This has been an ongoing issue, I have filed at least 4 complaints concerning a "soft pedal " issue. The dealer has inspected my vehicle recently as well as Hyundai America and I am still awaiting a response as to what was found. The vehicle was inspected on 1/22/2014. Note on service invoice states " dpsm has been out to drive and inspect vehicle. No person from parkway Hyundai can give any further information. This is a matter for Hyundai motor America. " it has been 5 months since the inspection and hma has still not contacted me. I don't know what is going on with this website but it nolonger shows the Genesis under Hyundai if searching for complaints, recalls or investigation. As we approach this holiday period I hope that there are no serious accidents as a result of the "soft pedal" issue as well as a read collision at low speed that triggers the head seat restraint to deploy and throws both front seat passengers forward and the seat belts won't deploy at this low speed. Just another complaint that hasn't been address. Is the NHTSA overloaded with all the recalls from indication over the years. Gm as an example.

I had to put in a date to make this work this a problem from the first day I bought the car. From a stop if I accelerated to a few miles per hour and for some reason I had to stop, when I pushed down on the accelerator nothing happened. After a second or two the car jumped forward and if another car was close I would have I would have rear ended it. Obviously, I am extra cautious and have avoided this problem. I reported it to the dealer twice and got the same answer, "OH they all do that. " the dealers are protecting Hyundai. Who will protect me? I checked online and found that there are many people with this problem. One person said he turned off the tracking control system. This is a dangerous problem especially for an inexperienced or novice driver.

The vehicle accelerated without the gas pedal having a force applied thereto and with the brake pedal being depressed. Once the automatic transmission was placed in park, the engine operated at over 3,000 rpm without the gas pedal being depressed. Once the engine is turned off and restarted the vehicle operates normally for a short period of time.

Twice today, while driving in stop/go traffic, the car felt as if it was accelerating on its own. When I took the foot of the brake to go, the car would jolt forward on its own. Had to press the brake bery hard to make sure it wouldnt go by itself. I had to pull over, afraid I would hit car. When I put it on neutral, the engine revved to 3000rpms and it stayed there. My foot was not on the gas pedal at all. When I tried shifting back to drive, it jolted forward. The only way to get it to stop doing this was to turn the engine off. After the first time, I drove about 30 min in 40mph traffic, before it did it again. At times the car felt like it didnt want to accelerate when I wanted to. Then as traffic slowed down, started accelerating on its own again. This is not the first time this happens. I brought the car to the Hyundai dealership several months back for the same issue and they said they found nothing wrong. Someone needs to look into this before someone gets hurt.

While driving 25 mph I tried to accelerate the vehicle to avoid collision. Vehicle hesitated to accelerate for a few seconds when accelerator pedal was pressed. Later I tested a vehicle noticed similar consistent hesitation at various speeds. Took vehicle to the dealer. Hesitation was recreated and documented, however dealer was unable to find anything wrong with the vehicle and based on that stated that condition is normal, refusing repair.
I have a 2010 Hyundai Genesis 3. 8 coupe 6-speed automatic with paddle and sport shift. I have had an ongoing issue with the vehicle for several months now not shifting properly. Sometimes it wont shift out of 1st gear and when it does it will unknowingly downshift and get stuck in a gear. Since the issue began, I have received several speeding tickets and had near death experiences due to the shifting. Sometimes it will increase and decrease speeds and the rpms will raise sometimes up to 6000 before it will shift or I have to place the car in park and turn off the ignition for the shifting to begin working properly again. I have to ask myself everyday if I am willing to risk my life for the issue because I have had so many near death experiences with this. It definitely needs to be looked into!!!.

