Hyundai Veracruz owners have reported 78 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Hyundai Veracruz based on all problems reported for the Veracruz.
This is referring to NHTSA recall 20v705000 a/k/a Hyundai TSB: 21-01047h-2 whereas my 2008 Hyundai Veracruz was brought into a Hyundai dealership regarding the above mentioned safety recall. Dealer refused to remedy the recall without first purchasing an otherwise irrelevant part to the remedy. The TSB clearly states all parts and labor necessary to honoring the safety recall would be granted to the consumer. This refusal to honor a recall poses a safety hazard as this vehicle is my sole form of transportation.

This is related to a repeat failure of recalls 121/197 of the 2011 Hyundai Veracruz. Oil leaks down from the top valve gasket onto the alternator causing a random and erratic electrical disturbance and failure that can happen at any time causing serious risk of safety. With the alternator being damaged in this form also put other potential electrical systems at risk of damage. This is either the 3rd or 4th time of repeat failure. Previous time has damaged the battery. Luckily this time it went out in a parking lot just before was going to drive and had complete loss of power. Vehicle had to be towed into dealer service center. Upon inspection the alternator and valve cover gasket had to be replaced out of pocket as service center claims these are not covered. Tried to escalate the issue to Hyundai motor corporation to be reimbursed and was given a case manager. After a couple days I was told the original 121 recall is to old and not covered under warranty anymore and repairs were already made. I explained that recall 197 is a continuation of the previous 121 and she had to check back with the service center. A couple days later she reports back that they still will not cover the costs as the repairs have already been done before in the past. This time when received vehicle back from service center turns out the steering wheel tilt and telescoping module no longer functions. Costs of alternator $1832. 99 costs of valve cover gasket $313. 31 totaling $2146. 30 that is suppose to be covered due to the recalls. Not repaired because of hassle between service center and Hyundai motorcorp refusal to reimburse anything is the steering wheel tilt/telescoping module quoted at $1096. 06 included photo is taken of the alternator prior to being towed and clearly shows the over time build up of dripping oil all over it.

The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at an undisclosed speed, the brakes seized in the middle of the highway. The contact stated that several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact's wife and a nearby driver were able to guide the vehicle to the shoulder of the roadway. The contact's wife raised the hood, and the contact became aware that smoke was coming from the abs module accompanied by electrical sparks. The contact’s wife turned the vehicle off. The contact noticed that the aluminum abs module casing was burned. The contact disconnected the battery and the abs fuse, which stopped the smoke and the electrical sparks. The vehicle was then driven to the residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.
Abs anti-lock brake system failure (abs control unit) as seen in NHTSA campaign #23v651000, for newer year models, the anti-lock brake system (abs) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving. This recall should also include 2008-2010 Hyundai Veracruz's as the abs module is the same part number and can leak brake fluid. This can lead to serious injury or death as the car may not function as intended or catch on fire. I noticed a strong burning smell similar to burning toast when the car was dropped off at the shop. My mechanics noticed my abs control unit had liquid coming out of the poorly sealed module, and told me to report this to the ntsha. The unit had to be replaced for about $3800. The first symptom is the esc light flashing while driving. Others include the awd light, brake light, abs light, and, traction control lights. On many forum's like the link shown below other people have experienced this issue on the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz as well. This indicate that the recall should be pushed to all Veracruz models. Hyundai should be responsible for the safety of all Veracruz owner's just not a few. . Read more...

On the dashboard and stereo there are no lights when I turn on the cars automatic lights. It seems to be an electrical short. I brought it up to Hyundai because of the recall and they were very unhelpful. I called 15 different Hyundai dealerships in the los angeles area asking for a loaner vehicle which none of them were able to provide for me. After I stated I already have an electrical short, they insisted that my car was not effected by the recall. And they would even write a letter to my insurance company stating that my car was not effected by the recall. They told me to continue driving my car like normal. I feel extremely unsafe and not taken care of by the Hyundai team. They continued to push off my concerns. The dealership has confirmed that the recall does effect my VIN number. However, they said there is no way to find out if the electrical short is from the recall or not. So they want to bill me $225 for a diagnosis. They have no inspected it because they will not do so without charging me the $225 which I refuse to pay for because of their recall. The electrical short problem has been an issue since I purchased the car. I asked the dealer I bought it from and he did not know what it was from. Months later I receive this letter in the mail stating there is an important safety recall on my car and Hyundai won’t do anything about it.

