1 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/01/2025

The back passenger door will not open from inside or outside. The front passenger door will not open from outside or inside. The warranty will not cover this as they are saying it it wear and tear. Hyundai has confirmed they know there is an issue with the doors but refuse a recall to fix this.

2 Body problem of the 2025 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/31/2025

On 08/31/2025, I was involved in an accident while driving my 2025 Hyundai Tucson. While attempting to change lanes at highway speed, the driver behind me failed to see my turn signal and collided with my vehicle. I believe the cause was the unusually low placement of the rear bumper-mounted turn signals, which creates a direct visibility flaw. The Tucson’s turn signals are mounted low on the rear bumper instead of at eye level within the taillight assembly. This design makes them especially difficult to see in two critical conditions: bright sunlight: the low-mounted signals are easily washed out in daytime conditions, reducing visibility to following drivers. Low light/traffic conditions: at night or in heavy traffic, larger vehicles and brake light glare further obscure the signals. In my case, the driver behind me could not see my intent to switch lanes, and despite my efforts to avoid a collision, the lack of visible signaling directly led to a frontal driver’s side impact. This design presents an ongoing highway safety hazard: poor visibility: low placement reduces signal recognition in both bright and low light. Accident risk: my collision demonstrates the real-world consequences of this flaw. Durability concerns: bumper-level placement exposes wiring to water, debris, and road wear, raising the risk of malfunction. Although the accident resulted in minor damage, the potential for severe outcomes at highway speeds is significant. I respectfully request NHTSA to investigate this design flaw and evaluate whether corrective action (recall, retrofit, or advisory) is warranted. Unknown if Hyundai is currently addressing this issue, but concerns about rear blinker visibility have been widely reported among Tucson owners and auto safety forums.

3 Body problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/31/2025

While driving my 2022 Hyundai Tucson at highway speed, the panoramic sunroof spontaneously shattered with a loud “explosion” sound. There was no road debris, overhead structure, or external cause, and no warning lights or prior symptoms. The glass shows a central hole with spiderweb cracking radiating outward, which is consistent with a manufacturing defect in tempered glass panels, not an impact. The sunroof shade was closed, preventing glass from entering the cabin, but this failure created a serious safety risk to occupants and nearby drivers. This matches numerous reports of Hyundai panoramic sunroof failures and is similar to the pattern documented in NHTSA investigation pe13-017. The vehicle has not yet been inspected by Hyundai but is available for inspection. Incident occurred on [xxx], while driving from monroe, louisiana, to atlanta, GA, shortly after departure. The failure created a serious safety issue, forcing us to stop at a home depot and perform emergency repairs using tarp and gorilla tape to secure the roof and continue our trip safely. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

4 Body problem of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/17/2025

While driving on the freeway my sunroof suddenly imploded sending glass everywhere. No warning whatsoever it was like a bomb went off out of nowhere. Nothing hit the car and temps were not high and it just imploded this is a serious matter and extremely dangerous. The pain and ringing in my ears is awful, glass went all over this is serious issue that can cause death and injury.

5 Body problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/07/2025

Our Tucson was stolen in charlotte, nc on [xxx]. The pax rear window was broken and the thieves broke open the steering column to start the car. It appears they used the well-known "tik-tok" method. I have record that our Tucson had the "software update" installed, at a local dealership, a year ago. This update (which should've been a recall) was supposed to address this issue. Despite this update, the car was stolen in less than 2 minutes (I have ring camera pictures with timestamps). I have doubts now that the dealership actually did the update. Part of the update includes a specific window sticker that is to be applied to the driver's door window. That decal is missing. There is no evidence that it was ever there (I have pictures). The car was recovered but cannot be driven. It must be towed due to the damage. Another concern is the engine and drive train. Criminals were out joy riding in our stolen car on an almost full tank of gas. Because the car cannot be driven, I don't know if there is any damage to any part(s) of the drive train. We are now waiting for our insurance company to arrange to have the car repaired. I am very concerned now about the long term viability and reliability of this car. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Body problem of the 2023 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/06/2025

