I was experiencing loss of power steering/loose steering wheel in my Hyundai Veloster, which compromised my ability to control my car's steering direction and so could have resulted in an accident. There were no warning lights. I had my car inspected and the serviceman identified a worn steering coupler. I am aware that the elantra and sonata of like years have been issued a recall on the same part due to the poor material quality, but found my model did not yet have this same part recalled.

Motor driven power streering coupling replacement at 50 thousand miles, known problem with Hyundais and Veloster is not covered. Clunking sound in the wheel and loose.

Steering wheel coupler disintegration, the same as elantra models. Clicking and looseness in the steering wheel. It is present stationary or in motion. This is a very common issue with these vehicles. My vehicle has 55,000 miles.

The motor driven power steering (mdps) rubber coupler has failed which is a very common issue with this manufacture. This specific issue for the Veloster was left out of the latest service bulletin but other models with the same issue are included.

2013 Hyundai Veloster with 40,000 miles. I am the original owner. I bought the car in April 2013 and just noticed this problem in January 2020. The steering wheel feels like it has a flat spot and sticks when I turn the wheel to the left or right. This happens regardless of being stationary or driving. The sticking only happens when I initially turn the wheel. And, when I reverse the wheel to drive straight - it has that momentary flat spot feel.

The mdps flexible coupler failed and causes loose steering and clicking noise coming from the steering column.

Forward collision warning don't work at all, and clicking sound come from the front when press the gas pedal when I press the brake, when I turn left or right, that's sound is constantly all time, I see a lot of post and same car with this problem and Hyundai don't do nothing about this, I send the car to replace the cv axles and same problem sound.

Steering wheel has play in it and makes a noise thud like noise when u turn it u cant control the car its the steering coupling same as the sonata and elantra they have been recalled but not the Veloster but its the same part it just happened no warning at all this is very dangerous and needs to be recalled its the same part and problem but Hyundai hasnt recalled and needs to this car company ignores the fact they have a defective part. It just desinergrates someone is going to get hurt there is no warning at all it just happens u can just sit there and turn wheel just a lil and u can hear it and feels like there is no control in the steering wheel.

Out of the blue my steering wheel seem to become loose and starting making a click sound when turned turned to the right or left. Although other Hyundai vehicles have recalls for the same problem, my Veloster is not. It is a known problem for this car maker and they will not cover the huge bill to repair it unless you are still under a warranty. It is not safe!.

Known mdps rubber coupler failure. Steering has a clunk in it when wheel is turned left or right. There is a tbs out for other Hyundai's having this problem, but not the 2013 Veloster.

My steering wheel was dramatically clunking whenever I turned it. After taking it to a mechanic, he informed me that it was the steering coupler issue, which is apparently a problem on multiple vehicles which are being covered under an extended warranty, but not mine. I don't understand why this part, which has obviously failed in the past, is being covered under warranty on other vehicles. I have provided a picture of the part once it was removed. It is quite clearly a safety issue which could have had fatal consequences. After being charged roughly $250 in labor, I found out the part was $1. 53. It is sickening that a 2014 Veloster with 56,000 miles on it should have this problem.

My 2012 Veloster recently stared making a clicking sound whenever I turn. It shakes when I'm on the highways going 70 mph. When I run over any small bumps it makes a clacking noise and hard to control the steering wheel. If I switch lanes and run over one on the markers on the road the car feels like it slides to the side that I switch and the steering wheel is difficult to control. I don't feel safe driving this car. I checked under the steering wheel in the dashboard and there's oil liquid leaking from steering wheel area. If I'm at a stop sign and turn the steering wheel it makes the clacking sound and it feels like the steering wheel is coming loose.

There is play in the steering wheel when turning back and forth. Also hear a clicking noise. I am told there is a very inexpensive couple that needs to be replaced and that is common. I have appx 90000 miles on car. Starting noticing this about 6 months ago. I mentioned this to mechanics where I normally have car serviced. They recommended seeing hyundia and mentioned the coupler.

Steering coupler problem. Same issue on the elantra and sonata have been recalled, but not on the Veloster. I have read of many people having the issue with the coupler on their Veloster. Please help get this recalled.

Reduced steering responsiveness and clunking noise coming from behind the steering wheel. Loose steering made steering less responsive and dangerous. The rubber steering coupling between the steering transmission behind the steering wheel and the steering shaft has become brittle and broke apart. The car has 81,000 miles on it and is only seven years old. Upon further investigation the exact same parts are used on the Hyundai elantra and sonata, both of which Hyundai extended the warranties on this part to address the exact same problem. The vehicle was in motion on a highway when the problem was was first observed. The vehicle doesn't respond smoothly to steering input. This may result in a very dangerous situation.

Power steering coupler is defective and makes a rattling sound when vehicle is in motion. Several other models have been issued recalls on this part but not the Veloster. I'm wondering how much safer it is to drive Veloster this way as opposed those huyndai models that were recalled.

