Our 2023 Hyundai Tucson hybrid developed an issue with the forward radar. At speed, the car produces a warning ding and then a warning message is displayed stating, "critical forward safety functions are limited. Radar blocked. " if the adaptive cruise control is engaged at the time of the warning, it immediately disengages, forcing the driver to quickly respond. If there is a vehicle in the adjacent lane to the right, the automatic braking may at times activate. It happens rain or shine, in good or inclement weather. We have cleaned the areas of the sensors without effect. One dealership has evaluated the vehicle twice and a second dealership once but we have been informed that there was no defect identified. I believe this issue to be a serious safety defect.

Driving interstate right lane cruise control set at 73 mph. Car in front of me proceeded to leave lane to the left in order to pass 18 wheeler in front of it. Noticed my car felt different at that time and looked at dashboard to see cruise control now set to 110 mph and speed almost 90 mph. Documented with photo. Disabled cruise with breaking. Shared this on Tucson forums reddit and Hyundai forums with confirmation that this has and is happening.

While driving on the highway going up a 6% grade incline, the car stopped accelerating and car engine stalled out. There were no previous warning signs or indications of engine problems prior to this incident. There was no light that alarmed any defect to the car. The car had always driven smoothly. I maintained proper maintenance and regular oil changes. The car only had 65,000 miles on it. The safety of my passengers were at risk due to stalling out on the highway, luckily there was no harm to myself or others on the road. The dealership confirmed that the engine will need to be replaced. The engine has not been inspected by the manufacture. Unfortunately, due to a rebuilt title was declined warranty coverage. The title was rebuilt due to hail damage, no crash or flood damage.

When the vehicle was started the srs light remained illuminated and when driving the vehicle over 40 mph the abs, traction control, collision avoidance, and start-stop lights on the instrument cluster come on and remained on. The adaptive cruise control, nor the button for the start-stop deactivation work. The vehicle has just over 500 miles on the vehicle and is less than a week old.
Vehicle randomly keeps accelerating past the set speed when cruise control is set. Problem was first noticed in March. Have a video of the cruise set at 69 mph and the vehicle continued to accelerate to 87 mph before I disengaged it. Vehicle has been to two different Hyundai dealers for the issue but were unable to duplicate or find the issue. One moth ago were on a road trip and the cruise would accelerate to 8-10mph over the set speed on the cruise control especially after cresting a hill ,then the adaptive cruise control would brake hard when approaching another vehicle. 0.
Driving on highway long distance on sunny days the radar becomes blocked disabling critical forward safety functions and cruise control. Numerous times this has caused a near collision due to the automobile malfunctioning. Many times my cruise control has just stopped working and my vehicle has rapidly decreasing speed, causing people behind me to have to slam on their brakes. My vehicle has also automatically braked on the highway when there was no one in front of me. These are just two incidences that have nearly resulted in collisions on the highway. This has been occurring since I purchased the vehicle in September 2022. Unfortunately, dealership has not been able to duplicate what has occurred.
My car was doing a shocking change of speed all of a sudden, for example I would be driving and accelerating, but the car would not speed above 40mph, and while I was still pressing on the accelerator, it would do like a shocking movement and accelerate all of sudden. Yesterday, December 8th, 2022, I was driving on the highway on the 3rd lane and while driving the call did a shocking jump and all of a sudden the speed went down to 20mph, I panic of course because all the cars where going fast, it was a nightmare for me to change lanes because I couldnt manipulate the speed of my car.

It happened on two different occasions but only when driving at high speed using the cruise control. Here is what happened. Driving on the cruise control I “set” it to 70 mph. Driving on the two lane highway with both lanes blocked by other vehicles, I pressed the “brake” pedal. The car slowed down and I continued driving at a lower speed. When traffic in front of me cleared, I pressed the “resume” button on cruise control. With no obstacles in front of me, my car was supposed to accelerate to the previously set speed of 70 mph. Instead, it was slowing down. When pressing the gas pedal the car was not accelerating. It felt like the car “lost power. ” it felt like the automatic transmission shifted to a neutral or may be the lowest gear. Pushing the gas pedal did not do anything and on both occasions I managed to steer the car to a road shoulder. It was a scary situation with heavy fast moving traffic on a narrow mountain highway. I stopped the car, then tried to go again. It would go very slow on, what felt like, the lowest gear without acceleration. I then stopped the car again and turned off the engine. Turning the ignition off resets the electronics and I was able to get back on the road. The car continued to drive normally on cruise control until the same happened again the next day. As I said, it happened on two different occasions. From there on I avoided pushing the “resume” button on cruise control and I am afraid of using it from now on to avoid potential accidents. I consider this to be a life threatening malfunction and I reported it to Hyundai’s customer care. They opened the case number and suggested going to the nearest dealer. I took the car to the nearest dealer. They kept it for several days, drove 40 miles and, as I expected, were not able to replicate the problem. In my opinion, this problem needs to be analyzed by the engineers not a dealership's technician. Is speed a factor? is temperature a factor? what is the factor?.
