When the car gets wet, it sends my dashboard lights flashing, and I’m able to put the car in gear without stepping on the brake, I brought it to numerous of Honda dealerships and other mechanical shops, and they are undetermined to find the cause.

I am submitting this complaint regarding a catastrophic engine failure in my 2013 Hyundai Genesis coupe while driving at 70 mph on the highway. Without any prior warning, the engine suddenly started making a loud knocking noise from under the hood, and shortly after, the car lost power. There were no check engine lights or other indicators signaling an issue before the failure. I was able to safely pull the car over to the side of the highway without further incident, but the engine was completely inoperable. The vehicle has since been inspected by a certified mechanic, who confirmed that the engine failure was due to a mechanical defect, likely tied to the known issues with Hyundai’s 2. 0t engines. These engines have been reported to suffer from bearing failures and lubrication problems that can lead to catastrophic engine failure, which is consistent with my experience. Despite being aware of this widespread issue, Hyundai has yet to issue a recall for the affected vehicles, which is a serious safety concern. Drivers are at risk of unexpected engine failure with no prior warning, especially at high speeds, as was the case in my incident. I believe Hyundai’s failure to act and address this issue puts the safety of drivers in jeopardy. I am requesting that the national highway traffic safety administration (NHTSA) investigate this matter and encourage Hyundai to issue a recall for these vehicles. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request to further support the investigation. Thank you for your attention to this serious safety issue.

I have spent over thousands in 2024 in a small amount of time, going to multiple shops, trying to figure out issues. I have been told these models are known for having ecu and electrical issues. My car will not set off any codes. I have greatly maintained my vehicle. I have had my keys reprogrammed, 2 new batteries, 2 new alternators, all new 6 fuel injectors, new map sensor, all new spark plugs and plugs, had my engine and transmission inspected, and when I am in traffic with my kids in the vehicle the immobilizer will set off and bog my car out in traffic and highways. This computer and electrical system is horrible and dangerous. The electrical is parasitic draining my alternator and battery although I have replaced twice in 2 month. No shop can figure out what is wrong with the ecu and electrical. It is draining my pockets, and putting my children and myself at saftely risk. I have done extensive research on this issue. I have seen many people, same car, same issue. Please help. My car will turn on and run fine. Put me in limp modes and even just bog out in traffic. I am very concerned.

I visited mission hills Hyundai located at 10240 sepulveda bl, mission hills CA 91345 on Jul 31, 2024 for recall after appointment. I waited 2 & half hour, and Hyundai told me the recall service completed but not done. It was perfectly lying. Hyundai explained my car's break disc has problem and cut it and then put together, but only done for resurface. They charged $824 as a labor. Please confirm them and recall service was not doing even Hyundai sent recall service letters many times. Hyundai service is not good. Thank you.
There is a code that comes on my car, makes the engine light come on then it goes out on its own . And every year it’s back on same code. Has been happening for years . I took it to the dealership 2xs for the same reason each time they said nothing was wrong cleared the code and the engine light went out. This year being the 9th year having the vehicle the engine light kept coming back on every day after it was cleared and nothing found. So the happy Hyundai dealership ship said leave the car overnight and see if the engine light is back on and if so he can see then what the issue is because it won’t be historical. I paid $212 for diagnostic, and then a few days he said leave overnight. He discovered that the throttle body had an issue and suggested cleaning. But the car goes in limp mode and I couldn’t accelerate but 20-25 mph. The first 20 mins of driving every day. Then it takes off. He determined that an accelerator pedal position sensor was bad. And I went years without any one diagnosing this. My car only has 34550miles approximately. And it’s almost 9 years old. 34k miles a sensor shouldn’t be bad that soon. The codes were p0651/ and p2106. And now in 2024, someone finally figured it out. But now it’s been almost 9 years and I’m paying $900 or 1k for replacement when it was clearly something wrong years ago . Undiagnosed.
The car accelerates itself randomly. It’s happened with a lot of Genesis’s of this generation. Almost crashed due to it. Very unsafe. Gave the vehicle to a friend and the problem reoccurred and he captured a video that I have.
