In the just over 3 years that I have owned this car I have had 2 incidents where the car accelerates and engine races when braking at a low speed making a turn on a side street. I try to bring the to a stop but it is very difficult to do as the brakes are not fully stopping the car and both times I had to put the car in park quickly in other to completely stop it which brought it to a jerking halt. There is some defect in this model as I have seen numerous similar stories on a Jaguar problems website. This is a very serious problem and I was lucky both times to be on side streets as a serious accident was avoided as I it took me a few seconds to bring the car to a stop as I did not have full control of car. I took the car to my local Jaguar in glen cove NY in July and they could not replicate the incident and had no idea what the problem was. Like I said at the beginning this only happened twice in 3 years but I only drive 1000 to 2000 miles a year and to tell you the truth I am afraid to drive the car too much as I might hit another car or a person if it happens again. The 2004 Jaguar x types should be recalled as others have had this same problem with no solutions.

This is not the first time that it happened. It happened once before, but I don't know what the date was or the mileage. However, I do remember that it happened in November, 2013. On April 21, 2015, I was leaving a store. As I pulled out of the parking lot, I had to stop to make sure there was not any traffic in the highway before leaving, but there was a truck approaching. I tapped the brakes and the car took off in the highway right in front of the truck. Luckily the driver of the truck saw me and applied his brakes. This could have been a tragedy. Now for the first occasion, I was in the inside lane of a major highway and was trying to stop for a red light. I started to brake and the car took off. I had to switch over in the outside lane so that I wouldn't rear end the car in front of me. I was lucky this time because there wasn't any traffic in the outside lane. Now I am afraid to drive the car because I know it is a death trap. I do not want to hurt myself or anyone else on the highway. I need some help now! I don't know what to do! I just purchased the car in April, 2013. There needs to be a recall before someone gets hurt or killed. It is a beautiful car, but as I said before, "it is a death trap"!.

My Jaguar X-type 2004 car when traveling at about 25-30 mph alternately gets sluggish and slows or revs up, causing me to apply brakes hard to prevent collisions. I have to allow enormous space between me and the vehicle ahead because I am afraid of colliding with vehicles in front. Also have to brake hard to to overcome the surging forth of the engine. The car will also rev up when I am parking it. These are such common occurrences, and it seems to be a manufacturing malfunction. Jaguar should recall all 2004 X-types to fix these dangerous and potentially life threatening machines. I request that the NHTSA immediately follow up and require recall of these road hazards. Thank you.
Tl-the contact owns a 2003 Jaguar x type. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 65 mph, the engine started to buck and slow down, the temperature gage was up to high and went cold, there was no fluids in the vehicle and the radiator hose had steam coming from the hose. The failure recurred on multiple occasions. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic and was diagnosed that the water pump fractured and the vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified and the approximate failure mileage was 169,000. The VIN number was not available. Rw close window.

The contact owned a 2006 Jaguar X-type. While driving approximately 55 mph, the vehicle accelerated when the brake pedal was applied. As a result, the contact crashed the vehicle into a wall. The passenger side dashboard air bag was the only air bag that deployed. A police report was filed. The contact sustained two broken ribs, lacerations that required stitches, and bruises to the eye and body that required medical attention. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 68,000.
I was travelling on the freeway at 55 mph, as I exited and touched the brakes the car would not slow down, the car gained speed, I pumped the brakes and the car continued to go faster, the car was out of control and crashed into a wall. I was seriously injured and fortunately no one else or other vehicle was involved. I am lucky to be alive. Just prior to impact I turned the wheel to the left causing the car to hit the right front first then the car flipped over. Only the passenger side air bag deployed. The brakes were fairly new with 70% brake lining remaining and the brakes had been inspected one week prior to the accident. It appears to be a combination speed acceleration and brake failure.
Car was driving on highway then went into limp mode and started slowing down dangerously with cars behind me blowing horns and going round.
The contact owns a 2003 Jaguar X-type. The contact was sitting at a stop light when the vehicle accelerated abnormally. The contact stated that while his foot was on the brakes, the vehicle would not slow down. The contact had to avoid crashing into another vehicle and as he swerved, he ended up crashing into a tree, causing the tire to bust. The contact sustained minor injuries. The vehicle was towed to the dealer to have the tire repaired and for inspection. The cause of the failure was unknown. The manufacturer was not notified. The failure mileage was 8,000. The contact owns a 2003 Jaguar X-type. The contact stated that the vehicle would accelerate abnormally even with the brakes engaged. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that they could not duplicate the failure after inspecting the brakes and scanning the entire vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times but they could not duplicate the failure. The contact stated that he tried to contact the manufacturer for days but could not speak with anyone. The failure mileage was 7,000 and the current mileage was 8,072.

I was pulling into a parking space in front of a drug store. While maneuvering the car between the lines, my foot was already partially on the brake. Then the car accelerated more and the brakes went to the floor. Thus the car surged over the curb and into the wall. There was no control to this car at all. Estimated damage to the car is $6800. 00 an insurance claims person will be checking out the brakes and also reason for car acceleration. Car may have to be towed to the dealer for further investigation once the body repairs are made.
When I press on the brake to stop, the car accelerates. The harder I press on the brake the more the car wants to accelerate. I have had at least six incidences of this situation in the course of approximations four months. When I brought the car into Jaguar service the first time they returned the car to me saying that "there is nothing wrong with the car". When I brought the car to them the second time, I was very specific about how the problem developed. After four days in the shop they were able to determine that the accelerator bracket extends beyond the area of the accelerator to the left and therefore can at times interfere with the brake pedal. Jaguar claims that they have never heard of this problem before, although I was able to find at least one other person, on an internet website, "mycarstats. Com", who is experiencing the same problem. I informed Jaguar that I am holding them responsible for any damages caused by this defect. They have now know about the cause of the problem since at least since February 22, 2006. The head lights were aimed too high. Updated 03/22/06.
2 separate incidents (9 mos. Apart), when applying brakes to stop for traffic light, car would not stop - engine revved very high, put gear shift in neutral, engine revving out of control - had to turn ignition off to stop car. The first time this occurred, I very narrowly avoided rear-ending car in front of me - took evasive action by moving into turning lane.
The contact owns a 2002 Jaguar X-type. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle accelerated without pressure being applied to the accelerator pedal. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal, but the vehicle would not slow down. She swayed across the road and crashed into the curb to stop the vehicle. The vehicle was damaged and taken to an authorized dealer for repairs. There were no warning indicators prior to this failure. The insurance company was notified of this incident. Recently, the transmission failed at low mileage and has not yet been replaced. The VIN was verified, but appears to be invalid. The failure mileage was 5,000 and current mileage was 31,000.
Consumer states while pulling into a parking space and without any indication vehicle idling high. Also, while foot was depressing the brake pedal vehicle surged forward, hitting a tree.
