Once again I am having to replace a bulb for my vehicle. This will be the second time in 3 months I have had to replace my rear blinker bulb. Not including the 4-5 times per year I have to replace headlight bulbs. This time the wiring has melted and the bulb has nearly melted the lens cover. I only buy the exact oem recommended bulb every time. Nothing fancy. Just the basic old school bulbs. Every year model around mine has been recalled for this exact issue.

The vehicle is stalling in the acceleration process. I can feel and hear the stall by the air conditioner going out or fading out when it happens while driving. Pressing the gas and it barely moves at times. Makes a noise now while running. Unknown to whether it's electrical or engine or transmission. Pull out in the traffic accelerating but the car wasn't moving at the pace it should have. Could have cause an accident when trying to cross on going traffic. Just got the vehicle 2 weeks ago. No one has inspected the vehicle yet. Going to have it looked at for recalls. No warning lights appeared to reflect an issue, but there clearly is.

The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the hvac blower motor became inoperable with no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the blower motor fuse had melted and failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.

Went from 65 and dropped down to 40 going up grades on the freeway. Started shaking, check engine light went on and electric battery disappeared from dash. Got to top of grade, went back to normal. Problem repeated on next grades. Car had just left dealership lot an hour prior where it was safety inspected and they said all was fine. Took back to dealership for inspection and they said that there were no codes showing for what happened and all was well with the vehicle, when obviously it was not.

The cars fan is constantly running even when the car is cool. I think it has to do with the itms I contacted the dealer and they said there’s nothing they can do about it this happens every time the vehicle is started even when I am parked. The fan is constantly running at 100%.
We were backing up and leaving a parking space when the emergency braking system overrode our driving and forced a stop. This has happened many times, once while turning at a red light (which we had the right-of-way) and our car stopped on the middle of the intersection. Another time was during a turn in a non-traffic light turn lane where timing is important. Our car was again completely stopped in the middle of the road in oncoming traffic.

On my 2011 Hyundai Sonata GLS, both rear tail lights have melted to the point that the lightbulbs cannot be extracted and the brake and tail lights no longer work. When I looked into this, I found out this is a common issue on 2011 Hyundai Sonatas. It is almost always caused by excessive heat from the standard incandescent bulbs, which damages the wiring harness and deforms the plastic housing. When I called the closest Hyundai dealer (in chico, California), they told me the warranty had expired last year and that I should have received a notice about it after I obtained ownership of the car in March 2025 (a little over a year ago). However, I did not receive a notice about this. Since the tail lights do not work properly as a result of this problem, it is a safety issue as it could cause an accident. It should be a recall repair instead of a warranty that expires. My car is still well under the 200,000 mile limit that was set on the extended warranty, but they're refusing to honor that because of the warranty being expired.
Car just stated making g noise went into lp. Mode now saying k ock sensor.
I have a Hyundai Sonata 2017 one year after I bought the car I started having acceleration problems. I have had the throttle changed and the valve gasket cover repaired. On April 15, 2026 the check engine light came on. On April 29th I got theta 2 emissions update installed at Hyundai auburn, al. I took it too auto zone the same day the code p1326 was showing up and p0014. On may 5th my car entered limp mode for excessive oil leakage, I got an oil change April 6, 2026. My car has never done that until the update was installed. I get my oil changed every 6 months and also have sent them records. They denied my claim due to lack of maintenance.

This is a well-known and widely reported issue: 2013 Hyundai Sonata hybrid car, which has recently experienced the following dashboard alert: "hybrid system warning! safely stop and do not drive. " when the car is pulled over and shut down and sits for roughly 10 minutes, it starts up just fine and runs again for an undetermined amount of time, and then the alert will go off unexpectedly. This has happened twice, once the car was driven about 4 miles, and the alert came on, and the second time the alert came on as the car was started for the first time of the day. The car repair shop indicates that there are no codes saved when this happens. This is apparently a documented issue, where the codes are not saved, and difficult to diagnose by repair shops and dealers. It could lead to the vehicle completely shutting down while driving at highway speeds within traffic, which could cause a serious accident involving multiple vehicles and people. Why is this not recalled by the dealer and fixed? this has been reviewed by the dealer and by an independent repair shop. Is the NHTSA waiting for the death count to require the manufacturer to address the issue?.

