The contact owns a 2000 Infiniti Qx4. The contact stated that while driving approximately 40 mph, all steering control was lost. The contact was able to maneuver the vehicle to the shoulder of the road where it was stopped. The vehicle was then towed home and inspected by an independent mechanic, who stated that there was corrosion on the front drivers side frame, which detached and fractured the steering shaft. The steering shaft was replaced and the front drivers side frame was repaired. The driver and passenger side running boards were also repaired due to corrosion. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact also stated that while driving at various speeds, the accelerator pedal would intermittently become stuck in a partially depressed position. In order to release the pedal, the contact would apply excessive pressure to the accelerator pedal as well as the brake pedal. The vehicle had not been inspected for the accelerator pedal failure. The approximate failure mileage was 198,000.
