1 Software problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 10/27/2020

The check engine light illuminated intermittently at 92k miles, then the engine started making noises intermittently, and then the vehicle was slow to accelerate intermittently. The knock sensor software upgrade had previously been installed. The synthetic oil had been changed at 82k and 86k. South point Hyundai changed the oil, replaced the battery and turbocharger at 92381 miles. Around 93246 miles the intermittent engine noises and intermittent no acceleration and slow acceleration are back, and the check engine light is not illuminating. Returned my Sonata to south point Hyundai who reports the engine is bad, but there are no diagnostic error codes, and they are waiting to hear back from Hyundai on how to proceed. Hence, the knock sensor software update is not a corrective action for detecting engine failure, alerting drivers to engine failure. The knock sensor software update is not an effective screen for engine defects. The engine noises occur when the vehicle is stationary, in motion, on a city street, and on a highway.

2 Software problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/15/2020

The recall of the ecu flammable software recalled was fixed at Hyundai tysinger dealership in hampton va July 2020 when I retrieved the car the tpms sensor was illuminated they assured me the software pkg they upgraded and other services provided were not related to that happening. I had a second option at rnr hampton va who ensured me that replacing each tire valve would fix the issue. They charged me 400 on 9/16/2020 for that service when the car was picked up the tpms sensor needed to re-set itself and driving it with it was fine - it would ask to prompt me to re-set it and / or do it automatically the next 24 hours - it did not do that - it is Jan 18 2021 I just had my diagnostic for the tpms sensor for this 2015 Hyundai Sonata at hall automotive they are saying all four valves and software that the valves placed with rnr were not complaint with Hyundai software and should of known that - it states that prohibition of 49 usc 30122 are to be integrated and compatible before proceeding the dealership - rnr and original dealership should all me accountable for this 2000 error.

3 Software problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/01/2020

My Hyundai Sonata 2012 recently experienced engine seizure on a 5 lane highway in NJ garden state parkway at 70 mph without any warning what so ever. Car was checked for this recall year ago and supposedly software was installed to notify if engine was to fail. There was no warning! dealer confirmed the engine died and is covered under the recall. I also had mentioned concern about the noise under the car. They replaced the engine & serpentine belt and told me to come back in 3 days as it was too early to do the inspection. When I got the car back the noise was still under the car, the tire light came on, back door lock stopped working and ac stopped working I called back and they told me $1500 worth of work to pass inspection. 3 days earlier they said the car was good to pass. Including continental tires that Hyundais horrible suspension ruined at 16k miles(tire warranty 70k miles) and both sway bars and sway bar link. Which means I could have rolled the car at any curve. Axles were changed twice on this car as they told me " manufactory faulty" axles they put on and other suspension parts. Tires were rotated and aligned by them! if that's not good enough person working on my car damaged both of my front doors when letting the car off the lift. Then the dealer tried to cover up the damage and sign me the car back! car has some serious electrical issues with interior/exterior. Lights melting, bulbs burning and now the car doors locks. Better yet new recall says if you had your engine replaced you are in a danger of the fire. How am I supposed to trust this "certified dealer" ? + the other 8 recalls and class actions about this car- Hyundai needs to be forced to buy back these all of these cars. Not only is that not safe for me its also not safe for other drivers! I've also been without my car for about a month at this point.

5 Software problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/06/2019

On five separate occasions while driving on the highway the vehicle will loose power and ability accelerate with a flashing engine light. These incidents have almost caused me to be rear ended three times because you are not able to accelerate above 60mph in rush hour traffic on a busy interstate and the ability just stops quickly with no warning. The vehicle also has been having the rpms drop to 0 and shoot back up while braking, and while driving it is tough to accelerate and then you will feel a noticeable kick and the rpms will shoot up drastically before it will accelerate. I have had 2 software updates done, a new wire harness, knock sensor cleaning and a knock sensor replacement. The engine code is always the same 1326.

6 Software problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/03/2019

June 2019, at about 11,500 miles took car in for an oil change and was told due to a recall, a software update needed to be done. At about 13,500 miles, engine light came in, car was jerking in motion on highway and lost power. Car would not accelerate last 62 mph. Car was serviced and block sensor wire harness was replaced. Car was returned and again while in highway engine light came on, lost power, car was jerking while child was in the car and while car was in motion. Car was serviced and block sensor was replaced. At about 18k miles, engine light came on while on highway and again with child in the car and car lost power and also was jerking while in motion. Car was serviced and engine replaced. 3000 miles later, again while in the highway, engine light came on, car lost power and was jerking and would not accelerate. Car was serviced and the following day, while on the expressway in chicago, the engine light came on and the car lost power and was jerking hard while in motion. Car was towed to dealership in rockford IL. After the 4th attempt to repair, lemon law claim was filed with Hyundai motor America which they denied due to mileage. This car is unsafe to drive. When it loses power there is no warning, no brake lights come on to notify cars behind, and while in the busy expressway in chicago was very dangerous. Also dangerous to have children in this vehicle. Hyundai motor America refuses to do anything but repairs and is ignoring the dangerousness this problem. This occurred all 5 times while the car was in motion. The code that reads for this is 1326 per the service records.

