3 Clutch Broken problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 02/01/2013

My 2007 Tiburon now sits inoperative needing a replacement clutch at 56,000 miles. Hyundai is not honoring their 100,000 mile / 10 year warranty. Their response is let us look at it. If you look on the internet, most peoples' Tiburon's begin having clutch problems even earlier than mine. People across the nation (many, read comments online by typing in Tiburon clutch problem). People across the nation are being told they do not know how to drive a clutch, and also many people say after replacing the clutch to remove the clutch slave cylinder delay valve and spring and the clutch will operate better. Many online agreed with that. I have e-mails that show my conversations with Hyundai in which hyundau says they will honor the 1000,000 mile / 10 year warranty if the clutch appears to have the wear of a 1 year old clutch. Noone can possibly meet that condition, and online you will see hundreds of complaints about the Tiburon clutchs failing early, and with the exception of one person the driver is blamed. If you give me an e-mail address I will send you all there e-mails to prove what I am telling you. Are you my salvation, or is small claims court the answer? what do I do to not have them blame me and then "repair" to original specs with the original clutch type, as many people online that did this have had a second failure about 20,000 to 40,000 miles later. The conformity of peoples story concerning Hyundais response tells me it is a standardized response. I need them to cover for an upgraded clutch (the aftermarket clutches are said to be superior) and I need a repair person who will agree to not reinstall the clutch slave cylinder delay valve and spring, which Hyundai will probably not do. With this remaining as part of the clutch, all the mechanics online said the problem will repeat.

4 Clutch Broken problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/11/2012

I am the sole driver of a 2007 Tiburon se. Two years ago, with only 25,685 miles on it, the car had clutch failure, was jerking when going into 1st gear, and not gliding when switching through the other gears. I took it to a dealership week and was told that they would have to take it down to the transmission which would take about 7 hours to do, and then there would be about a 10-30% chance that the problem would be due to driver error, in which case, I would be responsible for the cost of diagnosis (about $700) plus the repair. If the problem was deemed to be a defective part, then it would be covered under warranty. My first car in high school was a simca (stick shift). Then I drove a Toyota truck, then a Ford ranger truck, then a Ford mustang. All of which were stick shifts which I drove about 7 yrs each, and none of which ever had a clutch problem. To be told that I may have caused this problem by the way that I drive was somewhat insulting. Due to my persistence, the clutch was repaired under warranty. Now 2 yrs later, the same thing has happened again, and I am being told the same thing by Hyundai. I am 54 yrs old with over 40 yrs experiencing of driving cars with manual transmissions! now that I see that there are so many others with this issue, apparently, a class action suit was settled on the 2003 Tiburon clutches. They no longer make the Tiburon, perhaps there were just too many issues with them. Please help; this is happening to too many people and something needs to be done about it.

11 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/07/2009

Clutch failure during rush hour traffic almost caused several accidents while attempting to remove the car from the freeway. Had the car towed to my residence were it is currently sitting inoperable. Contacted the dealership and they informed me that they have not heard of any issues with the clutch in this year vehicle and I would have to pay $2300. 00 to have it replaced. Upon further investigation I found hundreds of other people with the same year car with the exact same problem, and to top it off I have also found a technical service bulletin released by Hyundai for defective clutch parts in the same year vehicle.

12 Clutch Broken problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 06/22/2009

The clutch assembly failed for the second time on my daughters 2007 Hyundai Tiburon. She bought the car used, with approximately 11,000 miles. The first clutch failed before 12,000 miles, and the dealer replaced it under warranty. The clutch has now failed for the second time, with 30,734 miles. Hyundai said it was not under warranty since it was a wear part, but they would provide the new parts as a goodwill gesture. I was to told that I would have to pay the labor cost of $720. 00 to the dealer. The poor design of the clutch, using a dual mass flywheel, a "pull" type pressure plate, and a metering valve in the slave cylinder all contribute to the premature failure of the clutches in these cars. Hyundai has made its position clear, that the failure of thousands of clutches on this line of cars must be due to "driver misuse", or "riding the clutch". According to Hyundai, they have no liability whatsoever for this faulty design. As many people are aware, there is a class action lawsuit over premature clutch failure in 2003 and now 2004 models of this car. The lawsuit seems to keep expanding with each new model year which uses this faulty design. Fortunately, the multiple clutch failures in my daughter's car did not cause an accident, but sudden and catastrophic loss of power on the highway is just an accident waiting to happen. We the Tiburon owners and their loved ones beg you to please force Hyundai to recall and repair these cars before someone is killed or maimed!.