I wanted to report the failure of my rear camera and/or the electrical circuit that is tied to it. It's my understanding that Hyundai has issued multiple recalls across different years/vehicles for issues in this area. My 2019 Sonata is not included in those current recalls. I was without my vehicle for a week and was charged over $1600 to repair. The issue was diagnosed and repaired by an independent mechanic. When they system failed numerous error lights/warning went off and continued to cycle thru (plus beeping). I wanted to report this in hopes of continued pressure on Hyundai to add this model/year to their recalls.

On April 14, 2026, my 2019 Hyundai Sonata was parked at a retail store parking lot. Returning from the store, I attempted to start the car, and it did not start. I attempted to start it again, and I saw smoke coming out from under the hood. I immediately exited the vehicle and opened the hood. I saw open flames coming out of the engine area, about 4” high. I called 911 and waited about 10 minutes for the fire department to arrive. During this time, the flames engulfed the entire engine compartment and extended vertically above the hood height. The hood eventually melted and fell back onto the engine area. The fire department came and put out the fire. The car is totaled. There were no injuries, thank god!.
Supplemental information to existing NHTSA complaint involving a 2017 Hyundai Sonata plug-in hybrid (VIN: [xxx] ) while traveling at approximately 70 mph on a heavily traveled highway, the vehicle suddenly and completely lost propulsion without warning. The vehicle rapidly decelerated in traffic, creating a significant safety hazard for my family and surrounding motorists and requiring emergency maneuvering to reach the shoulder. The vehicle was towed to an authorized Hyundai dealership, where diagnostic testing identified multiple high-voltage battery system fault codes: • p0b68 • p0b6d • p0b72 the dealership diagnosed a high-voltage battery system failure requiring battery replacement. The vehicle is currently non-drivable. During my research, I found multiple owner reports involving Hyundai Sonata hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles experiencing loss of power, hybrid system failures, limp mode conditions, and propulsion-related incidents. I also learned that Hyundai previously issued recall 18v166000 involving 2016–2018 Sonata plug-in hybrid vehicles due to battery management system and voltage protection device concerns that could result in loss of power while driving. Dealer says does appply for my car. Although my vehicle’s fault codes may differ from those addressed in the recall, both involve battery-related failures capable of affecting propulsion and creating a highway safety risk. My concern extends beyond my individual vehicle. A high-voltage battery or battery management system failure that can cause a complete loss of propulsion at highway speed without warning presents a potentially serious safety risk. I respectfully request that NHTSA evaluate whether similar incidents involving Hyundai Sonata hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles indicate a broader safety concern warranting further review. I can provide dealership diagnostic reports, repair estimates, towing records, photos, and videos upon request. Thank you for your consideration, [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of informati.
The car will idle high around 1200 rpms. The car will most of the times fix the issue when you turn the car off and back on but it will start again after driving. This is a known issue with the car. I have had the egr valve replaced since it will pop up the codes p240f and p049 for egr slow response and control position exceeded learning limit but the problem came back within two days. I did find a forum that deals with the joint connector repair but this needs to be a recall as I have come across many people who have this problem and paying out of pocket to fix it.

My 2011 Hyundai Sonata experienced a flashing check engine light and entered limp mode (vehicle cannot accelerate), displaying diagnostic code p1326. This code is associated with Hyundai’s knock sensor detection system (ksds), which was installed as part of a recall-related campaign to detect engine bearing failure in theta ii engines. The vehicle previously had its engine replaced under recall due to known defects involving connecting rod bearing failure. The current condition renders the vehicle unsafe to operate, as it is limited in power and may stall or fail unexpectedly. The system is designed to detect potential engine failure, which is a known safety issue. Despite this, the dealership has not completed proper diagnostic procedures related to the ksds system and potential engine failure. The vehicle has been out of service for approximately one month without resolution. This appears to involve a failure of a recall-related safety system (ksds) and/or a recurring engine defect that Hyundai has previously acknowledged. My biggest concern is that they are diagnosing this issue as an electrical defect rather than the engine itself (which the system is design to warn about) in order to avoid having the repairs covered under the warranty that originated due to the class action lawsuit, and this component was only created and provided to consumers with no charge in order to protect the company from having to continue replacing defective engines.
While I was driving my car wouldn’t go no higher than 60mph and kept dropping speed but I came to a stop and when I stopped the car was smoking. I heard knocking noise and rumbling noise on the passenger side. It wouldn’t start again.

