The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 131,000. Ck.
- engine had metal shavings in it which led to excessive amounts of oil consumption, it took the dealership almost a year to admit that the engine was going out -the brake light switch keeps going out, I have replaced my third switch in my 7 years of owning this car. -the taillight wiring harness warp the taillight housing for the brake lights due to excessive heat generated from the 2537 bulbs. In general, the wiring harness don't even last that long.
Brake lights stay on got a recall on it dealer says they fixed it and now want yo charge me over 200. 00 to fix it agin.
Recall code 136, brake lights stay on. This does not show up in my history of recalls for my Sonata. The vehicle rear brake lights will stay on after full release of the brake pedal. Brake lights may show off, car is then shut off. 2 minutes later, the car brake lights are on (not all the time, but frequent enough). This is a reoccurring event.
While in drive and park, brakes lights and tail lights keep going out. Have replaced bulbs 4 times in less than a year. Both seat belt lights constantly flashes even when buckled up. Air bags and tire pressure light will not go out after resetting repeatedly. Dome lights no longer work in automatic.
This issue has been going on for months now. And I have driven around seeing many other Hyundai Sonatas with he same issue. When I hit my brake, the brake lights will not go out. I have finally figured out how to get them to go out (pulling my brake upwards with my foot). This has resulted in my lights staying on and my car dying a few times. It is a very dangerous problem as others are not able to tell when I am braking because my brake lights stay on wihtout putting my foot under the brake and pulling up on it.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving various speeds, the rear brake lights remained illuminated. There were no warning indicators illuminated. An unknown local dealer diagnosed that the rear brake pads needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 87,000.
Takata recall: 17v152000 driver seatbelt, 10v457000/10v426000 steering gear, 18v137000 airbags, 10v070000 latches/locks, 13v113000 exterior lighting, 15v568000 engine, 15v629000 suspension, 14v434000 power train,15v759000 brake light,16v190000 steering elec. Power, 14v433000 service brakes.
My vehicles brake lights continue to have electrical problems. Sometimes the brake light works, and sometimes it doesn't.
The engine has seized. The brake lights were always on and it melted the harness the holds the bulb in the receptacle area. I cannot place the bulb in the seating for it anymore and then successfully place in the area for it. The area just beneath the glove box began emitting smoke and I smelled rubber melting. The language of the car is in spanish cannot be changed back to english. The buttons don't control what they are intended to. The center instrument panel, radio, a/c and the other functions occasionally are not operable, no light nothing.
Tl - the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving at various speeds, he noticed that the brake indicators had failed when she pressed on the brake. The vehicle was taken to modern Hyundai of concord (965 concord pkwy s, concord, nc 28027. 704-262-4408) who diagnosed the vehicle and stated that the rear brake lights had fractured and the vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 135,448. Jc.
My brake lights all of a sudden went out, my shift lock locks everytime I put my car in park I have to use something to press the button to unlock my gear shift. Got it checked and it turned out to be the brake light switch.
My brake lights remained illuminated when I was not pressing the brake. I discovered this after they stayed on even while the car was off and parked, and drained the battery so the car would not start. The mechanic replaced the brake light switch and rubber stopper pad.
The brake lights stays on as if pressure is being apply to them. Car be at 60 plus miles per hours and the car comes to a slow stop while I'm applying pressure to the gas; having other drivers almost to hit me in the back.
Takata recall - in 2016 there was a recall for the brake light switch to be fixed on my car. They said that they fixed it but now I am having the same issues as my brake light switch is still malfunctioning. My brake light stays on the whole time when I am driving which I have had to replace the bulbs as they were blown and one of them had melted. As far as I can see, if this was properly repaired then none of this would have been happening. I have to constantly lift my brake pedal to turn them off before I get out of the car so that they will not be on. This happens while in motion and stationary.
Brake lights stay on, after you leave off brake pedal. Could result in serious rear end accident if person following you doesn't know when you really are applying brakes. This is believed to be the brake light stopper pad. I am a mechanic and the stopper pad is crumbling. Per dealer it was replaced 1/2016 at 70000 mile now 2years later and 14000 mile later it is bad again. This problem could impact all 2011 and other year models. Rick ecker 5617230363.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while stationary, the brake lights malfunctioned. The contact stated that while in park and/or reverse when the rear brakes were depressed they failed to illuminate. The contact stated that the failure was intermittent. Had my 2 front tires changed, after they were charged the brake paddle locked up and the push button starter will not start the car and I have no brake lights. The only way to start the car is to press down on the brakes while pushing and holding the starter at the same time for about 60 seconds , the car will not move out of gear unless the shift release lock is pushed. I have no brake lights.
