3 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 12/07/2018

Harmonic balancer shedded causing the camshaft to break stalling out while trying to enter a highway ramp. The car just stopped while partially on the highway and ramp to enter causing a close call from behind. A car was speeding up to enter the highway and had to lock up his breaks almost smashing into me at a very high speed the a truck nearly struck me on the highway and had to pull over to the shoulder to prevent crashing into me at 70 mph. I had no warning. No service engine light ever warned me of the problems with the car ,fore I would have serviced it immediately . I am not a mechanic but the computer maybe was not sending the correct codes to the warning indicators. This was a very serious problem I almost had a high speed crash with several vehicles causing serious injury or death. I did not take any pictures I was to shaken up and nobody stopped to exchange information. I then finally got the car to start and limped it of the highway and then home as I lived very close by. I immediately called the nearest Hyundai dealer and had my car towed there at my own expense . Then a few day's later the service dept. Called me and explained what had happened. They could not understand why no warning of any kind informed me of the danger. They did say it would cost me $1,200. 00 to fix the problem not to mention the cost of the tow $85. 00 . My car is at "red mccombs Hyundai n. W. 1366 ih-10 west san antonio,TX. 78249 " (844)218-7288 where it will set until the matter is dealt with. I have no money to pay for the fix . I am on disability and a senior citizen at 58 yr. 's of age and need my car to see my doctors.

4 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 03/05/2017

My Tiburon was fine a few days ago but recently started giving me problems when shifting gears while the car is in motion or shifting into reverse while the car is stopped. I did some research and found that this is a common issue with these cars and that it seems to be a faulty model of clutch. According to my research this is something that is a safety issue and has not yet been brought up by Hyundai for a factory recall.

5 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 08/27/2014

I bought the car and looked at the vehicle repair records and the clutch had been replaced about 12000 miles ago and I can push the clutch in and it is slipping horrible, I can push the clutch all the way down and it will slip and grind every gear as if I'm trying to shift without the clutch. I even stopped downshifting because it wouldn't go into gear without horribly grinding! I get so worried about it sometimes, that I almost wreck trying to keep my car in gear without breaking the trans, it is like learning how to drive a manual car again and I have driven one for a long time now.

6 Power Train problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 05/01/2014

I am the original owner of a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. I have had problems with my automaticd trunk release not work as well as my driver side power window not working. My car is not under warranty because it is 12 years old, however it only has 64,000. I have talked with other Tiburon owners who have and are experiencing the same problem. I see no recalls on my vehicle for this issue. My concern is we have been to several salvage places to look for a motor and the Tiburons which were on property all had the window motors sold already. This made me wonder if there have been other reports of this same issue I am having. My car will not pass inspection because of the power window issue. Are you aware of any issues.

7 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 10/09/2013

There have been multiple events, this is the second incident of this malfunction that it is being taken to the dealership in jasper, alabama. The first time I presented the vehicle to the dealership to be diagnosed the transmission was reset and it ran ok for a month, it was during this trip I was informed that since we were the second owner of the vehicle the warranty of 100,000 miles would not be honored. As I've researched this problem it seems to be a common acourance. I should not have to bare the brunt of a large repair bill for a tranmission or new computer brain. Since hynduai claims to have the best warranty in America as long as you are the first owner. I did not know about this situation until I read the small print. I was also concerned about the three questions that are asked in section two. It makes me think that something will be done only if someone is injured or killed!.

8 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 04/05/2013

I bought this 2007 Hyundai Tiburon in August of 2010 with 39,400 miles. I had to replace the clutch within 1,500 miles. I have no idea if that was the first replacement or not. At 62,100 miles I had to replace the clutch and flywheel again at a cost of $1,866. 00. I 'm 60 years old and have driven a manual transmission for over 40 years and never had a problem with a clutch before. With all the complaints against Hyundai for the failure of this part it is hard to believe they do not have to recall this model and replace these faulty clutches and flywheels.

