Car would not start took it to dealership they said alternator was bad had it took it to mechanic shop paid 300 alternator drove it to car wash car would not start again. Was told it has something to do with push to start and sensor in break pedal. Paid cash for the vehicle drove it from the individual I bought froms location to the store and it's left me stranded ever since. Dealership keeps diagnosing alternator, starter get online and read and there are complaints and even videos on you tube about this same issue but Hyundai refuses to fix it. Wish I had never throw my money down the drain now I'm just out of a car no way to work and don't know what I'm gonna do. Poured every last penny I have into it and it still will not start. Single mother of two children no financial help other than my work income which I may not have much longer if I'm unable to have transportation to get there. Thanks Hyundai what a way to treat customers who's put faith in your vehicles.

Acceleration problems car stop on me I got my car towed no codes or nothing showed up try to start car at shop smelled a burning smell needs new starter new starter repaired. Couple of days later I stop for a update entire engine gone will call Hyundai tomorrow I have two kids and this is horrible.
I drove my 2011 Hyundai Sonata on the highway, while trying to accelerate my vehicle to match the flow of traffic I noticed that the vehicle would not accelerate past 40 mph. I pulled my vehicle over to the break down lane and engaged hazard lights. I released the hood latch and opened hood to engine compartment. I saw smoke and could smell burning plastic. I checked my oil levels and did a quick inspection of fluid levels. When I tried to restart my car the vehicle would not start. I had the car towed to a mechanic, the mechanic stated that the starter was burned out. He replaced the starter and when attempting to start the car the new starter began to smoke as well. He stated that it was good that I pull the car over so quickly cause the car could have caught on fire. This happened recently and he has stated it will require further investigation but he is pretty sure the engine has seized.

Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 30 mph, the vehicle stalled without warning. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the starter needed to be replaced and there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure recurred. The vehicle was not included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine). The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 117,000.
This will be the second time in 18 months that my car has not started and needed to be towed to the dealership. They stated it was the electrical issues with the push starter. You should not have to replace a push starter/parts associated with it this many times in a vehicle, let alone 18 months apart. Cheap parts, expensive labor and a lemon of a car with 13 recalls and not even 100k miles on the car. I would like for Hyundai to look into this electrical issue and why this keeps happening, as I've seen other owners post about it.
I own a 2011 Hyundai Sonata se 2. 4 liter sedan which I purchased in March 2011. I have encountered no issues with engine stalling or hesitation. On Sunday, 05/07/17, without warning, the vehicle (mileage 57,880) would not start. The next day, the vehicle was towed from my driveway to the pearson Hyundai dealership for a $109 diagnostic inspection. Tuesday morning troy, the service technician, called to inform me that the car needed a starter. The cost for parts and labor would be $650/new or $250/rebuilt. I read numerous forums where consumers reference starter malfunction at low mileage. Clearly, there is an ongoing issue with the starter on this vehicle. The manufacturer should take responsibility and replace the starters at no cost to the consumer.
While driving in the city heading to the store the car just shuts right off and starts smoking I tried to restart it but still wouldn't start so I installed new battery tried to restart again ,but when I did I saw smoke come out from the engine again, the smoke smelled electrical so believe it was a bad (starter)part made out of plastic.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact experienced issues starting the vehicle. The vehicle was diagnosed as needing a new starter. The warning lights did not illuminate. The manufacturer was notified. The vehicle was not under warranty according to Hyundai. The vehicle was at the dealer and the part was not ordered. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was stopped in traffic, the engine stalled and all the warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was not able to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer where it was diagnosed that the alternator and starter failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle failed to start. The vehicle was taken to another dealer where it was diagnosed that the engine failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000. The VIN was not available.
Did some research and from what I've been reading my 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS 2. 4l is affected by the "starter lever" recall. I went to turn my car on the other day and it wouldn't turn on and just made a hissing sound as I turned the key. Went to the auto parts store to have my starter tested and it failed on the diagnostic right away. I need my started fixed and replaced so my car doesn't die on the freeway! had to turn my key and try start the car at least 10 times before it would crank over.
