1 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 11/29/2024

Over the last year, I’ve had to purchase three air conditioner switches after driving for several years with it being out the first one we replaced caused a small electrical fire as did all of the others. This has been an ongoing issue not just with my car, but my sister‘s in-laws who is a 2014 model I looked online. It has been reported over the years basically since the cars come out of this same issue can you please issue a safety recall before somebody’s house or vehicle or both catches fire completely. This is not safe at all. I have already put in a request for the safety recall on several other occasions this is unacceptable unsafe and a very large problem across the united states since this vehicle has come out please do something.

3 Steering problem of the 2019 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/07/2024

While driving the vehicle has stalled/engine shuts off at different speeds and also while the vehicle's steering wheel is turned to move it into a different direction (for example making a right turn at a perpendicular street/road). There is a concern for the operator's safety and others operating around a stalling vehicle especially at higher velocity/speeds and when traffic is heavy. The dealership has recommended an engine replacement, not sure if the dealer has been able to reproduce the problem. Currently, the vehicle has only been inspected by a dealership. The flashing engine light first appeared on 06/07/2024, this would be the second time the vehicle stalled (engine shut off) on the same day.

4 Steering problem of the 2020 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

While driving my steering wheel will lock up and I’ll get an error message for lane keep assist on the dash. I never use lane keep assist so even when it’s off it does this. I have to keep turning my car off and back on for my steering wheel to unlock and the error will disappear.

5 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 05/07/2024

While driving and trying to travel in a straight line the steering wheel would bind snd stick while trying make slight corrections. This would cause the vehicle to constantly swerve from side to side. The Hyundai dealer (classic Hyundai) misdiagnosed the problem and claimed the car needed new strut bearings. An independent consultant found it was caused by an open ball bearing on the steering shaft just under the steering wheel. The bearing did not have proper dust seals and therefore allowed dirt to enter rolling race area cause the binding. This is a Hyundai design fault and should have be subject to a recall.

6 Steering problem of the 2019 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 02/03/2024

I had cruise control enabled while driving down the highway. When entering a sweeper turn, the steering wheel locked up completely and could only be moved about 1cm either direction. If this had happened on any mild turn this would have resulted in a crash. The steering wheel locked up entirely at 50mph. I was able to slowly get the car to the side of the road utilizing the 1cm of freeplay in the steering wheel. Steering would not return until I restarted the car. No lights appeared on the dash before, during, or after the incident. Component that failed was 56320-k9000 power pack assembly. Dealer replaced this under warranty after the ecu revealed the component had failed. The component is no longer available for inspection. 7 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Unknown but it threw the abs light on and off and then the oil change light come on and it stared ticking after it shut off and then I turned it on and the ticking got worse and louder and steering was cliking so I parked it and it would not go over 20 mph or pull a hill so it’s been parked ever since.

9 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 08/23/2023

The steering coupler for the mdps (motor driven power steering) was disentegrated mostly. There are 8 cutouts on the coupler. 4 catch the motor and 4 catch the steering box. Its original and made of soft rubber. The steering always seemed vague for a sports car. The new coupler dorman 926-990 looks like a urethane, some type of firmer material. The car steers perfectly now. The danger is from the chance that the coupler wouldn't catch when turning the steering wheel which supplies input to the mpds and the steering wheel would turn and the front wheels wouldn't or maybe only sort of follow the intended direction.

10 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 07/14/2023

Steering wheel is clicking with the slightest movement. After diagnostic at Hyundai they stated its a known issue , yet no recall for this model has been put out yet. Only on other Hyundai's. The diagnostic result given was the coupling was going bad. If this effects your ability to steer your vehicle I feel like this should be a safety recall. I have located several complaints about this same issue. On the Veloster forum there are multiple people experiencing this same issue.

11 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 07/13/2023

My vehicle shakes violently and causes issues when braking that can make me almmost lose control of my vehicle, my research found that is a problem with the steering coupler. Hyundai has a recall for this on other models elantra and sonata (same year as my vehicle) however they have not included the model I own, the Veloster. I have had to pay for this repair so that I can feel safe an not only protect myself but by also protecting other drivers since it would be possible to lose control of the vehicle with the violent shaking of the steering wheel and breaking. My internet research shows many other Veloster owners are facing this issue as well. I made a complaint with Hyundai customer care however after taking my complaint I have not gotten any follow up response and I have been calling them back and emailing them but my case manager has not responded. For the safety of everyone I would like NHTSA to look into this and see if a recall can be implemented on the Veloster as it has for the other Hyundai models. Thank you.

12 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 04/21/2023

When I took my car to the Hyundai dealer for recalls in April 2023 after they completed the service my steering coupler broke and I was told it would cost me 292. 00 to repair. I went this morning to get tires at flynn's and they gave me a technical service bulletin 14-st-002-1 the steering coupler and told me to call Hyundai because it should be replaced for free. I phoned Hyundai dealer and they stated this does not apply to my particular VIN #. It is definitely broken and should be applied to this vehicle.

13 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 01/04/2023

Steering coupler is the issue. I have seen hundreds of complaints about Veloster's having issues with steering couplers but yet no recall. Ridiculous! this needs to be recalled and is a major safety issue.

14 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 12/30/2022

Steering coupler went out at 23,000 miles. Not covered under warranty according to Hyundai leading to repairs in excess of $500. Many Hyundai’s have this problem and if it goes out completely the vehicle no longer has electric steering assist, the steering wheel makes a clunking sound, and the car drifts all over the road.

