1 Suspension problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/24/2025

While almost at a complete stop in the process of putting my 2019 Hyundai Tucson in park at my friends home to drop her off, the car involuntarily surged/accelerated forward over a cement curbing and landscaping timber and slide down a small incline into a tree and landscaping boulder! after looking on line concerning the malfunction it seems there are abundant claims from other 2017-2019 Hyundai Tucson owners that have experienced this exact mechanical defect under this frightening description of a surge or acceleration out of the drivers control! it's the craziest, scariest thing ever. We have taken the car in for a recall concerning the check engine light regarding the catalytic converter prior to this incident. The car is well cared for and maintained and has never been in any accident.

3 Suspension problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 10/21/2024

Trailing arm bushings on both sides appear to generate considerable noise indicating wear (has been since delivery but getting much worse over this year). Dealer's solution was to simply lubricate them. The owner manual says nothing of this, and I think this is a simple "go away" band-aid solution. Attempted to reach Hyundai corporate, who asked me to confirm with the dealer if that is proper. That seems like a question for engineering, not the dealer who applied the band-aid fix. It is apparent that the bushings they affixed to the vehicle are defective and could possibly cause larger issues down the line -- far enough down the road when Hyundai can claim they are a wear item and need to be replaced.

4 Suspension problem of the 2012 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/20/2024

The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Tucson. The contact stated while the vehicle was at an independent mechanic for an oil change, the contact was informed that the subframe was significantly rusted. Additionally, the contact stated while driving 25-35 mph, she was losing control of the vehicle. The contact was able to pull to the side of the roadway. The contact stated that upon inspecting the vehicle, she noticed that the rear passenger's side wheel was dislocated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the subframe and other parts were severely rusted. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the frame and the suspension were damaged and needed to be replaced. The contact was provided a cost for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that an undercoating spray was previously applied to the underbody of the vehicle as a corrosion preventative service under TSB number: 16-01-045. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 105,576.

5 Suspension problem of the 2007 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 08/15/2024

The rear passenger control arm broke off of the subframe due to severe corrosion despite Hyundai applying a corrosion preventative under recall 17-01-013 on 12/1/2015. During all service work following the preventative in 2015, corrosion was never brought up as a concern by the dealership (we have all service records since date of initial purchase). Thankfully we had just reached our destination and were parking the car when the failure happened. Had the part failed 5 minutes earlier, we would have been on the highway at over 60mph and could have been seriously injured or worse. We had our Tucson towed to the dealership for repair as well as additional recall work under campaign 952 for corrosion of the fuel band. We were contacted by the dealership on 8/22/24 and told that the new subframe could not be installed as the corrosion was so severe, the body mounts had also corroded away so there was nothing to attach the new subframe to. The dealership advised us that our Tucson is now totaled and it is solely due to corrosion that Hyundai has been aware of and has been subject to multiple class action lawsuits over it. This is absolutely unacceptable. This car is still in perfect mechanical condition and the exterior has absolutely zero rust but now it can no longer be driven due to Hyundai’s shoddy subframes.

Failure Date: 12/28/2022

The car has been erratic in its performance since purchase. The car has a continuous issue with the suspension, electronic system, and brakes. I have reached out to Hyundai manufacturer on numerous occasion regarding the car and no one is addressing my concerns. The car drives so erratic and unpredictable that I am fearful that someone will be injured or worst. Attached is a photo of the entire system going offline, which occurs all the time, and because the whole care is computerized this poses a safety risk for me and others on the road. When the car goes offline, I no longer have control of the vehicle and all mechanical systems are down. Please help me to get this issue resolved before someone gets hurt. 13 Suspension problem of the 2022 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/28/2022

Hello, I am writing because I have experienced mechanical issues with my car since I purchased the automobile. Since I bought the car, I began having problems with the electrical components, the automatic emergency brake engaging while driving, and the chassis. The emergency brake has engaged while driving numerous times and has consistently been unpredictable since I've owned the car. In addition, the car's handling and suspension have been problematic since purchasing the vehicle. The car has driven poorly, with many vibrations and feeling extra loose throughout my owning the car. I received a diagnostic code via my Hyundai app indicating issues related to the chassis. I have contacted Hyundai on far too many instances regarding these problems and have not gotten any resolution. I've expressed my concerns about feeling that the car was unsafe for myself and other drivers on the road. However, Hyundai has still been unresponsive, as indicated by numerous open case files where there was no followthrough. Last week, I was in a car accident with a bus. I believe the accident occurred because of the above-stated problem. Specifically, when the emergency brake unexpectantly engages as it did right before the accident. The car is now at the Hyundai dealership. A representative from the dealership contacted me about my concerns as if the car's problems were new and they were not aware of them. These problems have caused me to experience high-stress levels because of the car's unpredictability and my fear of being in an accident. I desire to receive a two-fold resolution by submitting this letter of complaint. I want to get a properly functioning automobile and to prevent anyone else from being in an accident because of the critical mechanical issues present in the 2022 Hyundai Tucson.

14 Suspension problem of the 2019 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 07/21/2022

*inside of car smelt like urine upon start. Car went into limp mode. First trip to dealership, catalytic converter was replaced. After the 6th time to dealership for same issue, manufacture approved engine replacement. Car went into limp mode which posed a safety risk to our family as well as other vehicles on the road. This happened twice while on the freeway and we could have been rear-ended due to unexpected reduced speed. This also happened twice while turning with oncoming traffic approaching. Problem was reproduced as this happened 6 times before the manufacture would approve an engine replacement. Dealership replaced all the fuel injectors. No change engine went into limp mode p1326 (failure code). Dealership installed a new short block engine. Engine smelling like urine appears to be the first symptom (catalytic converter failure and replaced). When the car went into limp mode the engine light flashes. P1326 (failure code). Urine smell occurred beginning in July 2022 at (23,926 miles). Car went into limp mode for the first time on September 23 (approximately 25,400). * another issue we are now addressing not related to the above engine issues: car fish-tales when you drive over any bump in the road. Dealership is replacing both rear shock absorbers. They said both shocks were leaking fluid. Is very unstable and throws you around (like hydro-planning the pavement is dry). Warning signs, just started happening.

31 Suspension problem of the 2010 Hyundai Tucson

Failure Date: 09/30/2019

I heard a clunk upon turning right, exiting a parking lot. The rear end of the car started to sway. Fearing a blown tire, I pulled off the road, only to find the left rear wheel pitched at a rather unhealthy angle. After towing the car to my local repair shop it was discovered that the rear cross member was rusted out. Apparently this is a fairly common occurrence in certain Hyundai models. Although out of warranty, it seems like Hyundai should be willing to address this issue of rust and stand by their vehicles.