While driving, throttle stuck wide open. It was like I was flooring the gas pedal. I managed to pull over and stop vehicle. I restarted and was able to drive home.

Vehicle would not shift up to the next gear and and started attempting to shift but failing every time as it passed 2000 rpms. Incident happened while passing another vehicle, after an extended time of vehicle not being able to accelerate while attempting to pass the brakes had to be applied in order to avoid a collision with an incoming vehicle. The vehicle later failed completely and all power from the engine was lost and started rapidly decelerating then finally came to a complete stop. Instrument and electric power was still on but there was no power from the engine. Vehicle would not move for about 15 minutes, then it finally had limited power to 45mph.
I got into an accident in October 2019 where I was rear ended and carried into another vehicle but my air bags did not deploy although my headrests did deploy but prior to the accident my car would fishtail when making turns when the roads were wet and while driving on the highway trying to merge into traffic my car loses acceleration all on its own and then gradually picks up speed again I've almost got hit several times because of this. Also my car has shut off on its own in traffic with heavy traffic it was very scary we didn't know what was happening to the car and this has happened twice. Now my car is showing a lot of hard code errors from the abs/esc system to power seat modules they say it's something wrong with the computer system itself because it doesn't notify you of any issues on the dashboard at all. And today I took it to a mechanic shop and multiple b codes showed up which didn't make any sense even cam sensor codes and I just got this car in March 2019.

Car began to accelerate after starting and put into gear. I didn't touch the accelerator pedal, nor was the floor mat touching the pedal. I had to put the car in neutral and shut it off. After shutting off and restarting, it did this 3 more times. It accelerated while still in park, almost to 3000 rpm before I shut it off. Fourth time, it restarted without any problems.
As I exited the freeway I shifted out of 6th gear (70mph) and pressed the brakes taking it down to 40mph. The rpms continued to rev up to 6k and beyond. The brakes did respond, so I felt there wasn't immediate danger. I immediately pulled over to the shoulder and stopped my car by turning off the key. Turning the car back on, not in any gear, not pressing the gas, the rpms began to rev just as high again. So I turned the key off again. I decided to try again, started the car, it began revving up the rpms. I shifted into first gear to see what would happen and it began to decrease in rpm. Then it became normal. But now there is a knocking noise in the engine when I accelerate that was not present before. It's less noticeable at 1st and 2nd gear, but gets more pronounced from 3rd gear onward. There were no warning lights, no check engine light. I took it to firestone where they told me it's possible that the engine may need replaced. I did find there was a report of engine processing flaws that could result in a knocking noise on various news sites but nothing official. This car has only 40k~ miles. It was manufactured in 2011 as I bought it hot off the lot at 6miles on the odometer. I get regular oil changes using synthetic oil only. It's mint. No reason for this to be occurring.

My car was perfectly operational but suddenly during regular driving on the 101 highway it showed solid check engine sign. I checked the error and it read p0880 I had taken my car to the Hyundai dealer (keys) where they diagnosed it as tcm internal failure and recommended changing the tcm after paying for the part and installation ($994. 00 and $162. 00 for diagnosis) the dealer installed the part and came back to inform me that the issue persists after part's installation and that they are going to work with the electricity to fix the problem. Dealer informed me that they shall work on the circuits but not with any transmission problem. As this issue happened with regular use, I believe it to be manufacturing issue that must be carried out and fixed by Hyundai.
My vehicle showed solid check engine light while I was on 101 freeway and after exiting to city road I could park and read the error code "p0880 power input to tcm", I reported the issue to Hyundai dealer and they diagnosed the issue as internal tcm defect. Dealer replaced the tcm but that couldn't fix the problem. And they just released the car as is. After a short while my car had become unable to reverse, and when set the gear to reverse, my car moves forward to make a very life threatening. I called Hyundai corporate office but they didn't help. Now, I cannot drive my car because it is unsafe and because because I'm not a mechanic to diagnose the problem while the dealer and the corporate don't help. I found out that the model of my car is a subject to recall for gear problem which is exactly what I face now. It seems that both of the dealer and the corporate office are aware of the issue in this particular model but they did not even mentioned it to me until I found it by myself. A car like that is unsafe for me to drive because it runs forward only even when the gear is reverse and if stops I cannot even push it backwards. A car with this defect is dangerous for my community. Please help to force that company either replace the car for me, repurchase or repair it to full operational status. .
