I was driving on a city street. My vehicle started making a loud noise, and in the middle of the intersection that included a freeway exit, I heard a clank and the car would no longer move forward. I checked to make sure I was in gear, but the engine raced, and the car would not move. I was partially in the lane of traffic. This was especially dangerous, as I was in the path of cars coming off the freeway ramp. (having it disengage while driving would be a safety issue anywhere. ) those cars had limited sight distance, and had to swerve to miss my vehicle. I had the car towed to a repair shop. I was initially told that the dual clutch had disengaged and failed while I was driving. During the repair process, the mechanic also found the transmission and flywheel to be damaged or faulty. The mechanic noted that he thought, because of the recent model year, that the dual clutch assembly would be a special order part, but was told that had at least ten in stock because the original part was poorly designed and manufactured. The replacement part had been redesigned.
I have done a significant amount of research and found that the Hyundai Tucson has three potential problems that cause the issues with the stalling/low power on takeoff. I believe that part of it might be the transmission not engaging properly in 1st gear and that should be something they can fix with a computer update. The second from what I've read is that the fuel tank has a material flaking off on the inside of the fuel tank causing the fuel filter to be damaged/clogged. The third and from what I have read, the reason some of the Tucsons fail is a bad crank shaft. My guess is that the bad crank shaft happens over time and that the problems start with the fuel clogs. The fuel system needs to be examined to ensure that the "flaking off" material defect inside the tank is not the cause of the fuel filter being clogged and eventually the car fails. The loss of power is scary and dangerous and must be resolved. Wouldn't it be cheaper if Hyundai replaced all the fuel tanks on the cars with one that doesn't have a defective material coated on the inside of them rather than replace motors and keep doing work on them over and over and over?.
B. The dct transmission completely disengages and there is no power to the vehicle, it just coasts for about 5 seconds and the vehicles slows down. It seems to happen after a turn and at slower speeds around 25 - 35 mph. You push the gas pedal and nothing happens, the engine does not rev and you just coast (and slow down). If this happens when I'm pulling out in traffic making a left it could be deadly. I do not let my 19 year old son drive this vehicle. I promise you there will be accidents due to this defect and I would imagine some people will die because of it. This happens regularly, it is not a one-time incident. I just bought the vehicle a month ago and it's happened 10 to 20 times.
Taking off from a stop the transmission will not engage and causes the motor to shutter. Then it will go into hit at a high rpm causing you to jump forward at a high rate of speed.
The transmission does not consistently engage particularly from a stopped position. I almost had an accident when coming out of a parking lot onto a 4 lane road, I was turning left. There was plenty of time to make it but the transmission failed to engage. The car rolled out onto the road because I was on a small incline and nearly got hit by traffic as the engine struggled to engage. Hyundai is aware of this problem but according to them that's how the car is supposed to work. It is a potentially dangerous flaw that they are well aware of an no longer use this system in 2019 Tucson. They know it's a flaw and refuse to do anything to assist.
While driving the Hyundai Tucson at times the automatic transmission does not engage to the next gear. We were driving on the freeway and went to make a lane change as a result of the transmission not engaging properly we were almost hit by a big rig. We have taken it to the Hyundai dealer we bought it from but they keep trying to tell us it is the way my son drives. But the problem is that it also happens when my daughter-in-law is driving. My sons drives with two feet and my daugher-in-law drives normally. To give you an example last Friday my daughter-in-law drove me to the doctors. We traveled about 20. 5 miles round trip and in the time the transmission did it nine times. I feel this is a safety hazard. I have complained to the hyundia corp but all they have done so far is to open a case number for my complaint(#11611806).
After a stop, initiating a left or right turn, the vehicle does not accelerate, the tachometer races, but there is no engagement. After a long pause, the transmission engages and the car jerks forward. The problem is intermittent, occurring at least twice a week for more than a year. Hyundai service denied there was a problem on multiple visits before finally admitting the dual clutch was faulty. Clutch replaced, problem persists, and they claim there is nothing further they can do.
The transmission does not engage or delays to engage in low gears. The problem is very prevalent under hot temperatures changes in inlines. Most often the issue occurs off the line and when merging into traffic. . Read more...
