Brake Disc Rotor problems of the 1998 Jeep Cherokee - part 1

Consumer was driving on two lane road at about 20 mph. Vehicle in front of consumer stopped, when consumer attempted to stop vehicle brakes did not respond, consumer 's vehicle hit other vehicle in the rear. After accident consumer drove home but still had no brakes, had to use emergency brake to stop. Consumer had mechanic come to her house to examine vehicle. Mechanic found that brake rotors where separated. Consumer done research on internet to find that there was recall 00v136000 on make/ model and year, but manufacture told consumer this vehicle was not included in recall . . Consumer was having problem fixed by replacing rotors. Vehicle was serviced regularly. Consumer believed rotors were original equipment.

All four brake rotors wore out. Dealerships replaced the rotors twice, but problem recurred. Also, vehicle experienced extended stopping distance.

Front brake rotors.

Numerous problems with 1998 Jeep Cherokee sport. During the first year of owning the vehicle the vehicle was at the dealer 12 times for rust marks on the vehicle which the dealer described as fall out and they insisted it was something the consumer had done to cause it to happen so soon, the electrical system failed, as the consumer was driving all the gauges went out and the vehicle just stopped, the air condition and radio were inoperative and still is, there was a thumping noise which was attributed to the rotors which was supposedly fixed. The most recent problem was with the power windows.

Brake rotor separated from hub during braking. Contacted dealer, was told that my Jeep was not part of the recall.

Recall 00v136000 repairs have not corrected the recall problem. Rotors have been replaced 3 times since first taken into dealer for recall. Battery failed and was replaced. Dash gauges malfunctioned due to cluster harness failure. The air bag light stays on. Fog lamp switch failed. The front pinion seal was leaking. The buckle for rear middle seat belt broke.

Rotors were recalled [NHTSA recall no. 00v136/Chrysler recall no. 879] and replaced at 20,400 miles. At 32,000, additional noise problems. Replacement rotors are bad with only 16,000 miles on them! dealer says damage to rotors caused by heat from pads, but top of line ceramic pads were used (low-heat). Mechanic says rotors are defective, rotors don't just melt. Replaced rotors at own cost. Took bad rotors back to dealer. They blamed pads, but seemed surprised at the extent of damage to the rotors. According to the complaints filed on this site, I'm not the only one having problems with the replacement rotors used in the recall.

When applying brakes vehicle would vibrate. Vehicle taken to a repair shop and had both front rotors turned. Feel free to provide any further information.

Rotors have been replaced twice and turned once. All has happend in last . The most the front rotors have lasted is 14,ooo miles.

Consumer took car into dealer for brake problem. Mechanic told consumer that all 4 rotors needed to be replaced. Consumer felt all 4 rotors should not have gone at same time. Called dealer, and they said there was a recall on front rotors, but not rear.

Consumer received recall notice for brake rotors. Dealership repaired vehicle in accordance with notice. However, new rotors that replaced defective rotors needed to be replaced. Please provide any additional nformation/attachments.

Consumer had taken vehicle to dealer for recall repairs on air bag control module ,and for brake rotors. Dealer said they had replaced parts stated on recalls, but consumer did not believe that recall repairs were taken care.

Brake rotors failed several times prior to recall notification, consumer took vehicle in for rotor recall repair, the dealership did not repair vehicle properly.

Consumer is being denied reimbursement for recall repair (00v-136), which failed prior to recall notification and required replacement.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component (00v-136) prior to recall notification and is requesting reimbursement, after first replacement the brakes continued to make noise, owner is currently waiting for parts to complete recall repair properly.

As I have reported, I have had numerous serious issues with this vehicle and I do not feel it is a safe car. This vehicle has also been recalled twice, for front brake rotors and defective air bag module, (replaced and moved from under the passanger seat front to under the console). I have contacted Chrysler corp. With this same information and my feelings that this vehicle is not safe and am awaiting a reply. I do not expect any monetary or new vehicle etc. , I'm just reporting the safety problems I have had with this vehicle to any and all agencies to have something on record. I wish to state also that the dealership I bought this vehicle from have been very accomodating and there has never been a problem with them at any time.

Vehicle experienced failure of the recall component (00v-136) prior to recall notification which resulted in vehicle accident due to loss of control, the brake rotors were replaced the day before the accident, however failed.

Consumer experienced failure of the recall component (00v-136) prior to recall notification, consumer was denied reimbursement.

Brakes failed at 20 mph. Rear-ended Volvo station wagon. Was told by mechanic that I needed brakes and rotors replaced. Cherokee had less than 14,000 miles on it. Five months later Jeep recalled rotors. Because I did not have original oem parts (ie. Rotors) they would not assist me in disputing insurance rate increase or cost of rotor/brake replacements. ***note*** Jeep is on third set of rotors and is in need of yet another as these are warped. And Jeep is not at the 100,000 mile mark yet!.

Warped rotor caused pulsation when the brakes were applied, the dealer has replaced and rotated but the pulsation returns, the consumer request reimbursement for faulty rotors. Nlm.

Rotors warped in less than 10000 miles causing severe vibration in front end of vehicle when braking, especially at speeds in excess of 40 mph. Maintaining control of vehicle is questionable particularly on wet surfaces. Dealer has replaced rotors four times but refused the fifth time. They claim there is no malfunction in brake system which would cause the warping.

Brakes rotors and drums worn out. Yh.

Took vehicle to dealer to replace rotors due to excessive rubbing and noises. The second set of rotors were also rubbing & mechanic refused to replace them. Consumer went through arbitration . Currently, dealership replaced rear rotors, but not left front rotors. Problem still exists.

Consumer replaced recall (00v-136) component and had service on the vehicle on several occasions prior to recall notification, consumer is requesting reimbursement.

Vehicle has had an on going problem since the 4th day after I bought it, it has a vibration at 55-65 mph. The tires have been balanced countless times, the drive shaft has been replaced the transfercase has been lowered, the wheels have been replaced, the tires were replaced, the transfer case has been overhauled countless times in at dealer to repair and still has not been corrected. Additionally brakes pads and rotors were replaced for a pulsation, transfer case output seal was replaced for a leak, and little odds and ends. ( dot number: tire size: p225/75/15 ).

Rotors warped causing noise.

Recall # 00v136000 daimlerchrysler/front brake rotors. After arriving for schedule appointment, waiting for two hours, owner was told that no parts were available to correct campaign. Appointment made one month ago. Please provide any further information.

Front brake rotors have failed due to corrosion. Recall 00v136000 does not included utah state . Consumer state that utah uses high amount of salt on roads due to approx 8 months of winter . Please provide further information.
