Abs anti-lock brake system failure (abs control unit) as seen in NHTSA campaign #23v651000, for newer year models, the anti-lock brake system (abs) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving. This recall should also include 2008-2010 Hyundai Veracruz's as the abs module is the same part number and can leak brake fluid. This can lead to serious injury or death as the car may not function as intended or catch on fire. I noticed a strong burning smell similar to burning toast when the car was dropped off at the shop. My mechanics noticed my abs control unit had liquid coming out of the poorly sealed module, and told me to report this to the ntsha. The unit had to be replaced for about $3800. The first symptom is the esc light flashing while driving. Others include the awd light, brake light, abs light, and, traction control lights. On many forum's like the link shown below other people have experienced this issue on the 2008 Hyundai Veracruz as well. This indicate that the recall should be pushed to all Veracruz models. Hyundai should be responsible for the safety of all Veracruz owner's just not a few. . Read more...

Recall 197. Oil leak from valve cover gasket. Hyundai has refused to repair this. I've broken down 2 times in the last year. I've spent over $2000 on repairs. Hyundai refuses to reimburse me or repair the vehicle. What can you do to help.

The valve cover gasket is leaking oil on to the alternator. The alternator is covered in oil, possibly causing it to short out which could lead to a loss of power while driving. This is a dangerous condition.

The esc light went on while driving, and when I stopped and attempted to put the car in park, the shifter would not go past neutral.
This is mostly from memory with most recent data reported. My 2008 veracuz has had the valve cover gasket repaired or replaced a minimum of 4 times since I purchased it on 4/30/09 from o'brien Hyundai. The first time was about 2 years after I bought it. Dealer found leak during oil change and attempted to seal with a silicone. That was unsuccessful and valve cover gasket was replaced. A year plus later I was driving home when I could not got faster that 35 mph. When I drove into my development, the max speed was 10 mph. I barely got into my driveway and the car stopped. It turned out that oil from a leaking valve cover gasket had shorted the alternator and the car had been running on the battery. Car was towed and both the alternator and valve cover gasket were replaced under warranty. In 2014, there was a recall for the leaking valve cover gasket problem and my car was repaired again. In November of 2018, the service tech at o'brien Hyundai found an oil leak during an oil change but was uncertain of the source. He put a dye in the oil and requested that I return after 2000 miles so he could inspect for the leak source. I took it back after 2 weeks and was told that the leak was from the timing chain cover gasket. However, the timing chain cover gasket, the valve cover gasket, the water pump and the alternator were all replaced under the power train warranty. In September, the "new" alternator failed and had to be replaced along with a drive belt at my expense. The fact that the valve cover gasket has been replaced multiple times in my vehicle makes me concerned that the engine design has a latent defect which can and has resulted in my vehicle losing power while in used creating a potentially deadly situation. A search on the internet shows me that my situation is not atypical and should be thoroughly investigated by your agency.
Vehicle frequently is locked into gear, recently stuck in park while blocking a busy drive-thru. The vehicle has also become stuck in drive making in nearly imposible to safely leave the vehicle parked in our enclosed garage. This has become a frequently occuring issue and more of a safety issue than we previously thought.
Esc off light stays on despite pushing button to turn on esc, until restart then will go off. Also have problem with gear shifter not wanting to shift as if it is sticky. Here again turn off and back on problem goes away comes back with esc off problem. This problem starts off as car is being driven.
Regarding service brakes, hydraulic: switches: brake light recall for 2007 Hyundai Veracruz, NHTSA reference #09v122000. My 2007 Veracruz suffers from some of the exact problems described in the recall but is not included in the recall. The recall describes the following: "a stop lamp switch malfunction may also affect the operation of the brake-transmission shift interlock feature so the transmission shifter would not be able to be shifted out of the park position. It may also cause the electronic stability control (esc) malfunction light to illuminate. " for the past 3 years the esc light on my 2007 Veracruz has illuminated periodically while driving or when starting the car, and it will remain on until the engine is shut off. Pressing the esc on/off button on the dash will not shut the light off while in park or driving. Turning the car off is the only way to turn the light off. I contacted the local Hyundai dealer and described the problem, their answer was that the light illuminating is normal and not to worry. Also, for the past 3 months, periodically the automatic transmission shifter will not shift out of park. You must shut off and restart the car a few times for the transmission to operate. I believe that these problems are directly related to the recall and my Veracruz should be included so that my vehicle operates properly. Thank you.
Over the past month or so, this Veracruz has suddenly and without warning accelerated at top speed, and I could not stop it with the brakes. I had to turn the engine off in the middle of traffic. This is incredibly dangerous-I dont even want to drive the car. Someone could easily get injured or worse.

