Dear NHTSA team, my car was in a minor accident last. After that, the repair shop replaced my bumper and front camera. Don franklin somerset Hyundai performed a calibration on my new radar. They calibrated it six times, but there are still many issues with the hda driving system. 1. False dual-side warning when a vehicle is present only on the right side, the vehicle camera system incorrectly detects vehicles on both the left and right sides. In reality, there is no vehicle on the left side. In this scenario, both the radar warning and the camera detection are incorrect. 2. Wrong-side warning in some cases, when a vehicle approaches from the left rear, no warning is issued on the left side, while a warning is incorrectly displayed on the right side. In this scenario, both the radar warning and the camera detection are incorrect. 3. False warning during Smart driving while driving on the highway using the Smart driving function, when the vehicle is required to turn left or right, the system may generate a false dual-side warning. As a result, the vehicle aborts the intended left or right turn and continues driving in the center of the lane. In this scenario, both the radar warning and the camera detection are incorrect. 4. While driving manually (without hda engaged) or parking, the vehicle shows left-side or right-side collision warnings without clear cause. I reported these issues to Hyundai USA approximately three weeks ago. I was instructed to bring the vehicle to the dealership for inspection. However, during my recent visit, the dealership representative only reviewed the videos I provided and concluded that no issues were present, without conducting a physical inspection or test drive of the vehicle. Given the ongoing safety concerns and lack of proper diagnosis or resolution, I am submitting this complaint for your review and assistance. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Thanks, best regards, [xxx] [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5.
*problem parts:I only could check 1 box- should be brakes and steering too *adas: lane keeping assistance too over the course of two days, my 2020 Hyundai Santa Fe experienced a serious electrical and safety system failure. It started with the blind spot monitoring lights flickering in the side mirrors and warnings for forward collision avoidance (disabled), abs, electronic stability control, downhill brake control, parking brake & brake fluid (blinking red). The rearview camera failed and the screen remained on the radio display when in reverse. The lane keeping assist indicator shifted from white/green to orange. The next morning, I had trouble opening the vehicle with the key fob. Auto hold, master warning, forward collision, esc, and downhill brake control lights were now steadily on. The mph numbers on the dash were blurred, and a message appeared saying “put in p” even though the vehicle was already parked. The accessories light came on, but the engine would not start. Interior lights continued to work. I had to manually open the car and start it by pressing the fob to the button. While trying to exit a parking garage (where a tow truck couldn’t reach me), more warnings appeared: awd, low tire pressure, malfunction indicator (not engine), and power steering. I felt tightness in the wheel and had to pull over. The temp and gas gauges dropped to zero along with the rpms. I have a newer car battery and recently replaced fob batteries, so this was not a simple battery failure. I’ve reported the issue to Hyundai consumer affairs. No recall appears under my VIN, despite similar failures being widely reported in this model. I’m a single parent who typically drives with two young children, including one with serious medical needs. I rely heavily on this vehicle for medical travel. The vehicle has since been towed to a Hyundai dealership for diagnostics. This is a serious safety concern and could have led to a loss of control or failure in an emergency situation.

On April 28, 2025 my car cut off in the middle of traffic. I turned the car completely off. I was able to turn it back on and move it out of traffic. I called my mechanic and he looked at it, he checked the oil and there was oil I'm it. He drove it around a parking lot and heard a rattling noise, he tried to get it to his shop, the rattling got louder and louder, he was scared the engine would lock up, we parked it and had to have it towed to my residence. In the last 6-8 months I had to put oil in my car every week. I have taken to mi mechanic several times checking for leaks. I have been to the dealer checking to see if they there has been any recalls. Due to this situation I have no transportation. I am already financially struggling and now I have to figure out what to do I have already paid out of pocket for the abs to be replaced as well. My sun roof I cannot open due to the rollers r stop working. This has worst experience I have has with a brand new car, I previously owned a Hyundai and had a wonderful experience.