9 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

I love my little tiberon. It has been the only new car I ever had or probably ever will have. I am over 50 years old and been driving a manual transmission forever. So when this clutch started to act up, I started to call in to the dealers. I could not believe it. Nothing under warranty and they wanted over $2000 to even start looking at it. Then they told me that if the flywheel was damaged it would be over $900 for the part alone. I have never heard of such a thing! and none of it was under warranty. Needless to say I started looking at trade in and blue book values. But I am attached to this cute little car that my dying husband loved to tease me about, so I took it to a mechanic I trusted. Result: the clutch is fine, still shows 50000 probably still available. Valves and connectors are fine. Flywheel is unscratched and smooth but totally broken. I have the part. I can show you. In the collar where the dual mass is connected it is fractured and snapped. Mechanic says there is no reason for the part to break there unless it was bad. After researching it he told me it was a major problem and the dual mass flywheel was poorly designed. There is no way I can afford a new dual mass flywheel. The shop said there was a lawsuit out there to help with repairs due to this defect but I don¿t know how to connect with it. I found where there is lots of information about the 2003 tiberon lawsuit. Do you know if there is a lawsuit regarding the 2007 tiberon flywheel? how can I get my name onto it?.

10 Power Train problem of the 2005 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 07/02/2012

I have had to replace my clutch, dual fly wheel entire clutch system 3 times now in the last 3 1/2 years. Each time costing me anywhere from $2400,- $3,400. No way should a clutch need replaced that much that soon, each clutch lasted approx 13 months. Hyundai wants nothing to do with the problem yet thousands of people are having same issues. Something needs to be looked at. Who can afford this much work every year? no one. I have spent close to $10,000 on 3 clutch jobs in 3 years. I'm taking it to bbb as well.

11 Power Train problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 05/26/2012

- the clutch is slipping - the motor for the passenger door window has failed and the driver side is failing. - the driver side interior door handle does not work, and the locking mechanism is failing.

12 Power Train problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 04/14/2012

This report is being filed by an accident reconstructionist at the request of the vehicle's insurance carrier. Vehicle was proceeding in the left lane of a 4-lane (2 lanes in each direction, divided by a double-yellow center-line) state highway when operator's airbag deployed for no apparent reason, causing loss of control. The vehicle then drifted leftward across center-line and both oncoming lanes, and came to rest after mounting the curb and colliding with a fire hydrant. Event was witnessed by two, separate, independent and involved motorists. Vehicle's owner was the only occupant and was injured. Owner purchased used vehicle in January, 2012 reported previous trouble with clutch, transmission, and that mileage at the time of incident is on known due to the for replacement of the operator's console, and was therefore estimated. Its speed at the time is also estimated at 40 mph, the posted speed limit.

13 Power Train problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 11/10/2011

The entire clutch system in my 2003 Hyundai Tiburon gt failed without any warning while shifting up a hill. My understanding is it was due to a faulty flywheel and clutch system which Hyundai has apparently known about since the model release. Even though there had been a class action lawsuit against them for this exact matter, Hyundai does not seem to think they are responsible for repairing it. This componant should absolutely be recalled and Hyundai held responsible for failing their customers and then charging upwards of $3000 to repair a problem that they know exists. Because the clutch system is solely responsible for the propulsion of the vehicle, having faulty ones on the road is an extreme hazard. Mine failed while shifting up a hill on a normally busy road. It was very fortunate there was light traffic that day and I had a parking lot close by to coast into. The way Hyundai is handling this issue is nothing short of theft, and a blatant disregard for public safety.

