Hyundai Tucson owners have reported 94 problems related to automatic emergency braking (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Tucson based on all problems reported for the Tucson.
On numerous occasions (over 20) the forward collision system just slams on the brakes to a full stop, there was nothing close enough to vehicle to cause this issue. Sometimes it’s caused by rain or wind, sometimes for no apparent reasons. One time it caused a no damage accident as person behind me tapped my bumper. In traffic it is set off often with nothing within a safe distance away. There was no obstacles or sudden movements from other vehicles around me. I have brought the car back too Hyundai 3 times only to tell me either a dumb excuse or nothing is wrong with vehicle. I have seen on forums there are a lot of incidents with this particular car we have serviced the vehichle 3 different times over this issue and were told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle accident happened in summer so I will say there was a crash in additional details but last date occurrence of automatic stop was this morning.
I was driving on the road this morning approx. 25 mph (clear road, no rain, snow etc. ) the car came to a full abrupt stop. Collusion/warning notification never came on (there was nothing in front of me) seatbelt locked. Car would not move. I put the car in park and had to turn the car off and back on to get the car to move. This honestly scared the life out of me. I had several cars behind me that could of rear ended my car and caused serious harm to myself or other drivers. I called the dealership (will be dropping off this evening) but they made it very clear that if they can not duplicate the problem there is nothing that they can do. The car has 8,000 miles on it and was purchased in April 2025.
At high speeds above 40 mph vehicle automatically brakes with no vehicle or objects in front while vehicle is in operation. Very concerning when driving on interstate.

Multiple times my vehicle has come to a complete stop unwarranted. There have been multiple instances of the automatic braking triggering on michigan left hand turns with no traffic oncoming. This was reported to the dealer and they found no issue, however it has happened again since. The vehicle has also multiple times come to a full stop in heavy traffic when I was already braking and a full stop was unnecessary. There were two instances from this where I was very nearly rear ended, including on the expressway. There were no warnings that the system was malfunctioning.
While driving at speed in heavy traffic, I quickly merged from the right lane to the left lane to avoid an obstacle. My vehicle and the new vehicle in front of me (in the left lane) were traveling at approximately the same speed, although there was an admittedly small (one half car length) distance between us. My forward collision assist inaccurately identified this new vehicle in front of me as a sudden danger that I was going to hit. It immediately applied full braking power and played the forward collision alert sound. This aggressive and unexpected stop spilled and broke items in my car as they slid, roughly strained me against my seat belt, and caused the vehicle behind me to aggressively brake. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided, only due to the fast reaction of the driver behind me. This aggressive and dangerous forward assist and emergency braking can only be temporarily disabled for one drive, and resets every time the vehicle is turned on. I have not had my vehicle inspected for this issue, but communities on the internet have confirmed that this is a common problem.
I was driving on a highway in the largest city in the world and while vehicle merging into my vehicle, Hyundai Tucson automatically and abruptly engaged emergency forward collision. There was absolutely not necessary. All loose items in vehicle went flying inside of my car. My body went forward as well as my passengers. Luckily I was not rear ended in an accident. This is the third incident of the vehicle automatically engaging safety features which actually does the opposite and is a hazard, since I bought the car in Feb 2025. There is no way to permanently disable these features. A driver not being in control of their car is a huge liability on the road. This vehicle must be recalled to disable this feature. Perhaps in a rural area somewhere in the world with no other cars around , this wouldn’t be an issue. Large cities with vehicular and pedestrian traffic it is a danger.
Under two occasions I was driving on the highway at a safe distance from the car in front of me and my car emergency braking system triggered and went off and caused my car to stop in the middle of the highway. This caused a collision behind me. There was no reason on either occasion for the braking to bring the car to a hault.
At least 5 times now when no car was breaking extremely close to me or when I gently touched the breaks the automatic emergency breaking kicked in and slammed the car to a stop. Twice the car behind me had to swerve out of the way and hit another car causing 2 accidents without my car being involved. Once it caused me to hit my head on the steering wheel. This function is more destructive and dangerous than helpful. At no time should my car go from 70 to 0 in a second for no reason, but with this it does. Got the car in the March 2025 so 5 times in 7 months.
