Infiniti G35 owners have reported 116 problems related to brake light (under the exterior lighting category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
High mount brake light or 3rd brake light has stopped functioning due to a underrated diode on the circuit board. This creates an unsafe situation in alerting other drivers of braking/slowing and is not passable for texas state inspection.

I recently bought a 2004 infinity G35x for my daughter. It was disclosed at purchase that the 3rd brake light was out but I figured that was not a dealbreaker, I would get the light fixed easily. Well, I contacted our local infinity dealer and was quoted $480 to replace a 6 led board!! what?? after doing research online I discovered via infinity car forums (g35driver. Com, x. Infinitihelp. Com, nicoforums. Com) that this is an extremely common issue with these vehicles. The oem board is known to be a defective design. This is a federally mandated safety issue! infinity should be made to recall and repair these bad brake lights. It is the law that these lights be there and working. I sincerely hope someone at your branch will take notice of this issue and force the manufacturer to make it right.

Third brake light has failed on my 2004 Infiniti G35 sedan, non spoiler model and have not been able to figure out what is wrong. I have heard of many others complaining about this same problem on this model.
Center brake light failure.
Third brake light doesn't work. Becoming a common problem with cars within this makers community.
The third brake light has become extremely dim and an led no longer works, a problem that runs rampant throughout many G35's. It is a great safety risk, the probability for a rear end accident increased greatly thanks to the failure of the third brake light. Infiniti must fix this issue, they have been avoiding it for too long.
I noticed my 3rd brake light was no longer working. I have noticed other Infiniti G35 coupes with non- functioning 3rd brake lights. I've been told this is a common problem that I believe should be addressed by a re-call. It is an expensive part and labor charge to repair. Please induce Infiniti to replace these lights at no charge to the customer. Thank you.
The top mount rear light (3rd brake light) on my G35 only works intermittently or not all sometimes. It is a very common problem with the sedan model. Could be a potential safety issue with cars behind not realizing the G35 in front is stopping.
My sedan's third brake light works intermittently. I have tested the wiring and the light always has power, but sometimes it just doesn't light up.
Rear center brake light(led) works intermittently thereby nearly causing rear end collision. Car came inches from rear ending me. Had two warnings from local police.
Third brake light has failed and is not an cheaper one to replace. It would cost me around $500 to replace third brake light leds. It happened on my friend's car too.
The rear shelf brake light has stopped working. This is an led light that should last a quite a bit longer if not lifetime. Obviously, the car was designed so this part does not have to be replaced. To replace this light, the entire back seat and rear shelf trim and back side trim must be removed. The light itself costs $150. 00 and the dealer charges $500. 00 to replace it. I have seen numerous 2003 G35s with the non functioning brake light, most likely due to the expensive repair. This is a safety issue and clearly a product defect.
Third brake light has been out for at least a year.
The third led brake light is not working properly. Got pulled over on August 28th because the officer said my third brake light wasn't working. I got the light tested and the car shop said they would test the light to see if it was the light itself or there is a short due to wiring. The car shop said the light worked so there must be a wiring malfunction some where in the car that makes the light work properly.
The rear third brake light on my 2006 G35 coupe (no-spoiler) began working intermittently after only 4-5 years in service. About 2 years ago it went out completely.
The third brake light in spoiler-less G35 sedans is a well known issue to fault after just a few years. Over 50 owners of the vehicle have reported the same problem. It will either stop working entirely or only work at times with no known cause.
Just brought vehicle into dealer and was informed I need third brake light. Cost of replacement was over $500 which included parts and labor. After further research I found that this is a common issue with these vehicles and Infiniti will do nothing about it. I could understand if this were just an issue of a bulb burning out and a $10 replacement part, but this unit is basically installed as a permanent led component without the thought of easy replacement. For such a simple safety item I feel that the price and labor is extreme and there is obviously a manufacturing defect.
There is a common failing issue with the 3rd brake lights of Infiniti G35 sedans that was manufactured in between 2003-2006. Infiniti/Nissan fixed the problem with the new generation (starting 2006) however they do not seem to response well to customer complaints for our vehicles. This causes potential threat to highway security. Please make Infiniti recall these vehicles and fix the issue. I have replaced the light once but it keeps failing because the issue is the board, not the led lights. Thank you.
Car third brake light fails to operate.
My third brake light went out so I went to the dealer to purchase a replacement led lamp. The price of the lamp was $185. 00! the parts department said they are very difficult to replace as you have to remove both the trunk lining and rear seat to replace the led lamp. The labor to replace the lamp is $200. 00! I have since noticed that about one half of the Infiniti G35 and g37 models I see on the road have their high mount third brake light inoperative. This is with out a doubt due to the extremely high cost and difficulty to replace what should be a simple replacement lamp.
Third brake light works only intermittently. No rhyme or reason why it's not working all the time as when it does work, all the lights shine at full brightness. No accidents, no electrical faults, it just randomly stopped working 100% of the time.
Third brake light does not work. This seems to be a common problem in this model. Very dangerous to drive at night. The car behind you can't see you when you brake and can rear end you.
The 3rd location brake light in the rear deck area quit working, and there is no easy way to get to it and repair it. It is a led unit, and it appears that it was designed and installed to never fail, because it is very difficult to get to.
Inoperative/defective third brake light. Noted multiple others complaints on G35 forums with same problem.
Thrid brake light is out.
The third brake light on my Infiniti G35 has failed. The dealership wants to charge $316 for the part and $120 for the part. This is a safety feature on the car and I fear getting rear ended as cars and truck behind me have had to brake hard at times. Please require Infiniti to recall this and repair these for free.
Center brake light stopped working. Impossible to replace. ## VIN passed ## infinity G35 2003 ##.
I too have had my center brake light to out intermittently in the past few months. I have not yet taken it in to be checked, but plan to do so in the next week.
Hmsl (third brake light) is completely inoperative. One led had been out for two years, then the entire unit failed. Infiniti dealers sell the replacement unit for over $200, plus that sum in labor for the dealer. This is a common unit failure in the G35 models, according to internet searches and observation of numerous vehicles on the road. It is a safety issue that has remained unaddressed for years.
Third-brake light intermittently works and goes out. Does not work 80% of the time.
Center brake light in the rear window fails to work at different times since 2009. This light is very expensive to replace/repair and is a very common problem on the 2003-2006 Infiniti G35 sedan, I have replaced it two times in my 4 years of ownership! I have almost been rear ended on numerous occasions that I cannot seem to count on 2 hands. This part is a safety risk as it is out a majority of the time! I replace it once due to failure of passing a massachusetts inspection sticker test, and yet again it is out/working intermittently.

The third brake light on many G35 vehicles from 2003 - 2007 does not work - there is an issue with the circuitry on the third brake light that sits behind the window, up above the trunk. This is a clear safety issue and should be addressed by the manufacturer.