I have had issues with my car being in drive and then when I stop not being able to get it to go into park. The esc light is also on.
Esc light and abs light have come on intermittently since we bought the vehicle in 2010. They usually went back off after stopping the car and shutting off the engine. The other night while driving down a highway at 70mph, those 2 lights and the awd light came on and are not turning off. Looking on internet, I see these 3 lights coming on is fairly common and can be a safety hazard. Wonering if/when this might be addressed asa recall.
Abs, awd and esc lights coming on and staying on at 90,000 miles. The issue is a faulty rear wheel speed sensor. Dealer wants $1,200 to replace the sensor! they claim the sensor cannot be replaced without replacing the rear axle. This is a terrible safety issue to have over an inexpensive sensor. It is ridiculous that the axle must be replaced to replace the sensor.
The esc light is constantly illuminated when the car power is on. Rear brake lights intermittently don't come on while driving. Frequently unable to shift the car out of park (which we have to perform manually with a screwdriver and the override switch in the shifter console). Due to previous recalls, we have discontinued using cruise control because we aren't sure whether or not it will disengage when braking. These problems began over 6 months ago. They are very much a safety issue! despite identical problems in nhtsc campaigns for this year/make/model vehicle -- a campaign has not appeared for my vehicle's VIN.
I am the 2nd owner of this 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The esc, abs and brake warning lights have been illuminated for months. Two dealers were unable to tell me the issue or to get the lights to turn off. Offered many services (not the awd module). The awd light would occasionally illuminate and I would lose cruise control and speedometer. Mid-March, the car became difficult to start - would turn over but wouldn't stay running once it was placed in drive and stalled a number of times in traffic (very dangerous! imagine left turns across a 2-lane highway!) I have gotten all the recall work done including the alternator and leaky valve cover gasket (not plural). This is a very dangerous problem that is common with these cars. I understand the module is around $2500 to fix and car is just past warranty when these issues start. I cannot with good conscious sell this to another human. Please make them issue a recall! thank you!.
The contact owns a 2008 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to shift into park. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 140,000. The VIN was not available.
The car just failed and did not have power. Lights came on and then car stopped. It is recall 121 from Hyundai but they will not fix the problem because they have no solution. I tried to fix it once before but I was told I had to pay my own bill and they might reimburse me because they have no long term fix for the issue. But my car died because of it and they say that is my problem because I have 151k miles on the car. I spoke to many people at Hyundai and no one would take responsibility. That is crazy that they know it is a problem but will not own up to fixing it for me.
Randomly after pulling up to a stop in my garage, I cannot move my shifter from drive to park. I can only move it back and forth from neutral to drive. After turning the car on and off multiple times in neutral it allowed me to put the car into park. I could not back out of my garage, nor could I put it into park, a serious safety concern. I called Hyundai corporate and they told me the recall for it has already been done, but it is doing it now every time I want to put it into park. The esc off light comes on without pushing the button and the car is stuck in drive.
This report is being filed out of my concern for the transmission's integrity and performance; a problem that doesn't seem to exist to dealership maintenance personnel. While most transmission complaints are no doubt speed related, this problem occurs when the car is slowing or downshifting. It consistently "clunks" as the car readies for stop. My concern is that the clunk will manifest itself at highway speeds and fail entirely. And that is a serious safety issue for me and my family.
Tl-the contact owns a 2011 Hyundai vera cruz. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 50 mph, all of the warning indicators on the instrument panel illuminated. The accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle failed to accelerate above 30 mph. The failure recurred two times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed that oil was leaking on the alternator and caused the alternator to fail and need to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired under NHTSA campaign number: 14v415000 (engine and engine cooling) however, the remedy failed to prevent the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately was 51,000. Sg.
At random times, I cannot move my shifter from drive to park and it seems to correspond with the esc light turning on without pushing the button. I can only move the shifter from drive to neutral and have to leave the car ignition partially on and cannot lock the vehicle. Obviously a safety concern! I have brought it to the local dealer only to be told there is nothing wrong with the esc control even after the recall bulletin. The dealer just did a fix relating to the oil leak issue and told him it was also doing the shift issue. Picked vehicle up 9/25/14 as everything was supposed to be resolved but only to have the shifter and esc issue again on 9/27 and 9/29/14. Called dealer and am bringing in vehicle again today 9/29/14.
Jul 2012 - gasket leaked and killed alternator and battery. Car stopped suddenly and needed to be towed to the dealrship. Dealer fixed the alternator and gasket but I had to pay for battery. Jul 2013 - alternator died while driving and battery light came on. I had to pay for altenator change $550 as I was above 60,000 miles.
Tl-the contact owns a 2007 Hyundai Veracruz. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to start without warning. On a separate occasion, the contact stated the vehicle failed to accelerate pass 35 mph. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 170,000. Ss.
While driving at 70 the car jerked, completely stopped accelerating. There was no response when pressing the gas pedal. Luckily we were near an exit, we were not rear ended by a truck and were able shift lanes and to roll off and put our hazard lights on. After checking the engine, a local service mechanic was able to determine there was an error code related to the throttle control. On restarting the car the engine lights reset and the car ran normally. Returning home we brought the car back to Hyundai. We were told there was nothing they could do as there were no error codes in memory even though there was a technical service bulletin regarding the throttle sensor. I was told that they would not do anything until an error was recorded in the memory of the computer because Hyundai USA would not cover anything under warranty. When I asked if it was likely to occur again, I was told it most likely would happen soon and too be careful. A month later it happened again traveling at about 65 mile per hour. This time there was no shoulder but I was able to partial pull of the road and put on my hazard lights as cars drove by and avoided hitting mine. This same situation occurred four (4) more times as I was able to get my car finally back home to the Hyundai dealer to service the car. The Hyundai dealer replaced both the throttle sensor and the pedal assembly. Having researched the problem with acceleration, I have learned that many others have experienced this similar and potentially dangerous problem. After speaking with other Hyundai service technicians I was told off the record that this was not an uncommon problem. As the throttle position sensor is less than $29 I am not sure why Hyundai did not address this problem when I first brought the car or as a recall as the consequences could be much more serious.

