The steering of the Veloster is shakey and the eps becomes tight to control while oppertating on the highway. Changing lanes and the slight turn of a curve, cause the vehicle to resist the action on the highway. The steering column also makes a clunky noise while turning left and right in operation at any speed in motion. The vehicle does not feel safe to operate while passing traffic on the highway, taking curves and exits off the highway. Presented the issue to a Hyundai dealership and they stated the coupler needs to be replaced. The cost of the part is minimal but the labor was expensive. Reserach shows the coupler of the same year as been recalled on other Hyundai vehicles however the Veloster has yet to be recalled.

During startup. When car is first ignition, while in neutral proceed to 1st gear an audible sound will be heard from right column and disappears. It will happen every start up sequence. I sent my car for service and they told me that it could be the electronic differential lock.

The steering column pops every time I make a turn, whether a sharp turn or mild. I can be parked and turn the steering wheel and it pops. There seems to be looseness in the steering.
Steering column "clunks" when turning. This appears to be a known problem with Hyundai models and is a result of a coupler? elantra models are covered under warranty why not Veloster?.

There is a clicking in the steering column. Every time I drive the car and turn the wheel it clicks and jerks. Even when your standing still, if you turn the wheel back and fourth. When on highway it vibrates and steering jerks. Took to a mechanic it will cost $500. 00 to repair. They said it was a plastic fuller in the steering column that needs to be replaced.
On this model we are experiencing a violent shake in the steering wheel. The shake starts when the car reaches around 40 mph. There is a lot of play in the steering wheel. I had my mechanic inspect the issue and as soon as he sat down a moved the steering left and right he knew what the issue was. He said the problem is a plastic bushing located in the steering column. He said that this is happening a lot in Hyundai cars including the sonata. He has already replaced 4 in last couple of months and it seems to be happening right after the warranty expires. I am 10k miles over my 60k warranty and Hyundai said there is nothing they can do. It is now going to cost me around $400 to replace a $3 part. I looked online and this issue seems to be a regular complaint with numerous complaints online stating the same issue. I have been notified by my mechanic that if that plastic bushing wears out anymore and the plastic "teeth" on the bushing wear out anymore that we could lose the ability to steer the vehicle. We cannot even drive the car on the highway because the steering shakes so violently. We noticed the issue happening about a month ago and it has just gotten worse since. I'm currently having the issue repaired by my mechanic because Hyundai will not warranty the issue as they state they have never heard of this issue which I find hard to believe because I typed it in google and found more cases on this issue than I can count.
