Brake Electric Antilock problems of the 1998 Jeep Cherokee

Nine problems related to brake electric antilock have been reported for the 1998 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.

1 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 10/05/2004

While driving consumer applied the brakes and pedal went to the floor. Consumer swirled in order to avoid a pedestrian and animal. Consumer was unable to maintain control of the vehicle and hit a ditch. Upon impact, both frontal air bags did not deploy. A medical technician was on duty from the ambulance, and examined the driver, who was okay. The vehicle was towed, and totaled by the insurance company.

2 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2001

When it rains brakes become defective and itharder to slow down, causing extended stopping distance. Consumer has had a car crash due to faulty brakes. Contacted dealer, and dealer was not willing to do anything.

3 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 03/20/1998

Braking system malfunctioned, causing extended stopping distance which may result in a crash. Please provide further information.

4 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Failure Date: 01/01/1997

When driving at any speed and applyingthe brakes, there is vibration coming out of vehicle.

5 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Vehicle pulls to the right during normal operation and during braking. The dealer has tried to correct the problem.

6 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Extremely long stopping distances and extremely high pedal effort, added some rebuilt parts.

7 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Rear brakes lock-up when wet or cold out. Vehicle returned to dealership total of 5 times for repair. Manufacturer contacted, and a case number issued. Returned vehicle to dealership again. Could not duplicate problem, and dealership would not install any replacement parts under warranty. Condition still exists. Unable to receive satisfaction from dealership and/or manufacturer.

8 Brake Electric Antilock problem

Brakes have made a squealing noise every since the Jeep was purchased. The dealership said it was dust on the brakes, so they cleaned them. This has not corrected the problem. It has been reported to the dealership severl times. We recently had to have our tires replaced due to a "blowout" the tire dealer stated the brakes were in bad shape and needed to be replaced.

9 Brake Electric Antilock problem

When applying brakes front wheels lock up, and the rear wheels keep spinning at the speed that vehicle is proceeding. Dealer says it's normal.