Between [xxx] am on [xxx]. I powered on my vehicle and the rear trunk door simultaneously opened. As I was driving my son to school that morning, I noticed water dripping onto my foot. I continued to drive but was distracted by beeping and warning messages but because the dashboard display was constantly switching from daytime to night lighting I could not readily see the dashboard. I tried to manually adjust the light by turning the knob off "auto" and also turning lights to "off" but it would immediately switch back. I made it to the first stop light and while stopped I was able to observe water droplets on the front panel of the interior fuse box. I pulled open the panel and water dropped out onto to floor. I replaced the panel. I continued to drive but was panicked and worried that water was in the fuse panel area. I arrived at my son's school and left the car running as he was dropped off. On the drive home, the beeping continued. This time, I saw the warning message about vehicle in my blind spot but I was on the street corner about to make a right turn and there was no vehicle next to me! the lights also kept switching as before. There was rust observed in the fuse panel area. When I got home, I called the dealership to inform them what happened. They refused to give me a loaner. I told them that water intrusion should not have occurred (we had severe weather and heavy rains the day prior) and now my car was having electrical issues and I was concerned for my safety and the safety of driving my 3 young children in car seats should there be an electrical fire. I mentioned the recall on my vehicle for water accumulation in the tow hitch and risk of electrical fire. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The brakes and rotors need to be replaced every 3-6 months. They have been fixed at least 4 times under warranty. Every time I take the car in I get asked if I drove through the mountains because they are fried. This vehicle has never been in the mountains because I fear what will happen if it really were driven through the mountains. However, no excessive braking occurs to cause them to be ruined every 3-6 months. I am at the point I’m curious if automatic braking is causing it to heat up and burn them. The incident below is the last time I had them replaced. I’m currently looking to sell the vehicle because of the number of times I’ve had to go in and get them replaced.
2017 Santa Fe, car had fire in 09/2024 and was with dealership until 05/2025. Bsd, abs, traction, and parking brake lights on the dash when vehicle was picked up. Dealership not complaint to pay as the assume it is an outside issue.
Three times this has happened. The instances occurred on highway 680 between pleasanton and san jose. I was going the speed limit - 65 miles per hour - as were tons of cars around me. Suddenly the car would brake, startling me because I was nowhere near another car. It frightened me a lot! I think it is the automatic braking system - either the front end collision warning or the blind spot collision warning. It could have easily resulted in an accident. I took it to the Hyundai dealership, and they knew they could not likely duplicate it. They showed me where to turn off the vehicle control (braking) for the front end collision warning and the blind spot collision warning. I have read on the internet several other parties that have experienced this - car-controlled braking while traveling at high speed with lots of cars around.
We were on our way home from the children's hospital in philadelphia for my daughter (4 hours away from home) and my 2015 Santa Fe with the 3. 3l motor began to knock. My dad (who is very mechanically inclined) pulled over at a gas station and checked oil and other fluids. It was low, even though I just had oil changed 900 miles before and it was checked before our trip to the hospital. We bought oil and put it in. Knocking was still there but was not as loud. We got back on interstate. Few miles up the road it completely lost power, extreme knocking, no lights on in the dash or any gauges out of normal range. He checked oil and it was completely empty but there was no oil trail or anything. We coasted into a crossover and that's when he saw the connecting rod under the car.

While driving the blind spot safety system, driver attention warning system, and lane following system malfunction at the same time, and the vehicle loses power steering. The first time this occured was in the parking lot of an elementary school in April 2024. I was driving less than 2mph and the vehicle had less than 8,000 miles on it. The dealer said they would be unable to diagnose unless they witnessed the errors. The second time it occured was in may 2024 while driving on the interstate at around 75mph. The vehicle was driven directly to the dealership who kept it for four weeks. They said the connections to the ecu were severely corroded, sanded them down, and added a water protectant. The third time it occured was a month later. The dealership has had the vehicle for two weeks with no diagnosis. Losing power steering suddenly while driving is incredibly dangerous, especially in a vehicle of this size and weight. It is difficult to control the vehicle without power steering, and in all cases there have been other vehicles/people in the area who could have been injured.
Vehicle does not detect motorcycles in the blind spot. I did not look over my shoulder and began moving left with a turn signal when I glimpsed a motorcycle next to my vehicle. The motorcycle quickly swerved to the left and I returned to the right lane.
Blind spot detection system failed without warning. No obvious indication it has failed. No warning lamps, messages appeared at any time. In operatioin, neither left nor right side provided warning of cars in blind spot and no audio alert was sounded when changing lanes with turn signal on and car in blind spot. (bsd failures - and any advanced safety system failure - should be readily made apparent with an alert or indication of some kind) this safety system can prevent many accidents. However, as more advanced systems are in automobiles and used, the drivers rely on them functioning properly. When they fail without indication - and the driver assumes it works, it can lead to accidents that might otherwise be avoided. If the driver is aware that the system is not working - extra vigilance, for instance, could be used. The car may be made available for inspection upon request. The problem will be reported to dealer on 10 October 2023 for analysis and repair. The car, as of this moment has not been inspected by others.