9/26/25. Friday late afternoon at 5pm. Driving on the southern state parkway in stop and go traffic…. The traffic opens up and we start driving to about 10 mph, with no emergency present and the car did an emergency stop on it’s own. Frightening experience…it’s amazing we didn’t get rear-ended. This is the third time this happened, but I only documented this time.
The computer(s) responsible for many of the safety systems have faulty software. The computer vision system incorrectly assess condition of the roadway and issues warnings that obscure the instrument cluster. The computer vision system also incorrectly determines that a collision is imminent (despite no obstacles being present) and activates the braking system. Hyundai has been aware of this issue since 2022 and has previously released a software patch to correct it. However, unpatched vehicles are still being sold (and resold) by Hyundai dealerships without being fixed because Hyundai has chosen to rescind the availability of the update. Unpatched vehicles are on the road preventing drivers from properly monitoring vehicle operation as a result of the continuous warning obscuring the cluster and are jeopardizing the occupants and other road users when the vehicles spontaneously initiate panic stops for phantom obstacles. Hyundai refuses requests to provide the existing update files because a future update with an uncertain release date is planned; release of the "upcoming" update has seemingly already been delayed 8 months.

My car stopped due to the emergency braking system when a car slowed down in front of me. There was no danger of me hitting them, we were in a turning lane proceeding slowly through a green light. My car stopped and wouldn't start moving again for more time than the person behind me would have expected. This isn't the first time, but it's my first time reporting it. I'm worried that I'm going to be hit by another car at some point.
This is a very real safety concern. On multiple occasions, the automatic emergency braking (forward collision avoidance assist) feature of my 2025 Tucson hybrid was activated in a completely unnecessary situation, endangering myself and drivers following behind me. If a car in front of me brakes suddenly, or a car merges quickly into my lane, which happens all the time as everyone has experienced, my car takes it upon itself to fully slam on the brakes without warning. Each time, it was in a situation where I could have easily slowed the car down incrementally so as to not put drivers behind me at risk of rear-ending my car. This feature can be temporarily disabled in settings, but it automatically reactivates when the car is turned off then back on. This is a crash waiting to happen and it is unsafe to drive in its current state unless the feature is turned off manually every single time I start up my car. At the very least, there must be a permanent way to turn of fca.
During a recent accident, the driver pressed the brakes but they did not respond, almost as if they locked up. Police at the scene noted there were no skid marks on the road, suggesting the brakes never engaged. The vehicle suffered major side impact damage, including broken windows and crushed passenger-side doors, but none of the airbags deployed. This raises serious concerns about a possible brake system failure and airbag non-deployment defect. The vehicle has not yet been repaired and is available for inspection. Police have reviewed the accident, and the insurance company has also seen the vehicle, but no mechanical inspection has been completed by the manufacturer. There were no warning lights or error messages prior to the failure. The safety of the driver and passengers was put at risk because the car could not be stopped and the airbags did not deploy to provide protection.
On two different occasions (the 2nd one happened today), the automatic emergency braking system has deployed. The first time, I was in the right lane and a car passing me in the left lane pulled in front of me. I softly applied my brakes as that was all that was required. The automatic braking system then slammed on the brakes unnecessarily - causing the car behind me to almost hit me. Then, today, I was driving down the road and the car ahead was taking a right turn. Again, I softly applied the brakes. Then - the automatic braking system slammed on the brakes. No one else was near by so it there was no accident - but if there had been a car behind me, it would have likely hit me. This is twice that the automatic braking system was activated unnecessarily and much too hard - almost causing an accident.
I was traveling on [xxx] in nashville. There was a motorcycle speed trap on the right shoulder so I moved over to the left. The car in front of me also moved to the left and my car slammed on the brakes and came to a complete stop on the highway. I was badly rear-ended causing $12,500 in damage. This has happened 2 other times to me since then. This seems to be a consistent problem with the 2025 Hyundai Tucson. I'm fixing my car and selling it as I don't feel safe. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Automatic brakes are deploying with no apparent hazard.
There are several electrical issues occurring that have put me in danger when driving. First the screen both on the windshield and the speedometer screen randomly go out completely and I have no idea how fast I am going or any other important features like how much gas my vehicle has, if the vehicle is over heating. The forward/ break feature has gone off multiple times and the vehicle has stopped in the middle of traffic and the freeway with zero warning and with several car lengths between me and the car in front of me. Almost hit from behind when this happens and has put the vehicle in park on the freeway. Steering wheel has jerked to the side when driving making the vehicle almost hit curbs and other vehicles. Has come back to my vehicle that is off and locked and the ac has been running causing the engine to be hot. All the warning lights have turned on and won't go off even after stopping and restarting the vehicle. The vehicle is currently at the dealership with them having to answer to the problem, stating Hyundai is aware of the issues but does not know how to fix it. I bought the car in April 2025 and there is just under 2800 miles on the vehicle.