While driving, my steering wheel will begin to shake. This has been occurring frequently, during moments while I've driven straight and have turned. Regardless of the position of my wheel, it has increasingly began to shake, as if the wheel is out of place. The wheel has become loose. I visited a Hyundai dealership, and they identified the issue, relating it to a small, plastic part in the wheel. The dealership told me that Hyundai issued recalls for this exact part in other Hyundai vehicles, just not the Veloster. It is the same part in other Hyundai vehicles, one that has been recalled in those makes and models, but Hyundai has yet to issue a recall for this exact part in the Veloster models. This issue has made it increasingly dangerous to drive, as the dealership verbally told me that eventually, the steering will may disconnect from the vehicle.

2013 Hyundai Veloster non turbo 39,000 miles catalytic converter failure and engine failure while driving. While driving the vehicle on a rural road, the engine shut down and the car lost power. I noticed smoke from the exhaust when the engine shut down. I was able to pull the vehicle to the side of the road. Vehicle was towed to dealer where it was found the catalytic converter had failed. It was noted that the engine had a loud ticking sound that it did not have prior to the catalytic converter failure. The engine is going to be replaced with cost share from Hyundai. This is not a unique issue and has been recalled for the same exact same issue in the kia soul with the 1. 6l engine. This issue should be addressed in full by the manufacturer.

This has actually happened multiple times, each time when turning. The first time was turning left out of a parking lot, my car refused to accelerate, I had to put it into neutral and then back into drive, it finally started driving. The second time, was driving and turned left into an intersection and it just stopped. I had to turn it off and then on again before it would move. I am lucky no one was behind me. The 3rd time I was not alone in the car and again I turned left into an intersection and it just stopped. Emergency blinkers on and again, I had to turn off the car and turn it on again for it it move. The most recent was this morning when I turned right and like before, it just wouldn't move. I had to turn emergency blinkers on, and turn off and turn on car again. Living in a busy city with people that are not paying attention all the time, this is really starting to be worrisome.

Was driving and my car would not turn almost caused a seroius accident . . Took it in to be repaired the plastic coupling piece was under $20 and labor was $320. My miliage is under 55,000.

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Hyundai Veloster. While driving 45 mph, the vehicle became uncontrollable, crashed into the median, and crossed the highway. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The air bags did not deploy. A police report was filed. The contact sustained head, neck, and back injuries, which required medical attention. The vehicle was towed to an independent lot. The failure mileage was 29,000.

I own a 2012 Hyundai Veloster twd. My sunroof just exploded out of no-where and I called Hyundai and they told me that there is no recall on this issue. In addition, I need to replace a steering bushing and it is not covered in any recall and I am reading on the internet that this item has been repaired. Great car, but no accountability by this organization to fix their engineers issues.

This is from a Hyundai technical service bulletin number 17-st-001 dated from February 2017. It�fs for a motor driven power steering (mdps) coupling replacement. It makes a terrible and very loud thud sound on every little bump or hole on the road and you can�ft even talk to each other in the car it�fs so loud. This is also happening on the elantra gt, santa fe, elantra coupe and azeri models. The op code is 56300f25. Casual part #56315-2k000-fff. Nature code d61 cause code zz4.

My 2013 Veloster has 49,000 miles and it appears the rubber fitting inside the steering wheel has deteriorated. The wheel shakes and shudders violently. I'm unhappy that Hyundai has allowed owners of elantras to have their vehicles repaired under a service bulletin, but Velosters apparently do not qualify?.

I have 16,809 miles on the car I noticed steering was becoming clunky took it to the dealer and it was a coupler worn out. The dealer had it in stock and they never have anything in stock said it is usually under warranty when this happens. Well, I have low miles and for a $2. 14 part the labor brought it up to $488. 68. It seems to be a recurring problem and most cars at my mileage are still under warranty. .

Steering wheel clicks and vibrates during turns & lane changes. This issue is highly dangerous & has probably caused wrecks. I believe that the issue is in the plastic parts used. The suspension & struts are in need of replacement car is 5 years old, bought new off show room floor 2/14. 2013. Car has 80000 miles and is on the second set of low profile tires. I follow the maintenance guide in the manual.

I purchased a new 2017 Veloster in may 2018. Beginning in mid August I started to have problems with the car not stopping and the steering wheel locking when attempting to stop. It happened on 3 different occasions. Escalating each time. The first time it happened I almost hit someone in the back. The second time I almost ended up in oncoming traffic going through the stop light. The third time I got into an accident while trying to make a turn and the wheel and brakes did the same thing again. . . Making my car not driveable currently. My car has about 3000 miles on it. Each time this occurred I was on a city street with stop lights. Average speed 35-45 .

My steering wheel makes a clicking noise when turning or shifting the wheel from side to side. The steering wheel isn't tightly secured. In addition, the buttons on the steering wheel for voice control, etc. No longer works.

The steering wheel clicks when you move in any direction. It happens while driving as well as when sitting still. This is a known problem with the elantra and sonata.
