The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that the vehicle was stopped at a traffic light, while attempting to accelerate, the brakes engaged unexpectedly. On another occasion, while driving approximately 60 mph, the brakes unexpectedly engaged without driver input and failed to properly respond for approximately 5 to 10 seconds. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle resumed normal operation afterwards. The forward collision avoidance early detection sensor indicator was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer; however, the technician was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 14,946.

I was driving straight in the left most lane on an expressway, about to make a left turn on a green left turn arrow. The vehicle in front of me was making a u-turn. My Hyundai Tucson abruptly braked quite hard. I'm not sure what caused it but I'm guessing the vehicle making u-turn slowed down a bit before the u-turn and might have triggered a forward collision avoidance braking but I didn't feel like there was a need. This caused the vehicle right behind me to also abruptly brake and if they hadn't, they might have rear-ended my car. After making the left turn, the vehicle behind me angrily overtook me because they likely didn't know it was the car's system which did this.
On two occasions, the automatic emergency braking system engaged potentially causing an accident. The first occurred at an intersection where I was attempting to turn left from a stop. The system would not allow me to proceed until the bus attempting an opposite left turn left the intersection. The weather was clear and sunny. The second occurred while on a freeway onramp. There were no vehicles in front or to my side. The aeb detected a phantom threat and immediately braked to a stop. The car behind me was barely able to avoid rear ending my vehicle. My passenger was a witness to this jarring event. The weather was clear and sunny. Both incidents occurred with an odometer reading of <3500 miles. My local Hyundai dealer has attempted to recreate the phantom breaking, but were not able to recreate the circumstances and therefore not know what system required repair/replacement. The case #42211163 was assigned. Given the uncertainty of when the system will inadvertently break and the inability to permanently turn off aeb on this vehicle, I am very concerned about driving the vehicle.
The forward collision avoidance system in this generation of Hyundai Tucsons is dangerously flawed. We previously had a 2020 and no issues, but this one slams the brakes at the drop of a hat and has nearly caused several accidents as there is no good reason for the intervention (ample space to leading vehicle) and it brakes so hard that cars behind typically need to veer to avoid rear end collision. This is not a one-off event or linked to particular driver/driving style - both adult owners of this vehicle have experienced this on multiple unrelated occasions. All sensitivity setting have been set to minimum and the only way to drive with peace of mind is to completely disable the system - but here is where the next massive design flaw the system automatically reenables at each re-ignition; there is not permanent override, which is extremely dangerous. It is not practical to manually disable the system on each drive because you need to navigate multiple system menus to adjust the setting. Google and user forums confirm this collision avoidance system is a widely experienced and complained about safety issue for Hyundai and it should be investigated. People will likely get killed due to this “safety feature”. Ideally Hyundai should push a recalibration for those who want this feature and enable a permanent override option in the system settings for those who don’t.
I was driving on the highway with no one in front of me. The car suddenly slammed on the brakes and flashed "emergency breaking system" on my dash. My car went from about 75 mpg down to 50. The car behind me almost rear-ended me. He then proceeded to pass me and brake check me because he thought I had deliberately brake checked him. This incident caused the man behind me to get road rage and react dangerously to me. I hit the gas and it finally stopped breaking and let me gain speed up again. It was terrifying. This is not the first time this has happened but it was the first time in the highway. It has happened several times on side roads for no reason either. I have an appointment with Hyundai to figure out what they can do because I don't feel safe driving this car.

Hard braking first occurred on a major highway with no prior notice that this would happen in close call accidents. The cars traffic had to veer away from me in order to avoid hitting me. Another highway (95) incident was a 18 wheel semi that had to move to the shoulder and could have easily totaled my car and me. I then researched this and found I could delay the action be setting the forward collision-avoidance assist mode to "late". This helped in giving notice for some time, however the hard braking occurred again on a regular two lane small highway as I switched lanes, saw a car stopping suddenly and the brakes locked up. (this is the latest incident as dated below). There was no "late" warning, the brakes just locked up. Being in fear of my and my families life I did further research and found that I could disable "brake assist" and only get warnings - which is what should be the default - but, this must be done each time I start the car. If my wife drives and forgets to do this each time I now fear for her life!!! this is not a simple matter. It is unconscionable and horrible this type of control over basic transportation is allowed to exist. This must be addressed and corrected! I'm all in on helping make meaningful change to this issue.