Beginning the evening of 8/21/2023, this 2023 Hyundai Santa Fe hev began displaying warning messages: "check blind spot safety system" and "check rear cross-traffic safety system. " simultaneously, the car would not register a "ready to drive" and could not be shifted into drive or reverse. The car could be shifted into neutral. After turning off and restarting the car several times, the warning messages did not recur, and the car could be shifted and driven normally. The problem recurred in the following days. It appeared that the issue was unrelated to cleaning the sensors but may have been related to the car being left in the sun. The car had to be towed to a dealer on 8/23. This dealer claimed to be unable to reproduce the problem. It is believed that the dealer kept the vehicle in a shaded garage during this time. After retrieving the vehicle from the first dealer, the problem recurred the following day, 9/2, again after having been parked in the sun on a warm day. The vehicle had to be towed to another dealer who was able to reproduce, but not diagnose, the issue. As of 9/18, the dealer states that they have identified a connector that appears to be causing the issue, but they say that they don't know what the connector does, because it does not appear in manufacturer wiring diagrams corresponding to the VIN. Because of the dealer's and manufacturer's inability to diagnose the issue, it is unclear if the issue actually implicates the operation of the blind spot and rear cross-traffic safety systems identified in warning messages. Hopefully it is possible for NHTSA to work with Hyundai to figure that out. The vehicle is with the dealer in chantilly, va and is available for inspection.
The systems forward collision and lane departure warning are randomly turned off. Dealership is not aware of how to fix.

I was driving on a road approaching a right turn to enter into my neighborhood that has a 3 way intersection where only cars exiting the neighborhood have a stop sign. I turned my right turn signal on as I began to slow down and approach the turn (without stopping as there is no stop sign for my path). As I was about 1/4 way into the turn, an alert for either lane keep assist or driver assistance warning appeared and the steering wheel suddenly could not turn and I was forced to drive straight. Luckily, there was no car waiting at the stop sign or I would have hit them. I hit the brakes and was on the wrong side of the road pointed towards the curb. I saw multiple error messages for lane keep assist and drivers assisted warning but could still not turn the wheel. I slowly drove the car forward, wrestling the wheel to turn enough so I could park on the wrong side of the road. I tried putting the car in park and then drive again but it did not help. I turned the car off and on and the errors cleared and I could turn the wheels again. I then proceeded to slowly start driving home and less than 1/4 mile later as I was rounding a gentle curve (I did not use any turn signals), the same error occurred and I suddenly could not turn the wheel so I slammed the brakes and stopped in the middle of the road. I again turned the car off and on to reset and proceeded to drive the remaining 1/4 mile home and park in my driveway. I immediately contacted the Hyundai dealer and was recommended to have the car towed to the local dealer as it was unsafe to drive. Upon towing the car to the closest dealer, I was able to back the car off the tow truck and park it. While parking, the steering locked up again and I took the attached pictures of the error messages and showed the technician. The dealers in the area all indicated they were so backed up they could not diagnose the car immediately. I called Hyundai to open a case. It has been 2 weeks and they still have not diagnosed the car.

When driving in the rain, the driver side (left) blind spot is not functional. When the right turn signal is used, the camera shows the right side of the car and the triangle on the right mirror lights up if there is vehicle in the blind spot. In the rain, the camera lens is as clear as when it is not raining. When the left turn signal is used, due to poor aerodynamics, there is a large drop of water on camera lens which prevents driver from seeing the blind spot on the left side. The large drop of water is displayed on the dash instead of the left side of the vehicle.
Adaptive cruise control automatic emergency braking blind spot warning forward collision warning lane departure warning lane keeping assistance parking collision warning rear cross traffic warning every one of these lights are going off in the car. I’ve taken it twice to the Hyundai dealership. Both times they have not been able to figure out what is wrong with it even with the opd it’s not showing any issues or fault codes a technician has even had the car for one week went through every single sensor, cable, battery, alternator fuses and didn’t come up with any results. He returned the car back to me completely baffled and unable to fix the issue. Please email at jdlalchan@gmail. Com for photos and video which I cannot add here on this website through mobile.
The contact owns a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the blind spot warning system light illuminated. The contact then stated that the blind spot detection system failed to alert him that another vehicle was nearby. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the driver’s side blind spot detection assembly and rear radar needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 92,836.
We are experiencing exactly what is listed in Hyundai TSB #21-be-005h: intermittent abnormal camera image display conditions on the instrument cluster when the turn left signal is turned on or the radio screen when transmission is in reverse.
Engine failed within 3 years of having the car so did transmission. Always having other issues with this vehicle. Recently the alternator now the blind spot warning system. This vehicle was purchased new and has had so many problems.
Blind spot system randomly fails to detect vehicle on right side, I have videos of failure. Dealer unable to find problem cause, contacted Hyundai customer service, waiting for response.
My Santa Fe has less than 14k miles. In many instances, the car has stalled when turning on. The engine would tremble and then shut the engine off while the dash lighting/symbols stay on. It will idle for a quick second and then drop to zero. Another instance is when driving into a parking spot and driveway and we applied the brakes. At that moment the engine shut off while the dash lights/radio and everything else stayed on. In all instances, if we apply the brake and then hit the start button, the car will typically turn on and act like nothing ever happened. In 2 instances, the blind side detection would turn off while driving and all the warning lights would come on the dash. After turning it off and letting it sit for a few minutes it would disappear. One time the front detection would go off and there was no car in front of me for about 8ft. The beeping continued after we drove off and it eventually reset itself and never happened again. I’ve notified the Hyundai dealer but they claim if they can’t recreate it then they can’t fix anything. My previous Santa Fe did the same thing and they had it for 2 weeks with no results. Although my blue link app showed the car was never moved from the parking spot which made me wonder if they even tried anything. I have videos of the Santa Fe stalling.

