1 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/05/2020

Fuel sensor bad, gauge moves from full to empty before my eyes on a full tank of gas. Engine light comes on, low fuel light comes on. Mechanic tells me that this should be covered by Hyundai with a recall but there is no recall. Worries me constantly, have to fill up after 60 miles every time.

2 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2019

Issue 1) fuel sensor had to be replaced, one was done by me the other by mechanic. It stopped showing how much gas I had in tank so I had to guess. Seems to be a know. And recurring issue issue 2) headlights have all of a sudden stopped working, the high beamss work issue 3) the driver lock no longer works but others do and the gas door no longer unlocks from driver door so I have to use the emergency release to get at the tank. Issue 4) the latch for the hood is stuck open, this has been a known issue on another model from the same year. I can get mechanic records for fuel issue, that was about 1. 4 years ago. Headlights were yesterday and hood as of today. The door issue within last few months and gas door within 2 years.

3 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/06/2019

Engine light stays on and the fuel needle stays on empty after the tank is full.

4 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2018

My check engine light came on. When I took it to my mechanic the reason was my fuel sensor is not working. My gas gauge does not tell me how much gas is in the car. The repair would be costly and requires the removal of the gas tank. Due to this defect, my car will not pass MD emissions testing. The gas gauge works intermittently to let me know how much fuel is in the car so I need to monitor how many miles between fill ups in order to not run out of gas. It operates sporadically while moving or stopped.

5 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/23/2017

About a month ago the check engine light illuminated. I had about a half tank of gas at the time. While waiting on a passenger the fuel gauge went to empty. I thought perhaps I had a leak, but didn't notice or smell gasoline. I went to the fueling station and filled up. It only took about 7 gallons to fill the tank. When the tank gets to aprox half full the needle will travel to empty. I have searched for a recall, but found none. When researching the recall I noticed that this is a very common problem on these Santa Fe vehicles.

6 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2017

Intermittent failure of fuel gauge sensor caused fuel gauge to show fuel empty caution light to come if the tank was empty or not empty. Have run out of gas because of this issue. Have seen online many complaints about this problem with 2007 Hyundais. Because of the extensive problem, Hyundai should recall this and bear the cost of this expensive repair.

7 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/10/2016

While driving, "check engine" light illuminated. "low fuel" warning light illuminated. Fuel gauge indicated nearly empty even though tank was close to half full. Check engine" light always illuminated.

8 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2016

2007 Hyundai Santa Fe fuel gauge floats from full to empty. Bad sensors. Cost to replace is nearly 1000. 00 considerable safety issue, as you never know precisely how much fuel is left in tank. Asking for recall.

9 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2016

Takata recall . Gas gauge shows empty even when tank is full. I ran out of fuel on the highway and almost had a rear end collision . Gas gauge showed I had 1/2 a tank of fuel . I was stationary in the middle lane on I-77.

10 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2016

This model vehicle has the following issue reported - see internet sites - all too often and Hyundai has taken no remedial action. Together with the check engine light the fuel gauge is very erratic due to sensors failing in the fuel tank that sends the fuel level reading to the dashboard fuel gauge. In addition to being a costly consumer repair due to the manufacturer defect; this is very probably a safety issue in that without a reliable fuel indicator on the instrument cluster the vehicle operator could easily, unknowingly, run out of fuel while driving and causing an accident with the possibility of those in the SUV being injured or worse. This problem exists whenever the SUV is being driven on a roadway as well as when parked with the engine on or running. This SUV only has 44,000 miles on it.

11 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 03/02/2016

Fuel sensors failed and need to be replaced at a cost of $550. . The check engine light went on and the fuel gauge light went on indicating the was no fuel, but the gas tank was full. The fuel gauge dial indicator also dropped to down to zero and is inconsistent with the reading. Sometimes it goes up and then it drops. This has been a wide spread problem encountered by many Hyundai owners. The service techs are well aware a problem exists. No other car I have ever owned has had this costly problem. Hyundai should forced to do a recall.

12 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/13/2016

Gas gage is not working, I have to always fill my tank up I never know how much gas I have in my tank. I have ran out of gas several times. This is a safety issue because I have ran out of gas in heavy traffic areas. I've checked all the fuses and they all work.

13 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2015

Both fuel sensors failed and need to be replaced at a cost of $551. No other car I have owned has had this costly problem. Hyundai should do a recall.

14 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/17/2015

Gas gage said empty so I went to put gas in it the pump kept shutting off so I moved and went another pump I starting put gas in the car and the gas came flying out of the car pouring all over me I was soaked with gas I took it to a shop and here it was the gas sensor it was reading empty when actually it was full they had to take the tank down and put in a sensor 5 hours of work I had cars that were 20 years old or older and they never did this Hyundai need's to recall this year because I see this is a common problem with 2007 Santa Fe.