Had just turned out onto a major road and started to accelerate. At approximately 30 mph forward collision system alerted and applied automatic emergency brakes even though the next car was several car lengths ahead of me and there was absolutely no risk of forward collision. The vehicle immediately behind me had to slam on their brakes to avoid rear ending me. Thankfully, this was coming out of school zone so their speed was not high. At regular street speeds this malfunction would have likely resulted in a crash with injury. During the time that the automatic brake system was activated I could not override. I used gas pedal but car would not accelerate until the system stopped, perhaps 2-3 seconds later. Car was purchased used within last month and had an inspection by seller then, but I am not aware of any inspection by manufacturer/ dealer.
The forward collision avoidance engaged when it was unnecessary and nearly caused me to be rear ended. It doesn't slow you down, it brings your vehicle to a complete stop and leaves you stuck unable to move for a few seconds. . . Just long enough for the person behind you to read end you. This is incredibly dangerous. I would speculate that this feature will result in many rear end wrecks and should be addressed expediently or Hyundai may risk a significant class action lawsuit.
The emergency breaking system automatically engages whenever it feels it wants to. It has become extremely dangerous to drive the vehicle on a daily basis. I have been in contact with Hyundai, Hyundai consumed affairs and have brought the vehicle back to two dealerships to see if they can duplicate the problem. They have been incredulous thus far and still I am left with the safety issue. I feel very scared to drive the vehicle. I am not sure what to do at this point because Hyundai said if they can’t duplicate the problem then the vehicle is working as designed but is it going to take a serious accident for this to be taken seriously. It has been happening since September 2025. Thank you.
Purchase my new car December 2026. My car has done that with people are calling phantom breaking three times since I bought the car within the first month and a half. I was doing [xxx] the first time and there was nothing there and it just dead stopped what if somebody had been behind me and I caused it big accident? it happened again when I was doing [xxx] and it just dead stopped with for no reason. I purchased this car because I have a concussion cuz my former car was totaled I feel like the safety feature is a safety hazard and I'm scared because I have a concussion and a neck injury that it's going to cause more damage. I have to click the button to stop the front assist so it doesn't happen. I took my car in to the shop where I bought it at bud clary in auburn and they said that there was nothing wrong with it that maybe my good to go pass was in the way which I didn't even have my good to go pass up yet at that time. I'm scared and I just bought this car. I wish I hadn't but then I see that Honda is having the same issue. They need to come up with a fix. They said that the calibrated it and it was fine that they made some dang excuse but it's scary and I'm afraid to even drive my car information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
I started to accelerate from a full-stop to turn left at arrow onto highway ramp and car's emergency brakes came on with a real jolt - almost rear-ended by semi behind me. So scary. So dangerous. Backache, now, too.
The automatic emergency braking system, I think it may be called (or is a part of) the forward collision avoidance system by Hyundai, triggered incorrectly while on interstate 265. My car was travelling at about 35 mph on the off ramp when the automatic emergency braking system triggered and cause my car to rapidly decelerate to a near standstill. The vehicle following behind me had to swerve into another lane to avoid hitting my car. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or service center. The component has not been inspected yet, but we will be bringing it to the dealer in the near future. There were not warnings or messages that this was about to happen other than the emergency sound and light when the automated emergency braking engaged. This has happened twice before on other roads and in other situations with this car.
I was driving down the highway going about 60-65mph with cruise control and lka on. I turned my blinker on to switch lanes, checked my blind spot, and moved over to the left. As I was doing so, a semi switched lanes from the left into the right (my new lane) right in front of me. The truck then slowed down a lot, and usually my forward collision warning would say something if my adaptive cruise control isn’t on (or is and I’m just going too fast to slow down) neither of those things happened. No warning. No automatic brakes. No slowing down. I tried to engage the brakes manually but nothing happened. I slammed into a semi at around 60mph because of 3 different system failures. Not only did I hit the semi at 60~mph, apparently my brakes didn’t work at all and I spun out until I hit the concrete barrier on the highway. If my brakes had engaged automatically, I could have slowed down enough to avoid the collision altogether. And if they had engaged manually I could have at least minimized the damage to my vehicle (and myself) because I wouldn’t have hit the concrete barrier as well.

