2 Windshield problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 08/02/2012

This vehicle has defective sun visors on both the driver and passenger side. The sun visors will not remain in the up position and come down while driving and block my view through the windshield. I have already purchased and replaced the passenger side sun visor in August 2012 . My passenger side sun visor needs to be purchased or replaced I have contact Hyundai via email regarding this to be a safety hazard and the visor drops down suddenly while driving and blocks the windshield view. I have reviewed other complaints regarding this same problem with other vehicle owners of this model Sonata on the national highway traffic safety website. When will Hyundai recall the sun visors and determine that this is a safety hazard. I have already replaced the passenger side sun visor that has the same problem as this is a safety hazard.

4 Windshield problem of the 2012 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/10/2012

Driving on hwy I-385 - looking out the right side of the front windshield I thought I saw a dog run into the path of my car. It was not a dog. It was a distortion in my windshield that created wavy lines of the guardrails that I was driving by. I took my car to greer Hyundai, SC, to see what could be done with the windshield. The service manager saw the distortion in my windshield and then went to check some other 2012 Sonata's. He said that the same distortion was in those also and that no one else had complained. He said that he could order a windshield replacement but that it would undoubtly be the same as what I already had. He gave me the Hyundai customer service phone number. I called them and was assigned the case #4861688. And was told to take the car to another car dealer to see what they had to say. I took the care to greenville Hyundai, sd, and that sales manager also saw the distortion but said that it was in all the 2011 and 2012 Sonata's. I was told to call customer service. Just for good measure I then took the car to capitol Hyundai in columbia, SC. That service manager also saw the distortion but gave me the same advice - to call customer service. So I called customer service 800-633-5151. That person told me that the case had been closed when I was told to take the car to another Hyundai dealer and see what they said. She then gave me the email address to make this complaint. She said that if enough people complained then you would issue a recall to replace the windshield. The distortion through the windshield is only seen from the drivers seat - so only at an angle. It's a safety hazard. Please help me solve this problem.

5 Windshield problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 04/07/2012

While driving at 70 mph, I noticed the white line on right side of road curve sharply inward toward vehicle. This startled me. At first I thought the road curved, then it made me dizzy. Those two feelings lasted about 5 seconds total, more than enough time to cause a serious accident. It turns out the windshield has visual distortions along the lower and side edges. I have noticed this effect in another Sonata as well.

9 Windshield problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 12/20/2011

After scraping some ice from the windshield with a standard plastic scraper, the windshield was covered with scratches. The same scraper was used on the other windows of this car, and on the windshield of another car with no scratching. Tested on another day with a new scraper, and additional scratches were caused. The result is reduced visibility due to the scratches, and an inability to physically clear ice from the windshield in order to prevent additional scratching. Visibility is especially impacted when driving toward the sun. The Hyundai dealer and Hyundai customer service refused to resolve the problem.

2008 Hyundai Sonata both the driver's side and passenger side sun visors drop down into the line-of-sight view out the front windshield. There is no possible way to prevent it from blocking the driver's view. Once they fail, it is permanent, they will not stay up and out of the way ever again. This is a safety issue which someday will cause an accident resulting in property damage, injury, or possible loss of life. These parts will fail even if replaced because of an inherent design defect. Here is a link to numerous other complaints regarding this same issue. . Read more...

17 Windshield problem of the 2011 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/15/2010

The 2011 Hyundai Sonata windshields have distorted images when seated in the front and viewing diagonally across the vehicle and out the windshield. All images show a "ripple effect" . This happens in both directions (left to right and right to left) I checked other new vehicles in the showroom and they all have the same issue. While it is suttle and most may not notice it can be a problem when changing lanes or turning right. Obviously the driver see a distorted image when looking across the windshield to turn right.

18 Windshield problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/12/2010

My sunvisor on the driver's side is floppy. There was no misuse, I was moving it to the windshield position and it became floppy for no probable reason. This is a serious issue. It causes distraction, obstructs vision and requires a hand to be removed from the steering wheel to keep it out of the way.

19 Windshield problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

Driver's side sun visor will not remain in place and obstructs the driver's view. It started to sag just a little a few months ago, and now will not stay up. I have to push it forward and it will stay pushed against the windshield for now. If it fails any further it will obstruct my view entirely.

20 Windshield problem of the 2007 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/28/2010

While driving both visors above windshield fall, obstructing drivers view and causing distraction. I have a 2007 Hyundai Sonata and had the drivers side visor replaced twice and the drivers side visor is going to be replaced today for the 3rd time. I nearly went off interstate when visor fell down, due to the distraction caused. My Hyundai dealer informed me this is a very common problem and they have been keeping visors in stock. My dealer did not have an answer as to what, if anything, is being done to correct the root cause of the problem. I find it disturbing that through doing a search on the internet for "Hyundai visor problems", there are others experiencing the same problem and there does not seem to be a permanent solution offered. This could potentially result in injury, or loss of life, not only in my vehicle, but in other vehicles indirectly involved in an accident as a result of the problem mentioned.

