The contact owns a 2019 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 mph, there was an abnormal sound coming from the engine. The contact stated that it sounded as if the engine was revving without the accelerator pedal being depressed. The contact stated that the rpm revved between 5,000-7,000 rpms but the vehicle was losing motive power. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal; however, the vehicle was still losing motive power. The contact was able to stop the vehicle. The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle several times however, the vehicle failed to respond while shifting into drive(d). The contact stated the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had the vehicle towed to a local dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and advised the contact that clutch packs 1 and 2 showed dtc codes: p090173 and p090b73. The contact was informed that the clutch packs 1 and 2 along with the clutch actuator and the front brake pads, rotors, and fluid needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,307.

This has happened 3 times. While driving the car it slows down and rpms go up. I’ll be driving on expressway at approximate 60 mph then slows down to a crawl on expressway. 1st time it happened the dealer said a hose came off the turbo causing the issue. 2nd time it happened they said it was a coil. Now it happened again I almost got into and accident as the engine revs but transmission not engaging.
My 2015 Veloster reflex has been at alan jackson, jackson TN. For 45 days. The vehicle was serviced there for campaigns/recalls. The primary complaint, engine failure while I was driving down highway 70, the engine completely shut off, a defective engine, a product which Hyundai is at fault. The defective engine is consuming 1 quart of oil per 80 miles. I asked the service department to start the oil consumption test, brian the lead technician, responded "you need a new engine. " this safety hazard and economic burden has yet to be resolved. The Veloster is kept and maintained in immaculate condition. While the vehicle is only garage kept, it is now in the elements without protection, remaining on the lot of the service department for over 45 days, which is not in good faith a suitable resolution period. I commute 100 miles round trip for my profession as a university professor in microbiology for the university of tennessee. My 2015 Veloster reflex is my primary mode of transportation to various satellite and main campus obligatory profession duties. I am without transportation due to Hyundai's negalence in properly addressing these chief safety hazardous engine failures/massive oil (synthetic) consumption which is now blowing through my catalytic converter, exiting through my exhaust tips, turning them black and splattering oil along my rear bumper. The original case manager, jose, failed to respond to this safety hazard in the 10 business days which Hyundai has set forth, as well as, when jose would tried to be reached on my behalf, jose was never available, in addition too, his voicemail was always full, which meant I could not leave a message. Again, is this how Hyundai's customer care is really showing through their actions that they do care?.

Car was taken to the dealership for two active recalls. The dealership began with 966 engine monitoring logic recall. An error code was received after the computer was updated during the recall. The display panel now displays all gears as e, and now when the dealership drives it the car has a stall. The dealership states the transmission must be replaced. From my understanding it all is related to software. It is still with the dealership, Hyundai is refusing to cover this since the car is out of warranty. This defect is directly from the recall.

Since Nov/Dec 2020 low oil warning lite started flashing at 2 separate svc intervals for oil change maintenance. At service visit in Jan 2021 requested dealer to inspect for oil leaks. None were found but since then I began checking oil level regulary & found out the car was consuming excessive amount of oil…about half a qt every 250-300 miles. At next service appt to have oil change I informed dealer of my findings which he advised performing the 1000 mile consumption test & wait till after to change oil. He advised if vehicle fails consumption test Hyundai’s guidelines suggest a combustion chamber cleaning (at a cost of over $400)! my complaint is if the cleaning is part of Hyundai’s repair guidelines & there’s no other alternative to this step, (as referenced in TSB# 21-em-003h) why does the customer have to pay the $400+ to have it done if the customer’s vehicle has less than 100000 miles so it should still be covered under the 10 year/100000 mile powertrain warranty.

The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that the vehicle was taken to the dealer for the recall repair of NHTSA campaign number: 20v746000 (engine) and the dealer installed a software update containing a new knock sensor detection system; however, while driving 35 mph, the vehicle began to stall. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to push the vehicle to the side of the road with assistance. The vehicle was towed to the dealer who diagnosed that the transmission needed to be replaced. Then, the vehicle was taken to a transmission specialist who diagnosed that the transmission was in great condition; however, the engine was not communicating with the transmission. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed a transmission relearn; however, the vehicle was sluggish while accelerating from a complete stop. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer who diagnosed that there were metal shavings in the engine oil, the engine was knocking loudly, and there was a significant amount of smoke coming out of the exhaust. The dealer reset the knock sensor detection system software. The contact stated that the failure had been reoccurring and the vehicle would not exceed 45 mph. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer - Hyundai of yuma (1125 e 32nd st, yuma, az 85365) who diagnosed that the engine needed to be replaced. The second dealer sent a diagnostic report to the manufacturer and requested a new engine; however, the manufacturer denied the request due to the vehicle having a salvage title. The contact stated that only the rear end of the vehicle was reconstructed as the vehicle was involved in a crash. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 58,900.

