Steering Column problems of the 2013 Hyundai Sonata

The steering column makes a very loud clunking noise whenever you go over a bump in the road, like something is loose. The wheel is sometimes hard to turn. Smell of rubber and bulbs have to be continously replaced. It seems the housing has melted.

My whole power steering column gave out as soon as I hit 100,000. It was knocking as I was driving, on all streets and it felt like my steering wheel and wheels were going to fall off. My mechanic said the dealership told him they keep 22 in stock at all times, because they always give out. . That's a safety issue. We are still trying to get it fixed, not under warranty, not even extended warranty and the car is not safe to drive. This should be a recall. I'm a realtor and without a car. The steering wheel has developed extensive play and has a "thump" noise that is felt when the car is sitting idle. Steering play form center is about 3 inches when before it had none. The steering column should be defective, the wheel has a gap when you are driving and sound like metal vs metal, the same sensation when you get a bump, something in the steering column down there looks like unattached and sounds metal vs metal.

Two personal mechanics and autonation have ad said it is the most common problem with my type of vehicle. I am afraid it will lock on me while driving causing an accident of any kind due to negligence of the governed standards required by law to protect consumers vehicle purchases. I deeply request and highly insist the government investigate the apparently most common problem of this vehicle before it becomes something to haunt the company in regret.

Severe clunk from steering column. When the wheel is initially turns, there is a short amount of "play" before a loud clunk can be heard. This is also heard going over bumps. I feel this may be something coming loose and can lead to problems with steering.

The contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the steering column made an abnormal noise and felt loose. The failure occurred without warning. The dealer and manufacturer were not contacted. The failure mileage was approximately 26,000.

My steering wheel has a clicking noise as I turn the wheel which is very annoying. I went to the Hyundai dealership and they said it is a steering column couper that is worn down. The dealership is in process of seeing if Hyundai will replace the small device. It should be a recall since hundreds or thousands of people have this complaint. While driving down the road, whether it be on the highway or city streets, the steering wheel sticks at the center position and it needs to be tugged on to get it to move. The steering column seems to not have been adjusted correctly. The car is not able to stay in a straight line and I have to be constantly correcting the vehicle from either drifting left or right. I took it in to an auto shop to check alignment and that was not the issue. The car drives like it has no center for the steering column, not balanced and just free to turn left or right at random. There seems to be a gap in the steering or what I call a play (meaning a space or gap for when you turn and the steering does not respond, it is that gap that keeps the steering from immediate response and causing the steering to drift to that end point, like a runner in a starting block that is not anchored and slides away or like a scale that is not adjusted to zero starting point. I must say I boughgt the car thinking I was just not used to that type of steering and then thought it was an alignment problem but it has become more evident there is something inns the steering column.