While on the road, the sunroof just shattered completely. In this instance, nobody was hurt as the cover below the sunroof was open and that caught all the glass pieces. The car is hardly 2 year old and warranty covered the repairs. The complaint is that Hyundai never gave a clear answer as to why this happened and what can be done to prevent it. There is no consideration of the passengers getting hurt and startled by this incident. Also no consideration for the time it took for the repairs, the dealership never gave a loaner and we didn’t know we could rent it and Hyundai would reimburse. I feel Hyundai cannot just say sorry and move on as there has to be a reason for this and we pay extra for having a sunroof. I am not satisfied with Hyundai’s method of dealing with customers who suffered bear of their own manufacturing.

7 Body problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/06/2025

Gas cap won’t open.

8 Body problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/15/2025

The white paint on the hood began to flake off. Currently, the missing paint is about 3 inches in diameter. There is an appearance of paint bubbling on the roof of the vehicle and in the hood. The vehicle was taken to dealership, but a member of their service department conveyed nothing to be done because no current warranty on it. No outside company has reviewed the issue.

9 Body problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/03/2025

1-- fuel injector failed 11/2023 one month to replace it, 2-- fuel injector failed 3/2025 in dealer, 3-- fuel door does not open, replaced by dealer 3/2025.

10 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/19/2025

Right rear passenger door will not open when actuating handles inside or outside the vehicle. Unable to remove child or allow passangers safe exit of vehicle. If you pull the handles twice or six times it will sometimes open. Intermittant issue, acuators all appear to work and be in good condition.

11 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/17/2025

Window is stuck down. Window does not roll up. The Hyundai Tucson doors are notorious for having problems from not unlocking, opening, to the windows not working. These are all safety hazards. The doors not unlocking or opening are covered under an extended warranty but the window issues, which are equally as problematic, have not been addressed and the dealership is price gouging customers for the fix.

12 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/04/2025

Unknown there is a issue with paint on the car. The paint is white and is chipping on hood, top of car and back of car. The car looks terrible with a cheap paint job.

13 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 01/01/2025

Rear passenger door won’t open from inside or outside. Safety concern.

14 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/14/2024

All my doors stick and sometimes I have to fight with my car to even get a door open. Also, when trying to accelerate sometimes my throttle response is slow and I will not move for a few seconds.

15 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/21/2024

In December 2023 I purchased my first car, a 2016 Hyundai tucsan limited edition. The car had approx. 70k miles. After only 9 months, I noticed I was unable to gain access into the rear passenger side door. I quickly ruled out child locks, faulty fuses, and any other issues as directed in the owners manual. The window is still functional. As of today, 10/10/24 ive had no luck being able to open the door. The mechanic stated it was an issue with the locking mechanism and quoted us for over $1400/$4000. He stated this is a common occurrence with this model. I find this issue with my newly purchased car, that I keep serviced and in perfect condition to be unacceptable. It is a major safety issue for me and my family. I am in school and work full time and I can not afford this type of repair. This type of issue should be recalled.

16 Body problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

The rear passenger control arm broke off of the subframe due to severe corrosion despite Hyundai applying a corrosion preventative under recall 17-01-013 on 12/1/2015. During all service work following the preventative in 2015, corrosion was never brought up as a concern by the dealership (we have all service records since date of initial purchase). Thankfully we had just reached our destination and were parking the car when the failure happened. Had the part failed 5 minutes earlier, we would have been on the highway at over 60mph and could have been seriously injured or worse. We had our Tucson towed to the dealership for repair as well as additional recall work under campaign 952 for corrosion of the fuel band. We were contacted by the dealership on 8/22/24 and told that the new subframe could not be installed as the corrosion was so severe, the body mounts had also corroded away so there was nothing to attach the new subframe to. The dealership advised us that our Tucson is now totaled and it is solely due to corrosion that Hyundai has been aware of and has been subject to multiple class action lawsuits over it. This is absolutely unacceptable. This car is still in perfect mechanical condition and the exterior has absolutely zero rust but now it can no longer be driven due to Hyundai’s shoddy subframes.