My car broke down in the middle of the highway. I could not move my car. It was stuck in neutral, but still would not move. I had already switched out the battery, but the battery and engine light was still on. I come to find out it is my alternator. And I feel it is leaking into the alternator, making a crash hazard.

Tired of engine and electrical failures. As recently as 7/11/2023, I brought my vehicle, 2011 Veracruz limited fwd SUV, to the brandon (FL) Hyundai delaer for a supposed recall repair. I brought in the car, and picked it up the following day, and was assured that the recall (due to "leaky head gaskets") was taken care as well as the check engine (ce) light - the alternator was not replaced (as I had replaced it on 6/28/23 [$241. 86 + tax]) with the excuse "it had passed all tests". A couple of days later, the ce light came back. I brought in the car again 7/24/23 and was told upon pick up that same day, that the engine "had a connector loose". Back on the road again, on 7/27/23 the ce light came up again. I decided to check the car myself and noticed: #1. No (recall related) work had been done!!; #2. I decided to see what the ce light meant (p0420) so I removed the bank 1 catalytic converter and was astounded at the enormous amount to oil leaking and covering every nook and crany of the front engine - pictures included!! I purchased a new exhaust manifold gasket ($23. 30 + tax) and throttle body spray cleaner ($38. 43 + tax) to repair and take it back to the dealer for a thorough check up - keeping my fingers crossed. This has been the latest expenses in a litany of expenses (tools, parts, chemicals, related accesories), time off, trips to the dealer and what not in the history of this SUV since I purchased back in 8/2010. Hyndai has refussed to pay a penny for all my expenses or repairs all the way to te point of charging for a recall repair never done! btw, I have had the alternator replaced, by myself and by the same dealer, four (4) times!!.
I have had the same thing happen to me3 times with this Hyundai. It is a 2010 Veracruz. Twice before. It was repaired under the warranty, and then the recall. This time, it left me on the road>> dead>> with no power and no warning. This was extremely dangerous, and I could have been killed if it had failed while I was turning. I was, thankfully, in a turning lane. I had it towed again to Hyundai, where they "repaired it" after having my car for 8 days. We traded it back to them, because it is too dangerous for me to drive anymore. As I mentioned , it was supposed to have been fixed twice before.
The car would not start so we had it towed to a local repair shop. (the closest Hyundai dealer is located 91 miles (182 round trip). The local shop diagnostics indicated an oil leak in the valve cover gasket which dripped onto the alternator and the drive belt. The obvious way to fix the problem was to replace the valve cover gasket, the alternator and the drive belt. The parts were obtained from an online parts distributor. The diagnostic work was done by the shop and the labor was performed by a well known master mechanic with over 25 years of experience and is recognized by the ase. I filed several claims with Hyundai who keep coming up with reasons why they can't pay the claim for a total $600. 00 out of pocket cost. The car was fixed 7/9/2021 and has run great since then with no leakage! I have filed claims several times and each time they request more documentation be furnished. The latest rejection is dated 5/16/2023 and Hyundai has assigned a consumer case #21314437.
Our esc light comes on occasionally, many times when making a left turn. Then the throttle quits and the car slows down. We had it in the shop 6 times with no repair.
The contact owns a 2012 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact had NHTSA campaign number: 20v705000 (engine and engine cooling) completed over a year ago. The contact stated that once the recall was completed she was having main battery failures. The contact stated that she had to have the battery jump started multiple times. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic to have the vehicle diagnosed. The mechanic advised her that the alternator and ignition systems were functional. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that she had to replace the battery more than five times and still the cause of the failure could not be determined. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 70,000.
Car stall battery light came on steering became hard.