The back up camera sometimes is only a black screen, it is random and has done it in all sorts of weather. Usually is corrected when vehicle is started next.
I was driving on the highway and the engine shut off but everything else remained on. I drifted to the breakdown lane and turned the car off. It would not start again and the car began acting up by turning lights on and off, telling me to check the tire pressure, and not unlocking the doors. I then saw some very light smoke from the engine compartment. I popped the hood and looked and saw a glow on the bottom side of the engine area. Then the car just went up in flames.

Here is your updated review with that included: ? I am very disappointed with Hyundai motor America and the service I received at Hyundai of renton. I own a 2017 Hyundai Sonata and received a letter about a required software update and ignition cylinder protector due to known theft issues. I went to the renton dealer for the recall service. They performed the software update and were supposed to install the ignition cylinder protector. Unfortunately, my car was later stolen because of this exact issue. The ignition was damaged during the theft, and I had to replace it myself just so I could drive the car. When I returned to the dealer, they refused to install the ignition cylinder protector, saying the ignition was broken. It was broken because of the theft — which happened due to Hyundai’s known defect. After the recall software update, my key fob also stopped working properly. I went back to the dealership, and they refused to fix or properly reprogram my key fob. On top of that, the service manager, john, was very rude and unprofessional. This has been the worst experience I’ve had with a vehicle and a dealership. Because of this situation. Very disappointed.
On Feb. 10, 2026, my Sonata began showing a blue screen on the infotainment screen when the vehicle was in reverse. The blue screen contained the message "incoming camera signal error. Please try again later. " between Feb. 10 and 22, I continued seeing the aforementioned blue screen and message. In addition, I began seeing a green screen with a message "no camera signal received. Please try again later. ”. On Feb. 22, I was attempting to reverse from my garage and my camera failed to engage. I saw a black screen without picture when the car was first put in reverse, so I put in park and then switch back to reverse. The camera did not engage and the screen remained on the car's menu. Camera then flashed on briefly and then went back to the black screen, then moved multiple time between to the blue screen with the warning message “incoming camera signal error. Please try again later. ” and the green screen with message “no camera signal received. Please try again later. ” the issue eventually began occurring both while in reverse and in drive. During this time frame, I took the vehicle to the dealership on multiple occasions, Feb. 10 and Feb. 19, and they were unable to replicate the challenge. I took the vehicle back to the dealer on Feb. 23, and the issue was replicated. The issue was 'repaired' and picked up on Mar. 19, but had to return 3 hours later due to the same issue then in an exacerbated state. The issue was finally repaired on Apr. 1 after a complete floor assembly replacement. The issues caused the safety concern of limited visibility when driving.
While driving the vehicle the other night, the cars electrical system completely shut off for a few seconds before popping back on. The whole car inside and out went completely black. It was around 10pm on a dark country road. I had the seat heater on high and the defrost on high because it was cold. It appeared to happen when the auto high beams were supposed to engage. Instead of them engaging, the whole cars electrical system just shut off. No headlights, no instruments, interior lighting, console display, nothing worked. The car was in battery mode at the time, and it sounded like the whole car just shutoff. I took my foot off the accelerator wondering what happened, and before I could understand what was going on, everything came back on. It did not prompt me to start the vehicle again. The auto on/off brights never worked like they were supposed to again either. I had to manually engage and disengage them. Thankfully it was just me on that stretch of road going 30mph at the time or it could have ended badly.
Our 2022 Hyundai Sonata experienced multiple issues related to recalls affecting the vehicle’s reliability and operation. Due to these ongoing problems, the vehicle was taken to a dealership and has remained out of service and in dealership possession for approximately 90 days. The issues were confirmed by the dealership, and Hyundai motor America was involved in the case. As a result, Hyundai approved a full buyback of the vehicle, indicating the problems could not be resolved in a reasonable timeframe. Despite this, the vehicle remains out of service and unusable. Hyundai has failed to complete the buyback process and has not provided a resolution within a reasonable time. There have been repeated delays and missed timelines. The extended period without a functioning vehicle creates reliability concerns and potential safety risks, as the vehicle could not be safely depended on for regular use prior to being removed from service. The vehicle is currently still in dealership possession and unavailable for use.
This car is becoming more of a headache than it’s worth. Turned the car on, my car started shaking and my check engine light came on. Then I got this message “a possible condition with your engine control system has been detected on a 2017 Hyundai Sonata”.

