Steering is making a noise when driving over bumps in road. Steering will also jerk at this time!! this recently came on gradually and is escalating. I heard a loud clicking noise in the steering wheel when I made a right and left turn.
The steering has been progressively getting worse over time. Initially I started with my steering wheel locking occasionally. Then started small clicking and clunking noises when turning steering wheel or going over bumps. Now the noise is all lot worse and the steering wheel feels like it wants to come off at times. I have read several complaints with the same issues and yet Hyundai has not admitted this is an issue with these vehicles. I have been basically pleased with this vehicle up until this issue started. A lot of complaints I read was that this started around the 100,000 mile point, which would be correct with me as well, it started just before I hit 100,000 and has continued and progressively gotten worse.
About a week ago my steering started making a clicking sound when you turn the wheel or hit a small bump in the road. I have had my car for 2 years and 4 days. I have taken it for every recall and had my oil changed like I'm suppose to. It's just odd that it started making this noise out of the blue. Is there a recall on the steering? I know this isn't normal for a cars steering to make noises.

Steering column clunking noise and extra play in handling. I have seen numerous complaints on-line and it's a common problem of the steering coupler gear. This could lead to a dangerous loss of steering control. This should be a recall as dealers want $300 for replacement. The problem occurs anytime steering wheel is turned but when driving it is especially pronounced in reverse and turning.
Clicking noise when steering wheel is turned. Rattles and vibrates while driving. Control while driving seems loose. 72,000 miles, secondary owner - not covered by warranty.
Purchased a 2013 Hyundai Sonata around April of 2019. Noticed a slight clunking noise when turning steering wheel left or right immediately after purchase. Took it to the Hyundai dealership in chambersburg PA. They took care of 2 open recalls. Then they asked if we wanted to fix the clunking noise in the steering wheel & said there were no current recalls for it yet. The noise has changed to a louder more constant noise at all speeds and road conditions that is really annoying & makes us fear that there is a more extensive problem. Found out that the 2011 models had a recall for the problem & are very concerned about our vehicle. We drive a lot on interstates & do not want to risk a loss of steering. We have grandchildren that are babies! please help!.
Steering coupler was recalled and replaced at around 80,000, engine failed at 106,000ish and was replaced by Hyundai with remanufactured motor, steering is making noise again and acting exactly like before related to the steering column coupler. Noticed a lot of complaints about steering failure issues after engine replacement. Also, voiced concerns about repetitive failure of rear light bulbs and what appears to be faulty poor quality light plugs or too light of wiring for lights on car; nothing done a peacock Hyundai in columbia to check matter or remedy matter. Peacock Hyundai is now stating that the steering column has failed on a 5 year old car requesting approximately 1600. 00 to replace on issue that is acting like coupler problem; one of the Hyundai people in the bay said that is a coupler issue and the other jumped in and said it wasn't. Note: this vehicle had said coupler repaired under warranty; engine failed and was replaced at 106,000 due to shavings in engine (recall or service bulletin), now this reoccurrence of a steering issue has occurred just after the engine replacement. Just to pass this one as well; car has had two brake jobs within two years and I drive conservatively.
Clanking noise in the steering when driving down roads any little bump it makes noiseand when turning steering wheel it has slack in tension and clacks also stationary and moving.
Steering wheel noise/clunk. I am experiencing a noise in the steering wheel. After research I saw alot of people reporting the same issue on you tube. A friend of mine who has the same model had the same issue and had it fixed. Looks like it's a common issue on this model cars.
My steering wheel started to feel a little loose and started making a thumping noise when steering left or right. It does this only when the car is in idle or while been driven, does not do this when turned off. I was just told by a local mechanic the entire steering column will need to be replaced.

It does this only when the car is in idle or while been driven, does not do this when turned off. I was just told by a local mechanic the entire steering column will need to be replaced and that it is not the only newer Hyundai Sonata with this issue that he has had to repair. Cost of repair $900+.
I have a 2013 Hyundai Sonata and for the past year and a half every month I'm having to replace the driver side brake light it keeps burning up and melting I have contacted Hyundai numerous times about this with no resolution to the problem from them. . For the past two years my steering column has been making a weird clicking noise in the steering is extremely loose I have contacted Hyundai about this situation as well and have taken the car to a mechanic for both reasons the brakes and the steering and they say that they are constantly having people with high on days come in with these exact same problems.

I purchased my car from a Hyundai dealership in July 2014 with approximately 21,000 miles. I do not drive it very often as I work from home. Currently, it has about 61,000 miles. Recently, I have noticed a clicking noise when turning my steering wheel left or right (stationary and in motion). The steering wheel also rattles very loudly when driving on the interstate at high speeds or going over speed bumps. I was told that the coupler is worn and that it would be $300 to replace (parts and labor). I have had my car for a short time and am very disappointed to have to replace something that is not a direct result of driver negligence. Apparently, this is a very common issue which has been recalled in the 2011 model. Hyundai should definitely pay for these repairs as it is evidence of poor workmanship.
As many other complaints on the internet and the nhsta site my Sonata makes a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel. The 2011 Sonata was recalled. Why are the later years not when apparently the same issue exists. This is dangerous and needs to be repaired by the manufacturer. How many complaints will it take for the government to take action? how many deaths? the noise is made when turning the steering wheel to the left and right.
My steering column makes a noise , a clicking sound when you turn it.