Several times now the forward collision safety has activated and the car came to an abrupt stop. The car in front of me was braking and I was lightly tapping the brake pedal when out of nowhere the car started shuttering and came to a complete stop. This definitely scared me and I was relieved that the car behind me did not rear end me. I was not going fast by any means and I did not slam on the brakes as there was no need to. The forward collision is not a safety feature. This is a real problem and now I am scared of this braking design. I now deactivate this feature every time I turn the car on because there is no way to permanently dismantle this. Hyundai needs a recall to correct this.
While driving I noticed my abs, traction control, aeb, and a couple of other lights came on. Upon restarting my car it was still there but the lights went away on their own after a few minutes of driving. They have been periodically turning and and off as I've driven the past couple of days. I went to the local mechanic shop who performed a diagnostic and found it to be a faulty left rear wheel speed sensor. When researching online, I've come across many people with the same make, model, and year as my car that have experienced this issue.

Please see case 11675610 I have been told that this is for the same concerns I have my car is currently at the dealer for the third time to try and resolve this same issue dash will flash and go black for several seconds, when and if it comes back it will have all emergency lights on or flash no signal heads up display will also flash going blank this will be out for a longer period of time and is not always at the same time as the dash going out. When car is turned off after driving it will occasionally still show emergency lights on dash. Even after closing and reopening door, turning car back on and off safety concerns include but not limited to not seeing speedometer, safety lights and warnings.
The blind spot warning went off and locked all the brakes up. We were not able to move the vehicle and could not even pull off the road out of traffic. There is no way to disable the brakes when the computer or sensors are malfunctioning. We had to get the vehicle towed.
For the second time in a year, I was pulling into a parking space and when I applied the brake, the car accelerated, seemed to be airborne and lurched forward. Though I firmly had my foot on the break, it would not stop until it hit a brick post about three feet away. This exact same scenario happened in July of last year. Then, I hit a stand of shrubs. Someone said, your foot must have slipped off the break and hit the accelerator. I said, “I don’t think so. ” yet, I took the blame for the accident, for I could not believe it was a car malfunction, nothing close to this had happened to me since I owned the car. Everything was the same in the last crash as in the first. This time, as soon as the car accelerated, I checked, and my foot was firmly on the break. There is definitely a malfunction in the car. The black. Box should be recovered and read by someone not associated with Hyundai. I checked on Hyundai Tucson owners’ group on facebook, and my incident has been reported by others.

Driving through a green light, no car in front of me, collision avoidance activated and applied full brake. If a car had been close behind me I would have been rear ended.
If someone is making a right turn in front of me and I am on the brakes already slowing down the emergency braking will engage and lock the brakes to stop it it does not seem to detect the fact the car is making a turn that will be complete before you are up to them. This has happened 4 times now and I have almost been rear ended. I can duplicate it pretty much whenever I want and capture it on my dash cam.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving and attempting to slow down, the forward collision avoidance: automatic emergency braking system activated, bringing the vehicle to a complete stop in the middle of the roadway. The vehicle returned to normal functionality, but the failure became a regular occurrence. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who were unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, a case was opened, and the contact was referred to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 1,200.
The automatic braking has almost caused me to be rear-ended, and the enraged driver behind me leaned on his horn and flipped me off. Today, it caused a rear-end collision behind me because of the unwarranted abrupt locking of the brakes. I drove to the dealership and had them turn off this safety feature. It's very dangerous!.
No less than 6 times since leasing this vehicle the forward collision warning / automatic emergency braking has activated when it was not required as slow speed with vehicles behind me almost rear ending me. It is to the point where I no longer have confidence in using these systems and deactivate them when turning the car on. I have set the sensitivity to "late" to decrease the incidence of this happening, to no avail. I am not the only complaint about this. This vehicle is not safe to use with this feature and should be investigated and a recall issued. Vehicle is going in for service on 5/29 for this issue.