Customer of Hyundai 4 years now. Issues with the forward collison-avoidance assist (fca) on my 2025 tuscan, malfunctioning, aggressively breaking, fantom breaking when absolutely no imminent collision will happen, causing other drivers to come within inches of a rear crash with me, also the same fantom breaking while parallel parking. The breaking causes me to be thrown towards my windshield. Made appointment with a Hyundai service they inspected on a diagnostic machine and no recommended "codes" were available after test was done, no repairs made they said my car is fine. Happened again within 2 blocks of service center please help.
During the winter, my car would activate the forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking while I was driving when there were no other vehicles in front of me or even around me. It happened several times over a few day timespan, at the time I thought it was because I had gotten a car wash when it was colder weather and maybe the water had affected the system but now I see that there is a recall for this same issue.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle experienced intermittent phantom braking; the vehicle violently and suddenly slammed on the brakes with no obstructions present, causing the contact to sustain shoulder and back pain on several occasions. The contact did not seek medical assistance. The contact stated that the failure had progressively worsened. Additionally, the contact stated that the standard Smart cruise control (scc) disengaged while driving. The contact stated that the failure had been intermittent, requiring the driver to manually re-engage the cruise control mode. There was no warning light illuminated. The dealer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 5,000.
The automatic brake system triggers when there is no obstacle. It has caused the car to stop suddenly in the middle of the road and almost become rear ended several times. We took it to the Hyundai service center and they said they’ve had complaints of this before but checked the system and don’t see any issues.
My wife was slowly pulling into a parking spot, when at about 10ft from curb the car suddenly accelerated faster than she even thought the car even was capable of (the awd likely helped). It hopped the curb and hit a tree. She backed it up to the parking spot (it acted normally) and had it towed to dealer. In hindsight, the car had been having a progressive amount and frequency of delay in normal acceleration, sometimes having a pause of up to second or two from pedal input to car response. We asked the dealer to check the edr (event data recorder). The tech first said he didn't even know what that was, then that he checked with all his fellow techs and they didn't know either, then the story changed to the model not having an edr. We politely told him which page in the Hyundai manual he can find it, and he refused to look, as did his boss. Car was transferred to a body shop, and disposition was to total the vehicle. While the body shop was still evaluating the car, we contacted a second dealer, who said they don't have a reader. I inspected the floormats before the car was towed, as that was an initial suspect, but it was locked in and clearly there was no obstruction. She was wearing tennis shoes and doesn't recall ever having an instance of hitting the wrong pedal in any vehicle. She thinks she was only coasting, not even touching the brake yet.
My wife was driving our Hyundai Tucson on the city street at about 35 mph. She signaled left to get into a turning lane. The turning lane has two lanes and is very long. She got into the turning lane and the traffic in front of her stopped. The car's collision avoidance system activated and slammed on the brakes even though the vehicle was not very close to the cars in front of her. As a result, a vehicle behind her rear ended her causing over $9,000 in damage. This car has done this before on the highway and city street. The collision sensitivity setting was on normal and had been since we got the car and until the accident. I had also been driving the car when the collision avoidance activated. The problem with this car is that it only knows to slam on the brakes and results in getting rear ended. It does not gradually apply the brakes even when the car in front is not very close and locking up the brakes is not necessary and is actually unsafe as shown when my wife was in a rear collision accident. This is a major safety problem and needs to be looked into.
Vehicle randomly activated automatic emergency braking and the forward collision warning with no other vehicles in sight. The vehicle slammed on the brakes almost causing a trailing car to rear end our vehicle. This has happened 5 times with speeds between 40 and 80 mph over the past 4 weeks. Conditions were cloudy. Problem has not been reproduced by the dealorship. No inspections have occurred.
