Two problems related to axle assembly have been reported for the 1999 Jeep Cherokee. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Fog light shortage from the interior switch, rear left shock squeaks non stop at low speeds, loss of electrical power when a/c is on (hot or cold), grinding noise coming from rear axle when coming out of first gear, noisy dashboard when road is bumpy, small signs of rust starting to appear on exterior, font passenger window does not go up if put down by passenger, driver side window making noise.
The rear axle has a egineering defect, admitted by Chrysler, that cause the transmission to slip at start and stop. They have said some cars have it and some don't. Mine does. The rental they gave me which was identical didn't have the problem. I have had it in 4 times in 6 months and they have finally told me they consider it "within limits" even though some of the same vehcile don't have the problem an others are really bad. I can't even resell the vehicle due to the problem. They "altered" my transmission where it attaches to the axle to "assist" the problem. They also "altered" the springs. I'm concerned what they actually did to my care and it's safety at this point.