7 Software problem of the 2018 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/05/2019

I was exiting the freeway and lost power, could not accelerate, blinking engine came on and on my screen it said "a possible condition with you engine control system has been detected. A full system check recommended to be done when convenient. Please contact you local dealership for an appointment" I was able to get to an area and have it towed. This could of been very scary and dangerous if I had still been on the freeway doing 70! I could not have driven it, it was missing and wouldn't get above 20-30 mph. I had the knock sensor software update done at the dealer the week prior to this happening. The dealer is saying the wiring harness needs replaced and will not be available until the end of the month! many on here have waited months I hope that is not the case. I've read numerous complaints on here and other sites that this is happening after the update. My car seemed fine before they did the update. Some people need new engines! how do I know that my engine doesn't have damage, I assume that Hyundai knows something since with the sensor update they extended my 100k warranty to 120k. It said the sensor is to help catch possible rod bearing wear and extends warranty must mean they expect engines to have problems! what is going on here and why isn't there any official recall? my car only has 20k I don't expect this kind of problem. I leased cars for many years but since I'm close to retiring I bought this wish I was still leasing so I could get out from under this in 2 years!.

8 Software problem of the 2014 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

The software update per Hyundais "953" service campaign, when activated, reduces engine performance which could lead to accidents (due to insufficient acceleration, etc. ). I had the recent engine software update per Hyundai's 953 campaign. On 3/22/19, I exited a highway and slowed down prior to merging onto the next road. I needed to accelerate, however my engine bogged and hesitated significantly. As such, another car quickly approaching had to break heavily to avoid a collision with my car. I looked down and observed my engine light flashing. I took the car in to action Hyundai (millville, NJ), and they stated that the newly installed software had detected issues with my engine and automatically placed my engine in this low-power mode. I have since learned that I will be receiving a warranty engine replacement.

9 Software problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/29/2019

Tl- the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that a failure progressed with reduced engine power and the engine warning light flashed. The manufacturer provided a product enhancement campaign for a software update pertaining to the engine system however, within less than a week from the dealer hatfield Hyundai, 1400 auto mall pkwy, columbus, OH 43228, (855) 627-7144 providing the remedy the vehicle was unable to start. The vehicle was towed back to the dealer for further testing and diagnosis. The vehicle was included in NHTSA campaign number: 18v934000 (engine, fuel system, gasoline) but the dealer had not yet provided the remedy for the recall repair. In addition, an abnormal smoking issue progressed while the dealer was servicing the vehicle so they still had the vehicle as the contact was waiting for the repairs to be completed. The contact was uncertain if the manufacturer remedies may provide a permanent fix. The manufacturer was notified of the failures and the contact was waiting on a response to determine the guidelines to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 121,457. Dyd.

10 Software problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/29/2017

My Sonata has started stalling and shutting down without warning. The first time it happed was Dec 12th. I just finished accelerating from about 35mph to 60mph. There the vehicle made a loud thump and the engine shut down. Seconds later I lost power steering, dash lights, and headlights. The car restarted without issue. The same problem happened on Dec. 16th while traveling at a constant 30mph. I experienced the same symptoms as before, except the vehicle did not shake or create a loud noise before shutting down. Mileage was at 75980. Temperature was in the 20's. I took the car do the dealership and they could not find anything wrong or recreate the problem. The third time this has happened was Dec 29th. I was traveling at 20mph and coasting to a stoplight. It was 19 deg outside and the mileage was around 76800. So far the car has not shut off when the weather is above freezing. Lower temps might be contributing to the problem but not likely to be the primary cause. In all cases the car was at operating temp and was running for more then 30 min. It has not yet shut off while accelerating. Only maintaining speed or coasting. About a two months ago the dealer did a software update on the vehicle due to a claimed recall. The issue started about 2-3 weeks later this is definitely a safety issue since it happens without warning. I did find some other complaints similar to this while searching.

11 Software problem of the 2016 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/20/2017

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Sonata. While driving approximately 25 mph, the vehicle shut off without warning. The vehicle was towed to the dealer (legacy Hyundai in mcdonough, GA, 770-914-2800), but the failure was not duplicated. Later, a diagnostic test was performed and the technician diagnosed and updated the ecn and vcn software. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. 12 Software problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/12/2017

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. While the vehicle was operated, the steering column made an abnormal clicking sound. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for an oil change and front wheel alignment. The contact was informed that the alignment could not be performed. The technician was informed that the error in the software for the power steering caused an error in their system; therefore, an alignment could not be performed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The technician stated that the vehicle fell under NHTSA campaign number: 10v426000 (steering), but the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 123,000.