The automatic braking was inappropriately applied while I was coming to a controlled stop on a 45mph stop light intersection. I was already slowing down and about 30 feet behind the car in front of me the collision avoidance warning starting going off, slightly applied brakes (to the additional amount I was already applying) then slammed on the brakes to a complete stop. There was some teen behind me who wasn't paying attention, and obviously no one expects the car in front of them to slam on their brakes 30 feet behind the cars in front of them, then plowed into back end of my car. This isn't the first time it's happened and I wasn't even at risk of collision as I was already slowing down in the other instances. But this time it caused an accident and injury. I am suffering from whiplash and possible herniated disk. The system is on the late setting as well but is still dangerous to drive. There needs to be a firmware update or sensor recall, this is very dangerous!.
The contact owns a 2025 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at various speeds, the imminent crash braking failed to function as intended. The first time that the failure occurred, the contact's wife was driving in the rain, and a beeping sound was coming from the vehicle, and the vehicle stopped independently. The vehicle returned to normal functionality after several minutes. The contact stated that on a separate occasion, while his wife was driving in slow traffic, there was an abnormal beeping sound coming from the vehicle before the vehicle independently stopped. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle returned to normal functionality minutes later; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic, and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 1,000.
2 times, while driving 35-40 mph, the vehicle automatically slammed hard on brakes to full stop without any danger or other vehicle near, causing neck pain/whip lash. 3 days ago, I attempted a u-turn in busy intersection, suddenly the vehicle braked hard and came to full stop without any danger near. The dash lights lit up, the vehicle stalled. I was in middle of very busy intersection. It would not move forward. I reversed just in time to miss being slammed into by fast moving oncoming traffic.
We were driving on i4 in stop and go traffic. Our speed was under 25 mph and we were over a full car length back from the vehicle in front of us. I was actively braking to come to a stop due to traffic and the forward collision / emergency braking kicked in and stopped us immediately. This caused a car behind us to almost hit us and cause an accident due to sudden stopping. This happened 3 separate times within a 30 minute timeframe with 2 different cars behind us. The system will take control of braking the car and the steering wheel, and will not always give it back immediately to be able to continue driving. This has occurred previously when slowing down due to someone turning in front of us just in every day driving, and has almost caused a wreck then as well. Our local Hyundai dealer said there was no recall or issue with the system. This is dangerous and going to cause an accident sooner or later.
On numerous occasions (over 20) the forward collision system just slams on the brakes to a full stop, there was nothing close enough to vehicle to cause this issue. Sometimes it’s caused by rain or wind, sometimes for no apparent reasons. One time it caused a no damage accident as person behind me tapped my bumper. In traffic it is set off often with nothing within a safe distance away. There was no obstacles or sudden movements from other vehicles around me. I have brought the car back too Hyundai 3 times only to tell me either a dumb excuse or nothing is wrong with vehicle. I have seen on forums there are a lot of incidents with this particular car we have serviced the vehichle 3 different times over this issue and were told there is nothing wrong with the vehicle accident happened in summer so I will say there was a crash in additional details but last date occurrence of automatic stop was this morning.
I was driving on the road this morning approx. 25 mph (clear road, no rain, snow etc. ) the car came to a full abrupt stop. Collusion/warning notification never came on (there was nothing in front of me) seatbelt locked. Car would not move. I put the car in park and had to turn the car off and back on to get the car to move. This honestly scared the life out of me. I had several cars behind me that could of rear ended my car and caused serious harm to myself or other drivers. I called the dealership (will be dropping off this evening) but they made it very clear that if they can not duplicate the problem there is nothing that they can do. The car has 8,000 miles on it and was purchased in April 2025.
At high speeds above 40 mph vehicle automatically brakes with no vehicle or objects in front while vehicle is in operation. Very concerning when driving on interstate.
Multiple times my vehicle has come to a complete stop unwarranted. There have been multiple instances of the automatic braking triggering on michigan left hand turns with no traffic oncoming. This was reported to the dealer and they found no issue, however it has happened again since. The vehicle has also multiple times come to a full stop in heavy traffic when I was already braking and a full stop was unnecessary. There were two instances from this where I was very nearly rear ended, including on the expressway. There were no warnings that the system was malfunctioning.
Forward collision alert system has slamed the breaks on for no reason. The vehicle begins abruptly stop for no reason. On two of the occasions I was almost rear-end by following vehicles. The system needs to be recalled.