On five separate occasions the vehicle engine has shut off completely while driving in traffic. Fortunately my wife was able to coast to the side of the road, but in all instances a serious road hazard and danger to safety for both us as well as the public was created. We are now no longer driving the vehicle out of fear of our safety. We have contacted the Hyundai dealership where all the prior 4+ years of service has been done, as well as Hyundai USA. Both have said they will not investigate. After the first two occurrences, I was told the original engine needed to be replaced due to metal shavings in the internal components. This is the exact same reason for the recent global recall, however Hyundai said our model was not covered under the warranty even though it was the same issue. We had the Hyundai dealership replace the engine and within one month it happened again. This time they said the catalytic converter/exhaust manifold had failed again (this was the third catalytic converter). Since then, the engine has shut off two more times while driving. A local certified mechanic has inspected it and said he has seen several similar problems with other Hyundai vehicles. Hyundai USA refuses to address the issue.

Losing power in engine while driving and or idle at stop lights. Decrease in acceleration. Car not starting up right away.
Hyundai/NHTSA has a recall for 2015-2016 Veloster 1. 6 engines for connecting rod bearing failures, an issue that has been ongoing and known for years. The recall needs to be extended to 2011-2018 1. 6l gdi motors used in Hyundai and kia vehicles, which all have issues with rod bearing failures. The rod bearing is going out on my Veloster that I recently purchased and Hyundai will not honor recall for the motor in the vehicle for the same issue going on on all model years. I do have a video of the running engine with the rod bearing noise but it exceeds the file limit size. The link is the youtube video I uploaded. . Read more...
Hello, I believe there is an underlying issue with the Veloster 2013 that Hyundai has not addressed properly with their service campaign. I had received the service around 06/01/19 (I am not sure exactly when) and a year later have had the same exact problems this service was supposed to address. I have had engine stalls in the middle of the street near usc on a busy intersection and had to move the car by foot in fear of getting hit by another car. I've also had engine power issues that seem to have persisted. When this happened I took it into a mechanic to address the issue, their diagnosis was a bad coil pack for which they did a tune up (spark plugs, coil packs, oil filter). Shortly after the tune-up I had problems of the same misfiring issue where there would be no power to the engine and a slight knocking noise. I then took my car to hundai keyes mission hills to diagnose the problem this time and they said the same thing, bad coil pack. There have been known engine failures due to the ecu, and have read many anecdotal evidence that there is an issue with the ecu. I also believe this issue has caused my catalytic converter to fail prematurely as the misfires would send unburned fuel into the catalytic converter. I initially got in contact with a service manager at Hyundai consumer affairs on Feb 15th and he has finally called me today 03/15/19 after weeks of trying to get updates. The supervisor has deemed that this was out of warranty and that I would have to pay for it even after expressing my concerns that there might be an underlying issue that has not been resolved by the service campaign. This is a dangerous problem for other Veloster owners. And I fear that my engine will fail in the future. Here is the service campaign. Report receipt date: Mar 14, 2019 NHTSA campaign: 19v204000.
The climate control switch has been replaced multiple times. The main harness where clips in is burnt an is melting my switch out after being changed an used for few hours it then burns out. The car smells like it's melting threw the vent of plastic.
Attempted to back out of parking space reverse no longer worked. Pushed vehicle out of parking and was able to drive forward to get car home. When in drive it is jerky as gears shifts. It is to slow to shift, slow to engage gears, once shift is complete hesitates low to keep moving forward then jerks forward very aggressively.
It started with my stability control light coming on and staying on. Then I noticed when at a stop it felt like I was pressing the brakes at the same time I was stepping on the accelerator. Then when it was dark my neighbor noticed my brake lights were on. I researched these three problems that appeared within the same day, and found that the "brake light switch" is causing all three issues. Also, goings recalls for other models of Hyundai for this part but apparently not mine.
I bought a 2013hyundai Veloster in April of 2019 with in the first 2 days of having car it stopping accelerating an left me on the side of road. I had to car towed back to the dealer where the car was bought . After them looking in to the problem they ended up replacing the catalytic converter. The car ran fine for about another 5 to 6 months. Then one day bad rough idel rpms dropping when under acceleration after putting on code reader it turned out to be a misfire I then replace coil pack and spark plugs. The Veloster ran fine for about 3 to 4 months this time. Now we are back to the car having issues today 7/11/20 loss of power under acceleration, rough idel, knocking sound coming from engine. I have contacted Hyundai in the past on the 2013 ecu recall they did not want to honor there recall saying in order to look in to the problem I'd need to get it diagnosed through the dealer when I can simply use my owe code reader. It has been nothing but issues with this vehicle I bought with only 63000 miles this is frustrating is there anything that can be done for Hyundai to honor there recall thank you .