21 Windshield problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 09/15/2009

My driver-side sun visor in my 2006 Hyundai Sonata began hanging lower and lower until eventually it would neither stay up against the roof of the car or out toward the windshield. The visor now only hangs down, which obstructs my view when driving.

22 Windshield problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 07/07/2009

My Hyundai sonota's driver's side car visor is broken and does not stay in an upright position. This blocks the view while looking forward or creates a blind spot to the left when visor is turned down to be able to see the windshield/road. I've had the car less than a year and it has 36k miles (bought it when it had 16kmiles).

23 Windshield problem of the 2004 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/21/2009

The contact owns a 2004 Hyundai Sonata. While driving 15 mph, the rearview mirror fell off the windshield. The dealer stated that the windshield delaminated, which meant that the glass was no longer able to hold the mirror in place. The insurance company had to replace the entire windshield. The contact believes there is a defect in the windshield because the vehicle was hardly in any heat and no objects struck the windshield. The current and failure mileages were 115,000. Updated 07/10/09. The windshield was replaced on June 25, 2009. Updated 07/10/09.

24 Windshield problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 05/15/2009

Both sun visors in my 2006 Hyundai Sonata broke without warning. They both flop down and won't stay up. I took them apart and found that the plastic friction-sleeve around the metal hanger has broken on each one. The flopped-down visors restrict the driver's vision and their mid-way position between the windshield and the interior of the vehicle makes re-focusing one's eyes between the outside and the inside of the car problematic. My car is out of warranty so I have not had the visors replaced. Instead, I put strips of velcro on the roof and on the visors to keep them up.

25 Windshield problem of the 2009 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/15/2009

The contact rented a 2009 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that the front windshield tint blocked 15% of the upper half of the window. While driving at night, the tint would obstruct 50% of the contacts view of the road. His view was extremely opaque due to the headlights on passing vehicles. The contact had to drive with his face extremely close to the windshield in order to see. Neither the manufacturer or dealer had been contacted regarding the failure. The failure and current mileages were unknown.

26 Windshield problem of the 2008 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 11/10/2008

Problem: visor, windshield, driver. Plastic sheath around metal bar, which is part of the visor position control mechanism, broke during normal use. This resulted in visor not staying in position set by driver. Visor will drop down unexpectedly and partially obstruct driver's visual field and distract driver's attention.

27 Windshield problem of the 2006 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 06/15/2008

1. Events leading up to the failure: common use of rotating the sun visor up and down to block the sun. 2. The failure: the visor fails to stay in place and hangs down "free-swinging" obstructiong between 25% and 45% of the drivers view depending on height of the driver. In my case- the visor hanging down distracts 40% of my view through my windshield and I am 5'10". If left in its current condition, it is going to play a major part in vehicle accidents. This is a common problem among Sonata's for 2006. My dealership even admitted to it when I went in to see about getting it repaired 3 years ago. 3. Correction of failure- unhinge the visor and shove it into the bracket backwards hoping that it doesn't fall, but usually does on any sort of aggressive braking or accelorating. The dealership told me it would cost over $300 to repair. This happened over 3 years ago. This is a major safety hazard that is going to play a major factor in wrecks. You can find other complaints all over the internet and nothing done about it. I can provide pictures to establish evidence of the problem.

29 Windshield problem of the 2003 Hyundai Sonata

Failure Date: 02/17/2004

About February 2004, two months after I bought my car the windshield seal poped up from the bottom of drivers side. Dealership placed a new windshield and sealed it back. A month later the seal came off again on the same side. I went back, this time they just resealed it. Then, my sunroof began to leak, through the ceiling lights, I went back again, they looked it up saying its nothing-vents needs to be cleared up. After that procedure my windshield began to leak!now after each time it rains, inside of my car accumulates water-my radio/cd buttons failed to work anymore, plus the interior starts to get ruined by water spots. Its a problem to me , not only because I'm leasing the car, but 'cause it takes away my millage going back and forth to fix it, plus my time. Ps. I have a slight problem, at the time of purchising the car, dealership told me it was leased to one owner (year before me), but I went to carfax. Com and found out it was not only leased to two other people, but it was used as a rental car at the very beginning. If I had known those facts as I was buying the car, I would have never signed papers for it. When I got back to the dealers with this information, they told me it wasnt a big deal and that nothing could be done about it. I personaly do not like to fix problems on this "new" car of mine, after other people might have been responsible for them. Thank you for your time, I hope to hear back from you soon.