15 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/24/2015

On the way to take my children to school my fuel light came on. I thought this was odd as I had a half a tank of gas when I parked it in the garage for the night. I went to the gas station filled up the gas tank (it only tool $13. 00 to fill up) even though I knew I wasn't empty. Well the very next morning again my gas light was on saying it's empty. My check engine light was never been on during this.

16 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2015

Tl- the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated the air bag light, the electric stability control (esc) light and the egr light illuminated steadily on the dash, when the vehicle was turned on. The contact also stated that the gas gauge showed empty even when the tank was full. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer who stated that the failures were not recall related. The manufacturer was notified of the failures but restated the position of the dealer, offering no help. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 131,000. Fe.

17 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2015

All of the sudden my gas guage started to fluctuate in its readings. I noticed one day my gas light was on--stating my gas tank was empty and I know I had gas in the tank. I ended up going to the gas station and filled the tank. My guage read full for a day then my gas light went on (empty). As I drove the car I noticed the gas guage slowly rise to the correct reading of "full". The fluctuation in the readings are constant. This is very frustrating and concerning to me, as I drive children around and cannot rely on my gas guage to give me an accurate reading. I am constantly going to the gas station just to make sure that I do have gas. This issue caused my engine light to come on and as a result cannot pass emissions until I get this fixed.

18 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2015

Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai sante fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 mph the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle did restart, however, there was the smell of fuel inside the vehicles cabin. The contact stated that the smell increased when the air conditioning was turned on. The failure recurred on several occasions. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed that the fuel tank had fractured and was leaking. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that the VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 06v317000 (fuel system, gasoline). The approximate failure mileage was 100,000. Sw.

19 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

This issue caused my engine light to come on. If I run out of gas on the freeway, or off in the desert here, it could be fatal.

20 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2015

Fuel sensor/gauge shows empty and check engine light stays on. This is intermittent so gauge goes up and down. Can never tell how much fuel is in tank so you will run out of gas. A lot of others have had the same problem with same vehicle and year. This is a safety issue if you run out of gas on the interstate. Thank you for any help.

21 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2015

My gas gauge started malfunctioning earlier in 2015, then it totally went out by may of 2015. Now, it works when it wants to, but it's never really right. My trip gauge doesn't work either. Thanks to this issue, I failed my smog test, they said that my gas tank sensors need to be replaced. I got an estimate of nearly $1000 to complete this procedure that lots of other owners have had problems with. Why isn't this a repair covered by Hyundai? do you build your products to last long enough to make it through your warranty period? I've never had to replace this with previous vehicles.

22 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/27/2015

Check engine light came on. At the same time, I noted wild fluctuations in fuel gage readout. Also, when selected, the "range" ran from 0 up to 99 miles. Reading your webpage leads me to believe this is a real problem on the 2007 Santa Fe. My only option is to continually top off the gas tank to insure the vehicle is fueled. There is no way to determine actual fuel left in tank. I believe this to be a serious safety hazard, as running out of fuel without warning at 65 mph in traffic will not only slow the vehicle, but kill power steering and power brakes. Issue must be addressed through recall. It is totally unfair to expect consumers to foot the bill for an estimated 700 dollar fix.

23 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/15/2015

The floats and sensor system in the fuel tank quit working in 2015. The gas gauge registers as empty even when the tank is mostly full. This is a common defect with this model Santa Fe, and the repair costs close to $1,000. I believe it presents a safety hazard, in that the vehicle could run out of fuel on a highway or a bridge. Hyundai should issue a recall or agree to fix this serious safety issue without cost to the owners.

24 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

Check engine light came on when starting. Fuel level sensor dropped to empty even though tank was recently filled. Fuel level indicator would rise and fall and give false readings. Diagnostic of check engine light showed p0464: fuel level sensor "a" circuit intermittent. P0463: fuel level sensor "a" circuit high. P2069: fuel level sensor "b" circuit high. Cost to repair close to $900.

25 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2015

The car, at 75,000 miles is now showing an low fuel indicator light, 0 remaining on gas gauge although I have a full tank of gas. Check engine light is also illuminated. Because I am unable to know how much gas is in my tank this is a safety issue.

26 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 01/06/2015

This is our 3rd Hyundai Santa Fe. Our 1st was an 2006 model, with which we had no problems. Our 2nd was totaled because of another drivers fault. We were forced to avoid her pulling into our lane- head on and went off the road hitting some pine bushes and a telephone guide wire. We were doing 45mph at the time we left the road and hot the bushes. No airbags deployed, but the vehicle was considered totaled by the adjuster. So we replaced the car with another 2007 Santa Fe limited and at first all was good. Now the fuel sending units are not working. In the fuel system the gas tanks(2) are considered saddlebacks and are located under the rear seat. The obd errors codes state that neither unit is working and it is now costing us an additional $525 - as it failed the massachusetts state emissions test. Hyundai is aware that this is an issue and is not being told to fix it. Consumers deserve better.