Took the car in for a recall and service engine soon light on February 4th. When I got almost home there were 4 more lights on. Rear wheel sensors, skid control, downhill and car approaching light. Made an appointment to get these fixed and I explained I had car shield and they said they accepted car shield. Today, may 5th when I took the car back (first appt. I could get) after I sat there for 1-1/2 hours they came back and told me more things were wrong and informed me at that time they no long use car shield. I'm done with Hyundai. They run you in circles and treat you like shit and the tech had the nerve to get mad at me.

While driving on the interstate, I noticed a tapping noise that sounded like a flap hitting the car. I needed gas, so got off at the next exit. While exiting the interstate, the noise got louder and the car didn't want to accelerate. I pulled into the gas station. As I entered the parking spot, the car died. (it had burned oil in the past. I have had an engine cam replaced in Aug/sept 2019). I checked the oil. No oil! so, I ran and bought 5 quarts of oil and put them in the engine. I started the car and it didn't want to idle, but finally did after a minute. I rolled down my window and the car noise was multiple clanging sounds. It was as loud as a bad muffler. I shut off the car and called my boyfriend. He said it sounded like my engine blew. I called mcgraths in hiawatha, iowa and had the car towed there. I am 6000 miles over my 100,000 mile warranty. I am told that Hyundai won't cover this issue. However, what happened to my car sounded exactly like the problem with the Hyundai 4 cylinder engine troubles that were recalled in 2018. Hyundai knew I was having engine issues in 2019, and would only replace the cam. I feel that my engine should be covered by Hyundai. Currently, my car is in the shop and I have no vehicle to drive. The dealership is going to ask Hyundai for a "good will" percentage to repair the vehicle. However, this is no guarantee. I am over the iowa lemon law limit for mileage and years. I feel that since there were engine issues with other engines Hyundai made, that they knew I was having the same issues and wouldn't repair it correctly. I need to have someone check into this. I don't know what else to do. I am prepared to get a lawyer. My vehicle was not recalled ever.

The blind spot detector starting randomly going off very sporadically since we had the car. Then one day it started going off almost every minute for about 7-8 minutes then an error message appeared and it stopped working all together. The car was in motion on the freeway.
There is a significant leap or jerk when it shifts from 1st to 2nd gear. Seems to happen when the car is cold. I have taken it to the local Hyundai dealership that claimed it didn't do it when they drove it. After picking it up from them, the car ran beautifully for about two weeks. They don't claim to have done anything but from I can find out about this problem is that they reset the computer but it doesn't fix anything. This is a safety hazard. The car jerks violently when starting off at a stop light and jerks violently when it comes to a stop as downshifts. I have been able to make it stop when I put it in park, turn off the engine and then turn it back on. Seems to reset the computer and it's ok for a week. I believe Hyundai does know about this problem with the Santa Fe and the elantra. They just have not come up with an updated software program that will fix this hazardous situation. The other problem is the blind side detection becomes disabled when it is raining making that a hazardous situation as well.
Oil consumption within 200 miles blind spot detection doesn't work.
Tl the contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe sport. The contact stated that the blind spot detection was faulty and would not function properly. The contact almost crashed into another vehicle when attempting to turn because the blind spot detection sensor did not sound when changing lanes. The vehicle was taken to fitzgerald gaithersburg Hyundai (905 n frederick Ave, gaithersburg, MD 20879, (301) 670-4800) where it was diagnosed that the radio needed to be repaired because the sensor was located in the radio. The dealer made minor repairs, but did not repair the sensor. The manufacturer was contacted and was working with the dealer to repair the vehicle. The failure mileage was 37,670.
