1 Assist problem of the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 03/10/2026

"take a break" - the feature prompts the driver to “take a break” with that text and a‘coffee cup” logo after a certain period of continuous driving. There are instances when turning it off is necessary and Hyundai has removed that option - high distracting false alarm rate. The alert, visual and auditory are intrusive, unnecessary, demonstrate a high false alarm rate leading to frustration and distraction. While designed as a safety feature, it has the opposite effect. The system inaccurately interprets the driver’s behavior as signs of fatigue with alerts popping up at an alarming rate. Perfectly normal and safe driving behaviors see the alert popping up again and again. Further there are environmental interferences - bright sunlight, reflections off glasses, bumpy roads requiring frequent corrections - system interprets these as driver inattention and cannot tell the difference between drowsy driving and navigating a poorly maintained highway. New Hyundai models do not allow the driver to disable the take a break alert. “you’re cruising down the highway, minding your own business, alert and focused, when your Hyundai flashes a coffee cup icon and tells you to take a break. Again - this for the third or fourth time in 20 minutes. You’re not tired, not swerving, and frankly, you’re getting annoyed”. The system is disruptive and unsafe as it disrupts the driver activating when the system detects inattentive driving, suggesting breaks even if the driver does not feel fatigued. The alert can illuminate even during short drives of less than 30 minutes. The alert can occur extremely frequently, especially during long drives, which is extremely annoying. The warning can appear shortly after starting a trip and may repeat every few minutes, which is extremely frustrating. It is far more disruptive than safe and helpful.

2 Assist problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/13/2026

Incident description: I am reporting a recurring and dangerous safety defect involving the adas (advanced driver assistance systems) on my 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe hybrid. On multiple occasions, the vehicle has exhibited uncommanded steering input. Even when the lane keeping assist (lka) system is manually disabled by the driver, the vehicle software overrides this command and re-activates the system without driver input, causing unpredictable steering behavior. System failures & error codes: the vehicle intermittently displays a "check forward attention warning system" failure. Dealership diagnostics have confirmed the following historical fault codes related to module communication: •c164286, c168886, c16b902, c28b981 related safety recalls: this vehicle is currently subject to recall 265 (NHTSA 24v561000) for main floor wiring harness chafing and recall 288 (NHTSA 25v808000) for rearview camera wiring tension. I believe the uncommanded steering and camera failures are direct results of the electrical interference or harness damage described in these active safety recalls. Safety risk: the uncommanded steering override creates an immediate risk of a crash, especially in high-speed highway conditions where the vehicle may unexpectedly pull against the driver's intent.

3 Assist problem of the 2024 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/05/2026

When using lane following the system repeatedly warns you to pay attention, usually when in heavy traffic and after repeated warning shuts of the cruise and lane following system. When using the cruise control system the system will suggest you take a break. Both problems appear to be associated with an in cabin camera. I have driven my vehicle almost 25,000 miles and taken two cross country trips. The warning system has almost never warned me of a real problem. 99 percent of the time it is a false reading by the camera and occurs under challenging driving conditions when the last thing you need it to be told to pay attention when you truly are. During this winter I have driven more at night and the vehicle is basically un drivable because of false notifications. This has repeatedly happened in the 14 months I have owned the vehicle - the date below is just for when it happened today. I am more than willing to share details and would welcome a call.

4 Assist problem of the 2026 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 02/02/2026

The vehicle has a feature that puts a message on the dashboard that reads “consider taking a break “ that is not able to be adjusted by the consumer or the dealer. This message can come up repeatedly and has an audio portion that overrides the audio in the vehicle. Weather conditions, back roads, and unmarked lanes of traffic will trigger this message and without the ability to adjust the sensitivity or the ability to turn it off, it is a very dangerous situation. I have had it go off multiple times in a drive when there is a strong side wind and the vehicle is being pushed around and it can be very, very difficult to safely drive when this is visually and auditory messages keep coming up on the dash without any option to adjust it. On back roads or in situations where there is snow covered roads, this message can be nonstop and go off 50 times or more in a 90 mile drive. It is the worst thing about this vehicle and it’s not reasonable for the vehicle not to have the ability to adjust the feature? I’d ask that an investigation be opened to look into this and demand that Hyundai update the vehicle software to allow the settings for this message to be adjustable. When looking on the internet for this problem, there are 100s of not 1000s of people that have been searching and complaining about this message on the new kia and Hyundai vehicles. Thank you.

