1 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2020

Late April noticed gas odor coming from car after turning it off. Hyundai website indicated recall for this issue - campaign 189. Contacted Hyundai to find out how to get fixed. This in part their response: our records indicate that your vehicle is not affected by campaign 189. Made appointment with regular ase-certified master technician. He identified the fuel leak and noted on invoice: active fuel leak present, above fuel tank, probable cracked fuel pump module. If so pump replacement estimate is $750 (Hyundai pump/seal, labor, tax). Fuel leak is a major safety issue, fire hazard, raw fuel just looking for an ignition source. I notified Hyundai of confirmed defect. This is in part their response: we are sorry to hear that you still have concerns regarding your 2013 Hyundai Sonata and that from the information you received from an independent repair facility. However, based upon the information you provided, we recommend you schedule an appointment with the service department of your local Hyundai dealership to have your 2013 Sonata inspected and diagnosed. As the attached repair order you sent in does not show that the diagnostics where from a Hyundai dealership. We apologize for the inconvenience, however, Hyundai customer care center is unable to diagnose over the phone or through email. Our dealerships are also the best-trained and most-qualified to service and maintain your Hyundai vehicle. Only authorized Hyundai dealerships can determine whether the repair in question would be covered by both warranty and/or campaigns offered by Hyundai that are VIN specific. Please note that effective immediately, Hyundai motor America will no longer consider any goodwill for any independent repair facility repairs regardless of the situation. This was put into effect as of 4/1/2020. Tremendous safety issue requiring Hyundai attention.

2 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 04/23/2020

Every time that I drive my vehicle my car stalls and it almost cause me to wreck. I had fuel pump problem in which I spent over $1,000 to get fixed is still having issues and the Hyundai will not refund me my money knowing that the fuel pump has a recall. They have constantly been giving me the run around.

3 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 09/12/2019

"takata recall" dears, I have Sonata 2013 limited and the high pressure fuel pipe that connects to the fuel pump outlet have been damaged, and now there is a fuel leak from the pipe, I tried to find a replacement part in my country but I couldn't find. I'm staying in kingdom of bahrain (gcc country), and I bought the car from uae. Please let me know how I can replace this pipe.

4 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 07/14/2019

The car was parked overnight. The next day I went to start my car and smelled overwhelming gas fumes. My fuel is being depleted quicker than normal and the smell has only intensified over time. My check engine light never came on. When I lifted the hood, I saw what looked like fuel being spewed out from the high pressure fuel pump. I took my car to Hyundai and was given a $800 quote to fix the part and was never alerted to the fact that there was an open recall related to this matter.

5 Other Fuel System Pump problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2018

I was driving on a city street and all of a sudden with no prior warning at all, several lights popped up on my dash alerting me of an issue and my car just shut completely down. I immediately pulled over concerned it may be due to the engine recall. I had no issues with the car and never had any indicator lights on the dash light up at all ever. It turned out my fuel in tank pump needed to be replaced. I am still shocked that this happened with a 2013 model car. I am very curious if there are a lot of other people who have had this same issue. I had a Toyota camry 2002 for many years and other older model cars and never had to replace a fuel in tank pump. I was quoted $750+ to replace the fuel pump. But this could've have been a very dangerous situation for myself and others, if I had traffic behind me and in front of me. Someone would have easily hit me not being able to have enough warning to stop.