27 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/01/2014

Gas tank shows empty although full. A few minutes searching on the internet shows this is a known and common problem across the Hyundai Santa Fe line for years. The issue is that the fuel level sensors are made to fail prematurely, requiring replacement of both the sender components.

28 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2014

The fuel gauge began to fluctuate inaccurately, finally indicating the tank is empty and empty light in on. The engine light came on and stays on as well. A couple of different mechanics estimated it will cost between $700 and $1,100 dollars to track down and repair the problem. My inspection will be out of date soon and have noticed through research that there are several hundred cases and complaints concerning this issue with 2007, Hyundai, sante fe and other Hyundai vehicles. Why is there not a forced recall for the manufacturer to repair this design flaw for these cars? does someone have to lose their life for this issue to get repaired?.

29 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 10/22/2014

Check engine light came on that night while driving, noticed when I pulled into my drive 1/4 tank of gas left in tank. Got into my car the next morning, check engine light still on and the low gas light and indicator was below empty. Filled up at the gas station but only took 10 gallons. Two days later same issue but as I was waiting for gas the indicator went up passed 1/4 full. Something seems wrong with gas gauge sensor. I have looked and see numerous problems with this. Lets get a recall !!!!.

30 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2014

The gas gage jumps all around. I can fill the tank up and then it will say empty. Don't ever know how much gas is in the car ever. I called the dealer that I bought the car at and they gave me the run around about getting it fixed. I have to put gas in the car every other day due to the gas gage not working properly.

31 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

In August 2013, the gas gauge on my 2007 Santa Fe started acting strange. (61000 miles on the vehicle). When I would fill up the gas tank, the low fuel light would come on and the fuel gauge would show empty. After driving about 50 miles, the low fuel light would go out but then the check engine light would come on and the fuel gauge would show partially full. This went on for about a month and then my Santa Fe was due for its annual pennsylvania state inspection. I took it to my local mechanic who said it wouldn’t pass the inspection with the check engine light on and the codes showed the fuel gauge sensors were bad. Both fuel gauge sensors were replaced by my local mechanic (not Hyundai) for about $290. I've read many complaints about this issue but have seen no recall from Hyundai.

32 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/19/2014

I have owned my Santa Fe since 2011 with no issues & I have always done routine maintenance. I came home from work with half a tank of gas- got back in my vehicle approximately 1 hour later and my fuel gage read that I was on e, light was on, and my trip meter read 35 miles remaining with the gas I had. I refueled that day, putting 20 dollars of gas and it filled it almost up. My gas tank requires $40-$50 to completely fill so we knew something was wrong. My husband, being a mechanic, checked to make sure I didn't have any leaks or holes in my gas tank that could be causing the issue. 4 days later I arrive at work with half a tank of gas. When I leave 3 hours later my fuel gage again says I am on e, light is on, and I only have 30-40 miles left with the gas I have. I shut the car off about ten minutes later and turn it back on and the fuel gage is back to half a tank.

33 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2014

Was at dealer having warranty work done on crank pulley that flew off of front of car. When I picked up car noticed gas gauge was erratic bouncing up and down between full and empty. Told service manger and he said may be fuel sending unit if it does not stop bring it back. Week later check engine lite came on and gas gauge went to empty. Now I here I have to replace two sending units in tank and its not under warranty. Would like so help with this problem.

34 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2014

While driving my Hyundai sante fe 2007 I noticed the check engine light came on. . . I noticed the miles at little over 95000 so I thought it just needed service. Then the gas gauge light came on indicating I have no gas and was empty which I knew is impossible since I had filled up a day prior and had not done much driving. The check engine light then went off about a 2-4 miles later. I went to the gas station and filled up and the light went away. . . But will always come on or after half tank of gas. I took the car to the dealer for service and they indicated its the fuel senders. They indicated no warranty on my car since it has passed the 5 year 60,000 miles warranty and the cost would be paid by me to fix. I inquired if this was a systematic problem with this vehicle and the service rep indicated he has seen a few on this vehicle, however no recall made. Im complaining since I have viewed this to be an issue with this model car online and should be corrected by the company at no cost to the consumer.

35 Other Fuel System Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/13/2014

Gas gage has stopped working. It will occasionally register, but not often. Mechanic checked it. . . Says issue with float in fuel tanks . . . Says Hyundai is aware but no recall yet. . . He personally had repaired 3 in a 2 week time frame!! it has been recalled on new vehicles but not this year / model. Cost to repair is approx. $600!! I have to constantly monitor my mileage, trip odometer so that I do not run out of gas. I have to manually calculate mileage. . Even if it does register, it is not accurate and fluctuates freely. Very frustrating. It also affects the check engine light. . . . . . . Which requires me to have to stop by my mechanic often for him to run the computer to be sure I am not doing any damage. Hyundai really needs to address and recall this for repairs.