13 Software problem of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/06/2016

On three different occasions the dash flashed "check tpms" meaning check air in the tires. On all 3 occasions the car would not go into gear. The next occasion the check tpms came on so I put air in the tires and drove around the corner to reset the tire pressure monitor (computer). Upon coming around the corner to park the car the check tpms warning came on again the car powered down and I coasted to park. The next morning I called the dealership to have the car checked I was told from jared that the technician did a software update and that " he thinks, maybe, might have fixed the problem. At this point I did not pick up the car because they could not guarantee the car had been fixed and that it will not die while driving around Hyundai service department said they were not sure because they could not duplicate the problem I had with the car. I left the car there contacted hyndai corporate where they opened a case #9327831 . . They in turn had a fast team working on my car and they are not sure if the car is fixed or not because they could not duplicate the same problem. The have had my car for a month now still have not been able to find out what the problem is. I was told it does not fall under lemon law unless the car does the same thing again. But I do not know if the car is fixed 100% it only has 12,513 miles on it. Car would not go into drive the gear shift would not move to where I could drive the car.

14 Software problem of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/05/2012

I noticed a shuddering at 90,250 miles, while traveling during the winter at around 30-45 mph, but was very intermittent, and would go away. Then on 10/9/2013 at 102,515 miles, from park, the transmission would not engage into reverse or drive. I could hear the transmission shift, but it was not disengaging from park. Per Hyundai service technician, the transmission was "junk" and would need to be replaced. I contacted Hyundai corporate, during which time I was informed they didn't have my information in their system and that in fact there were 2 recalls that they failed to notify me of, and was told that if I allowed the Hyundai service to do the repair right then, that I would be eligible for their policy reimbursement. One of the recalls was an ecm and tcm software update in which symptoms were improper clutching and DE-clutching of gears when accelerating and decelerating. That shift quality over time caused undo stress on the gearing causing my failure. The repair was made, I then had to pay upfront, and a week later they've denied my policy reimbursement claim due to fluid being the cause of failure. I then provided them with further documentation showing that their own technician re-used 5 quarts of my original fluid on the repair order, and that I followed the maintenance record that was suggested by their own technicians advice when I purchased the vehicle. Drain and fill every 30,000 miles. The last drain and fill was on June 14, 2013. Hyundai did not provide me with any fluid analysis or specs to support their denial of my policy reimbursement. I saved the agents voicemail of the denial in which she stated due to "color" and that alone, was the reason why the claim was denied.

15 Software problem of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 01/19/2012

Please be advised that I purchased said vehicle new and at around 35000 miles I started to notice that when I slowed down and came to a stop the transmission would jerk on the down shift, which is not normal. On 01-19-2012 I brought my car to the dealer where I purchased from . I was informed that this problem is common and that once my computer is reset it should go away, and there is a service bulletin on that issue. On 03-19-2012 I was having the same issue so the transmission was replaced with factory reconditioned transmission. Now with 74000 mile the car is back for the 5 th time for the same transmission problem. The dealer has my car and I have not heard from the dealer or Hyundai corporation for two weeks. I believe that Hyundai corporation knew the problem existed and neglected to fix the problem other wise a new car with 35000 miles should not have this problem and the mechanics don't know how to remedy the faulty transmission. I am very disappointed with Hyundai and there handling of this problem. I believe the damage has been done, and new software is not going to fix this problem, the bands in the transmission are worn now, the damage has been done. This is just putting a band aid on a serious problem and a manufacturing defect. One does not anticipate any serious problems with a brand new car with only 35000 miles. What good is a 10 year 100. 000 mile warranty when you start having these problem at 35000 miles. I have done some research on-line and there are others who have the same problem with same car, I am not the only one. This is a disgrace Hyundai corporation I purchased said vehicle from atlantic Hyundai inc. Located at 193-205 sunrise highway, west islip NY 11795. I have also contacted Hyundai corporation several times but to no avail.

16 Software problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that he started the vehicle and the tire pressure monitoring light and air bag light both illuminated. The air conditioner also would not function. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for a diagnosis and transmission software was installed into the vehicle. Shortly after the repair, the failures began to occur again. The vehicle was taken to the dealer again for diagnosis and the contact was informed that the engine control module was replaced. After the repair, the traction control light illuminated. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure mileage was 15,000 and the current mileage was 33,000.

17 Software problem of the 2005 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/01/2007

The check engine light keeps coming on. The dealer has tried to fix it three times. The first time the engine light came on the car only had about 12 thousand miles. The light did not come back on for over 10 months. The car now has about 22 thousand miles and the dealer has tried to get the light to go off twice in the last month. The last time was about two weeks ago and the light stayed off for two weeks and now its back on. The dealer kept the car for a week and the light only stayed off for two weeks! the transmission seems to drag when the check engine light comes on.
