In early 2022 the vehicle just shutoff while I was actively driving. I couldnt get the car to neutral once it shut off and had to be towed. Boosting did not immediately resolve the issue. But a day later the car would start and then drive for a while and just randomly shutoff. I had battery changed, incident occured again and I had to be towed a couple of the times and just decided to read up on line if anyone was having similar issues and I came accross this article but when I entered my VIN number it was not included in the recall even though the issue I am having is similar.
Car shut off without any warning while pulling into parking lot and making right turn.
Car shuts off mid-drive / mid-turn while in motion without warning. No lights are illuminated in the dash cluster after or during. No explanation why.
Vehicle was in motion at about 25-30 mph when the vehicle shut off completely, engine was not going and power steering, brakes, and all electronics would not work until the car coasted into a parking lot. The car was put in park and then turned back on as normal. Incident has happened four times now at speeds of 45mph , 20mph, 25mph, and 10mph.
Gear shift error lights! while driving all the service shifter lights came on. Pulled over to shut off the car and the lights went off. When I picked up to speed the lights came back. The car shuts off when turning and started jerking with take off. Once the power shuts off the car didn't want to start and turned over until it caught on. I drive around a large city with lots of highways for a living and I am afraid the car may loss power in traffic! this issue has been happening since summer 2020.
On numerous occasions, my 2016 Jeep Cherokee shut down mid turn or while driving. On many turns, it dies as I complete the turn. I am writing this complaint because on my way to work, my Jeep's engine shut off in the middle of the turn on a city street in morning traffic. This has happened before. My Jeep dealer said he has seen this happen to "10-11 Chrysler/Jeep/Dodge/ram vehicles". His suggestions was "to get an oil change" and it will fix it. I went to get an oil change my car engine shut off in the middle of the busiest street in the city during lunch traffic. This has happened 5-7 times this year. I cannot believe this has not been addressed. This is life threatening. I imagine this is happening on the highway and free way with other customers. Cars were swerving to avoid a collision with my car. If you were to research this issue on google, it's the first result. The engine literally stops in the middle of operation. How else does this need to be phrased to get Jeep's attention?.
Car shut down in middle of road, happened few more times, car is consuming gas in less then 700 miles, mech says its a engine issue, I have to refile every few days, car is struggling to move, I fear shut down again if I do not fill in a dangerous location.
Was turning left and vehicle shut off midturn was nearly rear ended took Jeep in shop didn't fix was still under warranty also was driving when all Jeep instrument warning lights came on and lost all power coasted to a stop restarted, shifting became sluggish motor started knocking took to shop to get fix spend over 2000 bucks to get fix now they want 7000 bucks for engine.
Car shut off in the middle of the highway, couldn't do anything, not even put it into park. Was going 70mph.
The service shifter light keeps coming on. With that. . The lights next to the park, drive, neutral and drive letters all turn red. I'm taking it to a dealership this Saturday and I know that it will cost me. I had my two kids in the car 1 and 3 years old when it happened. My car was parked overnight in my garage because it's been raining all week and I didn't want to get out into the rain to let my two kids inside. I drove it about a mile down the road when this problem started. I read that this is a reoccurring problem with this vehicle that a lot of people are having. Some say the problem gets worse like the vehicle shuts down while driving and others say they have to keep paying to have it fixed but the problem with keep happening. Also my vehicle had a misfire on the 2nd cylinder and my vehicle kept jerking two weeks prior to this incident but we also paid to get that fixed. I got this vehicle because I needed something reliable to drive my family around in and it's causing me more headache and now I have to worry if my kids are safe to ride with me in it.
Vehicle shuts off while driving. Happens mostly in the morning and after making a turn. The vehicle has shut off at random times throughout the day and evening. Could be a cranking issue as it happens mostly within a half hour of starting. Every incident where the vehicle has shut off while driving has been on a street and while accelerating in motion. Before shutting off, the engine light will come on and immediately after, will shut off.
Engine shut off while vehicle in motion with foot on accelerator (traveling ~10mph). . Lost power steering and brakes. Notice appeared on dashboard about shifter. Tried to power engine back on to no avail. Waited a couple of minutes and vehicle was able to start again.