When I first bought my car it seemed to have some sort of transmission problem because it's a dual clutch I was told they do have problems sometimes when I'm trying to pick up speed it seems like it won't switch gears so it won't pick up speed which is extremely dangerous especially when I'm on the beltway or highway and I've already had Hyundai replace the first transmission because it was faulty now my second transmission is already acting up and it's only been 2 years.
Was driving Veloster on highway with 2 yr old granddaughter in backseat when speedometer went it zero than transmission went to limp mode was really scared because a tractor trailer truck was behind at the time I call the Hyundai company to complain nothing has been resolved.
I had problems with my engine. Found out the rod bearing was gone. Call Hyundai and power train warranty expire weeks before it happened. Had to swap engines on the car because it was bad. Always had problems with the engine burning oil really bad. I also had problems with the transmission gears dropping out of no were. Last time it happened when I when to make a right turn and shift it into 2nd gear and when it shift to 3rd it drop to 1. Thankfully there wasn't any other car behind me. It would of definitely cost an accident and had my 1 year old with me. I talk to Hyundai and told me they couldn't do much about it because they didn't know about anyone else with same issues.
Forward collision warning don't work at all, and clicking sound come from the front when press the gas pedal when I press the brake, when I turn left or right, that's sound is constantly all time, I see a lot of post and same car with this problem and Hyundai don't do nothing about this, I send the car to replace the cv axles and same problem sound.
- when it shifts from 1st to 2nd or 2nd to 3rd gear, the rpms will keep going up until I take my foot off the gas. So if I need to merge onto a highway quickly and it stalls in one gear, it can go up to 6k or 7k rpms without shifting. I never let it get past it because I take my foot off the gas to let it shift because I'm afraid it will blow something. - when in automatic and at a stop, if you go, it will sometimes rev up a little high before shifting and also pull a lot faster versus other times when it shifts normally. To keep me on my toes, it will sometimes do the opposite and not accelerate very well at all. Almost like I press the gas and nothing happens until it's pressed all the way and then it will go. - the tachometer will lag on what rpm the engine is actually on. So you'll know it's clearly at 3k but it will only read on 1k for a few seconds before quickly going up to what it's supposed to be on. - there's also a knocking noise when my car is idling for a little while. It's every 5 to 10 minutes there's a loud knock coming from the engine. - I also understand when driving slow, for example like a drive-thru, dct don't typically like that. But when I am in a line like that or traffic, it will stutter as if it's about to stall or shut off completely. And not like a light shake, it was very noticeable that everyone felt as if it was going to sputter and turn off. With these multiple issues, it makes me and my passengers feel extremely unsafe and it's concerning that anytime I've taken it to the dealership it's shrugged off by saying the dct transmissions sometimes "act weird". I'm not sure how that's an answer to something that is pretty dangerous.
I was sitting in a line of cars to get on the freeway I merge into traffic to have the car stumble and jump and wont go, I was almost rear ended when the car decided to take off like a rocket and I almost hit the car in front of me, this has been an ongoing issue since I bought the car new in 2016 and has continued to get worse, this was the first incident about 6 months after I got it, I took it in the dealer, they had a recall and fixed it for a while, then this same thing happens all the time on a daily basis, under normal driving conditions its dangerous because you dont know what the car is or isnt going to do, will it go when I need it to ? or stall thats the huge question, I have had it to the dealer 4 times to have them tell me they all drive like that and they don't know how to fix it or what to do, I have gotten reluctant to drive it only when I have to because im afraid it will stall or leave me stranded, this morning im coming to work and stopped at a sign, then when it was clear I go well no I dont because the car acted like it was stuck, I was in the middle of the street and it finally caught and took off, I am a very cautious driver so all of this happening im extremely careful in heavy traffic, but something has got to be done.
The vehicle clutch disc delaminated and exploded while driving the vehicle. The pressure plate, clutch cylinder and several hydraulic parts were also damaged. This also caused the brakes to stop working since the clutch and brakes share a reservoir.