While driving, it felt like a jerk or shift in the engine two times and then the accelerator stopped working. I coasted into a parking lot and called a tow truck. Not five minutes earlier I had been driving 65 miles an hour on interstate 35 - an extremely busy and fast-moving highway. If the problem had happened then, I have no doubt that a terrible accident would have been the result. The service representative at the Hyundai dealership said it was probably the throttle position sensor and that this was a "common problem. " the sensor is being replaced as I type. I looked online on edmunds car space and found several other Hyundai owners complaining of the same problem as far back as 2007 (probably even before). This is a life endangering problem that Hyundai is apparently ignoring until owners bring in their vehicles.
Vehicle has had two throttle body assemblies changed by the dealer. In addition, there have been multiple (in excess of 8 dealer visits) over the past two years. The check engine light illuminates--then there is an unresponsive throttle--sometimes incapacitating the vehicle. Other times during normal driving--the throttle becomes unreliable. Intermittently the throttle is unresponsive when depressed normally then the vehicle surges forward. This makes throttle modulation almost impossible at times. Sometimes from a complete stop--the throttle hesitates then surges--almost resulting in hitting the vehicle in front. The vehicle makes merging in normal traffic or lane changes unpredictable. Dealer has made multiple attempts to correct. Told by dealership after a complete software revision installed in 11-09 that the vehicle was one of only three in the nation having this problem. With the throttle response being frequently unresponsive and unpredictable the vehicle is unsafe.
Since I purchase this vehicle I had three alternators installed and several batteries, I believe there is a short in the wires, but the company only wants to replace the parts. The problem is as you are driving with out warning the vehicle just shuts down on you. Thank god I was on locals streets both times and not a highway this happen 1st time 1/2010 then 9/7/2010 on this date got check engine turn out to be software error po300 random misfire but stall engine twice and now 8/10/2011 again alternator.
Esc off light is illuminated and shifter will not move out of reverse gear.