While driving at speed in heavy traffic, I quickly merged from the right lane to the left lane to avoid an obstacle. My vehicle and the new vehicle in front of me (in the left lane) were traveling at approximately the same speed, although there was an admittedly small (one half car length) distance between us. My forward collision assist inaccurately identified this new vehicle in front of me as a sudden danger that I was going to hit. It immediately applied full braking power and played the forward collision alert sound. This aggressive and unexpected stop spilled and broke items in my car as they slid, roughly strained me against my seat belt, and caused the vehicle behind me to aggressively brake. A rear end collision was narrowly avoided, only due to the fast reaction of the driver behind me. This aggressive and dangerous forward assist and emergency braking can only be temporarily disabled for one drive, and resets every time the vehicle is turned on. I have not had my vehicle inspected for this issue, but communities on the internet have confirmed that this is a common problem.
I was backing out of my driveway, which is on a busy street. I waited for the traffic to clear. I backed out onto the main road, which I thought was completely clear, but a car came behind me and I smacked right into him. There was no beeping from my car, and the automatic braking system did not engage at all. The rear of my car, particularly the driver's side, was severely damaged. The other car's passenger front door was badly damaged. The side curtain airbag on their car deployed and their vehicle (Volvo station wagon) was not driveable. The emergency braking system frequently engages unexpectedly when I back out of my driveway, even when there is no hazard. The unexpected braking is oftentimes dangerous. However, this time, when I needed it, it did not engage. An outside diagnostic inspection was done on the vehicle, and showed "no event. " if you saw the cars involved in the accident, it is clear there was a significant "event. ".

Approximate date 10/7/2025. Driving 20mph clear daylight sunny conditions in right lane, another vehicle in left lane put on right blinker to merge in front of me into my lane. The merging vehicle was 3 car lengths ahead and had plenty of space to merge. Merging vehicle was only half way into right lane when without touching the brakes and no warning alarm the wheels locked up completely, skidding to a complete stop, almost got rear ended. 2 days later on 10/9/2025 same weather conditions while driving on highway the traffic was stop and go,speed 40mph. A vehicle ahead of me applied their brakes,no imminent threat, I placed my foot on brake pedal as a precaution, then brakes locked up so I pumped brakes thinking what else could I do? this did nothing, brakes remained locked until vehicle stopped. Almost got rear ended again. I can’t remember if any audible alarm or dash warning. These were the only 2 incidents with braking failure. Hyundai dealer booked appointment but they could not find any issues with the braking system on 10/2025. Mechanic could not reproduce braking issue. When I picked up vehicle I spoke to the mechanic. He said “ if the braking issue occurs again please make another appointment. The salesman who I purchased the vehicle said “shut off the warning system”. Which I declined his offer. Thank you!.
While trying to pull out of driveway it will hard stop like im going to hit something. I can be driving thru town and all the sudden it will try to stop abruptley. It does it often. Took to shop and all they would say is all systems work like they are supposed to. My font collision light comes on all the time with some times staying on for a few days. I have tried to wipe it off with no luck keeping it clean. I drove it off the lot turned around asnd they had to replace a head cause it stuck open. Runs funning.
I was driving on a highway in the largest city in the world and while vehicle merging into my vehicle, Hyundai Tucson automatically and abruptly engaged emergency forward collision. There was absolutely not necessary. All loose items in vehicle went flying inside of my car. My body went forward as well as my passengers. Luckily I was not rear ended in an accident. This is the third incident of the vehicle automatically engaging safety features which actually does the opposite and is a hazard, since I bought the car in Feb 2025. There is no way to permanently disable these features. A driver not being in control of their car is a huge liability on the road. This vehicle must be recalled to disable this feature. Perhaps in a rural area somewhere in the world with no other cars around , this wouldn’t be an issue. Large cities with vehicular and pedestrian traffic it is a danger.
Under two occasions I was driving on the highway at a safe distance from the car in front of me and my car emergency braking system triggered and went off and caused my car to stop in the middle of the highway. This caused a collision behind me. There was no reason on either occasion for the braking to bring the car to a hault.
