1 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2021

The break lights keep burning out. They have melted the plastic that holds the light bulb. I replace the light bulbs once a month. It seems like it has a bad power surge or faulty wires. I have switched to led light bulbs and they still don't work. I have seen thousands of other Hyundai Sonata drivers say the same exact complaint. I am highly surprised that this has not already been a recall due to an extreme safety issue of the electrical and wiring system. Hyundai Sonata drivers are getting pulled over a lot due to this defect and are replacing bulbs at an extremely high rate than they should be. This needs to be investigated and recalled for customers safety. This is an ongoing issue.

Front head lights keep blowing out as well as backlights. The wiring has gotten so hot that it has started to melt the housing that holds the tail lights so they keep blowing out.

4 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 11/29/2019

Tail lights and head lights melted. Replaced the bulbs multiple times and burnt out/melted. The most recent time I took my 2013 Hyundai Sonata in to get serviced I was told I need to replace all of the light assemblies since they all melted and that was the only fix. They told me nothing was wrong with the wiring/electric but it seems odd for all of the lights to melt even after being replaced from after melting in the past. They told me at the dealership that this was a very common problem with the Sonata but there was no recalls out for it so the only thing they could do is replace the light assemblies again.

5 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2019

I have been replacing break/tail light bulbs for 3 years, my bulbs melt into the harness causing me to have to dig the bulb out. Right now I have glass everywhere in the tail light due to my bulb exploding. This morning I started my car and had no back running lights and no break lights, that's very inconvenient when I go to work before an auto store is open. A recall needs to happen because there's so many people dealing with this same problem. I am not sure if it's faulty wiring but the bulbs burn way to hot. This happens no matter if you barely use the lights or not, even if you are parked and lights are on and even if you are just driving. Today my light sparked, the bulb exploded and I had to cut the lights off in order to stop the sparks from causing a fire.

Tl the contact owns a 2013 Hyundai Sonata. While driving at night and depressing the brake pedal, the rear brake lights failed to illuminate. The contact also noticed a burning odor inside the vehicle. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road and noticed that the rear driver's side brake bolt fell out off the socket and the wire of the socket was on fire. The contact put out the fire and removed the light bulb to prevent it from bursting into flames. The vehicle was not taken to a dealer or an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 113,000.

For years now, I have had to replace multiple brake lights day after day. I've gotten tickets from this. I have pictures of burnt plastic melting (fire hazard!) why is this not being addressed as I just read over 50 of the same comment?! then recently, I replaced the entire tail light assembly on both sides. A few days ago, my brakes will not turn off! I am driving and my brake lights stay on all the time! again, safety issue! I have young kids and one car! I just left dealership showing them problem and get the car back with the brake lights still on!! $300 later and my problem isn't fixed!! it wasn't even touched! I keep reading the same problems over and over and nothing is addressed!! I have spent more money on repairs vs what I actually paid for the car (not to mention I've bought it brand new in 2013. In 2016 I needed a new engine! please make the lights and electrical wiring a recall!! we need help this crap is expensive! I regret buying this vehicle so much!!.

"takata recall" case # 11315399. Passenger brake light is inoperative. Hyundai dealership service department determined that both tail lamp housing is warped and in need of replacement. Hyundai customer service representative further explained to me that the cause of this condition occurring is that the housing socket heats up and is the cause of the warping. I brought this to the dealership attention about a possible electrical defect on numerous occasions. I filed a complaint with Hyundai USA good will department and requested that they repair the vehicle, they declined based on the warranty expiration. The tail lamp housing warping on any vehicle is not a normal occurrence during the life of a vehicle. Further, Hyundai is aware of this problem. They have been requiring customers to pay for the repairs on affected vehicles. The consumer should be able to replace the lamp bulb and not the lamp housing as a general wear and tear operation. I presently have a vehicle that I can not drive due the exorbitant cost to correct the problem. I am requesting that your department investigate this matter in order to generate a recall on this vehicle for defective tail lamp or wiring housing problem.

13 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2015

I have replaced numerous brake lights and they keep getting melted and burnt out. Im not sure if its the electrical wiring or the actual housing of the brake light itself but this needs to be recalled. I see numerous of the same cars with the same issue. Also during summer months you can smell strong gas fumes throughout the car. As if I was directly breathing in gas. Its that bad. This is not right. This is supposed to be vented out of the vehicle. I have children in the car with me, who get dizzy and sick. This is while driving and while parked.

14 Wiring problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2014

After leaving 2013 Sonata parked for 3 hours car would not go over 5 miles an hour. After investigation by Hyundai mechanics they found that a portion of engine wiring harness had been chewed through by some kind of critter. Come to find out the material used as wiring insulation is soy based that attracts critters. This could be a sever safety issue that could lead to accidents, fires, or what ever.