While driving 45mph I experience my steering wheel shaking and it leaves the vehicle hard to control and it pulls to the right. I then started to experience my car not starting after sitting for not even 5 minutes and this has been occurring for 2 days. I took my car to the local dealership and was advised that I needed to replace the starter lever and steering coupler. Both of these are common defects of this model and has been recalled in the past. I called Hyundai today and was told that I am now responsible for the cost of the repairs regardless of what happened in the past. The repairs are going to cost me a little over $600. 00 when the parts are plastic and wouldn't cost more than $20. 00. A complaint has been filed with the bbb as well. . . This is a major safety issue on this vehicle and the manufacture needs to do a better job at building these parts.
Car would not start. Towed. Starter lever failed. This is known issue as stated by tow driver, Hyundai rep, and hundreds of owners complaining of this exact issue on internet. Occurred just out of warranty.

On a couple of separate incidents, the gear disappear. I was driving on d, the gear was on d, but after several miles the gear disappear. I pulled over to park the car, I put the car on reverse, but the gear was not visible. I turned the car off and turned it back on, I could see the gear then. This has happened a couple of times. A couple of weeks after this happened, the car did not start at all. The car ended up starting after it was towed to the dealership. Apart from this issue I've been at the dealership for several other issues. Starter, axles, the key ignition switch, sensors, etc. It's been very time consuming and expensive.
Vehicle stopped functioning at 60 mph on an interstate on a Friday night. Had to coast to side of road dodging other cars. Tried to restart vehicle with no luck. Electrical started going haywire. Interior lights started flashing as well as dashboard lights. Smoke was coming from hood of car. Within 20 minutes a road ranger checked the status of the car and said all fluids looked good. Battery tested good. But was unable to get vehicle to start. Two hours later it was towed to a Hyundai dealership. Was told it appears to be the engine but was told they replaced the starter first because they thought it was that. Finally, told it was the engine and it would need to be replaced. Thankfully it is still under warranty. It's last service was the middle of April. They told me that the steering is possibly going on it. They reported a knocking noise. Nothing has been done to steering as of yet but now that they will have car for up to 3 weeks will probably have them check that too especially after reading many of the complaints on this and other websites.
Experienced issue with my Hyundai Sonata 2011 not starting and heard a clicking noise. Towed vehicle to local Hyundai dealership (where purchased). Service report on April 21,2015 indicated starter fork had failed. Cost of labor was $112. 50 and plastic fork $8. 13. Plus towing cost this is needs to be investigated for root cause and corrective actions. Per service department this was not covered under drivetrain warranty. This part should not be failing after only 77,213 miles. The long term reliability of this vehicle is a concern with rising and mounting labor cost. How long will this fork last? how did this part pass the Hyundai development and product validation automotive testing? or is this a manufacturing defect issue after release ? this is another known issue that is being reported by Sonata 2011 owners and not being addressed it is poor when the towing service person knew what the issue was. As he has towed several Sonatas with same issue.
Tl the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the key failed to turn in the ignition to start the vehicle, and it stalled several times without warning. The vehicle was taken to rick case Hyundai (3180 satellite boulevard NW, duluth, GA 30096, (678) 321-1584) for an unknown electrical system recall. The dealer stated that the recall repair was performed, but it failed to provide a permanent solution. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer on four occasions to have the starter replaced. The dealer indicated that the starter needed to be replaced a fifth time. The manufacturer stated that the vehicle was not included in a recall and suggested that the vehicle be repaired by the dealer again. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 25,000.
My car would have trouble starting, I would turn on the car but the engine wouldn't start, the lights and radio would turn on and nothing. After the starter being installed on 10/22/2014 the car was fine but then it happened again this year and had the starter replaced again. Then it happened later again and finally had the neutral safety start inhibitor switch replaced. My airbag light turns on and now I have to replace the clockspring. I have other issues with this car like for example my front drive axels being deformed which causes a rattling nose when I turn while driving. I would hear clicking noses on the steering column and had the steering coupling replaced. So far as of 8/12/2016 I have had 15 recalls and I have one to do next week. I'm driving a death trap.