While making a right turn onto ramp engine falls cuts off and I have no control over steering, breaks or anything. Finally got it on to the side of road and put it in park and it cracked right up. This is very scary. What if I had been going fast down the road and could not stop the car. Someone could be killed like this. I decided to look it up on google and found out that lots of other have had the same identical problems and no mechanic or anyone can find anything. Hyundai needs to be held accountable for this and fix there miss up but of course it will take people being killed first.
The issue is that this vehicle losses acceleration and cannot be operator corrected while driving. This is a major safety issue.

The vehicle accelerate on it on when is in park gear. I turn off the engine to stop the acceleration of rpm, I turn off engine when I saw it goes up to 6000 rpm, which I believe it could continue to raise. The vehicle also accelerate on it on when it in drive gear ( local and highway ), I safely pull over, put in park gear ( still accelerate ) and turn off engine. Overall it happen once a month since 2017, but 2 weeks ago ( 08/07/2017-08/13/2017) it happen twice. I bring it in dealership and they cannot find anything wrong with it using computerize test.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. While driving approximately 5 mph and approaching an intersection, the vehicle stalled. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact switched to park and restarted the vehicle. The contact also stated that the failure occurred twice on July 10, 2017. The vehicle was taken to orlando Hyundai in orlando, florida for diagnostic testing and the throttle body was cleaned. The dealer was not able to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 42,000.
On July 4 2017 at approximately 7:30am et I was waiting to park and had my foot on the brake when suddenly the engine revved and accelerated, moving the car forward and crashing into the passenger rear bumper of a parked Ford f-150. I pressed even harder on the brakes and the car continued to move forward as if it was sliding on ice; it created tire skid marks from my front tires - supporting that the brakes were engaged. I attempted to put the car in neutral and the engine continued to rev faster. The nose of my car was lowered due to my pressing on the brakes and as a result the front end of my car went under the bumper of the truck and began lifting the truck until it finally came to a stop. The conditions were sunny and the asphalt was dry. On Friday June 23 at approximately 2:00pm et I was backing down my driveway, which has a slight vertical decline, so the brakes were engaged. The car's engine suddenly revved and accelerated down the driveway into the street; once again, it felt as if I was sliding. The brakes were fully engaged. I was able to place the transmission in neutral and the car came to a stop. I placed the car in park and turned off the engine and restarted without any issue. Regarding the June 23 incident, the car was not driven for approximately 6-8 days. Relating to the incident on July 4; the last time the car was driven was on June 23. From June 23 through July 4 the car was parked at the airport. The only parallel that I can draw between these two instances is that the engine rev and acceleration occurred after the car had not been driven for a period of time. My research indicates this happened to many other drivers; however, the manufacturer claims there is no issue with the car and that it is human error; avoiding accountability. I will take a polygraph to prove this was not human error, rather a mechanical failure.
On June 2, 2017, I was attempting to park my vehicle in a parking stall at a minimum speed of 5-8 mph. Suddenly, the engine revved up, instrument panel flashed and radio changed stations. When trying to brake the car, the brakes did not engage and I subsequently hit a wall. The airbags did not deploy. When the ealer came to get the car, the individual picking up the car indicated something was wrong with the breaking mechanism. However, the dealer and manufacturer says nothing was wrong with the car but won't provide the details of the report.
The contact owned a 2016 Hyundai Genesis. While the vehicle was in the driveway and the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle accelerated independently. The vehicle crashed through the garage door and into the house. The vehicle was destroyed, but remained at the contact's residence. There were no injuries. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 805. The VIN was not provided.

