signals are used. Hyundai dealership looked at car three times and could not reproduce the problem, and the only parts they replaced were a switch inhibitor (part 42700-26500) and a new car battery. None of this corrected the issue and they don't have a solution for us other than to complain to Hyundai. This leaves us with a car that is unsafe to drive at night and with a constant dead car battery. The Hyundai customer service case number we have is 9687427, and so far they have no solution for us and have not contacted us back for weeks now.

9 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 05/11/2013

My 2013 Elantra gt came equipped with factory drl's (daytime running lamps). Reading the owners manual completely, I've found the info on the light switch stalk settings misleading & doesn't offer a clear explanation. . The light switch indicates positions for, "drl off, parking lamps & headlamps", but the only way to operate drl's are while parking lamps switched on. That means, drl's along with full nighttime illumination of every exterior light except headlamps, including front & rear parking lights, side marker lamps & license plate lamps. I find the "limited" models have automatic headlamps control & are not included in this issue because their drl's run independent of other exterior lamps. I have contacted the dealer with this concern & was told, it is characteristic of this model (excluding the limited models). It is illegal in some states to run parking lamps, plus in order to have drl's on, the vehicle must provide extra power (reduced mpg's) to run all those other lamps, reduces bulb life, etc. In addition, the dash light illumination does not dim from full-bright when headlamps are switched on. There is a manual dimmer switch, but dimming must be raised/lowered each time before driving in day or night conditions. What other vehicle does this? these things seem to be an oversight on the part of Hyundai. No indication or discernable differences on instrumentation whether drl parking lamps or headlights are on.

10 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 02/18/2013

I recently purchased a new Hyundai Elantra GLS. One of the features on the sticker claims that there are daytime running lights. The switch that turns on/off the headlights is also the "drl off/on" switch. I contacted Hyundai via email and they refer me to the owners manual. In the state of georgia its illigal to drive with the parking lights on during the day (unless it's raining or visability is hendered. I beleive it may be illigal in other states also. These are not daytime running lights. The sticker on the car may claim it has daytime running lights, but its miss leading and it seems as a lie.

11 Headlight Switch problem of the 2013 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 06/16/2012

I recently got a new Hyundai Elantra GLS. The sticker claims that there are daytime running lights. When I called the dealer to find out why the daytime running lights on my car do not come on, they could not figure it out and suggested I call Hyundai. The same switch that turns off the headlights is also the "drl off" switch. There is no separate "drl on" switch. The Hyundai case manager told me that on the american-made models it is necessary to turn the parking lights on, and that this is the daytime running light system. Every car has parking lights; they are not on whenever a vehicle is running and must be turned on. These are not daytime running lights. Daytime running lights are supposed to be on whenever the headlights are not on. The sticker on the car may claim that the car has daytime running lights, but it seems to me that this is a lie; there are no daytime running lights on the car. A significant safety feature has been left off the car.

12 Headlight Switch problem of the 2006 Hyundai Elantra

Failure Date: 12/01/2010

Probable fire hazard: problem with frequent burning out of fuses to cigarette lighter (charger), some dash lights (back light for digital radio channel indicator) either no longer work or come off and on (ash tray light), ac and fan knobs--used to have to tap on them to get them to light, acted almost like a dimmer switch, sometimes had to tap several times to get to turn on, and sometimes knob back lighting on, but dim, and had to tap to get full power to bulbs, cd player overheating and stopped working--gives error message, (had similar cd player overheating with a 2003 Mitsubishi lancer I owned in early to mid-2000s, but cd player continued to work--elantra does not work more than a few seconds before ejecting cd. ) headlights burning out too frequently (including last time, when headlight removed on passenger side, light went out on driver's side as well. ) headlight had short and would come back on when I banged on lens with fist for several months, became more and more frequent until if finally burned out. Concerned of risk of electrical fire as engine area becomes hot. Note that clear-coat on hood over each headlight area and over fuse relay box area became yellow, then brittle, peeling off in past 6 months. Purchased vehicle in July 2008 or 2009? believe it had about 63,000 miles on it then--currently 138,000 miles. Airbag light says off when 200 lb. Husband seated on passenger side on occasion recently noticed in last year.