When on the road and goin up a small hill the transmission looses power don't want to go, loose lots of power.
Car hesitates and would not go. Check engine light began to blink. Has done this a few times when pulling out in front of people. It happens randomly and has happened two or three times.
The contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an abnormal knocking coming from the engine. The vehicle stalled without warning. My Veloster turbo consumes between 3-4 quarts of oil between oil change. I have the 100,000 mile warranty on the power train but they will not look at the engine until we preform a oil consumption test which requires me to bring the car to the dealership every 1000 miles in order for them to look at the engine. I've brought it to two different dealerships and keep getting different excuses as to why this problem exist. The shop manager explained the issue this last time, so they know what the problem is, they just will not fix it or look at it, until we perform this "test". If we continue at this pace my car will be over 100,000 miles and the warranty will be voided. I have performed all of my oil changes on time. Hyundai will not honor their warranty on the power train.
Within the last month my Veloster had catastrophic failure of the turbocharger. After a $1200. 00 repair it threw 2 connecting rods through the engine block causing another catastrophic failure and an impending $3000. 00-5000. 00 repair bill. The car was in motion both times.
My Veloster was at 73k miles when its engine was blown up. While I was driving slowly on a fast-food parking lot, I heard a loud bang, and metal clang from the hood of my car. The car lost its power and there was smoking coming out from the hood as well. So, I went to pop the hood up. There was oil splashed on the engine. I had to get the car towed to Hyundai dealer to see what was going on. I was told it was a blown engine issue. I can't believe that this happened to me. I had just bought the car for 2 months from a dealer. The dealer I bought from had the car inspected and verified that it was in excellent health, and everything. I had not installed any aftermarket parts or tweaked anything on this vehicle, besides replacing a new set of tires. I really hope that Hyundai will provide a remedy for this type of issue since it was basically its production fault. I would have been in a much worse situation, had I been driving on the highway or high speed. Also, I am not the one with that Hyundai had left a bad taste in the mouth with its engine failure.
While parked, car starts hard then will not shift, despite the dash saying it's in drive. Have to shut off, wait, then restart. At stop signs, car will stall then not restart. Once restarted, car will not shift. Need to shut off then restart repeatedly until it shifts. While in motion going straight on the highway, car will act as if it's lost engine power and then stall completely. Again, car will not start, and once it starts it will not shift. Again repeat the turn on/off process until it shifts. Has happened more and more frequently but dealer cannot give me an answer. This car is very unsafe to me and others on the road with it's unpredictability.
Complete car fire. I was driving on the free way going between 70 and 75mph and I went to change lanes and when I looked back in the rearview mirror all I see is smoke so I pull off the freeway onto the shoulder and I see a flame from under the hood. So I pop the hood latch and I open it and there was a fire coming from the engine compartment. So I shut the hood and go and grab necessities out from the vehicle and wait for the fire department to show up and put out the car. Well when they showed up, they were not able to salvage any usable part of the vehicle. Again I was on the freeway/highway traveling between 70mph and 75 mph.
Lag upon acceleration. Multiple cylinder misfires. All replaced and continue to misfire. To much oil being expelled through exhaust, regular oil change records and drive efficiency. Potentially ruining turbo as well as motor. Depleting mpg.
With no warning, at low speed, having travelled only a quarter of a mile fromthe previous location where it had been parked for a couple of hours, the engine locked up in the middle of a busy highway, throwing a rod and multiple chunks of metal, and pouring oil onto the highway. This vehicle had been well-maintained, and had low mileage for its age. If this had happened after the motor really had a chance to heat up, there could have also been a fire. Debris from all of the parts flying out from underneath the car could have also caused injury.
Cylinder 1 has been misfiring. Has the error code p0301. I took it in to Hyundai and they said it was just a spark plug. Changed spark plugs and coil packs and the problem resolved for a few months and now is worse. Misfires/backfires in the engine when pressing gas. Loud popping sound comes out of the engine. The car also does not drive properly. It is shaky when driving.