15 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 12/14/2022

16 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 12/13/2022

- the steering feels sticky and has "play" when trying to stay centered on the road. It is most notable on straight freeways at higher speeds (60 - 75 mph). - the safety issue is driver control and risk to driver, riders and other vehicle/drivers. The steering needs constant attention and adjustment. - the dealer confirmed its existing the first time and Hyundai eventually repaired it in 2019. The issue returned in 2021 and 2022 and the dealer confirmed it again on December 13, 2022, but Hyundai warranty declined to repair. - no other action has been initiated to review the issue with my call. A simple google search and visiting Hyundai owner forum websites show that many drivers/owners experience similar issues and do not know that it's a much larger issue or potential flaw in the steering design. - I'm not aware of any car computer codes associated with the issue. The car has been documented with chico Hyundai multiple times, so they would have that information. - fyi, this is the second occurrence, Hyundai eventually agreed to replace the steering column in 2019 after multiple visits to dealer and elevating my concern. I understand Hyundai eventually issued a service bulletin for a fix for other Hyundai owners with similar complaints. Unfortunately, after the steering column was replaced, the issue has returned. Efforts to get Hyundai to repair the re-occurring issue have failed. -while I can simply sell the car to an un-suspecting party, it seems wrong not to try to bring up the issue to you.

21 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/25/2022

A few months ago, my abs and traction control lights began to come on and off randomly. Then, new lights would pop up, such as check engine and the brake light. These lights would come on, and then go off very sporadically. In the last week, it had gotten much worse. My tire pressure light and eps light had came on as well, totaling about 6 or 7 lights that are on and won't go off. Then, my steering wheel became increasingly hard to turn, I' m guessing because the eps was off. Then, my speedometer completely stopped working, and my gas gauge was jumping up and down after I had filled it to a full tank. I pulled the code, and got code for a wheel speed sensor. I replaced the wheel speed sensor, and no lights went off. I then inspected the fuses, noticed that the abs fuse was blown, and decided to replace it. I replaced it, and the abs module (or pump) started to smoke badly. The car had a heavy electrical smoke smell and I didn't think it was safe to drive for a while. Hyundais have had recalls for abs modules smoking before, but never for a 2013 Hyundai Veloster, and I believe that is something that should be investigated because I believe I could have been injured.

22 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 06/22/2022

The power steering coupler, a star shaped part in the steering wheel has deteriorated causing a discernible click in the steering. At times this made steering difficult. The exact same part has been given extended warranty status on other Hyundai models but not the Veloster. I had to pay to have this obvious safety defect repaired today.

23 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

Same issue as numerous other Hyundai Veloster owners: steering coupler causing excessive movement in the steering column and making a clicking sound when turning the wheel. Hyundai has done a recall on this part for elantra and sonata models, but not the Veloster. The issue has been confirmed by an independent service center.

24 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 04/01/2022

26 Steering problem of the 2017 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 03/18/2022

The vacuum pump had an internal mechanical failure, resulting in complete failure of the airbag control module, electronic stability control system, power steering, abs, and speedometer. These were all shown as warning lights on the dashboard, starting with the esc, then sporadic airbag light, sporadic steering light, etc. . In the event of a crash, the airbags would not have deployed. In the event of low-traction conditions, the car would not have been able to maintain control and I could have crashed. In the event of turning across traffic, my steering could have failed and I could have crashed. Due to the speedometer malfunction, I could have been going too fast and put myself and others at risk for high-speed collision. This problem has been confirmed and repaired by a Hyundai dealership. The repairs would have been covered under warranty, but the vehicle is no longer under warranty. The dealership specified that there was nothing I could have done to prevent this failure. Occurred at 78,000 miles on March 18, 2022.

27 Steering problem of the 2014 Hyundai Veloster

28 Steering problem of the 2021 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 03/02/2022

Around 6000 miles the steering wheel froze while coming from a long highway trip and tried to veer me across 3 lanes into a wall. Had to man handle it off the roadway up the off ramp. Turned the car off, then turned it back on, and it was like nothing happened. Took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything, because they say there was no code. Well, same thing just happened again while I'm out of state. Another icon appears on the screen and my steering wheel locked up at 65 miles per hour, surrounded by 18 wheelers. Had to grip the wheel again like superman and thread between 2 trucks to make it to the right shoulder. Hurried up to turn the car off and turn it back on quickly to avoid being hit from behind by any other vehicles. It worked. Car started and acted like nothing happened again. I continued on my long trip carefully and cautiously. This was the second time at 15,000 miles on car now. I googled it and saw on other car forums the same problem, but no one has complained yet. I have to make another appointment, but I'm sure they will say the same thing. This is a big safety issue that Hyundai need to figure out and fix. I love my car, but its trying to kill me, and possibly others around me. So please investigate this issue. Thanks.

29 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Failure Date: 02/21/2022

My 2013 Hyundai Veloster turbo steering recently developed a loose range with clunking at either end of the range. Appx mileage is 70k. Research indicates it could be caused by a rubber coupler in the steering column. Other Veloster owners stated online that this seems to be a common problem and should be investigated by NHTSA for a possible recall.

30 Steering problem of the 2012 Hyundai Veloster

Be/-2ximj3km3q here is a link to someone opening up the motor to see the coupler torn to ribbons. It is the same piece as I replaced. The Veloster forum has hundreds if not thousands of reports of this problem.

32 Steering problem of the 2013 Hyundai Veloster

Steering column clicking because of worn steering wheel coupler. This could cause steering wheel to lock. Hyundai had agreed to cover the elantra and sonata for up to 10 years but not other models. This is same problem for other models. They should fix as steering column could be harmed and accidents could occur.