17 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/12/2024

The rear driver's side door will not open, neither with the remote nor manually from both the inside and outside. Without enabling rear passengers to exit the car during an emergency is very much a safety issue. No warning lamps or messages.

18 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/30/2024

Have had to replace the regulator in all four windows. Seems to be a pretty common problem online. Reporting this so hopefully enough people say something that Hyundai has a recall and reimburses us for the repairs. Thanks.

19 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/21/2024

I have a 2016 Hyundai Tucson limited. I have had both front windows regulators break within the past year. I had the drivers side repaired but, was hoping there would be a recall before I spent $800 to repair the other one. But Hyundai should own up to this issue and have a recall, if they want return customers. Time to step up Hyundai.

20 Body problem of the 2017 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/04/2024

This is the second time this year one of the doors refused to open. In may the front passenger door would only open if outside handle was jiggled a few times. Two weeks ago rear door behind driver refuses to open at all - from inside or out! I have small children and this is a safety issue!! I’m terrified either the kids or I will become trapped in an emergency or other unsafe situation. In additional to the emotional impact of this is the financial. The interior door panel - which is plastic - most likely will break and need replacement. Vehicle needs to be in shop for nearly 2 weeks. I can’t trust this vehicle and will never buy this brand again. In the interim a safety recall needs to be initiated. I would not want to dump this unsafe vehicle on someone else with children or elderly people they transport. Please do something soon!.

21 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/06/2024

I own a 2016 Hyundai Tucson and have noticed that none of the doors other than the driver door will open either from the inside or outside. I have small children that I drive to and from school, activities. If we were to get into a wreck or were to run off rode into a body of water my children could drown or die due to doors not opening. This seems to be a very common issue with Hyundai and needs to be addressed and recalled and fixed by dealership immediately!.

22 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 06/01/2024

The driver's side back door will not open from the inside or outside. There was no warning or damage down to cause this, just one day it would not open. From research on the internet this is a common problem with a 2016 Tucson and is due from the lock actuator and is not being recalled. This is a huge safety risk if someone needed to exit the backseat quickly.

23 Body problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/28/2024

While driving at a freeway speed of 70mph, my panoramic sunroof basically exploded raining glass everywhere. It sounded like a shotgun blast. There was zero indication of an outside object hitting it. The damage was so extensive it would have to have taken a fairly large object to cause this. It also seemed to have blown the glass outward, which indicates to me that there was some faulty component in the sunroof itself. I've read and watched other people who've had similar incidents.

24 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/24/2024

Both rear doors will not open from inside or outside. This began 3 years ago, with intermittent opening issues. For the last six months, neither rear door will open from inside, or outside. With the thousands of complaints I have seen online, one would think our government would do something!!!.

25 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/17/2024

I have three doors on my Tucson affected. Back passenger door will not open at all from the inside or outside. The driver’s will open if I lock and unlock three or four times and pull the handle three or four times. The back drivers door is now doing the same thing as the drivers door. I have looked into the cost of having it repaired and Hyundai wants over $1500 per door to fix the issue. If I pay the close to $5000 to fix these doors, which I most definitely don’t have and don’t know anybody who does, I will have paid more than half the value of the car just to fix the doors. I’ve looked online and there are hundreds and thousands of people having the same problem - multiple years of Tucson models and other Hyundai models such as the elantra. My car only has 62,000 miles on it. It has only had two owners. In the six years that I have owned the car I have only had people in the backseat three or four times. This is definitely not a wear problem. It is most definitely a safety issue. If I am in an accident and unconscious and the emergency workers can’t get the door open to get to me, it’s a safety issue. If I’m in an accident and can’t get the door open to escape the car, it is a safety issue. If I am going to my car late at night by myself and can’t get into the car it’s a safety issue. I am divorced and live alone, and drive across country occasionally. If I’m stopped at a rest stop or gas station and can’t get into my car this is a safety issue. If there are children in the backseat of the car and the door can’t be opened to get to the children this is a safety issue. The back passenger door stopped working entirely about 6 to 8 months ago - it can’t be opened from the inside or outside at all. The driver’s door started having issues about 3 to 4 months ago. The back drivers door just started having the issue three days ago. I do not understand why a safety recall has not yet been issued for this problem considering the huge number of affected cars out there.