Around 76k on 2016 Jeep Cherokee sport engine that messed up going down the interstate, I quickly exited then it shut off and did not want to stay running. Now dealership says they don't understand why zero compression in cylinders. I kept oil changed every 3k due to daily miles. It is terrible that the manufacture cannot be held accountable with all of these complaints.
While driving home on a city street at approx. 35mph, my 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude lost power and shut off, stating "shift to p and then desired gear" and the battery light illuminated. There were no warnings before this occurred. The vehicle lost power steering and brakes, and was then hesitant to restart. After starting, the vehicle jumped forward a bit but would not properly drive, and was towed home and then ultimately to a dealer. The vehicle has been having transmissions issue and was also found to have a defective battery 3 weeks ago, so the safety concerns of this vehicle continue to grow. After researching, I learned this is an extremely common issue, often caused by low oil, or no cause found. There are high risks to life and property for a vehicle that will just shut down at will without any warning.
Bought a 2016 Jeep Cherokee with 60miles on it within 3 weeks car shut off 3 time while driving with signal shift gear comes on. Have to put car in park and turn off car and turn on a few times and it will be fine two months later it happens again this time happening a few time in the same day a few minutes apart. This dangerous because it happens while your driving on the road with no warning.
Vehicle loses power while driving, engine shuts down, steering locks and the dash lights up with a message that says put vehicle and "park" and then select desired gear. I have two small special needs children. This has happened 3 times in the last two months. I keep my vehicle up to date on maintenance/service. I read over 100 people's exact same complaints on line. It doesn't make sense that I am paying a car payment, have less than 45,000 miles on a less than 3 year old vehicle, and having these kind of safety concerns. We have one vehicle, limited means, and tons of therapy appointments. Today, my car died with no warning on a busy road, gives me approximately 10 seconds to pull to safety before there is no speed/ability to manuever the vehicle. It is ridiculous that the risk is so high, and the number of complaints listed on line show a serious issue with this among hundreds of vehicles by Jeep and nothing. The dealerships/service continue to make comments like "we were unable to replicate the issue". To be specific: driving at about 25 miles per hour, straight following a right turn. . . . Lost power. Lights went on the dash, message above appeared. It took two tries to restart to get me out of the middle of the road.
This issues has happened twice once I was at an intersection and the second time I was on the freeway. I am driving with no issues and then all of a sudden the car loses speed. I will go from 70-0mph with in seconds, all the lights will come on on my dash board and I am unable to speed up or even steer out of the way. The second time this happened to me I was in the fast lane on the freeway with my daughter,no cars behind me because I would have been hit with out a question. It sounded as if the car shut down with out actually turning off. I had the car towed to the dealer where they had no explanation for me both times this happened. As soon as they would connect it to diagnose they said the codes would clear and the car was working. Both times this has happened and now I am scared every time I drive. Now the stereo will not turn on. The screen is on but will not move from the Jeep sigh it will flicker on and off but not ever move from there.
Vehicle shut off completely while driving on the interstate. No warning lights or any other indication of issues. Was able to restart after several minutes and no indication lights on again but driving fine. Checked oil level this morning and it is at 83% after only 1375 miles. Extremely unsafe!!! conditions were dark/nighttime and all electrical shut off as well leaving us to be unseen and almost hit by 18 wheeler. This is the 3rd major issue with this vehicle in less than one year. It has needed new starter coil, new thermostat and now this.
My car will sputter and shut down while driving in my neighborhood. When I tried to start it the car would sputter as if it was stuck in the starter, then just shut down. I attempted again and still nothing. I've called the dealership and they blow me off. I don't know what to do and with an engine acting like this is going to cause an accident. Something needs to be done please!!!.
Car shut off while driving.
Several times in the past 3 months (6-8 times), without warning, the car shuts off. The engine completely stops regardless of in motion or accelerating from a stop. It has happened each way. It shuts off, and the vehicle computer provides a message that you must be in park to start the vehicle. I shift to park and it starts up again. When it shuts off the power steering goes and you cannot control the direction of the vehicle. There are no symptoms and no warning but I see enough of the same complaint that I am reporting it. It has not happened at highway speed yet, and I am afraid it might based on the other Jeep owners comments.
