Two problems related to automatic transmission gear indicator have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
While driving vehicle would not change gears. Towed vehicle to mechanic . Metal pin broke that caused vehicle to stop shifting.
Consumer was traveling about 40mph on highway while entering a ramp there was a loud grinding/loud noise. This was caused by gears coming apart. Dealership was aware of problem, and consumer had transmission replaced.