While driving to work today on 1/21/2022 my vehicle was traveling at about 35 mile per hours when it suddenly began to slow and was unresponsive to my effort to maintain speed, and then several dashboard warning lights including the check engine light, charging system light, seatbelt light, and then the car began to have a loss of power and stalled. I did have my alternator and battery replaced in February of 2021 when this happened previously. Then I received a notice of NHTSA recall 20v705000 and had the remedy repaired completed in August 2022. I did attempt to have Hyundai USA reimburse me for my alternator repair and a previous repair I paid for related to the fault valve covers gaskets, but they refused my request for reimbursement. Now the problems and potential hazard remains. Thank you.
My vehicle was under a recall. The engine lights started going off so I immediately turned around and headed back home. By the time I got home, my vehicle was close to stalling. It would not go beyond 3rd gear and would not go into reverse. I parked it on the street in front of my home and the vehicle stalled do to a failed alternator. The vehicle was towed to the dealer. The dealer honored only part of the recall. They replaced the valve gasket/t joint but they would not replace the alternator because "it was not oil soaked". The alternator was previously replaced under the first recall and it is clear that this second alternator failed and should have been replaced as part of this second recall. My issue is that Hyundai is not honoring the recall. I was forced to pay out of pocket $996. 94 to have my alternator replaced. I have contacted the Hyundai customer care center multiple times since November 2021 regarding this issue. I'm seeking that they honor the recall by reimbursing me but they have not followed up.
Recall 197. Oil leak from valve cover gasket. Hyundai has refused to repair this. I've broken down 2 times in the last year. I've spent over $2000 on repairs. Hyundai refuses to reimburse me or repair the vehicle. What can you do to help.
Hyundai has had this recall #197 open since 2014 and still does not have a solution? I just got another letter on 7-22-21 saying the same thing that they have been saying for seven years with zero resolution yet in place. I finally took the time to read the other complaints about electrical problems and the car seizing up nd being dead and this is exactly what is happening to my 2010 Hyundai Veracruz as I write this. How can this ongoing problem not be addressed and fixed by Hyundai for over 7 years now! what is the NHTSA doing about this? I now am looking at a seriously expensive repair for this problem because Hyundai simply is ignoring all of the complaints about this dangerous situation. The local dealerships I call don't want to touch it until the remedy is available or want us to pay for it and try and recover the cost later. This is unacceptable and I want to know what this government agency NHTSA is doing about it. Hyundai customer service is of no real help. They just advise to get it fixed and hope for a remedy later, but this type of problem is truly dangerous and I do not want my family put in jeopardy of an accident due to the car going dead as it has done twice so far at my home. Please make Hyundai solve this problem now and actively reach out to the owners of these vehicles with a solution that will cost nothing to the owners. I am on social security and cannot afford to put out approximately $1,000 and hope to get it back someday from Hyundai. I feel Hyundai is allowing this problem to go on due to not wanting to spend the money to fix this problem while they hope that it just goes away. Please do something now!!!.
Nov 13,2020 manufacturer recall number197 NHTSA recall number20v705000 recall statusrecall incomplete summary Hyundai motor America is recalling certain 2007-2012 Veracruz vehicles that were previously recalled under recall number 14v-415. An inoperative charginig system can result in an engine stall, increasing the risk of a crash. This recall has never been addressed and it is my feeling that Hyundai motor America is just letting it go without corrective actions until all of the models are off the road and they don't have to address this at all, also the problem is well understated as the oil not only gets on the alternator but the belt system that poses an even mere berater risk. If the NHTSA will monitor each safety recall to make sure owners receive safe, free, and effective remedies from manufacturers according to the safety act and federal regulations, than why are they not addressing this? although my car had 293000 miles on it it could have made another 200000 miles if Hyundai motor America would have taken steps to correct this? after sending an email (will upload) they seemed to question me on the vehicle but after learning a junked the car they appear to take the stand that that owe me nothing not even the time of day, and I would like to file a formal complaint against Hyundai motor America for lack effort to resolve this issue as this year alone I have gotten 5 recall notices stating no repair available?.
