5 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2019

Engine stalled as I was accelerating when making a turn. Warning on the dash said that the vehicle cannot be shifted while moving, but I hadn't touched the shifter- it was locked in drive. This is the second occurrence of this type of engine stall in 4 months. The first time I only had 1200 miles on the car, this time 3400 miles. When engine quit I lost power steering. Engine restarted ok.

6 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2019

Engine stalls intermittently while in motion turning left and intermittent delay between pushing the gas pedal and having acceleration start when traveling at moderate speed. Engine already replaced under warranty with the same symptoms occurring. Engine replaced at 5k miles, symptoms repeating at 8k miles.

7 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2019

After an intersection stop and starting to accelerate during a right turn and car in motion, the car engine stalled. The dashboard showed 0 rpm and just the battery indicator on. Park over the road shoulders, I could start the engine again after 2 attempts. This has happened 3 times as of now, 2 times last week (may 10 and may 11 2019). Went to the Jeep dealer in pineville, charlotte, nc. They suppose executed the work order for the safety recall u86 (NHTSA recall number 18v-523) on may 11. But today (may 13 2019) the car did exactly the same in the same intersection like the first time. Car has only 4,250 miles.

8 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

The vehicle's electrical system does not work properly. The uconnect screen fades in and out to total blackness. You cannot read anything. There is no way to change any of the settings. I had to turn the car off, start it again to get the screen to come on. It is dangerous when you are driving and have to guess what is happening on the screen. The radio does not work right. I start the car and it either comes on full blast volume, and then fades out to no sound, or it just has no sound at all. I followed the owner's manual to reset the uconnect system using the uconnect menu reset button. That did absolutely nothing! I cannot trust the car or the screen in the uconnect system. The second issue and it is a big one! the car stalls when you step on the accelerator! I tried to pass a car, and stepped down to accelerate and the Jeep stalled! I almost wrecked! when you step down on the accelerator the engine feels like it is going to stall. I am not a mechanic, so I do not know if all of this is electrical, or engine related. This is an on going problem.

9 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 01/30/2019

Purchased used with 5k miles, 40% oil level based on info center. After two months and the oil level at 10% the car would shut off randomly when turning, miles at around 7k. Occurred 2-3 times, took to jiffy lube and after oil change did not occur until hit 10,500 miles and oil level at 50% based on info center, engine would shut off when turning in motion, occurred again multiple times. Took to Jeep dealership and explained the issue. They advised me the engine could be replaced but first I need to change the oil with Jeep and return 1k miles later after oil change. So far at 10,800 miles no problem but the Jeep service adviser said that if it has occurred multiple times the engine more than likely will be swapped out. This should be a nationwide recall for this engine, can you imagine the engine stalling on the freeway and shutting off in a turn!! when I was at the dealer there was a 2019 Jeep compass having the same problem and the engine was being replaced. Needs to be recalled ASAP.

10 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 12/06/2018

While driving vehicle showed on screen that shifting was not allowed causing the car to stall. Having to stop in the middle of the road to shift it to parking and put it back on drive. Also battery light came up while driving casusing the engine to stall and not being able to proceed in drive slowing the car down. Had to turn off the vehicle again on the middle of the road to be able to restart the vehicle.

11 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/26/2018

I was at a stop waiting to make a left hand turn, when I saw an opening to turn I accelerated, turned the wheel and had just barely cleared the oncoming traffic when my car stopped accelerating and my engine cut entirely. I coasted through the rest of the turn with no power just barely avoiding being hit. I looked at the dash and saw my battery light flashing and my info center displaying the message you see when you first enter your car "to start engine put foot on brake and press start button" (or some variation of this phrase, I can't quote it verbatim). It had stalled. I turned the car back on, called the dealership and they immediately sent someone to pick it up. I have owned my brand new car for 11 days and have only 700 miles on it. The dealership cannot find anything wrong with my car, cannot recreate the situation and there is no apparent recall on my car's year. There is, however; a recall on the model. Fca's advanced communication for recall u87 on 8/16/18 does list my model year and the original documentation for NHTSA's 18v-524 does as well. The actual recall does not. I'm concerned as this recall documents an issue with the powertrain control module (pcm) that "may have been manufactured with a suspect voltage regulator chip on the electronic circuit board. If the pcm fails, the customer may experience a no-start, a start-and-immediate stall condition, or an engine stall while driving". That is an exact quote from the fca communication on 8/16/18 which lists my model & year. The dealer is unable to address this though as the recall does not. Its clear to me this is the issue but this small exclusion of my model year leaves my dealership with their hands tied and me with a potentially unsafe car.

12 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2018

I have a 2019 Jeep Cherokee with 2000 miles on it. I am leasing it brand new. I bought it on July 10. On Monday, sept 10, I was driving home from work and going about 45 miles per hours, suddenly the car went from 45 mph to 0 mph in a matter of seconds, I lose control of the power steering and power brakes and it stalled. . . In the middle of a busy street. It w as frightening. I put it in park, turned it off, tried starting it again, turned it off again, waited a few minutes, start it again and it started up called the husband to see if I should try to head home in it or call uber. We decided I was close enough to home to try again. It happened two more times on the way home. Absolutely terrifying to be driving and have it completely shut down mid drive. I had a car going about 45 behind me swerve into another lane to avoid smashing into me. They will not fix it because they cannot see it happened on their system and can't duplicate the issue. It is a huge safety issue. I am afraid someone will be seriously injured. I also see this all over the internet when I search 2019 Jeep Cherokee engine stall in motion. So, I have to take the car back and drive it until it happens again.

13 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/31/2018

Vehicle is shutting off while driving, causing loss of steering and everything else in the vehicle. This has happened twice. Once at 30mph, and at 50 mph. Luckily I did not wreck or hit someone. This vehicle isn't safe to drive. Someone is going to be killed if this is not fixed. This seems to be related to a recent recall by fca affecting other 2019 Jeep Cherokee models. That states: the power train control module may fail and the customer will experience a no start, a start and immediate stall condition, or engine stall while driving.

14 Engine Stall problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2018

My 2019 Jeep Cherokee's engine has stalled 3 times prior to reaching 3000 miles. In each case, I was traveling at a low speed going up a slight incline. There was no warning, and only the orange battery indicator light showed on the display. The first time the Cherokee's engine died, it started once the car was placed in park and the ignition button was pushed. The second time the Cherokee's engine restarted once the car was placed in park and the ignition button was pushed. It ran a few seconds, the engine died again, and when placed in park and the ignition button was pushed, the engine hesitated and sounded like it did not want to start. The engine finally restarted. When I returned the car to the dealership, the service staff said that no service code was generated and that they were unable to recreate the problem. The staff also seemed unaware of any manufacturer's defect with the 2019 Jeep Cherokee's engine. I find this disturbing since I have read several posts online from owners of 2019 Jeep Cherokees stating exactly the same problem. Is Jeep really this unconcerned about the safety of its customers? Jeep needs to do something immediately before a fatal accident is caused from this defect in their product.