"takata recall" I was in motion driving less than 30miles/hour in traffic, stopping few times and kept a good distance. All of a sudden, I applied the brakes to stop but the vehicle did not stop and kept moving fast. I applied the brakes soo hard, vehicle did not stop the collision system that was suppose to stop the vehicle and avoid the collison did nothing. I reported the same issue when I took the vehicle to the dealership during my 1st service and expressed concern regarding the sensors not working. The car has only 6,000 miles. The day was sunny and this happen during rush hour off on golf road in des plaines illinois.
When accelerating while turning a corner the engine loses power completely. In a heavy traffic situation this has caused near accidents and oncoming drivers to slam on the brakes. Vehicle begins at a dead stop. 1/2 way thru the turn there is always a complete loss of power and car stalls for several seconds until power returns. This happens every time while accelerating around a corner. Scary.
The contact owns a 2015 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 40 mph, the contact felt the vehicle was rear ended and the vehicle launched forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was undetermined. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned the second time the failure happened, the contact almost crash into another vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer multiple times and the failure was undetermined. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure the approximate failure mileage was 21,000.
I was turning to park in my parking space and all of a sudden the car began to accelerate with such speed that I thought it would jump the curb and crash into my home. I was unable to stop the car and the brakes were unresponsive. It hit the curb and finally came to a stop with a terrible shudder/noise.
On December 22nd, 2015, I was driving the car into my parking lot at my office when the car began to accelarate on its own. This is the second time in the last 6 months that the engine has accelarated without depressing the accelerator and then continued to rev higher when the car is put into park. If it was not for some quick thinking, I almost went into a wall of the garage. I immediately called the Hyundai dealer and spoke to the service manager. He could hear the reving of the car. He asked if I felt safe driving it to the dealer which I did. All thoughout the ride, the car continued to accelarate on its own. When I arrived at the dealer and turned the car off, the car stopped doing this. The dealer kept the car for 5 weeks and could not duplicate or find any problems. I have asked to speak to someone at Hyundai to see what the next steps are if it happens again.
On December 18, 2015 at approximately 4:45pm, my husband and I were beginning our trip to an event. We were stopped at a stop light, about the 4th or 5th car in line to turn left onto a major road. There are 2 lanes for turning left and we were in the turn lane next to the lane that goes straight across the main road because we were going to have to make the first right onto the interstate after getting on the main road. We had already come to a complete stop and had been stopped for probably a minute or so. Cars were also stopped behind us. It is a steep hill, and we were facing uphill so his foot was firmly on the brakes. Then all of a sudden the engine just started roaring like it was full throttle and it took off forward and hit a Nissan frontier pickup truck in front of us. It went under the truck¿s bumper and kept plowing forward. He tried to take it out of gear and it would not go. We watched as the hood kept crumpling more and more as we were lifting up the truck as we were going under it. The back wheels of the truck were off of the ground. I finally thought to reach over and turn the engine off. Thank the lord, it shut off before anyone got hurt.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while idle at a stop light, the vehicle accelerated and crashed into the rear of another vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. A police report was filed. No injuries was sustained. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 38,233. Jw.
I was driving from rhode island to north carolina and when I was driving west across the tappan zee bridge near new york city and had gotten to the other side of the bridge, I lost throttle response. The car began to slow down in heavy traffic and I had to cross three lanes to get to the right hand lane. The check engine light was on steady at this point. By the time I reached the right hand lane, the car was going only about 35 mph and I was very lucky that I was not hit by other vehicles on the bridge, who were dodging me at high speed on both sides. . This was a very scary situation and could easily have resulted in fatalities. Fortunately, there was an exit on the other side of the bridge and I managed to get off i287 and find a place to stop. I checked the internet and found reports that other people had experienced similar events and that the car returned to normal after turning off the engine and restarting it. My wife, who was with me, recalled that something similar happened to her 2004 Hyundai santa fe several years ago when it was driven locally by one of my sons. So after about 20 minutes, I restarted the car and found that throttle control had returned and we continued on our way. After stopping to eat later in the day, and returning to the car, the check engine light had gone off and has been off ever since. I managed to return to rhode island yesterday without any further problems, but am now afraid that this might happen again and that I will not be so lucky the next time. I have not had time yet to have the dealer check out the car, but plan to do so as soon as possible. This is clearly a serious safety issue and I am surprised that there has not been a recall to fix this problem, especially considering that it appears to be something that has been happening to Hyundai cars, (and possibly others), for some time now.