16 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 01/15/2009

I believe there is a serious safety issue with Hyundai Tiburon 2003 clutches. My 2003 Hyundai Tiburon clutch and flywheel broke on 3 separate occasions since I bought it. At around 10,000 miles, at around 30,000 miles and at around 50,000 miles. Each time the Hyundai dealer told me it broke because I'm a poor driver, however this is just not true and it appears to also be a problem with everyone else who bought this model as well. I have joined the class action law suit against Hyundai for their defective clutches which was recently awarded money for which I am filing a claim form. However, I am contacting you now because I think this is a serious safety concern. I was on dangerous highways two of the three times this happened and was put in very precarious situations. The second time the clutch went out it just completely stopped working. The peddle went into the floor and I only barely had the momentum to carry me over a hill and glide to the side of the road, otherwise I would have been going backwards down the hill or stopped in the middle of a fast moving highway. Furthermore, this left me stranded in a very bad area of town for several hours waiting for the tow truck. Another time this happened, I was on an uphill curved interstate ramp which was bringing me to merge from the beltway to another interstate and instead of losing the clutch completely at once, I could just barely go 30mph (and deteriorating) and was trying to make it up the hill and merge as cars were zooming by me. While this clutch issue may not be as detrimental of a safety concern as for example brake failure, it still put me in a very scary situation. It seriously concerns me that Hyundai has not recalled these clutches, despite the fact that based on the recent settlement they are clearly defective and Hyundai knows they are defective.

17 Clutch Broken problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 11/24/2008

Clutch failure at 32,000 miles 2006 Hyundai Tiburon.

18 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/01/2008

I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt with a 6 speed manual transmission. The clutch has gone out twice in less than 60k miles. I've driven manuals my whole life and never had a clutch go out until this car. After researching this I've found that this car has an unbelievably high number of clutch failures. Hyundai even stopped making the original "factory" part and replaces it with a different part now but they won't admit there was a problem with the first one. Thanks, jon.

19 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 06/05/2006

I have experienced a clutch failure at 4500 mi and paid out of my own pocket to fix it. I am currently experiencing transmssion problems with my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon v6 6spd and I dont think Hyundai is willing to fix it under their "amazing" 100,000 mile warranty.

20 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/13/2005

I experienced my clutch failing at night on the way home this December. It was okay, then it went all the way to the floor. Hyundai USA was contacted and had been told that my bumper to bumper 100,000 extended warranty would cover the repair. The local dealer told me that it isn't covered. After battling between national and local I brought the car home and had a friend, experienced mechanic, replace what I had been told was the problem, the slave cylinder. It still has the same problem. Now, I have a fairly new car, I still can't drive. I have found several dozen consumers complaining of the same thing. TSB's have come out on this model and yet, I am getting the run around from the dealer and Hyundai USA.

21 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 08/01/2005

-4 transmission/clutch failures -defective brake line -defective wheel hub -defective wheel bearing and knuckle -many other dangerous defects -all were repaired, most were covered under warranty after much dispute -no old parts available, but all repair orders are.

22 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

2003 Hyundai Tiburon v6 6 speed early clutch failure.

23 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 07/29/2004

I have 2003 v6 Tiburon, clutch failed at 19,000 miles. I learned to drive on manual transmission, have driven 6 years and never any clutch problems until this car. Dealership blamed me stating "owner abuse". Had Hyundai regional rep come out and she also blamed me, and said there were no other complaints on 2003 Tiburons. Told her about this site and she said "OH well, that's from people who race their cars and abuse them, we're not taking responsibility for their problems that they've caused themselves". Dealership was great, they came down on cost of repair from $1700 to $1400. They replaced all parts with 2004 parts and I haven't had any other problems, even though I still drive the same as I always did, so how can it be "owner abuse" that caused the problem? if it was my fault then why hasn't it happened again? my mom bought 2004 5 speed Tiburon (she bought it before my problems started) and hasn't had any trouble at all. Seems Hyundai did realize there was a problem with 2003 clutch assembly and wouldn't ever admit it, but changed parts for 2004. They need to acknowledge this widespread problem and reimburse all owners that have paid out of pocket to repair something that was Hyundai's fault in the first place.

24 Clutch Broken problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/16/2003