Over the five years the car will stall in parking lot. Will have it towed to dealer. This happen two times this year. They could not find problem. Could not use battery to start, battery checked it was fine, starter fine, alternator fine. It made me feel uneasy if it stalled on road. They checked engine said it was fine. Not happy with this. The last at my kroger it stopped. Towed to repair shop near home same result, could not find problem. Each time when car sat overnight for repair the problem went away and car started ok by dealer.
Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact mentioned that the push button start failed to work and that the dealer replaced the starter once before the contact owned the vehicle and when the failure was experienced the the contact had the starter replaced by a repair shop but the failure continued. The push button start randomly failed to work. The vehicle was to be taken back to the repair shop for further inspection, diagnosis and repair. The contact was included in NHTSA campaign number: 15v568000 (engine) but has not received notification of the recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 51174. Parts distribution disconnect. Dyd.
In February 2014 we started having issues with the car not starting at all. We would put our foot on the break and press the button and it just sits there. I have been stranded at many locations until it decided to crank. I called rick case in roswell GA and was told to bring it in if it does it again. Now the next thing that started to happen was the transmission lights p, r, n and d would start flashing and go blank as we were driving then you could feel the car loose power. I was told by the dealership to pull over and restart the car so this went on for a bit until it finally quit starting and sat in the garage for the tow truck who had to use a screw driver and it slipped into r easily because it wont start. Went to the dealership they could not get it started and kept it for many days saying everything is fine we think the starter was going and we had bought an extended warranty and they told us it does not cover that so we had to come up with $552,77. I am not working now due to cushing disease so we are down to one car. My husband had to get rides to work daily. I also found it very odd that the manager made us sign a form stating we would not bring this car back with the same issue again. The car is still acting up so we are not sure what to do. We do like the car and would trade it in but we are upside down and the payments would be so much. We feel we do need to get our money back because I truly believe it was not the starter. Please advise on what to do with a car we are now scared to drive. My son is 16 and this would be his car but not know. Thank you they gave me case#6773211.
I bought a 2011 Hyundai Sonata in March of 2010 brand new. I have had problems with the tires had to be replaced after year two, and when they were being replaced they said that the air valve on the tire was corroded when I went to Hyundai to get the part replaced they said that it wasn't corroded it was broke off because there wan't a cap on it and it got wet. So, they said that I had to buy a new one, and they would send it up under the warranty and I would be refunded that did not happen. After that my push start would not start when I pushed it. I would have to push it about three times and then it would finally start. I took it to Hyundai, and had it replaced not under warranty any more is what they told me. So I paid the 287. 00 for it. After I got it home and went into grab something came back out and it did it again. Took it back to gateway Hyundai in richmond to have it fixed and they said it needed a nother starter. I didn't have to pay for the part but I was going to have to pay for the labor. Nope didn't get it fixed. I would just start it three times instead. Then I had to replace the brakes last year 2012 because it wore only on one side, and now the engine blew a rod. They claimed that it was because of not having enough oil in it, but then told me I had a quart to much of oil. Now really does that make any sense? this is absolutely ridiculous. Then they told me I could trade it in for a new Hyundai but would have to put $5000. 00 down on it which is convienantly the amount they quoted me to have my engine fixed because they said it wasn't under warranty because I hadn't kept all my receipts for oil changes for the past three years.
Vehicle engine was shut off in a construction zone, waiting for line to move. Engine (push button start) would not engage, thus causing major traffic issues. Everything done according to manual trying to get starter to engage. Engine starter finally engaged after setting for sometime. This is the third occurrence of this same problem. Suspect linkage between brake sensor and start button. Could be a serious safety issue.

2011 Hyundai Sonata se 16 days old, 2018 miles: car has an "intermittent starting problem". It has left my wife stranded at work 3 times, two of those times in a deserted parking lot after hours, once at the dealer when I was called to pick it up. It has now been out of service for 18. 5 days since April 26, 2010. It has been taken to the dealer four times since April 26, 2010 and remains there at this time. Dealer has confirmed battery is always at full charge, they have changed both starter system relays, replaced the starter, checked transmission neutral position sensors. Safety issue: leaving a female driver in an unsafe and unprotected situation. Due to the non starting issue.