My vehicle (2012 Veracruz) is currently under recall campaign #197 for Hyundai. This incomplete recall has been in place since November 2020 with no solution provided yet as of July 2021. I have owned this vehicle for six years, and have already had to replace the alternator twice (2015 & 2019) due to the very same issue with the oil leak on the alternator. I 2019, my Veracruz died in the middle of the road when the alternator suddenly went out. I was the exact serious safety risk indicated in this current recall #197. I am now the mother of a newborn baby and two year old son. This is our primary family vehicle. We are unable to rely on it as a safe and dependable vehicle for our family because of the open and incomplete recall. The dealership has told me that I have to pay out of pocket for any diagnostic and repair at this point, even if tied to the recall. (I can apply later for reimbursement. ) I want Hyundai to give a time expected for a solution to this recall immediately or I want Hyundai/dealership to pay for any diagnostic and repair services that may be related to this recall #197 and alternator issue. This is unacceptable. I have contacted Hyundai customer care and been told that since my car is out of warranty, I must pay for any diagnostic and repair for alternator issues. Again, unacceptable when I am receiving monthly notices from Hyundai that there is a clear alternator problem and safety concern. When is the solution to this recall going to be provided? when will this company accept liability for this issue?.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated she received recall notice NHTSA campaign 20v705000 (electrical). The contact stated that she received the recall a few months ago and was trying to go get it repaired, however the dealer is constantly advising her that parts are not available. The contact stated that she is afraid that her vehicle may turn off while driving as that is what the vehicle has done in the past without warning, due to the alternator. The mileage failure was 260,000.
This complaint is for NHTSA recall number 20v-705/Hyundai recall number 197. This recall notice has been out for almost 6 months now and there is still no remedy or any help from Hyundai corporate or local dealerships. My car has been sitting un-useable for the past month because of this recall and no dealership will take my car. I have called Hyundai USA and there is nothing they can do for me. This recall has gone for far too long.
We purchased the vehicle in 2016 from a dealer with a known recall because of an oil leak. That was fixed in the first month of purchase. Fast forward to summer of 2019, we have the same issue. We purchased a new alternator ourselves after finding the first one terribly messy with oil, replaced it, and continued on. The oil leak continued. Jump to christmas 2020, it dies again. Replaced the battery and the alternator this time. Less than 2 weeks later we get a letter stating there is a recall and they're working on a fix. It is now may 2021 and no fix has been announced. With the amount of travel we've done over the last 2 years (less than 20k miles), you'd think it would hold a while longer. Think again. This week the alternator dies again and I have an appointment set for 3 weeks from today with a Hyundai dealership, and no recall in sight. I'm getting pretty frustrated with Hyundai as they know about the problem, tried to patch it up 5 years ago, and just now are finding that the fix didn't work for a handful of vehicles. We are out of a car and Hyundai isn't taking any responsibility for it. Luckily my family is handy and we can replace parts like this in just a few hours on a weekend, but a part that's supposed to last for years has been replaced 3 times in the last 2 years. Unacceptable.
The contact owns a 2011 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated while driving approximately 20 mph and making a left turn, the vehicle loss motive power without warning. The vehicle was towed an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the alternator had failed and needed to be replaced. The alternator was replaced and the failure was remedied. The local dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was not contacted. The contact indicated that the vehicle had previously been serviced under the NHTSA campaign number: 20v705000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the failure occurred. The failure mileage was 64,000.

2007 Hyundai Veracruz awd limited died while young female driving in dark, winter, remote location. Towed to nearby reputable repair center. Front valve cover gasket & rebuilt (no new available for this old of veracrus) alternator installed and owner notified of up and coming recall not yet formalized: NHTSA # 20v705000 recall #197. Paperwork submitted to Hyundai along with extensive proof of work completed thru receipts and pictures. Hyundai International indicated closest Hyundai service center would have to sign off on work completed. That Hyundai dealership refused to sign off that work had been completed. Stating oil still in area. Failed to notify young female that bottom oil gasket leaking as well as other problems. Owner drove back to original repair shop that performed recall #197 work where inspection showed bottom gasket failure which was replaced. . . Nothing to do with recall but could have caused major other failures if not identified and addressed. Since that time, female stranded again remotely when rebuilt alternator failed. Repair shop warrantied part but not labor associated with, as no new alternators are or were made available for 2007 Hyundai Veracruz recall. To this day, Hyundai has failed to reimburse owner for original recall performed nearing $1000 in repair costs plus additional $500 for rebuilt alternator failure as Hyundai has failed to make new retrofit parts to complete recall #197. Hyundai International closed this case with no action on their part. Please advise.
