5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 12/21/2020

Vehicle was in motion on a city street when the engine seemed to acquire a life of its own and sped up, unresponsive to drivers application of brakes for several seconds. As driver brought the vehicle to a stop, a puff of white smoke emerged from under the hood.

7 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/23/2016

The contact owns a 2004 infinti G35. While driving 55 mph, the vehicle experienced unintended acceleration without warning. The accelerator pedal became stuck and the engine revved rapidly. The brake pedal was depressed numerous times before the vehicle came to a stop. The engine was turned off and smoke emitted from underneath the hood. There were no flames visible. After restarting, the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 120,000.

8 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2016

While on the freeway, the car died with no warning then took several seconds to restart. When started, the vdc, slip, and engine light where all on. Car was taken to a private mechanic where 2 codes for the camshift position center were given. The car is hard to start and often dies during idle time. When checking on the recall, my VIN was not one listed, however it appears to have the same camshaft sensor identified by Infiniti.

9 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 04/10/2014

Was maneuvering a gentle right hand curve on a 4 lane city street. The car just simply died. Without the engine running the power steering was nullified and the vehicle wanted to continue in a straight line. Approximately 200 ft. Ahead there was an area with a driveway belonging to the water dept. Which I was able to wrestle the vehicle onto, out of traffic. The car would not restart and aaa was called. It was towed to the garage where the mechanic informed me the cam position sensor was faulty and the vehicle was repaired with a new one. About a year later the same thing occurred again as I was turning a corner. Without power steering or brakes I collided with the vehicle waiting at the light. Fortunately, my speed was 10 to 15 mph and damage to both vehicles was minimal. The cam position sensor was again, the culprit. Last wed. 4/29/15, there was another occurrence then again today 5/3/15, yet another. With the last two, the car was quickly put in neutral and restarted. Research revealed malfunctions with both the cam position sensor and the crankshaft position sensor were cause for a recall with Infiniti but it seems everyone that had submitted a thread concerning the problem reported the VIN number on their vehicle was not on the "list" that qualified for any action from the manufacturer. What??? if this life threating occurrence is happening to literally dozens of Infiniti owners, why is there a qualifing list???.

10 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2014

Car faltered at normal traffic speed, threatened to stop running, shifted awkwardly, drove erratically -- to the point that the vehicle seemed a danger to myself and other drivers -- then was difficult to start once stopped. There was a recall for the same affected part on the same make and model and year, but didn't involve my particular VIN -- this campaign (03v455000) perhaps should be readdressed to include additional vehicles.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2013

While driving at any speed it will suddenly go into "slip " mode. The service engine, vdc off, and slip warning lights come on, the accelerator stops functioning and the engine coasts. This is extremely dangerous in traffic. There is an active campaign that I have included below on the same vehichles the previous year and some from 2004. When I contacted Infiniti multiple times about my vehicle with the same problem they refused to include my car. Summary: on certain passenger vehicles, the circuit board for the crank position sensor or cam position sensor may have an improper solder joint due to solder deformation caused by heat stress accelerated by the existence of flux residue during the soldering process. Consequence: this could cause the "service engine soon" warning light to come on, create a no start condition, cause reduced engine power, or cause the engine to stop running without warning during vehicle operation, which could result in a crash. Remedy: dealers will replace the crank position sensors. Camshaft position sensor(s), and in some cases, the variable timing control sensor(s). Vehicles involved in a previous recall campaign, 01v357, are also included in this new campaign. The replacement sensors used in that campaign are also affected. Owner notification began on December 22, 2003. Owners should contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261 or Infiniti at 1-800-662-6200. Notes: Nissan recall no. R3022/Infiniti recall no. R3021. Customers can also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-888-dash-2-dot (1-888-327-4236).

12 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/21/2013

The vq35de Infiniti G35 engine consumes oil quickly. Roughly about 1qt/1000 miles. This car was bought used in 2009 with 35,000 miles. Oil changes with filter and plug have been made habitually every 3,000 miles with mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 or 10w-30 depending on the season. I see that this is a common problem amongst other vq35de users on both the Infiniti G35 and Nissan 350z. This problem needs to be addressed by someone, because Infiniti does not seem to be doing anything about it either.

