The seat belt did not restrain the daughter in the seat, causing her chest to strike the steering wheel and her head to strike the front windshield. Additionally, the air bags did not deploy upon impact. The daughter received medical attention for a fractured sternum and bruising of the lungs. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow yard and was not yet deemed totaled by the insurance company. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the failure was caused by excessive force upon braking. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000. The VIN was unavailable.
