I was traveling at 75mpg north from atlanta entering knoxville tennesse at 23:00 when I turned on the cruise control. The engine instantly shut down without warning. Luckily traffic was light at that time of the evening and I was able to coast with the gear in neutral to the nearest exit ramp. I removed the key from the ignition and restarted the car easily. I was able to complete my trip back to cleveland, ohio without the use of the cruise control. It;s been over a year since the incident and the car runs fine. Since the incident, I have never nor will I ever use the cruise control again.

I was ready to park, I hadn't even had a chance to take off seat belt or turn off ignition when there was a sudden acceleration. Car took off like a bat out of hell. Stepped on brake, car would not stop. Finally it stopped at embankment with the help of a chamisa tree. Car was taken to only Jaguar repair in new mexico, that being melloy Jaguar in albuquerque. It was taken there twice, the assessment no problem with car; no codes could relate to sudden acceleration, blame was on me, with melloy stating it could have been me stepping on gas and brake at same time. Lame excuse, I should have had the code machine on me; I have driven for over thirty eight years and have never had a problem with sudden acceleration. My mother was with me when this happened. It was a miracle that we were not hurt. This car was purchased in November of 2006, it was a used car. Car had approximately 25,500 miles. From the time we purchased vehicle, we had put approximately 11,000 miles in a year when car started acting up. This summer, car, when stopped, started to take off on it's own. Car in front of me stopped it. Daughter was with me. Husband also had an incident. After everything I've read with NHTSA, I am of the belief that this will not be solved, but rather blamed on human error. Eventhough, I believe that this will be the conclusion, I believe, with clear conscience that I tried to save lives. On one last note, I have learned that when you think that there is a problem, try to bring a solution. I think the main problem is with the cruise control which is also linked to the throttle position sensor. I think the problem is with the computer telling vehicle to open at full throttle when the vehicle is at full stop. This can just happen randomly.

- the contact owns a 2006 Jaguar X-type purchased on November 10, 2006 with 15 miles. The contact explained that early in December 2006 while driving the vehicle between 40 to 45 mph and before coming to a stop sign the vehicle failed to respond when the brakes were applied. The vehicle continued at the same speed. This caused the contact to move on to the emergency lane to avoid hitting another vehicle. The contact continued to apply the brake pedal while on the emergency lane until the vehicle stopped. The contact explained that mid December 2006, while driving at 30 mph on a country road, the brakes did not respond when applied. Even after the brake was applied the vehicle went at the same speed and the cruise control stayed on. After pressing the brake pedal a few times the vehicle was able to stop. At no time was the cruise control ever activated. The third time a similar problem occurred was on 1/20/07. The contact took the vehicle to thomas Cadillac and Jaguar of hardford on 1/24/07,where an ids was installed, and the pedal switch was adjusted and checked. The contact stated that the cruise control became active on all three occasions and pumping the brake pedal did not disengage the cruise control to allow the vehicle to slow down or properly stop. The failure mileage was 1743 and the current mileage was 2100. On February 16,2007 the contact's vehicle was involved in a crash. The driver was not able to stop while driving at 30 mph and making a right turn, under sunny and dry driving conditions. Update 4/9.

The contact owns a 2007 Jaguar X-type. The cruise control automatically goes beyond the normal operating procedures as stated in the owner's manual. The contact attempted to adjust the control and it continued to malfunction. While driving 50 mph near another vehicle the cruise control speed decreased, including when changing lanes and without warning, it increased. Jaguar stated that this was an option for the vehicle, and they were unable to assist him with this concern. The manufacturer stated that he could have that option removed. The dealer advised the contact to file a complaint. The current and failure mileage were 5,040.

2002 Jaguar x type was involved in a roll over and none of the air bags deployed. Cruise control and brake equipment are posing a problem as well. The driver and passenger sustained severe injuries.
On four separate occasions in the last five months, the car lost power and the "power train" warning light on the dash display came on. It appears to be related to the cruise control, since the failures occurred when engaging or re-engaging (after applying the brake or pressing on the accelerator) the cruise control. The failures seem to occur randomly and not every time the cruise control is used. The dealer has been unable to replicate the problem, but they have replaced the control computer and re-done a number of wiring harnesses. Even though the problem has not been replicated, the failure history is captured in the car's on-board computer.