I owned the car for 9 months and never had a problem in the rain. It was raining and my car safety lights started flashing telling me that front collision warning was not working, lane departure warning was not working, blind spot detection was not working. And to check aeb system. Hyundai told me that although it worked fine for 9 months, that the safety features may not work in the rain.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis coupe. On several occasions, while driving, the contact applied pressure to the brake pedal and heard an abnormal noise coming from the brake pedal. While the brake pedal was depressed, the vehicle failed to stop and accelerated without warning. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to geweke Ford (871 e onstott rd, yuba city, CA 95991 (530) 821-2121), but no diagnostic failure codes were found and the failure could not be replicated. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact referenced NHTSA campaign number: 13v489000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 30,000.
Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 3 mph, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into two vehicles that were parked. A police report was not filed and there were no injuries reported. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 20,000. Djr.
I was driving at 35 mph in the lane, the car on the left lane hit the rear body and tire of driver side, but the car didn't stop even after the impact. After the collision, I pressed very hard on the break pedal to stop, but it kept moving, even increased its speed up to 60 mph, and turned into the different direction. Also the wheel was stuck by itself and I was not able to turn anywhere with my hands. It went off the opposite side of the road without any control. 20 years old Toyota camry was able to stop at the spot of collision, but Hyundai Genesis couldn't. The wheel and the break were both stuck and unable to be controlled and crashed into the electric pole. The air bag was deployed, and Hyundai Genesis was totaled. In 2014, the break recall service was received two times from the dealer. There must be the mechanical failure in the break, speed control, and the wheel which caused this total loss. I was injured and taken by the ambulance later. I never had any accidents like this before with any other cars!.
While driving the car, the car speeds up on its own without me pushing the accelerator. The car also has rev hang and the rpms rise by its self and stays their. Usually between 6500rpm. I have to press the break in order for the rpms to drop so its doesn't blow the motor.
Got jackrabbit yesterday evening(aprl. 13 Sunday 2014, 6:30pm ). When I tired exit to roadway from parking lot, motor rev up by itself and break system could not stopped vehicle completely. I could hear the squeaking noise from breaks even I push the break pedal deep, I still was in the parkinig lot and could stear onto empty parking space and shifted lever to "neutral" and right after that, motor rpm jumped over 6000 with loud motor noise. I shot off the motor and a little later, reignite over and over, same thing happened. About 20 minutes later, symptiom disappeared by itself. I think I was lucky because I was not on the highway. I video recorded this with my Smart phone.
This is my 2nd time that has happened, 1st time was about in Feb 15. 2014 and 2nd, on April 2,2014. Both times, I was on richmond hwy alexandria va driving abot 45 to 50 miles per hour. All of sudden the car decelerated to about 5 miles and I was flooring the pedal. I was in such a shock about this incident being that my car is only 1 year old. So we took it to the alexandria Hyundai dealership. The repair was very fast, they informed me that the throttle programming was off. I was in fear of my life since I drive through tunnels and bridges. I trusted that it will be fixed permanently but to find out that 2 months later I had to experience deathly re occurrence. I was so petrified and did not want to drive that car again so I requested to exchange to another car. My husband did all of the transactions for the new car. Few days later, paper work arrived, the salesman came to my work during busy time so I didn't have chance to read in details. Well the paper work read that my new car was 2013 instead of 2014. I was so upset in addition to my other issue and not wanting the same model and year. I feel that this car and may be the model is very dangerous and need to report for consumer to be aware of this problem. Thank you.
