On two separate occasions in 2006 and 2007, oem continental touring tires 225/45r17 on my 2006 Jaguar X-type sport sedan suffered spontaneous, catastrophic blow out failure under what should have been nominal operating conditions. {I-95, I-495, clear dry pavement, speed below 80 mph]. Since those events, remaining tires have exhibited sidewall bulging and other evidence of cord separation. Today (12/26/2008) while visiting safety website, learned of at least 50 similar spontaneous failures of same product, which is also oe tire on mercedes c300 and BMW 3 series sedans. This seems to be more than coincidence.

Problems with tire equipment on 2003 Jaguar x. When driving twenty miles per hour , the vehicle hit a pothole and the front tire went flat. The tire had a slit on the outside slightly above the treads. During inspection, it turned out that a different tire had a bulge and that also had to be replaced. One of the replacement tires started to lose air. It was discovered that the brand new tire also had a slit in the same place as the first two tires. The vehicle was driven over a pothole again and the next morning the consumer noticed that the tire had a slit in the same place as the others.