I have a 2016 Jeep Cherokee latitude with 33,000 miles on it. The vehicle stalled while driving about 20 mph on a city street. The engine shut off without any warning, causing me to become stuck in the middle of a busy road, nearly causing a collision. The dashboard made a dinging noise, and stated the message "please return to park, then choose desired gear". After putting the vehicle in park, I was able to restart the engine. After researching this problem, it is clear that this is a common issue related to oil levels in the Jeep Cherokee. The NHTSA should launch an investigation into this dangerous engine issue that affects the safety of the vehicle.
I brought the Jeep new in 2016 and now it has shut off on me while driving in traffic with no power. This is scary. While driving, I get warning tones emitted from the vehicle with no message displayed. This has happened to me 3 times so far and I'm afraid to drive the vehicle now always thinking it will shut off without warning. I contacted Jeep today (6/3/18) and they said they haven't heard of the issue. I searched online and found numerous complaints about the same issue. I need this situation to be documented in the event something catastrophic happens to me while driving the vehicle. I feel a lot of anxiety always feeling the car will shut off in traffic and get rear ended. Please feel free to contact me regarding this situation.
I was driving down a city street on my way home from work and my car just shut off! it had 14500 miles on it when this happened. The system had just started telling me the oil was due to be changed, it was going to be the 4th oil change. After 15 minutes the car just restarted like nothing had happened. After a little google searching I decided to check the oil and the dipstick had just a slight trace of oil. . I called the dealer questioned them and was told they have never heard of this problem. I have not taken it in for service since they just say they can't duplicate the problem. I now check my oil every 2000 miles so it doesn't run low causing an engine problem that will be my fault.
Today, February 1, 2018 I was driving on a straight road and my 2016 Jeep Cherokee and it shut off in the middle of me driving it. I was on a busy street in my town and almost got t-boned by another car. I am 5 months pregnant and this is a major safety concern. I fearful to step back into my vehicle and drive it.
Accellerating from a stop to get on the highway and engine shut down. Had to stop in the middle of a busy intersection to put it in park, remove and re-insert key, and restart. Almost got rear ended in the process. Took vehicle to the dealership immediately after (Saturday), they have had it all week - said they have driven it every day and have been unable to replicate the problem. Today is Thursday and they are asking me to pick it up. Wiring is secure, battery is fine, there is no trace in the vehicle's computer that there was ever an issue.
The engine shuts off without any warning. It has happened on ramps, a parking garage, on the highway and the middle of an intersection. No warning lights come on until after the engine stops. The steering fails, the brakes fail and the vehicle rolls to a stop. Often, it will take several minutes and attempts to restart the engine. I was advised by the dealership that the oil was low. The engine continues to shut off and with no correlation to time frame after having the oil replaced, time it has been driven, or duration of the trip. This is completely unsafe to the person operating the vehicle and to others on the road. Jeep and the dealership have ignored the problem and I have even been told by Jeep customer service that "the engine is operating as designed" which means that it will shut off without warning to protect the engine, not those inside the vehicle. They have refused to fix or acknowledge the issue, refused to void the lease and refused to replace the vehicle.
Car shuts off with out warning when driving.
While driving, vehicle shuts down unexpectedly and will not restart. Five + incidents have occurred this year alone, first incident occurred on Jan 25, 2017 - the most recent occurred today Aug 24, 2017. An engine replacement has been completed on the vehicle, however new/related faulty issues have been identified to include the transmission and software programming. Even after the so-called repairs are completed, the vehicle continues to shut down. All incidents have occurred while driving, turning, stopped on city streets, and when attempting to re-start engine after running a short (less that 5 minute) errand. Incidents are a safety issue endangering life and safety. Premier Jeep dealership in placentia, CA has been less than cooperative and rude in dealing with a female owner. Loss of use of vehicle has resulted in additional costs for other vehicle rental/insurance and lost wages from not being able to get to or having to leave work early to deal with this issue. Copies of vehicle maintenance repair will be forthcoming. Please note their have been numerous cited incidents of this issue occurring on the Jeep Cherokee built in late 2015 through early 2016. Chrysler/Jeep has even distributed notices to all dealerships recently to advise of the issue.