5 Assist problem of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/02/2025

The driver assistance warning system continuosly goes into shutdown mode. Eye monitoring system always states that you are not keeping your eyes on the road. I have tried using different glasses or no glasses. Changing the steering wheel settings also seem to have no effect. This is very dangerous as it will start decelerating and stopping in the middle of a freeway in heavy traffic when this warning is activated. This only happens with the lane keeping assistance and adaptive cruise control are on. Hyundai issued technical service bulletin 25-gi-001h, but they did not solve the problem.

7 Assist problem of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 06/05/2025

The “consider taking a break” warning comes on far too much and has almost made me wreck twice due to being startled.

8 Assist problem of the 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/30/2025

Consistently after 10-20 minutes of driving with steering assist or immediately upon driving on cold days (under 50f), the steering wheel generates loud squeaking noises with the steering wheel stiffening and becoming harder to turn, creating a potential safety issue. The change is gradual but required a full stop of the car, shutdown, and restart to remedy. This issue has persisted for months and other Hyundai owners have shared the issue on various forums with Hyundai’s solution to replace the full steering column in some instances. Many owners seem to not be able to get help as dealers are not able to easily replicate this issue without lengthy drives.

9 Assist problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/28/2025

The steering wheeled locked up and the dash showed error messages of check hybrid system and refill inverter coolant and car seemed to go into limp mode as I could barely accelerate forcing me to pull over. The messages and issue would go away upon turning off car and turning it back on, however the issue would eventually happen again. This has happened while driving on the highway and other various road situations without warning and making the vehicle very unsafe. I have taken my vehicle to Hyundai ourisman in bowie, maryland (the dealership where I purchased the vehicle) three times over two years and they have failed to fix the problem. They have even replaced the battery in the car.

10 Assist problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/02/2025

Driving along, merging onto interstate, various warnings such as check lane keeping assist, and warnings to stop vehicle and check brake systems. Driving approximately 50mph, the warning started to flash and speedometer dropped to zero then went back to full speed. Automatic braking was attempting to slow the car. Attached photo shows an indicated speed of 0mph, however was travelling approximately 50mph at this time. I also have video of the errors occurring, but there is not a way to upload video.

11 Assist problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/17/2024

The forward collision assist would intermittently disable during driving. The lane keeping assist light illuminated and would not allow me to disable it causing the vehicle to drive straight only and to make left or right turns extremely hard to turn the vehicle. This incident occurred on [xxx] and was dropped off at johnson Hyundai in wake forest on that date. After a week of no contact of a diagnosis, I had to visit the dealer and was told the steering column was the issue and needed to be replaced. I contacted Hyundai America to report this issue and currently waiting on a response from their warranty to see if they will cover all or a percentage of the replacement of the steering column since my mileage is over their 100k (113k to be exact) coverage. While I appreciate their efforts, I also feel this could have resulted in a very serious incident had my daughter been driving on the highway when this occurred. Thankfully, she was picking me from home and it happened as we drove off from our house in our neighborhood. A steering column should outlast any other part(s) of a vehicle. If not, this is a huge safety concern. My [xxx] was also in the car at the time and I cannot even imagine how I would recover if something worse were to happen while he's on board. Hopefully this reporting will keep something bad from happening to others who own this type of vehicle but failed to report it. Thank you for your time. 12 Assist problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 09/01/2024