The emergency braking system slams on brakes prematurely when the car in front of me is 4 or more car lengths ahead which is causing the cars behind me to swerve to avoid rear ending me. The safety of the emergency braking is making the car more dangerous to me and other motorists.
Control screen keeps going randomly blank, for different periods of time, putting the driver at risk, because the vehicle information, including speed, lights, wipers, basically everything is displayed in this screen. Sometimes the sentence no signal shows up. I had experienced several scary situations, specially in freeways when raining, you have zero driving information. The car has been to the dealership service 4 times, with different tentatives of repair, none of which worked. The last time my car was at the dealership service for 25 days and after 2 days the problem was back, even worse. Sometimes all the lights of the control screen light up, with no reason and keep on even after the car is turned off. This is our only car and we need it, but the car is absolutely unsafe and unreliable. I refuse to leave the car for a 5th time, Hyundai has no idea what the issue is and obviously cannot fix it. The lane assist is also malfunctioning, sometimes the warning system doesn’t work properly. Twice the car emergency brakes stopped the car abruptly without a reason to do so (no risk of collision, no car or object in front ). One of those times the car behind me almost hit me, because the stop was abrupt and for no reason. I have many videos and pictures, but apparently I cannot upload the videos in this form. I have the paperwork, but Hyundai refused to refund for the vehicle. I highly recommend an investigation, Hyundai is getting away with a very serious problem and someone will get hurt as a result of these issues. Thank you for the attention.
Multiple owners of the 2025 Tucson hybrid limited awd have reported the same issue with the vehicle's "driver assistance warning" system. The system constantly beeps and, sometimes, takes control of the vehicle, slowing it down, and forcing the driver to pull over. This happened to my wife and me on our recent roundtrip from apache junction, az, to los angeles. In the middle of jam-packed, six-lane freeways with vehicles traveling at 70 mph or more the Tucson would beep-beep-beep and say "keep your eyes on the road. " but, of course, the driver's eyes were on the road. Then the system would take control and slow the car down to 30 mph or so, creating a terrifying and highly dangerous situation. And this is supposed to be a safey sytem. The system obviously was not properly tested in real-life road situations. Apparently, the height of the driver's eyes, their arm position while holding the wheel, whether they're wearing sunglasses . . . All sorts of factors seem to confuse the system and cause it to act when it should do nothing. I have turned off all the driver assistance warnings possible, but it makes no difference. And other drivers report having the same issues--unwarranted, dangerous reactions by the car that cannot be stopped by turning the driver assistance features off. Hyundai has failed in its duty to properly test its driver assistance features. The most rudimentary road testing would have revealed these issues, but Hyundai has put these vehicles on the market without the appropriate testing. Someone needs to do something about it.
At times, this vehicle will refuse to go. You will get an alert in the dash that the emergency braking system has engaged. It may be a door is not completely shut, or sometimes it's just that I don't have my seat belt on. It seems to be inconsistent, because I often times put my seat belt on after I finish backing out, and am ready to go forward. If there is any kind of incident that requires a fast escape, this "feature" could cost somebody their life, or cause them to deal with a carjacking. The car needs to go when I tell it to go.

Issue has happened twice now, about 2 months apart. Driving at highway speeds, 60-75 mph, no other cars around, no reason for braking or stopping, the emergency brake comes up for a few seconds, abruptly slowing the car down for no reason. Very scary as the car starts to slow down from a high speed, very jolting. I've complained to Hyundai but they claim they are not aware of the issue and there are no codes the vehicle puts out so they cant investigate further without replicating the issue, but its random and you don't know when its happening. I've looked online and it appears there are quite a bit of 2023/2024 Tucson's that are having the exact same issue I am.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving approximately 5 - 35 mph, the forward collision avoidance automatic emergency braking system activated and applied the brakes unintendedly. The contact stated that the forward collision avoidance message was displayed. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed and the contact was informed that no fault was found with the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 5,380.
The car slammed on it's brakes on the off ramp even though I had plenty of time to slow down. It came to a full stop before it let me accelerate again and I almost got rear ended.
All of a sudden my 2024 Tucson gages indicated emergency braking for about 1 to 3 seconds and the front end went down as though I was stopping (scared me ). I was so happy no one was behind me. No one really behind me or to my left. Only one car to the right of me in another lane. Also, had to replace air bag at 6176 miles.