Defective brake switch stuck in on position caused the car slow down of its own accord in traffic. Car drove as if you had foot on brake and accelerator simultaneously. Brake lights stayed on after taking foot off brake pedal.
2011 Hyundai Sonata is very unsafe. I have had to have brake light recall fixed at least 3 times and the brake lights are still going out. The horn has completely gone out. The engine shuts off at random times leaving me stranded in unsafe situations. The takata airbags still have not been replaced. Car is very unsafe to drive; Hyundai needs to buy back all these vehicles.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the brake lights were constantly illuminated, even with the vehicle turned off. The vehicle was taken to volume Hyundai located 2520 n. Columbia street, milledgeville, GA 31061 to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the brake actuator located under the brake pedal failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v759000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 133,411.
To my knowledge the recalls listed are for my car. Some I was informed of and some I was not. Reference #'s: 16v190000, 15v759000, 15v62000,15v568000, 14v33000, 13v113000, 13v113000, 10v457000, 10v070000. Once I was fully aware I brought my car to the dealership near me. They said they fixed everything but I am still having the same issues. To date: I have had times when I do not have full control( or it just will not do what I want) of the steering wheel causing me to crash into things which has damaged the passenger side window and the rims ( thankfully so far nothing more serious)/my seatbelt broke while I was driving, just came off. My brake lights are a disaster they either stay on (which has drained my battery to the point I have had to replace it ) or they do not come on at all which has given me a few scary moments because I brake and the person behind me does not realize I am stopping. If I do not put the parking break on every time I park the car will roll even on a flat surface. I sometimes have issues with getting the car to stay locked as it will sometimes unlock itself multiple times in a row. The dealership charged me for some repairs related to these recalls though as I understand it they are to fix them at no charge. I have called the dealership multiple times and I am always told that the person I need to speak with is not there. They then take a message but to date no one has returned a single call. I have had other mechanics ( not working for Hyundai) look at the car as well as have other people drive my car ( they all confirm that they have issues such as above when driving as well) I would really appreciate any help you can give me with these issues. In regards to date below: multiple issues with multiple dates I listed around when I brought the car to the dealer. If you need to contact me : 703-626-5740. Sincerely, lisa ramsey.
Brake lights do not work when I cut on my lights.
Brake light wires run too hot while car is operating and causes bulbs to burn out a day or two after being replaced. Plastic seems to be melting and may be able to cause a fire. Brake lights go in and out while driving as well which may cause an accident.

The consumer stated there were loud noises coming from the vehicle and the steering wheel would shake, when the braking. Tl - the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the exterior lighting and the alarm system for the vehicle has malfunctioned. The right front headlight failed. The bottom rear break lights failed. The alarm system turns on and off at random times. The contact received notification for NHTSA campaign number: 15v759000 (service brakes, hydraulic) and the vehicle had experienced the consequence stated on the recall involving the brakes and brake lights. The contact stated that the vehicle had not been repaired and that the issue had spread to other lighting and electrical failures. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 73,000. Gl.
Tail light assembly is melting around the connector for the brake light bulb. The connector and bulb get so hot that surrounding plastic and connector plastic melt causing the brake light to fail and making replacement impossible. Hyundai replaced two melted brake light assemblies on the passenger side and one brake light assembly on the drivers side in less than 4 years. Now the driver side brake light assembly is melting again. This is a fire hazard and a safety hazard because the brake light stops working when the connector melts. Hyundai replaced two assemblies under warranty. I paid $250 for one brake light assembly and now Hyundai wants to charge me $250 for the fourth brake light assembly. This should be recalled by NHTSA. Googling the Hyundai 2011 brake like assembly list many other people with the same issue. This is a manufacturing defect that is causing a safety hazard for 2011 Hyundai drivers and other drivers that encounter cars with the failing brake light assembly.