14 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/30/2010

I was in fairly heavy traffic traveling 65-70 mph and another car swerved in front after passing me (on the right) and when I went to apply brakes they went to the floor and the car started to accelerate. I again applied brakes and not only did they not work they also didn't disengage the cruise control. I started to panic and applied the clutch and tried to downshift. I had seconds to respond and a gap in traffic behind me so I needed to get over to right shoulder as quick as possible (I was in the left lane) I put the car in neutral and started to apply the hand-brake slowly at first. As I entered the right lane and neared the shoulder (out of traffic) I applied the hand brake as hard as I could and simultaneously turned off the ignition when the car had slowed enough. I should also mention that upon coming to a stop the check engine light was solid and stayed on even after shutting down and restarting the car. It remained on until I got the car to the nearest dealer. I'm ok and it could have been much worse (no damage to me or car) but the dealer who serviced the car told me they confirmed that the computer was sending erroneous codes to multiple systems at once. I have their report and the documentation on the software update they applied to the cars computer. They didn't replace the computer just the software! this could have been much worse in another situation. It was scary as hell and im still somewhat shaken. I'd rather be proactive about bringing attention to this than ignoring the incident and the fact remains that I have no idea if the new software patch that the dealer applied to the computer is able to protect my safety.

15 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 05/15/2010

2007 Hyundai Tiburon with 22k miles the clutch is not working properly and I have been told I may have to replace the clutch.

16 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 03/09/2009

I own a 2006 Hyundai tiberon bought it brand new it has 22,000 miles on it and the clutch and flywheel are shot. I've been driving standard for 13 years and have never had a problem with a clutch. I'm very disappointed in Hyundai for not replacing a bumper to bumper warranty which I have. A car that I've had for 2 years shouldn't have 2300 dollars of work and if it does it should be under warranty. And I am shocked to see the number of Hyundai's with the same problem. Hopefully something is done about this matter .

17 Power Train problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 04/17/2008

At 17,000 miles the clutch totally went out on my Hyundai Tiburon, mind you I bought the car brand new exactly 12 months ago. According to reports online, this is a common occurrence. Went to the dealer, and was told this was not covered, and had to pay for the exact same clutch to be installed, as there is no after market clutch available.

18 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 09/10/2006

Approximately one month after purchasing this car new (and less than 1000 miles on odometer), I started experiencing slipping in the clutch with severe lack of acceleration. The dealer replaced the clutch and flywheel under warranty, and state at that time that the had already performed similar repairs on that make/model. Now in August, 2012, (65,000 miles) the car has had a similar problem requiring replacement of the clutch and flywheel. Extreme lack of acceleration had made the car unsafe on a city street, let alone on a freeway. The mechanic has stated that he has never seen a flywheel scorched this badly. I have been driving standard transmission cars for 30 years, and have never had a transmission problem.

19 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 06/26/2006

After a couple months of owning my vehicle, my clutch went out. I took it back to the dealer and they told me that it was the way I was driving and that the clutch would not be covered in the warranty because it was a wear and tear issue and not a manufacturing defect. So I had to pay to get a new clutch and flywheel installed. Now after about 5 years, my clutch went out again. After this time however, I decided to do some research and was appalled at how this problem has affected so many people. Something needs to be done about this.

21 Power Train problem of the 2006 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 04/29/2006

I have a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon v6 5-speed. The manual transmission broke at 49,000 miles - not just the clutch, but all the major components of the transmission. This is a very common problem with this model - there has already been a class action law suit involving this model, but earlier years (03-04 - same car as the 06). Hyundai will not fix the problem and has not recalled the vehicles.

22 Power Train problem of the 2003 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 11/28/2005

Clutch and flywheel in my 03 Tiburon, v6 burned out after less than 30,000 miles and they won't cover it under warranty. Checked around and it's a manufacturing defect.

23 Power Train problem of the 1999 Hyundai Tiburon

Failure Date: 06/09/2000

While driving at various speeds the transmission would down shift from high gear to lower gear and then lock up. The vehicle would jerk forward and remain in the lowest gear when this happened. The wheel would lock up just prior to being release. The vehicle has been to the dealer who changed the speed sensors 3 months before the transmission was replaced. The speed sensor was replaced 2 times. The pulse generator was replaced a total of 4 times. The thermostat has also been replaced. Also there was a tire label replacement. Stopper and elr seat belt was installed. Blade fuse and wire repairs. Hood latch cleaned. Dealership most recently found the transmission had internal problems and replaced the transmission and flushed the cooler lines.
