6 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 12/08/2014

I was pulled over by a policeman who noticed that all of my rear brake lights were not working. There was no warning light on my dash to notify me of this problem. I took my car to the service department of a Hyundai dealership and they said a diode had failed. I was pulled over by a policeman about 2 years ago for the same issue (there was no indication on my dash of the non-working brake lights at that time either). So, this problem has happened twice in the four years that I've driven this car. This is a safety problem because when no rear brake lights illuminate then I'm at risk for a rear-end collision. There should be an indicator light on the dash that informs the driver of non-working rear brake lights. Especially when no rear break lights illuminate (as was my situation).

7 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 10/27/2014

All 3 brake lights stopped working. My wife driving behind me discovered the problem. This is the 2nd time of the same problem. (the 1st incident was also reported to NHTSA. ) the first time dealer fixed it, it's a burnt diode. Afterward a recall service was performed about brake light. Apparently none fixed the real issue. I am an electric engineer and I guess it was a common design mistake: the designer didn't count momentary high current from cold light bulb when choosing the component.

8 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/23/2014

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. While the vehicle was at a complete stop with the brake pedal depressed, the contact was alerted by another motorist that the brake lights were not illuminated. The vehicle was previously repaired according to NHTSA campaign number: 13v113000 (exterior lighting, service brakes, hydraulic); however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

9 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

I have encounter this problem multiple time with this vehicle through out my ownership. I bought the vehicle new and have encountered lost of brake lights repeatedly. I am usually informed during a scheduled maintenance that I have no brake lights. The service department replace the z01 diode, but it doesn't seem to be a permanent fix, because I've had this part replaced repeatedly due to lost of brake lights. The lost of brake lights is a very danger situation for all drivers that could result in crash, injury and fatalities. This seems to be a common issue with Hyundai Genesis vehicles per my investigation online.

10 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 08/30/2013

This is the second time brake lights failed. No indication to driver. Almost caused an accident. Same diode package replaced as the first failure reported less than a year ago and 5 k miles.

11 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 06/15/2013

None of the brake light works when brake applied. Updated 10/22/13.

12 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 04/01/2013

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The vehicle was repaired per NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). After receiving the repair, the brakes began to malfunction. The contact had to pump the brake pedal several times before the vehicle would come to a stop. Also, the brake lights failed to illuminate when the brakes were applied. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who informed the contact that the vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 14v713000 (exterior lighting). The contact received the repair for the recall; however, the failure of the brake pedal was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case on the vehicle. The VIN was unknown. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

13 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 03/21/2013

To my surprise I was stopped by a police officer in March 2013 because none of the brake lights were working. He issued a fix-it ticket. I took the car to a Hyundai dealership and they replaced a diode to fix the problem. Now less than six months later on August 31, 2013 I was told by another driver that my brake lights were not working (again). I took it to a Hyundai dealership and they replaced the diode again. Despite my asking why the brake lights keep failing, Hyundai dealership did not provide an explanation. This is dangerous because the vehicle operator has no knowledge of when the brake lights stop working and it could result in my vehicle being rear ended. I have no idea how long I was driving both times w/o brake lights working.

14 Brake Light problem of the 2011 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 10/01/2012

My 2011 Genesis sedan with 30,000 miles had brake lights fail 2 times. I would press the brakes and none of the brake lights would come on. On both occasions, the issue was due to a failed diode per the dealership. I noticed that there is a brake light recall from Hyundai-kia that I saw in the news today. However, the article seemed to suggest that it only covers the Genesis coupe. However, I can tell you that I had similar issues with the Genesis sedan as well with the diode failure mentioned above. On the first incident around 10/2012, another driver on the road alerted me regarding the issue. The second time, around 1/2013, I noticed it on the driveway.

15 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 11/08/2011

The brake lights repeatedly do not work and there is no warning to driver on dash board. This has now occurred three time: November 8, 2011 April 20, 2013 June 16, 2014.

16 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 09/01/2011

No brake lights when brake applied! I was told by passing car that almost tear ended me. I was completely unaware how long it had been like that as there was no indicator light.

17 Brake Light problem of the 2009 Hyundai Genesis

Failure Date: 02/25/2010

The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that the brake lights failed randomly. The dealer replaced the brake light diodes several times, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was notified. The approximate failure mileage was 8,110.
