6 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/19/2024

2019 Jeep Cherokee with only 35,000 miles. There was a recall previously for lateral acceleration sensors that covered over 40,000 2019 Cherokees. This vehicle is affected with the same problem, but I’m being told that because the VIN doesn’t fall in a particular range it is not covered. The repair could end up being extremely expensive due to the labor required to repair the defective sensor. The car displays multiple warnings that electronic stability control and 4wd are unavailable. Codes pulled revealed one fault code, c0061 which is for the lateral acceleration sensor which also is tied into the airbag system. Recall v63 (NHTSA 19v-449) issued in August 2019 is related to this exact issue. There are numerous reports of the same problem occurring with other 2019 Jeep Cherokees on Jeep owner forums. Jeep should have expanded the recall to cover this known defect.

Was involved in a t-boned accident where the front end of my Jeep stuck a vehicle in the side. The collision sensor did not activate nor did the air bags deploy. The other vehicle involved had airbags that deployed. The Jeep is at my residence for inspection. With airbags not performing properly (faulty) this did not keep the upper body from jilting forward which causes head and shoulder issues. Insurance has not investigated neither did police. There was no warning lights or messages indicating that there was a problem prior to the accident.

18 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 04/28/2022

Vehicle is a 2019 Jeep Cherokee trailhawk with approx. 23k miles as of 4/28. A nh state inspection failed on 4/28/22 at 3 pm due to front rotors being "very delaminated and pitted" and front brake pads wearing unevenly as a result of the rotor delamination. In the months prior to inspection, stop time/distance was noticeably increased, and light pulsing could be felt when coming to a stop. An appointment to replace the rotors and brakes was made for 4/29/22 at 10 am. Approximately 1 hour after the inspection, the vehicles in front of me came to an abrupt stop due to an intersection ahead. I was not able to stop in time and hit the vehicle in front of me, which was at a stop. That vehicle then lurched forward and hit the vehicle in front of it. After impact, the front upper and lower airbags deployed very slowly, but did not fully inflate. The radiator cracked as a result of the collision, as coolant began leaking from the vehicle and the vehicle began to smoke prior to me turning it off. There was extensive damage to the lower front bumper and hood, as well as mild damage to the quarter panels. Further damage is unknown at this time, as the vehicle was towed and is being assessed for repairs. No other persons involved in the crash were injured. I have sustained very mild bruising of my left knee from the steering column, soreness in the back of my neck and upper back, soreness in my right hip, and a very mild chemical burn in my throat (presumably from the airbag powder).

21 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 11/27/2021

Carvana tried to drop off this Jeep Cherokee with the air bags exposed on both the drivers side and passenger side. There were also exposed wires on the passenger side. I rejected the vehicle and they put it right back up for sale seconds later. They also are refusing to come pick up the original vehicle that I had swapped for the Cherokee. This is what I sent them: I swapped a Jeep compass for a Jeep Cherokee (VIN 1c4pjldn8kd339491). The delivery person aaron shows up 11/27/2021 and before he even gets the Cherokee off the truck, he offers me a $100 visa gift card saying the inside is dirty. I open the drivers side door and the air bag is exposed, dirty and wet. Aaron says I can keep it, just get it fixed at a dealership. I said “nah”. I go to the passenger side and it’s the same situation, the panel is hanging down and there are exposed wires. I said “nah I’m not keeping this car” and I begin taking pictures of the damages. The delivery dude aaron then asks me not to take pictures. I did anyway. Then aaron says “well I’m not gone say you rejected it. Imma just leave it as is” to which I said “no it’s rejected. I’m not taking this car I reject it. ” I never got in the car, I have ring cameras that recorded it all. He loads it back up and leaves. Fifteen minutes later the car is back for sale on carvana. I called carvana to tell them they needed to come pick up their compass because I no longer want to do business with a company that would deliver a vehicle with defective airbags. They give me the complete run around for two days saying they can’t just come get the car, contracts have to be filled. The same contract I signed with the compass was the same contract I signed on the Cherokee that was instantly back for sale. How?? I never signed any financing contracts on either car because the mileage was under reported on the contract and I wasn’t about to sign anything with inaccuracies. They told me it would take 10-20 business days to come get their car.

22 Air Bag problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2021

This particular year and model of Jeep has 2 recalls not registered to my VIN number related to my accident. Airbags- impact and acceleration sensors. Steering- steering rack gear. Tonight while driving my Jeep to my local walmart, my steering completely quit and locked up on me causing me to go off the road, hit a speed limit sign, almost roll my vehicle, and cause possible irreparable damage that may total my vehicle all together. The impact was hard enough to cave in my whole front passenger side fender, rip my mirror completely off, dent both passenger doors deeply, bend my door frames, and almost completely tore off my rear fender. During this, my air bags did not deploy, and I know the accident was bad enough that they should have. This could have been life threatening, and could have ended entirely worse than what it did. My power steering pump seems to be working fine, but my Jeep itself is still registering it as a power steering issue, which makes me believe that there are significant electrical issues with the Jeep itself.

23 Air Bag problem

While driving, the vehicle would jump out of gear and rpm's would go up. Had to tap on brake to go back into gear. Had the transmission flashed per recent recall and still does it. 08/21/19 while driving the vehicle 50mph, the engine shut off, causing loss of steering and no brakes. Vehicle ran off the road and into some trees (crash). The dealership said if it didn't show a code that I had to call Jeep and file a complaint. Failure Date: 05/06/2019

Jeep has 6664 miles on it and airbag service light came on and says that airbag needs serviced. At first the light would come on and then turn back off however, now the light is on and remains on. Next complaint is that after slowing vehicle down and beginning to accelerate again, the Jeep seems to not want to accelerate normally. . . It is hesitant and then suddenly picks up speed. 3rd complaint. While sitting at a light or stop sign it feels like the engine is pulling against the brake (as if you were trying to accelerate and brake at same time) in a "lunging" manner.