13 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 05/17/2013

I was on the side of a mountain road when suddenly the car started shaking and I lost engine power as well as power steering. All engine lights turned on. I looked this up, and it seems like many people have had this problem so there was recall on the Infiniti G35 sedan, but interestingly not on the coupe. The recall is regarding the camshaft positioning sensor. I had my car towed afterwards to my mechanic and he verified the problem was this sensor as well. This car failure was very sudden and extremely dangerous.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 02/22/2013

I was driving on 93 south in rush hour traffic when my car completely shut down. I was stranded in the middle of the highway. I immediately threw on my flashers while other cars were whizzing by me and called the state police terrified I would be hit and unable to move. After I hung I up I put the car in park and turned the key to off. After a few more minutes unable to bear sitting there, I turned the key in the ignition and it started. I called back the state troopers and was told to just get the car to a safe spot and call a tow truck, I had aaa. I did and had it towed home. I had it brought by tow truck the next morning to my mechanic who informed me I had a faulty cam sensor. He suggested I bring it to the dealership since these were being recalled up until 2003. I did and the dealership said it was just the ecm that needed to be reprogrammed. I insisted that I was concerned I couldn't go through another incident like Friday night. They called my mechanic and called me back saying they would replace the cam sensor for $400. I think they should bear the cost of the cam sensor as this was no fault of my own and could have killed me. ## VIN failed ##.

15 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

The Infiniti G35 2004 model will completely shut off when driving the car. I found out that the cam shaft sensor was the issue and the 2003 model had a recall however the 2004 does not. This issue is very concerning since the car will shut off while one is driving. This is a danger to other individuals on the road as well as the individuals driving the car.

16 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2010

Car engine unexpectedly cut off while driving on the highway. No prior issues with car. Was able to restart car immediately and it seemed fine. Took it to get diagnosed - all fluid levels were ok but the computer diagnostic said it was the camshaft position sensor (p0340). Learned that there was a recall about this specific issue for 2003 G35s (id# 48751) but my car is a 2004 G35. Infiniti dealerships not willing to work with me about resolving the issue under warranty or recall notice, so I decided to chance it to see if it would happen again. It happened 6 days later on an exit ramp. Engine cut off and was able to pull to the side before causing any accidents. This time it was more difficult to re-start. Took several times and this time the "service engine soon" light stayed on. Took car to another Infiniti dealership and they also refused to work with me regarding the recall. The next time the engine cut off was 3 days later, also while driving. Filed a complaint with Infiniti consumer affairs and they also refuse to do anything about it.

17 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/06/2005

Driving freeway evening traffic at 35 to 50 mph. Engine just turned off at about 40 mph and lost all power assist. Engine would not restart until car came to a full stop and key was turned off first, was able to get to shoulder of road.

18 Engine And Engine Cooling problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2004

This car has a bad case of automatic acceleration. Since it has been doing this for the past 9 years, I've gotten familiar with the symptons. There are a number of ways the car will simply accelerate on its own and all of them occur when braking: 1) while sitting at a complete stop with the transmission in drive and foot on the brake, the engine will suddenly just rev up to 4 or 5 thousand rpm. 2) same as above but acceleration can be caused by pressing hard on the brake pedal. 3) exiting freeway and braking, the engine will remain at the same rpm and/or speed up. 4) (this is by far the most dangerous) when braking extra hard, the transmission will shift down and the engine goes to full throttle. This one has nearly gotten me a couple of times. The dealer has replaced the throttle, throttle body, etc. Nothing has resolved the problem. It is intermittent and incidents may be months apart. Until recently, the dealer has denied that any other owners have experienced this problem in the USA. Owners have complaining about it since 2003 on various internet sites while the manufacturer denies there is a problem and has allowed it to persist for 10 years. Only recently has the dealer admitted other problems and stated they were afraid of what happened to Toyota. Briefly looking at entries on the NHTSA site, there have been about half a dozen complaints a year. None reported a fatality but then the dead are unlikely to file a complaint. If a tenth of a percent of the owners experiencing this problem filed complaints, that would be 6,000 vehicles per year are being produced with this fatal flaw. In summary, what do you do with a potentially lethal vehicle? sell it to some unsuspecting person and endanger their life or keep it and wonder when it will kill me? if the latter happens, we'll all know why.