26 Body problem of the 2015 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 05/16/2024

The passenger door handle will not open from the outside door after using keyless entry or door unlock. This put people at risk if someone is trying to rescue the person from an accident or other critical injury where one needs help to escape from the vehicle. There are numerous reports of this manufacture and model where the front doors or back passenger doors will not open. . Read more...

27 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

My car randomly will not reverse; it's happened a few times, I was alone or with my 5 year old the first time, and next couple of times I've had witnesses (husband and a friend) and this last time I was alone but I took a video. Sometimes my car feels like it has no power or like it's in the first gear struggling to make it past that (it's an automatic but that's the best way I can describe it). Three out of my four doors stick and I have to pull multiple times to get the door opened, even though it's unlocked. I find these issues, while not outright dangerous, can be a hassle especially when I'm in a parking lot trying to reverse into a spot or out of a spot. It's hard for my 8 year old to get in or out of the car cause her door sticks. I feel like when my car is driving sluggish, that I am going to get hit by another car.

28 Body problem of the 2018 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 04/01/2024

The paint on my 2018 Hyundai Tucson began peeling off the side mirrors and the shark-fin antenna on the roof. I have found that many other Hyundai owners are experiencing the same issue. It appears to be a widespread manufacturing defect related to improper paint adhesion, and I believe it should be addressed even though my vehicle is out of warranty.

29 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/06/2024

The driver side door fails to open from the outside. I'm not sure if it is available for inspection, as I've tried to contact the Hyundai dealership I got it from, and they haven't gotten back to me. This is a safety issue because it causes me to have to walk around to the passenger side door and either climb over, or reach over and partially open the driver door then get back out and walk over to the other side again. I live in a big city and as a woman I don't always feel safe having to take extra time to get into my vehicle. It's also a safety issue because if something goes wrong, someone can't open the door to get to me. A dealer friend of a friend looked at the door and confirmed something is wrong with the latch cable, and also said that it would cost up to $1500 to repair. This is the only person who has inspected it so far. It looks like I'm not the only person who has had door issues with tuscons which is why I'm here. There was no warning at all. I drove the vehicle to work with no incident and then when I left work I found I could not open the door anymore even after locking and unlocking a few times. This was back at the beginning of March 2024.

30 Body problem of the 2016 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 03/04/2024

Door locks no longer work. Passenger side failed and now (3 months later) drivers side failed. This prevents entry and exit in case of emergency. Rear doors function appropriately. When locking and unlocking the doors, the front two make a mechanical sound. When unlocked, they do not open.

31 Body problem of the 2024 Hyundai Tucson

33 Body problem of the 2021 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 02/24/2024

Panoramic sunroof spontaneously exploded when driving on highway. No warning. Sounded like a gunshot. Had to pull over on the highway and clean off as much glass as I could so it did not cause injury or damage to other motorists. Looks like many other Tucson owners are experiencing similar issues. Has not been inspected yet as dealerships and insurance are closed today.

34 Body problem of the 2013 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 12/25/2023

I was driving on the highway and was notified by passing motorists that there was smoke coming from my vehicle, I proceeded to pull to the shoulder and parked my vehicle. When parked, I noticed flames coming from the engine compartment and under the vehicle. I proceeded to get as far away from the car and that when the fire became enraged and fully engulfed my vehicle. The fire department arrived and distinguished the fire.