I have noticed puddles under/near rear side door/tire, the smell of gas after filling up tank. And a reduced mpg lower than normal with same driving habits.
Unknown what system failed. The vehicle is at an impound lot and can be inspected on request. Police and fire department were on the scene. Police did provide a report # , and fire department provided a fire rescue case number. Safety of driver was put at risk due to the fire and potential for burning or even death. Other drivers could have been at risk if traffic had not allowed for quick movement to side of the road. No warning lamps had been on prior to the drive and none prior to fire. First indication was a burning smell while driving. As pulling over, another driver honked to alert to fire he could see from rear of CA,. Before I noticed the flames. Upon getting out of car first flames I saw appeared to be coming from under passenger side of car. The fire department arrived about 15 minutes after pulling to side of the road. The car was fully engulfed in flames. They then extinguished the fire. Police saw vehicle and insurance will examine. Apparently this is a known issue in Hyundai of which this vehicle had no open recalls pertaining to such.

Odometer fraud. The contact owns a 2014 Hyundai Sonata. The contact purchased the vehicle on April 28, 2025, with 28,974 miles from a dealer. On January 20, 2026, while attempting to start the vehicle after being parked for a while, the vehicle lost power and failed to start. The contact walked to an autozone nearby, where a mechanic diagnosed that the battery and starter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired while with the mechanic, and the contact was informed that the actual mileage on the vehicle was 170,123. The contact reported the issue to the dealer and was informed that it would be investigated; however, the contact had not received any additional information. The dealer had taken possession of the vehicle and informed the contact that payments were still expected despite the odometer discrepancy. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and the odometer discrepancy. The failure mileage was not provided.
Engine started rough idling and knocking. Took to a mechanic who found metal particulate in the oil and the engine spun a bearing.
While driving, vehicle slowed down abruptly and stopped. It was flashing “vehicle not safe to drive”. This happened before hen I got a new engine 2 years ago. Even with a new engine now it is happening again. I took it to Nissan moreno valley and paid $240 for diagnostic only to find out there a software update they had to do with a tablet. No work needed to be one just a software update hooked up to their system. Hyundai cooperate would not assist to over this fee. I like have crashed with this happening. The car just stops with no warning and it’s extremely dangerous how it cuts off while driving. Luckily I was on the streets not freeway.
I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata se v6 3. 3l and on January 9th, 2026 I had an incident where on the road my charging system light on signifying alternator failure. I made it home, but the battery was dead which was recently purchased. After recharging the battery I conducted tests with a multimeter and have determined the alternator has failed. The alternator has accrued a coating of oil overtime that was unknown until my research into the matter of root cause. Hyundai manufactures a v6 engine family called lamba in which a version called lambda mpi g6db was introduced in 2007–2009 Hyundai santa fe (cm) and 2005–2009 Hyundai Sonata (nf) models. In 2023 Hyundai issued a recall for the 2007-2009 santa fe for a cylinder head cover oil leak repair where oil drips from the valve cover directly onto the alternator causing it to fail. I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata 3. 3l v6 engine where the very same issue has occurred with photo evidence that has caused my alternator to fail and have tested the issue. This vehicle model was not included in the recall despite the engine being exactly the same as the recalled model, the year being the exact same as the santa fe, and the alternator in the exact placement where the oil drips into the alternator causing failure just like the santa fe recall. The santa fe recall with the same issue is documented with national highway traffic safety administration below: [xxx] Hyundai has yet to issue the same recall for the Hyundai Sonata brand of vehicles, despite the same issue occurring and a known issue with the lambda mpi g6db engine design effecting multiple models in the same way documented across multiple owners of these vehicles with various fixes suggested on youtube, reddit, and enthusiast forums for this engineering failure that causes considerable risk if the alternator fails in operation on roadways. I have taken my vehicle to a certified Hyundai dealership multiple times due to intermittent starting issues. The car will unlock remotely, and the lights and electrical components will turn on, but the engine will not start. When this happens, I press the ignition button to turn the vehicle off and then try again. Sometimes it eventually starts, but there have been several occasions when it would not start at all, forcing me to call for a tow or have the battery jumped. This issue occurs most often in cool or cold weather. I had a brand new battery installed at the dealership in July 2025, yet the problem has continued. I have been dealing with this for over a year and have even been stranded out of state in below-freezing temperatures. Each time I bring the vehicle in, the dealership states they are unable to replicate the issue while it is in their service department.
I was involved in a severe motor vehicle collision in a 2017 Hyundai Sonata. The airbags failed to deploy during the crash. I sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene by ems. This vehicle has known safety recalls, and I believe the airbag non-deployment may indicate a safety defect.