Currently have 518 diagnostic history codes (dtc)in memory. Additionally, I have 3 active dtc’s. The codes are: dtc c160c87 dtc system chassis dtc sub system lkas, and dtc c160c87 dtc system chassis dtc sub system scc, and dtc c163881 dtc system chassis dtc sub system scc first occurrence: during actual assembly in montgomery, al plant. I have asked three Hyundai service dealers for help. All have tried. Noting noted that contributes to the issues above. At first, my dealer replaced the front camera. Was told it was a heating issue. I have contacted Hyundai bluelink service for help. An information report was filed, twice. The first report I received feedback that Hyundai’s engineers had corrected the issue. On the following day, the codes returned. A second concern was filed with Hyundai bluelink. Hyundai motor America case#: [xxx] to wit: “thank you for contacting Hyundai motor America. We are in receipt of your e-mail and one of our representatives will get back to you shortly. Sincerely, Hyundai motor America” is my vehicle going to fail and cause me injury while operating it on an interstate highway? this is quite concerning as I drive my car. All I want from Hyundai is to get this issue repaired. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

13 Assist problem of the 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/03/2024

I've been driving in arizona on southbound 101 just south of w guadalupe rd and noticed an issue that is very odd. I have a 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe that has highway driving assist that does both speed control and distance from the vehicle ahead of me and lane keeping assist. After I pass guadalupe, but before an overpass for the sun cir trail, my vehicle, if those systems are on, goes haywire and all those safety systems turn off. I have experienced it on at least 3 of the lanes on that stretch. It happens both early in the am and later regardless of sun. It doesn't happen on northbound. As more cars have these features, this interference should be looked in to. I have not experienced this on any other of our highways. Here's a link to the the rough location. Https://maps. App. Goo. 14 Assist problem of the 2019 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 04/21/2024

I had a serious issue with the Santa Fe lane keeper system. I was driving on i15 in a winding portion through the virgin river gorge in relatively high traffic on a corner. I have used this feature many times in the past and expected a gentle nudge on the steering wheel. But unexpectedly the steering wheel turned hard left, almost causing a total loss of control. I am safe driver always checking for other drivers doing what they shouldn't, but I never expected my car to be the one making dangerous movements. If I hadn't had a firm grip on the wheel, I would have been out of control on a narrow bridge in heavy traffic. Am I the only one with this problem?.

15 Assist problem of the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/07/2023

I brought the 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe on may 10, 2022. On January 7, 2023 I was driving down the highway when the Hyundai shut down. No warning lights or nothing just stoped. We could not get it started no matter what we did. My son in law checked it out and found out it was the engine. Talked to the dealer and found out there was a recall for an engine in 2018. That was never taken care of. We never knew about the recall until after my Hyundai had trouble. Took it to the Hyundai dealer is des moines February 10, 2023 and they said there was 3 recalls that was not done . But they now said it is too late for the recalls . So what we need to know is are we going to get the recalls done or just forget about fixing the Hyundai. I seen where engines or motors was forever insuranced on Hyundais. Are they yet. ?? please let me know as soon as you can if the recalls will be honored by email. And if so where could I take my Hyundai to get fixed as I do not trust stew hanson. Either waterloo, IA or mankato, mn. Thank you judith eisenbacher 400 w. Overmeyer drive algona, iowa 50511 eisenbacher41@gmail. Com.

16 Assist problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 11/22/2022

When lane follow assist(lfa) is engaged, the vehicle is expected to steer itself following lane markings. In freeways. Even when engaged, at certain times, the vehicle disengages this feature possibly to due to failure to detect lanes or due to any other issues. This disengagement happens without any audible notice to the driver. All that happens is a very small icon in the console turning white from green. This can be easily missed as it can be easily hidden behind the steering wheel. Moreover, it's not safe to keep looking into the console when the driver is supposed to watch the road ahead. As heard, this issue is present in many Hyundai vehicles. An audible warning and bigger icon notification are most important for these safety critical situations. A driver may never know that the lfa is disengaged and probably can be in a collision before the driver realizes it. This is an important safety issue.