While driving at 65 mph in 4 lane I-95 rush hour traffic, the check engine light and the esc light both came on and the car would not accelerate. Pressing on the gas pedal had no effect. I turned on flashers and drifted my way through 3 lanes and pulled over and restarted the car. The check engine light came on but not the esc light. The car ran a bit rough with the check engine light on. The exact same thing happened the next day. I took the car to the dealer, and they replaced the throttle position sensor. Based on owner reports at the Genesis owners web site, this has happened to many owners of 2009 v6 Hyundai Genesis. This is very dangerous, and the car should be recalled to fix this potential deadly situation. If I had been driving in the left lane of a highway, a serious accident with potential deaths could have happened. I had to pay 325 dollars to have this issue fixed since it has not been recalled. Please work with Hyundai to ensure this major safety issue is recalled urgently.
On 4/18/13 at 2125 hours, unit 1 was traveling eastbound in lane two of northern avenue approaching north 59th avenue. It does not shift properly causing it to decrease or increase speed without pressing the gas pedal. The problem also causes the vehicle to exceed recommended rpm level which causes the vehicle to get stuck in one gear and makes it difficult to stop the vehicle. This issue has caused instances where I have had to swerve off the road to avoid collision.
While in traffic, stopped and attempting to change to next left hand lane, car stalls for a few seconds instead of accelerate, then it takes off after delay. The delay will cause an accident. Have mentioned this to the dealer and they do nothing. Dealer says everything is operating as designed. Posted this incident on Genesis forum and have gotten numerous complaints describing the same problem as I have been experiencing. We have had the car now just over 1 year now and it still does the hesitation. This issue needs to be addressed before some one gets killed due to no accelerator response when in traffic. Other than this problem, we like the 2013 Genesis very much.
When starting my car, rpms jumped to 4 without press any pedals. And my car was shaking and really big sound from engine while its on park. And I switched to drive mode and suddenly my car move forward by itself. And then hit sidewalk and heatshield got damaged. I went to dealership. But no problem found. I was really scared, I thought im gonna die.
Auto hold technology feature failed at a stop light. When on, auto hold illuminates white, and green when it is actively holding the vehicle in place, without the need to depress brake pedal. On a stop light car jerked forward and the auto hold illumination turned orange in color from green. Auto hold feature would not reset even when restarting vehicle. Dealership was able to reset, citing a shortage in the auto-hold unit, with a replacement part ordered. Potentially dangerous if there was anyone in front of the vehicle at the time of failure, as it could of resulted in a potential injury.
Tl-the contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving at low speeds in reverse, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The contact crashed into a post but did not sustain any injuries. The police were not contacted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where the manufacturer was contacted and sent an investigator to inspect the vehicle. The investigation concluded that they were unable to diagnose the failure and would send the contact a formal letter with the details of the investigation. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure and current mileages were approximately 905. Kmj.
The contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. While driving approximately 70 mph the vehicle suddenly decelerated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for diagnostic testing and the technician stated the throttle control had to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.
The contacts owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated that while driving 55 mph, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who inspected vehicle and determined that the failure was caused by a faulty throttle position sensor. The vehicle was repaired by replacing the throttle position sensor. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and a claim was filed with the manufacturer. The approximate current and failure mileage was 15,000.
Driving on the freeway and the throttle just cuts off, no throttle power. Car is still running. Quickly had to pull over on to the side of the road and had to shut car off and then restarted it. It worked but it continues to happen. It happened seven times in one day, with my child in the car. At one point there wasn't a shoulder to pull over to I had to stop in the middle of the freeway. Hyundai has no recall for this issue. I find that strange since this could be a serious issue. The esc and check engine light comes on.
2010 Hyundai Genesis. Consumer states brake/ accelerator issues with vehicle the consumer stated six to eight months ago, he began to experience a troubling problem with the brake /accelerator, which manifested itself by frequently causing the vehicle to jump ahead or jerk forward when shifting his foot from the accelerator to the brake pedal usually when intending to come to a stop. At times, the tendency for the vehicle to continue to move forward required an immediate strong braking effort to overcome that tendency and to actually stop the vehicle. The consumer stated he had only experienced the problem, while in forward gear.
Car will not accelerate properly in 1st & 2nd gear and tends to want to stall when reaching a certain rpm; car will not go beyond 40 mph; check engine light comes on; unable to determine when the defect is about to occur making the car unreliable and unsafe to drive; defect occurs will vehicle is in mid-operation while driving on road regardless of speed. Defect(s) have resulted in several near collision experiences, since cars behind vehicle have almost rear-ended vehicle as they did not expect the car to decelerate with no brake light indication of the vehicle slowing down and is therefore a danger to drive. Driver unable to safely merge with traffic on major highways as the vehicle does not accelerate properly and will not go faster than 40 mph, making it impossible to merge seamlessly with traffic thereby placing driver and drivers of other vehicles in danger and safety risk. Driver unable to use side-roads as an alternate measure, as car does not accelerate properly and tends to want to stall when pulling off in 1st and 2nd gear resulting in cars behind vehicle almost rear-ending vehicle. Three attempts have already been made to repair the defect, yet defect continues to occur.

