Turn Signal Problems of Hyundai Genesis - part 1

When driving at night with headlights on auto, I put the turn signal on, and all lights (interior, dash, and headlights) randomly go out. This also happens randomly at night when changing lanes (using turn signal) and I must quickly turn them on manually. This specifically happens when using turn signal stalk, all lights will turn off unexpectedly. Big safety hazard for driving at night.

Combination day light running/turn signal - burn out and fail frequently. Have replaced 4 times in the last 18 months. Bulb socket shows signs of overheating - browning. Passenger side replacement difficult and had to take in for service. This is the same issue as reported in the following complaints. Nhtsa id numbers: 11269951, 11252633, 11204166, 11139934, 11033859, & 11020469 need the manufacturer to put out a bulletin to fix the problem.

It is very frightening and has happened several times so I took it to chantilly Hyundai and they could not recreate it so did nothing. This is a significant safety issue and has been reported to the NHTSA 5 times, by different people all over the country. Something has to be done.

The wiring harnesses also show significant signs of overheating. This is a very widely-known issue in the online forums for this car and is a completely unsafe issue. The drivers side bulb is easy to replace, but the passenger side is not. I have replaced the drivers side 3 times and the passenger side 2 times in the last year. Between bulbs and mechanic fees for the passenger side, I have spent $200-$300 in the last year maintain this unsafe problem.

With low beam headlights on while driving, activating the turn signal will turn on high beam headlights or cause the low beams to turn off intermittently (about half of turn signal operations). Lightly touching or tapping the light stalk will have the same effect. On occasion, the headlights will cease functioning on low beam with no driver activity. This problem has been occurring for the past 3 months. Other Genesis owners have reported the same problem on the Hyundai Genesis owners website. I have stopped driving the car at night.

The left and right front turn signals lamps burnt out at the same time, I then replaced both bulbs and they blew out again. On the third attempt only the left front lamp worked properly where as the side was still inoperable. I took the car to the dealer and they repaced the plug that the but bulb was attached to now I'm just waited to see if any other issues occur.

I've had to replace the turn signal bulbs several times (3 times so far). The 2015 model uses one light to function as both the daytime running light and also as the turn signal. It looks to me like they overheat and it was probably a bad design in my opinion. I feel like Hyundai needs to strongly consider a recall to rectify this ongoing problem. I don't ever remember having to replace a turn signal on any of the vehicles I've ever owned and it seems this will be an ongoing problem. It creates a bit of a safety issue too - being without a front turn signal when this happens. I put March 16 below as that was the most recent occurrence.

The headlights, whether in auto-mode or on-mode, will randomly turn off by themselves for a couple seconds, then cycle quickly back on and off, before turning back on after a few seconds. Within a 30min drive this typically will happen at least once. It is speed independent; it will occur at highway speeds, during rest at a stop light, driving through a parking lot, through dark twisting forest roads, etc. , etc. Sometimes, although not always, operating the turn signal will initiate the issue. As documented by video, when in auto-mode and the situation occurs, the "light-mode" dash display will quickly alternate between off and auto as the lights themselves cycle off and on. It is extremely dangerous for a driver and also surrounding vehicles, as all exterior lighting is lost and the vehicle goes dark.

Right daytime running light/turn signal replaced twice within 6 months. Both times was working when vehicle was parked, stopped working next time vehicle was driven. Both times, the car had been driven on both city streets and highways before being parked overnight.

The headlights will go out intermittently while driving. It happens when the turn signal is on. It has happened the vehicle is stopped at a red light/stop sign, and when the vehicle is on the highway or sexondary roads. It is very un nerving because you dont know when it might happen. It has been in the Hyundai dealership several times to be repaired but it atill has the same issue. I contacted Hyundai corp about 25 days ago and they still have not scheduled the car in to be checked out. They are not taking this serious at all. It is a safety concern to us.

When the headlights are in the "on" position they turn off when the turn signal is used. This happens consistently and is reproducible.

Headlights flash off or stay off when using the turn signals. At night when changing lanes or turning corners the headlights sometimes go off for a moment when engaging the left or right turn signal lever. Also the headlights sometimes turn off and stay off when completing a turn when the turn signal automatically turns off. One needs to jog the turn signal lever to get the headlights back on. This can be recreated when parked simply by operating the turn signals. This is an intermittent problem whether moving or parked. This problem seems to be independent of weather, speed or road conditions. I have seen many complaints and examples of this condition on you tube.

At night headlights turn off momentarily when in motion and using turn signals and turning.

Headlights turn off when turn signal is used at night. When making right turn last week at night used right turn signal approximately 100 ft prior to turning. Front lights went out and car turning in front of me almost hit me because they couldn't see me because my lights were off. Other Hyundai Genesis owners report the same problem. What is likely a faulty turn signal stalk causes the vehicle's headlights to either flicker, shut off or flash the high beams regardless if it is stationary or in motion. The headlights will flicker off in the "on" mode when using the turn signals, such as during lane changes. Sometimes will not turn back on until the turn signal stalk is bumped again. Car can be stationary or moving. Does not happen with headlights in "auto" mode.

When turning right, headlights in 'on' position and turn indicators functioning headlights flickered then went out for a period of 2-3 seconds once turn signals returned to neutral position. Have experienced same failure several times since initial. Dealer could not duplicate problem and refused to repair. Other Genesis drivers reporting same failure - some have had turn signal stalk replaced under warranty.

When using the turn indicator, the headlights will flash off. Sometimes it is just for a moment and other times for a second or two. This leaves me in complete darkness and opposing drivers getting upset that my lights are flashing on and off. This occurs whether I am in motion, stopped to make a turn, or at any time when the turn signal is used and the headlights are on. This also happens when just "tapping" the 3-blink lane change option for the turn signals.

Since I bought this car when I use the turn signals at night, my headlights would turn off a second or two. Also I've noticed a slightest movement or pressure on the turn signal stalk can caused the headlights to flicker. This events occurred randomly, around few times a week, but still causing a hazardous driving condition at night when the headlights are completely off for few seconds. This even occurred randomly when the turn signal stalk is used whether the car is moving or parking. I believed there is a problem with the light on/off & turn signal stalk design that causing the headlights to go off and/or flickering randomly when using the turn signal.

I was traveling on highway roads and made lane change. Upon activating the turn signal, the headlights turn off and remained off until the turn signal was deactivated. This has occurred intermittently since. This seems to be very dangerous for night driving on poorly lit roads.

When turn signal is turned on lights go off for 2 to 5 seconds seems to be getting worse, called dealer was told to bring in car for inspection, this is probably happening to other Genesis owners, have restricted my night driving due to safety concerns.

At night with headlights on when you use turn signals the headlight go out for a moment.

The headlights completely turn off for around a second when turn signal is engaged or disengaged. Problem happens sporadically and has only been observed when the headlights are in the on, not auto mode. This sudden and brief, unexpected lack of visibility at night is dangerous.

There has been numerous occasions when my headlights are on and I engage a turn signal, both headlights turn-off for a period of about 1 to 2 seconds. This can be deadly when traveling at a significant speed during hours of darkness.

When using turn signal at night the headlights turn off for a few seconds. Its done it since almost new intermittently.
