1 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2025

For the second time in a year, I was pulling into a parking space and when I applied the brake, the car accelerated, seemed to be airborne and lurched forward. Though I firmly had my foot on the break, it would not stop until it hit a brick post about three feet away. This exact same scenario happened in July of last year. Then, I hit a stand of shrubs. Someone said, your foot must have slipped off the break and hit the accelerator. I said, “I don’t think so. ” yet, I took the blame for the accident, for I could not believe it was a car malfunction, nothing close to this had happened to me since I owned the car. Everything was the same in the last crash as in the first. This time, as soon as the car accelerated, I checked, and my foot was firmly on the break. There is definitely a malfunction in the car. The black. Box should be recovered and read by someone not associated with Hyundai. I checked on Hyundai Tucson owners’ group on facebook, and my incident has been reported by others.

2 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2024

While driving my 2023 Hyundai Tucson phev with limited trim the emergency braking function activated for no reason at all. This has happened 5 times during the last 9 months and each time it was about the same conditions. Road was dry my speed was from 55 to 75 mph it was during daytime hours and no cars were in front of me or on either side of me. 3 of the times there was a car behind me that had to check up I guess because my brake lights came on. I reported the problem to the dealer and was told no other owner has ever reported than problem. Instead of preventing an accident the activation of the emergency braking system in this situation could have caused an accident with the cars around me reacting to my sudden braking at high-speed resulting in a chain reaction.

3 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 10/12/2024

I was driving on a highway at 75 mph, on a clear day, with perfect visibility and driving conditions and my automatic emergency braking engaged. I was on cruise control with no one in front of me for approximately half a mile. There were cars behind me, so I had to swerve into another lane to avoid being rear ended. There was a sequence of beeps. If there were warning lights or messages, I was too busy dodging to see them. There may have been a squiggly line that came up, but I am unsure.

4 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2024

Automatic emergency braking deployed without any external threat. I was driving 55 mph on the freeway and the automatic emergency braking engaged. The dash lights flashes, there was an audible alarm and the car braked. There was no danger in front of the vehicle and this action put me at risk of being hit from the rear by the car behind me. My safety was put at risk as my acceleration was greatly diminished compared to the traffic around me. There was no warning of the problem prior to the failure. It has not been confirmed by the dealer.

5 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 08/04/2024

2023 tuscon limited gas - multiple instances on vehicle forward collision warning system activating with alarms noted but no activation of emergency braking while sitting at stop light with cars in front and back that are not moving. Radio system going to show surround view and in some cases only front view even though at stop light. Biggest issue this weekend while taking a curve while merging onto another freeway the emergency braking system activated for no reason. First time occurrence. No one beside me or in front of me for some distance but did have someone behind me. It was a quick activation of the brakes and then release, I would say 1-2 second engagement. If had been longer and brought me to stop would of been an accident. I am taking the car to westlake Hyundai to investigate this week and will report. Also having dealer investigate premature driver seat excessive wear. Car has 15. 5k miles on it. I am concerned as this car is exhibiting same issues that my wife's 2018 tuscon had that ended-up being successfully lemon lawed. I am also seeing way to many similar complaints and Hyundai needs to figure out what is going on with their emergency front collision sensing system and issue a fix or recall.

6 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 05/02/2024

The abs, ! brake and auto hold lights activated. I took in into the Hyundai joplin, mo dealership on may 2, 2024. They could not find any thrown codes and suggested it was most likely the "ieb module" which they replaced and after doing so, the warning lights remained activated. As of may 22, 2024, they are ordering a new ieb module to install (backordered into June). This seems oddly similar to previous abs and brake problems of earlier models and makes me feel uneasy with the safety of this vehicle should they ever get it remedied.

7 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 04/16/2024

While driving 35mph on a 3-lane street in the far left lane, a driver of a Ford f-150 was in the center lane about two car lengths ahead, decided to make a right turn onto a residential street (as if he were driving a semi). As I got closer, the forward collision warning suddenly alerted and immediately initiated emergency braking system causing all 3 passengers to be thrown forward. I hit the steering wheel before seat belt caught me. I was not even within distance and he was turning in opposite direction of my lane. There also seems to be sensitivity issues with lane keeping feature as in phoenix, there are never ending freeway construction with make-shift lanes not always marked well. On several occasions the steering wheel was jerked out of my hands because it couldn’t detect the lanes any longer. It has caused me to avoid freeways all together and has made me miss the exit off the freeway twice now. I thought this feature only activated during active cruise control, but apparently it does it regardless. Now I’m beginning to have problems with display going out at the worst times. I will be taking my Tucson to a dealer to have them deactivate both systems & advise of display. I shouldn’t have to pay for this. I’ll take over the driving, thank you very much!.

8 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 01/21/2024

The car suddenly and unintentionally accelerated. To avoid going through the back of my garage, I turned slightly and hit the frame of the garage. It continued to accelerate for a few seconds until I managed to stop it. I then backed up. Again, the car suddenly unintentionally accelerated. I managed to stop it. I slowly drove it into the garage. I left it in the garage until having it towed to planet Hyundai. I did not want to drive it in case it accelerated on the drive to planet Hyundai. I was driving about 5 mph when I hit the frame of the garage. The car continued to accelerate. Automatic emergency breaking and forward collision warning. The vehicle has been inspected by the manufacturer. The inspector or the dealer could not reproduce the problem. The vehicle can be inspected. The vehicle has been parked at planet Hyundai from 1/29/2024 to 4/15/2024 I reported the incident to Hyundai USA. I have not received any inspection reports.

9 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 12/30/2023

I was driving on the freeway and suddenly the auto emergency breaking auto system activated. However there were no cars ahead of me, the road was completely clear. I was driving within the speed limit. Thankfully there were no cars behind me; otherwise this could've ended very badly. I pressed on the accelerator multiple times and the emergency breaking disengaged. Since I was driving I did not want to get distracted by figuring out how to disable auto assist. But the next time I got into my car I am went into the dashboard system to turn off auto emergency braking and set it only to provide warning notifications. It was not that easy to do. I had to google it and look at multiple user forums to figure out how to turn off auto emergency breaking in the dashboard.

On multiple occasions, my new Hyundai Tucson randomly deployed emergency brakes while traveling on highway. This created a dangerous condition as my vehicle started braking without reason which prompted vehicle following my vehicle to slam on their brakes.

15 Automatic Emergency Braking problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2022

Twice in the past two months, I have been driving down the highway going 70 mph with no car in close proximity to the front of me and the automatic emergency braking has activated, suddenly braking for no reason. In the first instance, there was a car in the lane to the left of me, and the second time cars on both sides of me. But in neither instance was a vehicle close to them front of my vehicle. The second time the car felt like it was going into a skid when the braking activated. I took the car to the dealer (irwin Hyundai) the first time and they told me the sensors on the car were not properly calibrated when the new car was delivered to me. When I called irwin’s today after it happened a second time, I was told the car was “functioning as designed” but they would look at it. I am scared to drive the car at this point given that the brakes randomly were activated while at high speeds and without any basis for activation.
