3 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Hyundai XG350

Failure Date: 11/08/2013

I own a 2004 Hyundai Xg350l that is having accelerator issues. On several occasions, while stopped / idling, or slowing down, the vehicle will suddenly accelerate. This is while the brake is being applied. I can be setting at a stop light or stop sign with foot on the brake, not the accelerator, ( I do not drive with both feet like some people incorrectly do : ) and suddenly the car will rev up and try and accelerate forward. In other cases, I can be slowing down with brake applied, and again, the vehicle will accelerate forward. I have to really "mash" the brake to prevent the car from accelerating forward. Once I bring the car to a stop, and the car is still trying to accelerate, I will have to put the shifter into neutral, and turn the car off. I can let the car sit for several minutes, restart it, and it will usually be back to normal. Luckily, I have not had any accidents as a result of this issue, as some of the other people who have posted complaints have. . . . . . Yet. On several other occasions, it has been just the opposite. . . . . . . . . . I will be driving down the road at any given speed, and suddenly the car will just stop accelerating & go to an idle. You can press the gas petal to the floor, and the accelerator will not respond. The car will remain running, but will only idle. I once had to drive approx. 8 miles, in the emergency lane, at an idle speed of about 5-10 mph to reach my destination : ( these where once sporadic occurrences, but now happens on a daily bases. I just recently replaced the throttle position sensor, and this did not fix the problem. I have learned that it could be caused by the "accelerator petal position sensor"; Hyundai pn:35357-3b011. There is obviously a serious issue w/ accelerator problems w/ the Xg350, sonata & santa fe, that Hyundai needs to address. I have read of cases w/ Hyundai acceleration problems that have caused deaths.

6 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Hyundai XG350

Failure Date: 11/28/2010

We have a 2004 Hyundai xg 350, on at least a half a dozen occasions, while coming to a stop, the car would suddenly accelerate and would not stop while pressing on the brake, luckily we were able to avoid any accidents. We took it to our local Hyundai dealer on 10/20/10, they told us it was the throttle position sensor, they replaced it, said it was fixed. Yesterday, 11/28/10, it did the exact same thing again, only this time we weren't as lucky. My husband tried to stop as he pulled into our driveway, the car suddenly accelerated, and he ran into the front of our house. The front bumper of the car has minimal damage, our house has a huge dent in the front of it. Needless to say, it could have been much worse, he wasn't injured, but he or someone else could have been. The car is currently at our local dealership again, they called today and said they couldn't find a problem with it and Hyundai says they have no record of this problem on this model of car, so imagine my surprise to find several complaints on the NHTSA website. Someone is covering up this problem somewhere, I hope it doesn't take someone getting seriously injured or killed for something to be done about it.

7 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Hyundai XG350

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

On three occasions over about 4-5 month period ending July 2010 I experienced sudden unintended acceleration with my 2005 Hyundai xgl350. The first 2 times I was stopped at a red light and the car started to accelerate unexpectedly. I already had the brake depressed for the traffic stop and had to press the brake as hard as possible to prevent the car from taking off. The unexpected acceleration surge lasted about 5 seconds then ended. The car did move forward but in both cases I did not have any injuries or damages. I did not take the car in for service after either of these incidents. The third incident happened on July 25, 2010 in norfolk, va. I was parking between two cars in a restaurant parking lot. The parking space faced a curb which boarded some floral landscaping. With my foot on the brake at all times I very slowly pulled in and started bringing the car to a stop the car about 3 - 4 feet from the curb. Before the car came to a stop it began to unexpectedly rev up and accelerate forward. I pressed on the brake as hard as possible but the cars front wheels manage to climb over the curb and move the front of the car into bushes before the acceleration ended and I was able to regain control of the car. I put the car in reverse and backed down over the curb. On that same day I drove the car for about 12 hours returning from virginia to new york and did not experience any unexpected acceleration problems. I plan to bring the car into the Hyundai service on July 27, 2010 to investigate and hopefully fix the problem.

12 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2004 Hyundai XG350

Failure Date: 04/15/2005

This is an update of my previous reported found on your odi number 10118222. My car accelerated when I applied the brakes to my 2004 Hyundai Xg350. This car and many other Hyundai models use a drive- by- wire system. I have found over 300 similar complaints on companies that use drive- by- wire. These cars are defective products and include 2002-2005 Hyundai, kia, Toyota, and Mitsubishi. In my case two different Hyundai engineers could not find the problem. An independent inspector can prove I had my foot on the brake and not the gas pedal when trying to stop, but no luck. Some injuries have already been reported and perhaps there have been people killed who can not report their accident. There were 3 people killed in my area driving Hyundai cars. The report in our news paper of the accident read as if the sudden acceleration problem caused the accidents. I am requesting that you open up an investigation on Hyundai cars that accelerate when braking. Also if at all possible the investigation should include all car manufacturers that use drive- by- wire systems. These cars are safety issues and there are enough complaints to prove it. The cars are potential bombs and a danger to passengers in the car and other cars on the road. Some action must be taken to prevent additional injuries and possible deaths from these cars.

14 Car Accelerates On Its Own problem of the 2005 Hyundai XG350

Failure Date: 10/28/1018

My 2005 Hyundai Xg350 has experienced sua, (sudden unwanted acceleration) twice in the last 3 months. This is a very serious and dangerous safety problem that has been reported to Hyundai motor America and the NHTSA too many times. Twice, I pulled into a parking spot and while applying the brake, the car accelerated and I was unable to stop it , even when I stepped on the brake very hard. I wonder why, after so many complaints to Hyundai motor America and the NHTSA, that this very dangerous safety issue didn't warrant a recall, since this problem goes back to 2006.