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the brake warning light and the esc warning light kept randomly illuminating as the failure was progressing. The contact stated that the vehicle was constantly hesitating and at a rate of 45 mph while the vehicle was in motion there was a drastic reduction in speed. The vehicle was towed to the dealer twice and they were not able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The contact stated that the condition progressed and upon taking the vehicle back again they diagnosed that the stop lamp brake switch needed to be replaced. The contact was not included in NHTSA campaign id number: 13v113000 (exterior lighting , service brakes, hydraulic), 14v433000 (service brakes, hydraulic). The manufacturer was notified of the failure and provided no remedy. The approximate failure mileage was 50,800. Dyd.
An existing recall (NHTSA campaign number: 13v113000) indicates that for 2011 Hyundai Sonata the stop lamp switch may not function correctly. The recall notice states that: "during the affected models' production periods, some vehicles were equipped with stop lamp switch assemblies that may experience intermittent switch point contact. Potentially result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature,(wich is happening) intermittent ability to remove the vehicle's shifter from the park position( also happening), or intermittent operation of the stop lamps. (happening also)" all of these symptoms have been observed in my vehicle, yet the brake light swtich was replaced on a routine service for a recall in 2014. I was not experiencing any trouble at that time. Now at 65000 miles and less then one year later my brakes wont turn off when my car is off resulting in my battery to die. Hyundai has had to come jump my car three times. When I brought it in they said they already replaced it and are no longer liable for it. Now my car is stopping and not allowing me to accelerate intermittenly during driving the vehicle. I also smell burning rubber coming from the inside brake area near the switch. Secondly, my steering coulum and alignment were off. I brought the car in to Hyundai in 2014 because of the steering being very looose and making a knocking noise when you moved it back and forth. They said it was the coupling wich they reaplaced and it did not resolve the malfunction. They then replaced the steering rack and perfomed an alignment and tire rotation with new tires. The noise went away but the alignment is still terribly off. Now when I make right turns it makes a loud clicking noise again and shakes at 65mph or over. My warrenty ended at 60,000 miles and now nothing is covered. I paid for an extended warrenty at purchuse of which they have no record of.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that when the vehicle was off, the instrument panel illuminated. In addition, the contact stated that the rear brakes light illuminated. I parked my car and when I got out I notice my brake lights would not go off. I had to get back in the car pump the brakes a few times and they finally went out. The next day at work I didn't pay attention and when I got in my car for lunch the car would not start I had to get a jump and I drove to the dealership. I advised dealer of what happened they checked my battery and it was fine he says my brake switch light pad was bad and needed to replaced. This was supposedly fix in 2014 after the recall but this continues to be a problem and my dealership charged me for the repairs this time, per Hyundai they only fix this for free one time.
My car battery started dying on several occasions in March 2015. On March 20th, my car won't start again and the repair shop said the battery and starter had died completely and I had to replace it at a cost of $737. 79. After the repairs on April 13th, my car won't start again. I told the repair shop that I noticed the night before that my brakes light was not going off. Firestone towed the car at their expense and did the repair to the brakes light at no cost because I had already paid close to $738 trying to resolve this issue. They found the issue with 'stopper pad'. I then submitted a reimbursement request to Hyundai for campaign #136 but they only reimbursed me for $157 and refuses to refund the balance. My car on numerous occasions did not start. The issues with my car was the brake light staying in and killing my battery and affecting my car in general. When firestone billed me for the repairs they said should be done, the car continued to have issues until I noticed the brakes light was staying on. Firestone towed my car and repair the issue at their expense. If it was not related why would they repair my vehicle at their expose? I will file a complaint with national safety administration. This is totally unfair.
Went to lakeland automall which is a Hyundai dealership to get some recalls taken care of. Upon arrival I gave them some recall paperwork in which they refused to look at and said that they have it in their database. The recall that has to do with the "stop lamp switch malfunction" was not complete. When I got my car back I checked my brake lights and they did not work properly. I told them that when I drive in cruise control my car releases it and my brake lights stay illuminated and my esc control light comes on. Also on ocassion one of my tail brake lights work but not the other. They told me that they fixed this problem last April of 2014 but apparantly the same problem is replicating. They then told me it needed a whole tailight assembly.