17 Assist problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 07/24/2022

Car's power steering has suddenly stopped working twice while I was driving. -- first time occurred on 7/24/2022. I was driving approximately 30 mph at the time. I was able to retain control of car and safely park. When steering stopped working, steering light illuminated red. I also got warnings about lane-keeping assist and blind spot detection features. According to Hyundai customer portal, car recorded the following dtcs (diagnostic trouble codes): -- * c168886 (system: chassis; sub-system: lkas) * c240162 (system: chassis; sub-system: eps) -- after I turned car off and back on twice, warnings cleared and power steering started working again. -- I had car transported to nearest dealership. -- dealership's service department investigated and indicated the following: -- scanned system for codes found history codes c240162 motor ciruit c16886 mdps c168881 mdps signal c168808 mdps signal history. -- their corrective action was as follows: -- checked ground connection for mdps. Good. Found loose connection at driver's left foot kick panel loose. Cleared codes and test drove vehicle 3 miles operating normally -- however, when I picked up car on 7/29/2022, immediately after exiting dealership's parking lot (while driving at low speed), power steering suddenly stopped working a second time. There were similar warnings (probably about lane-keeping assist and blind spot detection features again), but Hyundai customer portal shows no dtcs this time. -- I returned car to dealership's service department for them to investigate further. -- sidebar: a coolant line in car's engine compartment was replaced in June 2022 due to rodent damage. When dealership was first looking at this steering issue, I reminded them of that occurrence and requested that they consider possible rodent damage to electrical system as a cause of the steering issue. They did not notice any such damage.

18 Assist problem of the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 01/27/2022

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? warnings appeared on the instrument panel at the same time the power steering would go out and I would not be able to safely steer the car. This happened on 4-5 occasions. These are the various warnings that would appear: check lane following assist system check blind spot safety system check driver attention warning system how was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? not being able to steer was very concerned and happened to me while driving on a busy highway at one point. I could barely steer the car well enough to get it to the shoulder. I had to cross 4 lanes of traffic during rush hour. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? I had it towed to the dealer the final time it happened. They stated that it is a problem with the power steering module has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? crossroads Hyundai of loveland inspected the vehicle were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? no, not until the moment the issue occurred. The strangest part of the issue is that after I would pull over and stop the vehicle, I would clean the sensors on outside of the car and on then restart the car and then sometimes it would work again. It seemed to happen on days that there was poor weather or messy roads that would impede the sensors' abilities.

19 Assist problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 05/28/2021

Back up camera glitches. Causes driver assist to take control at times when not necessary. Have has this in for service at least 4 times since purchasing vehicle in 2020. Service states repaired each time bit eventually happens again. This last time is getting more severe cause multiple electrical short in overhead lights, panoramic roof failure to close at times and rear hatch sometimes only partially opens. I saw recent recall for 2021 and 2022 Santa Fe's, I believe this problem is what is happening with my 2020 Santa Fe and the scope of the recall should be expanded.

20 Assist problem of the 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe

Failure Date: 10/27/2020

Hyundai 2020 Santa Fe limited blind spot collision-avoidance assist (bca) system when set in active mode and under these conditions its activation is extremely dangerous: in three (3) or more lanes of traffic. In neither of the outer lanes. Passing a truck in the lane on the immediate right. Vehicle(s) in the lane on the immediate left. Vehicle(s) in the lane on the immediate right. At speeds of 50 70+ mph. When the Santa Fe approaches the front end of the truck, the bow wave of air from the truck pushes the Santa Fe towards the left lane line activating the bca, which violently jerks the Santa Fe to the right. When this occurs and the Santa Fe is moved violently toward the right line lane, the bsa detects the truck (or other vehicles) in the right hand lane, and violently jerks the Santa Fe toward the left hand lane. Upon doing so the Santa Fe bsa again detects vehicles in the left hand lane and again immediately jerks the Santa Fe toward the right hand lane. This action continually occurs until the driver forcibly regains control of the steering wheel, and/or depresses the brake. This repeated violent jerking the Santa Fe back and forth across the lane it's in has very nearly caused an accident in at least two (2) occasions (oct 27 & 28, 2020) until we found that the bca could be deactivated and set to warning only. This violent action of the bca should be removed from the Santa Fe vehicle to prevent accidents.