Traveling to indiana from north carolina on the 6th of may 2011. On a rural road traveling approximately 55 mph, all of a sudden the engine light and esc warning lights came on. After that when I pressed on the accelerator, there was no power. Electricity was still there and the engine was still on, but no power from the gas pedal. I had to turn the emergency lights on and moved onto the side. I was lucky because there weren't many cars around. It would have been pretty dangerous if there were cars around and my car suddenly stopped. I was able to turn the car off and restart. When I restarted the car the engine light remained on but I had regain the ability to accelerate. I pulled into a hotel and called Hyundai. The closest dealer was gaddis Hyundai of muncie, indiana. The service department was closing but I discussed with technician. He indicated that it was common problem with the throttle sensor. He indicated that he would be able to fix it Monday, but that if the light went off and it was running ok, it may never happen again. I told him that I need to be durham , nc on Monday. He indicated that if it happen again. To turn off and restart and it should reset. On my way back from indiana to north carolina I stayed in the right hand lane. On 4 separate occasions the vehicle lost power and I was unable to accelerate. Each time I was able to pull over to the side of the road, turn the vehicle off, wait a few minutes and then restart and continue. The car is currently at the stevenson Hyundai dealership in jacksonville, nc. Here is a forum web site that reflects similar problem identified on numerous occasions related to the Hyundai Genesis v6 and v8. . Read more...
Tl- the contact owns a 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The contact stated while decelerating at an unknown low speed. The contact attempted to stop behind an idle vehicle thats was stopped at a traffic light when suddenly, the vehicle independently accelerated . The contact crashed in to rear of the vehicle. The contact was not injured. A police report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The dealer relished the brake fluid. Several months later while the contact attempted to park into a parking lot space when suddenly, the vehicle independently accelerated. The contact's vehicle went over a cement barrier and then crashed into the handicap parking sign in front of the parking space. No injuries or police report was filed. The vehicle was repaired. Several months again. The contact was approaching a red light when suddenly the vehicle independently accelerated when the contact attempted to decelerate. No injuries were reported. A police report was filed. The vehicle was repaired. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The cause of the independent acceleration was never determined. The failure mileage was 80,000. The VIN was not available. Az.
When starting the vehicle with foot on the clutch, it lurched forward hitting a parking barrier. Dealer denied mechanical causes. From the time I bought the car, it has accelerated on it's own, going to the max in rpms, at random times. I can take my foot off the gas and it will drive itself. When I try to come to a stop, it will accelerate and I have to counter by hitting the brake. When taken to the dealer, they couldn't "replicate" it. When I argued with the man, he said he would honor the warranty when they could replicate it, though the warranty is now expired. I asked for something in writing, he initialed the work order. Also, the front, under the bumper, is way too low and made of weak material, so when I have to go over any kind of dip, it drags, which has caused the piece to break. This also got up into the fender-well, which caused a hazard with my tires. I am stressed and scared of having a dangerous accident. I am considering trading the car in, but worry for the next owner. I no longer trust Hyundai. I feel like my safety is not a priority for the company. They do not search for the cause, just send me back out in a defective vehicle.
Lost complete ability to accelerate on highway traveling at 70 mph. No warning, happened twice more before I got it back to a dealer. Car did not shut off but would not accelerate. Restarted after I managed to get off in the breakdown lane. The car would go another few miles and konk out again. I immediately went to the closest Hyundai dealer. They said it was a throttle position sensor. Could really have been fatal.
While driving the car, the engine loses power. Engine and electrical systems still running but when pushing the accelerator, you get no response. This has happened twice within the last 5 days. We have called and setup an appointment with the dealership, but the earliest appointment was this Friday. Luckily we were not in heavy traffic or a serious accident could of occurred.
When I was trying to enter an expressway from an entry ramp, I stepped on the gas and got no response. The engine did not rev up as it would if the car was in neutral. I coasted to the apron , turned off the car, and restarted it. The gas responded normally after restarting but the engine light stayed on. I took it into the dealer and they reprogrammed the engine control unit, which, so far, has fixed the problem. I was told that the computer just lost track of the accelerator position. While this is not quite as dangerous as Toyota's problem, it could still get someone killed if they are trying to pull out in traffic and gets no gas response. On the Genesis owners forum there are at least 2 other similar incidents that have been reported. I wrote to Hyundai to report this issue and they responded that they would log this incident. However I do not know when they send info to NHTSA.
What I had believed to be somewhat of a nuisance problem has now become a very critical problem. A couple of times after purchasing this Hyundai Genesis coupe 2. 0 while trying to normally accelerate, the car virtually died. Acceleration flat spot. Somewhat similar to the old carbureted cars. Very infrequent, however, the other day losing acceleration almost caused a major accident. Very close.
