Air Bag Problems of Infiniti I30

The ‘air bag’ light stays on at all times. Its been like this for over 10 years. I’ve called my local Infiniti dealer, they said they cannot replace the takata airbag until NHTSA identifies this model in a national recall. I’m afraid the airbag may not properly deploy or deploy inadvertently, and cause serious injury or death of driver or occupants. Please do the right thing and add the 1999 Infiniti I-30 to recall list. Thanks ????.

I recently took my car in for a regular smog check, and the technician reported that there is 1 open recall for my vehicle. I called and made an appointment with Infiniti of roseville. Brought my vehicle in and the tech told me theres no need to replace the affected parts being as the car has 202k miles.

Tl takata air bag recall. The contact's husband owned a 2001 Infiniti I30. The contact stated that while her daughter was in line at a drive thru, a smell emitted throughout the vehicle without warning. As the burning smell progressed, she also saw white smoke coming from the rear end of the vehicle. The driver got out of the line and checked the hood of the vehicle where she saw flames coming the engine. Authorities were called to the scene of the fire; however, before they arrived, the vehicle had exploded. The air bags deployed upon explosion. No injuries were reported at the scene and a police report and fire report were filed. The vehicle was destroyed due to the explosion and was towed to an unknown location. Upon investigation, the contact discovered that there was a takata recall on the vehicle under NHTSA campaign number: 20v008000 (air bags) the manufacturer nor the dealer had been notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

While driving home could hear a clicking noise in the wiring car started to lose power and eventually died in the road, jump started it to get to a shop was told it was the alternator, bought new alternator and battery after driving for a while car shorted out again lost power and once again died on the road, jump started car to get home. Car will not hold power keeps shorting out in the wires, alternator is still good as well as battery. You can hear the wiring when it shorts out as it clicks. When I jump start the car it will only stay charged for a few minutes before dying out again. I am not able to drive the car now as it will not stay charged, something electrical is draining the battery. When the wiring starts to click radio goes off and clock dims before shutting off as well.

The contact owns a 2004 infinti I30. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 16v349000 (air bags); however, the parts to do the repair were unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact called a local dealer (harte Infiniti located at 150 weston st hartford, CT 06120 860-524-1993) who stated that the recall remedy parts were on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue and was not able to confirm when the parts would be available. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.

Takata recall.

The lite for the airbag stays on;also the main computer for the car failed and had to be replaced as the car would not start.

Infiniti I30 air bag red light on dash blinking indicating faulty air bags. This is a dangerous situation because you don't know if the air bags are functional or if it is just the light. Infiniti wants > $600 to replace the airbag which only seems to last a short period of time. . Read more...

While driving on a clear day, no wet road, etc. , on Saturday September 4, 2004, my 1996 Infiniti I30 mysteriously went out of control, went into a slide, crossed a two lane highway, went down an enbankment, flipped over, and crashed top-first into a tree; driving the roof into the driver's seat. The airbags never did empoly. The investigating officer did not issue a citation since he could not determine the cause for the car going out of control. I was checked for sobriety, etc. And it was determined that I was not impaired. All tires were in excellent condition, there was not a tire blowout. The front was aligned about 6 months ago. The tires were recently rotated and balanced. The right front tire was replaced at that time because the tire had a slight indentation due to possibly hitting a side walk curve.

Two air bag mechanisms failed and were replaced. The consumer is asking for refund of the repair cost from the dealer.
